Hello & Welcome

WOW 😯 This year has passed far too quickly and December and the festive season is all of a sudden upon us with about a 4wk countdown to 2022. Don’t panic, this isn’t a quick fix promotion; it’s more a slow & sustained way of eating. There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

I for one want to start the brand New Year feeling fit, healthy & vibrant with hope that we are all in for a better year! Eating right, getting outside, moving more will all aid in bolstering up your immune system and promote positive mental health.

I’m not one to be a Ba Humbug about festive treats and mulled wine but I do remain mindful about my choices without undue deprivation. Life’s for living and we’ve had too much of that taken away over the last 2 years not to embrace the family & friends celebrations.

Come and join us. On these threads I find members are supportive and inspiring in equal measures. We offer guidance, support and a bit of handholding. Share as much or as little as you want.

Official weigh day is Wednesday aka WOW but it’s not compulsory. Currently I weigh a couple of times a week but at others I’ve weighed daily. Do whatever suits you.

Jump on board, this time next week/month/year you’ll be glad you did. What are you going to change? What are your goals? How do you intend to do it?

Arrrrgghhh!

I stepped on the scales this morning and I really wish I hadn't!! 5lbs up from last Thursday!! I'm hoping that's not real weight gain and just bloating!! I haven't really eaten that much but have most certainly drank a lot!! Really annoyed with that.

Youdoyoutoday · 27/12/2021 11:25

Sorry to hear that @buzzofthebumblebee, hope you feel better soon.

SunshineCake1 · 27/12/2021 12:14

Oh no @buzzofthebumblebee. I hope you feel better soon.

Ignore @Youdoyoutoday. It's not really 5lbs.

DS1 is dropping off DD. DS2 is happy as his new jigsaw has just arrived and he's ordered something for his computer with money from us grandparents. DH thinks he is at the end of the really bad stuff but he still looks pale, is still in bed, not eating, can finally drink water and looks like he has lost quite a few pounds. I have a headache, haven't slept well the last two nights, need to read the admission booklet for hospital and just feel too tired to do anything really.

Youdoyoutoday · 27/12/2021 12:46

Thanks @SunshineCake1 I hope you're right.

Rest up and save your energy for hospital!

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2021 18:14

@buzzofthebumblebee I hope you’re not suffering too much with it, get well soon! Flowers

I hopped onto the scales this morning and my weight is the same as it was last week. Result! It’s almost two pounds more than it was two weeks ago though, which is not that surprising as I did go a bit mad around the middle of the month.

Overall, my weight is still less than it was at the start of the month, but not by much. I’m planning to be a bit more cautious around Nee Year and not use it as an excuse for another week of snacking!

@Youdoyoutoday, I’m sure most of that gain won’t be a real increase, especially if any alcohol was involved over Christmas. That stuff really messes with the scales.

@buzzofthebumblebee, I hope Covid hasn’t hit you too hard and that you recover soon. Not a nice way to end Christmas 😔

Youdoyoutoday · 28/12/2021 11:24

There might have a few bottles of red wine and bucks fizz and prosecco involved in the last few days.....
1lb lighter today so 4lbs on, back up to 14 stone again! Not impressed but it's my own stupid fault!

SunshineCake1 · 28/12/2021 17:06

I've gone up a few pounds. I suspect nexuses I've not being eating enough rather than too much. Today I've given up it's hard when ds1 is here and wants to eat certain things at less than good times for me but I don't want to miss out. The salami Parma ham etc platter was a waste of time. DS1 opened if before Christmas, I was cross then no one ate the rest so waste of money. He cooked our main meal for lunch today which suited by choice for eating but I'm not v v v v stressed so ate pannetone, a mini baileys cupcake, a macaroni cheese ready meal and now DS is steaming a sticky toffee rum pudding which I will eat some of.

I'm worried about my covid test and worried about Friday. Even hearing DS talk and talk and talk is annoying me and I love him more than anything.

As long as you enjoyed them @Youdoyoutoday.

Youdoyoutoday · 28/12/2021 17:20

I enjoyed them, always do!!

@Crazzzycat that’s awesome! Well done!

@Youdoyoutoday at least the scales are going in the right direction 👍

@SunshineCake1 sending a hug. Everything crossed your appointment goes ahead and goes well!

My equilibrium is returning after having guests over Christmas. On a brighter note I’m looking forward to the lighter nights and the fresh start of another new year 🍾🎊🎉

What’s everyone doing for New Year? Coffee table buffet, bubbles and Hootananny for us 🎶

All the best for your appointment Sunshine. Too much on your mind to worry about weight atm. Really rooting you on here.

