Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Sorry to read about a possible redundancy, stressful times.

I had a nice lunch out. It'd been a really long time since we could go out to eat because of lockdown!

I hope I can lose weight this week.

SunshineCake1 · 10/11/2021 06:58

Well done @LittleMissBlatherskite!

Pleased you had a nice lunch out @DownUdderer. Good luck for losing weight.

Once I can get myself up I am going for a run, then walking the dog then going to the shop. Tomorrow I am meeting a friend for a much needed chat and some cake.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/11/2021 07:48

Weds weigh-in shows another 2lbs loss this week.
SW - 13 stone 2
CW - 12 stone 0

I am on a roll, which is really incredible given how many times I have dieted over the last few years to no avail. It is all in the mindset. Need to go with it while I can.

Well done on your loss too Littlemiss. How old is your baby?
Kids can be so mean Yoyo. good luck with your weight loss journey.
Hope the news is good news jelly - must be such a worry for you. But funny your go-to would be cream egg?! Even if it were the last chocolate going, I could not go there - and I DO chocolate. Flowers

Grannybaby · 10/11/2021 08:53

@Yoyo2021Kids can be awful, I’m sorry. People used to make fun of me in school because my parents were ‘old’, they had me in their 30s so hardly ancient!

@jellyrolly I hope you get good news. My family is also a single income and carer set up, I know how precarious that can feel.

@buzzofthebumblebee Well done on the 2lb loss!

I weighed myself today and the scales are reading a 2lb loss also! I’m not sure how accurate that is because I was on my period last time I weighed in, but it’s motivating to see the numbers going down.

murmuration · 10/11/2021 09:36

So today is weigh-in day? For me it's just shy of week of starting to try to lose weight - I've gone down 3 pounds! So pleased to see progress already. I think I've figured out how you say it here:
SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 14 stone 1

TheRealHousewife · 10/11/2021 12:12

Good Morning All

WOW - down a 1lb. Hoping it sticks (rather than go back on) and lose another one next week 😬

@Grannybaby well done on getting in your 10k in steps. I used to do free style karate. It was great for keeping fit. My round house kick could reach heads … not that I ever knocked anyone’s block off 😬

@DownUdderer great reminder about stopping eating when full. I’m from the generation that was strongly encouraged (not allowed to leave table until plate cleared) to eat up.

@Yoyo2021 sorry to read about the bullying you and your children are facing. Not acceptable. Hope it improves!

A warm welcome @beastlyslumber, jump right in.

@murmuration well done on swerving the treats!

@jellyrolly everything crossed for you and your husband!

@SunshineCake1 hope you have a great week with your son!

Great losses @LittleMissBlatherskite @buzzofthebumblebee @Grannybaby @murmuraion 👍👏🥇

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy Cauli Egg Fried ‘rice’
Meal 2 - Sausages, cabbage, leeks, carrots, broccoli & bisto gravy.
Water, tea, coffee

Wishing Everyone a Great Day!!!

Hit and run as I'm up a few and annoyed Sad.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/11/2021 13:07

Well done on losses Granny , murm & TheReal - 8 lbs between the 4 of us!

Don't be annoyed Sunshine - you are still recovering, for which getting better is more important than weight loss. But I feel your frustration, especially as you had done so well & on a roll. You'll get there again.

Yummy food again TheReal. I had pie last night, a real proper pastry pie, with loads of veg (kale, leeks, broccoli & Carrots). It was delicious. Pie was about 700 cals. Just steamed veg. Lunch was chicken and salad, with sprinkle of seeds, 1/2 avocado. So calories for the day about 1400 including milk for tea & coffee (and a gin & slimline - oops). I can keep managing I think like this - no snacks, no breakfast if I'm going to have a big dinner or some form of carbs at dinner, and I can still join in with proper family meals without feeling deprived. Would have loved mash on the side like DH & DS, but I didn't have it or need it.

LittleMissBlatherskite · 10/11/2021 13:35

Looks like a few of us have had great losses this week. Well done @buzzofthebumblebee @Grannybaby @TheRealHousewife & @murmuration.

Babies (twins) are almost 9 months and certainly helping to me keep active.

TheRealHousewife · 10/11/2021 14:02

@buzzofthebumblebee your pie sounds very tasty 😋. I agree we can get plenty of variety & flavour in even when we cc. I spend mine wisely 😬.

@LittleMissBlatherskite Congratulations on your twins! 🥳 👏 I bet they keep you very busy! 👶 👶

@SunshineCake1 remember weight loss isn’t linear and you are still very much in recovery mode. Also increasing your exercise like you are your muscles will be repairing themselves and in doing so hold glycogen/water. It’ll soon stabilise. Be kind to yourself ❤️

SunshineCake1 · 10/11/2021 14:32

I'm back embarrassed at my sulking. It was just the disappointment as I really thought I would have lost something with being on top of my fasting and have been running a bit and walking doggy.

Well done on your loss @buzzofthebumblebee. That is fantastic! Thank you for your kind words Flowers.

Take it @Grannybaby. Great stuff!

Congratulations @murmuration. We have weigh on Wednesday, WOW, but do what suits you.

I am really pleased for you @TheRealHousewife that you are down. Well done. I don't understand the science of holding etc. any tips please?

beastlyslumber · 10/11/2021 19:11

Thanks for the welcome! I managed to get through a family gathering with plates of sandwiches and cakes everywhere - and ate none of it! Proud of myself Grin

SunshineCake1 · 10/11/2021 19:26

Well done @beastlyslumber I'm proud of you too!

Graphista · 10/11/2021 23:53

Wrote a long post and - poof! It's vanished! Hate that on the app!

Wow -2 stone 9.75lbs

So 2.25lbs off but still off track. I had wanted to be under 12.5 stone by now

Well done to everyone who's had losses/victories

To those struggling as I am at the moment let's get our heads together and see if we can find solutions for each other?

Eg @murmuration I may take up your broth idea - is it just half a stock cube?

@jellyrolly hoping for good news for your dh - just in case though have you looked into other support and prepped to access that if needed? Good to be organised I think and in situations like this feeling SOMEWHAT prepared can take the edge off the anxiety a bit

I think I'm off kilter for a number of reasons

Clock change
Colder weather
No delivery this week as I've been out and picking up bits which is really not good for me.
Behind on chores which always unsettles me

Always at this time of year I'm tired, low, tearful and don't feel like cooking or doing anything really. I just wanna hide until spring!

Been taking vit d but it's not doing much I don't think.

Next delivery Sunday. Having a housework blitz Fri and sat in prep and hoping that and the delivery gets me back on track.

Thanks to @TheRealHousewife I've added eggs to my shopping list - that's a quick and easy hot thing I can have that's what I'm struggling to find. I'm considering also trying non potato mash (carrot and swede seem main options which I love both of those) and cauli rice to get cal count down a bit more. It all helps right?

Graphista · 10/11/2021 23:58

2 stone????

Haha I wish

12 stone 9.75lbs

DownUdderer · 11/11/2021 05:49

I'll join in with weigh on Wednesday, that was yesterday for me. I am down 2lbs! I'm really happy with that. Sometimes you just need to know that the effort you're putting into eating well, does actually mean you can lose weight!

I'm really really pleased.

I have really been drinking plenty of water the last couple of days, and I