Well done everyone else - staying the same, or not much on, despite seasonal temptations.

You are sounding brighter TheReal and that's a very good thing. So pleased for you. Your New Year sounds wonderful too. Enjoy every moment.

As for me, I couldn't be feeling more sorry for myself. Last Christmas day I lost my DM. This year I test +ve for covid, so can't spend the day with my DF or DB, and my family get another miserable Christmas & NY. All our plans scuppered. I've been in bed for 3 days feeling rubbish (despite 2 jabs, 1 booster, and already having it earlier this year). I know on the scheme of things it could be much worse, but I really really don't feel I deserve this at all. My teen DC's are so fed up. They are so far testing negative, but I've had such a bad dose they are frightened to go outside, just incase.

The one conciliation (??!!!!) is that being confined to bedroom means I can't raid the food. Apart from last night when I snuck down v late and hoovered up a whole bag big crisps, and a good half tub hero. Not proud. So craving fresh air. We were due to be away in the countryside now in a lovely cottage, log fire, with my dear DF in tow. My DH works so hard, has a well-deserved week off work and he's stuck in doors too, doing the chores I can't. Can't mix with DC's as they really don't want it. Bloody miserable.

So sorry for the moan.... I really don't mean to bring the tone down. I am just so upset : ( I'll be upbeat and positive, and bright and cheery again once I can escape this awful virus.

I must have been very very naughty to get this for Christmas ...!

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2021 20:50

Bless you @buzzofthebumblebee you have had a very tough time of it! Do you have a garden. I’d go and have a walk around to get some fresh air into my lungs. Hoping you feel better soon! ❤️ No apologies needed, you post whatever you want! Take care.

Ffs my post makes no sense. I am v v v v stressed not not.

So sorry to read your post @buzzofthebumblebee. What a crappy time you are having. I hope you feel better very soon and of course you don't deserve it.

Dh and I feel the last two years have just been us taking it in turns to be ill. Six weeks of me doing everything after his heart attack then I was in bed for 2 1/2 weeks with covid then long covid for nine months or more. Then I had two weeks in bed with constant migraine then 2.5 months on bed with glandular fever. Now dh has been poorly for nearly three weeks and I've not felt great the last few days either. We aren't usually ever poorly much. DH said he never was until we had children.

My best oldest friend lost her mum today a few years ago and today her uncle has died too. Life can be shit sometimes. I feel awful but when I read that someone had lost their mum I always think I wish mine had gone instead of yours. She is not a nice person and chucked me away for the sake of a man and money.

DownUdderer · 29/12/2021 05:39

I typed a message yesterday then it didn't post!

I'm sorry you got covid @buzzofthebumblebee moan as much as you want, it can help to off load.

I'm still snacking here and there. I'm 1 or 2 pounds up from December the 4th.

I've got a broccoli and cauliflower that need eating up and loads of onions, so I'll make a soup this evening. Some veg will do me good!!

We made it to the beach today, it was cloudy but still extremely enjoyable. It's called Toowoon Bay if anyone fanciest googling it to see, such a beautiful beach.

Crazzzycat · 29/12/2021 08:32

I couldn’t resist googling that beach @DownUdderer. It’s fabulous!

I’m lucky to live walking distance from the coast, but my beach is mainly mud with gravel. We do get fab sunsets though and all that mud means it’s not particularly popular with tourists, so it tends to be pretty much deserted most of the year.

@buzzofthebumblebee, you have every right to feel sorry for yourself. You’ve had a lot to deal with, so vent away!

@SunshineCake1 sorry to hear things are so touch. Do whatever you need to do to get you through the week.

Good Morning All

@DownUdderer I lose posts when on iPad, it’s very frustrating. I’ll be googling your toowoon bay, I adore beaches and it’s been an age since we went to one. Soup sounds rather tasty 😋 Don’t sweat the small gain … a good 💩 will see that remedied 😬

Nice photo @Crazzzycat and you’re right, that’s an awesome sunset 🌅

Menu
Meal 1 - Salad with cold cuts.
Meal 2 - Tray bake with red pepper, red onion, carrot, sprouts, broccoli and salmon.

Water, tea, coffee, few nuts.

Enjoy your day everyone.

@DownUdderer the numpty I am was thinking as I was Googling Toowoon Bay, if it isn’t too far I might go at the weekend … then I saw it was ‘down under’. Totally missed the clue in your username and I’d forgotten where you lived 😬😅 I agree, It is simply stunning 😍

What amazing beaches - UK & down under. I shall do some mindfulness today and place myself (isolating of course!!) on both those beautiful beaches. And thank you for kind wishes.

Weigh in today - as my calendar told me it was Wednesday. 11 5, so officially 4lbs down from beginning December. I'll take that. Doubt there'll be more off - more likely an increase - come 1st Jan, but I'm so grateful to you all for your support since I joined in 1st Sept.

Here are my stats:
SW 1st Sept - 13 stone 2
CW 29th Dec - 11 stone 5
GW soon ! - 10 stone 10 ?

I hope I can keep in the zone mentally in the New Year. My drinking has increased, so I will probably do Dry Jan to help break that habit. And join a pilates class I think.

Food - no idea what there is to eat today. I would love a big bowl of vegetable soup ...think you planted that one in my taste buds Down !

Have a good day everyone

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 11:44

That’s a fabulous result @buzzofthebumblebee especially to have lost overall over the Christmas season 👏. You’re making solid progress! Well done 👏⭐️ 🏅

OP posts:
SunshineCake1 · 29/12/2021 12:39

Well done @buzzofthebumblebee and well done to everyone who has kept going.

Stupidly I looked at what I weighed on my first January weigh in and today I am about a stone heavier. Trying to ignore it. I've been ill and I wouldn't weigh this much if dh hadn't made me eat and I hadn't spent three weeks in bed.

I managed five km this morning then an hour and twenty walk with the dog. I hoped to have run 6km but listened to how I was feeling and just did the five.

Dh looks a bit better and has had breakfast. I'm doing party food lunch as ds1 will be going back home this week and I don't want him to miss out. Dh and I have already talked about overhauling our food once this period is over. I can't cope with us being poorly again.

I'm fretting about Friday. I'm worried I will have to have a general anaesthetic and won't wake up. I asked dh if I needed to write good bye letters and he said no with a 💔. I'm not taking my iPad in but please all think wake up vibes! Last time I took quite a while to wake up and I was very itchy and panicked for a while after.

Not doing much after lunch as woke three times in the night so am tired again.

Hope everyone else is well, I'll go and read the January thread but I like to end threads on their calendar date and not start the new one until the first so I'll see you over there then, as long as I wake up. Eek.

buzzofthebumblebee · 29/12/2021 15:13

Understandable, but no need to be thinking so negatively Sunshine. You'll be with us next year, and we'll be rooting for you on Friday. I haven't looked at the Jan 2022 thread yet (thanks btw TheReal) - but have a feeling it will be full of lots of keen new people. No probs - we were all there once, me most recently I think !!. Hope they continue the positive and encouraging vibes, and the happy tone that TheReal sets for us all!

Crazzzycat · 29/12/2021 17:08

The new thread is a little overwhelming! It’s nice to see so many new, super enthusiastic people though. I guess it’s more appealing to diet in January than December 😂

I just measured the walk I do every day. It’s only 2 km long. That’s going to make my 2022 km in 2022 challenge even more challenging than I thought it would be. Looks like I’m going to need more time on the exercise bike. I’m not a big fan of that, but at least it gets the miles in!

@SunshineCake1 it sounds like your anxiety levels are sky high. Have you talked to your GP about that recently? You shouldn’t need to put up with this on top of everything else you’re dealing with 😔

Well done on losing in December @buzzofthebumblebee! That’s amazing! You must have won the thread! 🏆

SunshineCake1 · 29/12/2021 17:13

I felt the same Crazzzycat. When I looked and saw 84 posts I was so shocked snd just found it all too much to be honest SadBlush.

I haven't spoken to anyone. I've tried to talk to dh about if I don't wake up but while he says he knows I'm scared he's not really encouraging what I want to talk about. I'm very stressed at the moment as I felt he snapped at me and I'm sick of yet another child complaining about Wi-Fi speed so maybe I just need to be on my own. I woke three or four times in the night so I'm tired too.

Can I join in with you on your 2200km challenge please? Are you keeping a written list or spreadsheet or something else?

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2021 17:23

@Crazzzycat it’s really positive that you are planning how to achieve your 2022 km in 2022. That will surely make you successful in your quest. Just an idea, have you thought of doing it for charity? You could use the Just Giving page. I’d sponsor you 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee TY for your lovely comments 😊 🙏. The threads are a team effort and every single one of you help make them what they are ⭐️❤️⭐️

@SunshineCake1 I’ll look at Google sheets. I think I will join you both in trying to achieve 2022 of something (adapted for disability) We perhaps could do a sponsored team event. 🤔

Don’t let the number of new posters on the new thread intimidate, you ladies have such experience and are really inspiring in what you’ve both achieved so far 🏅
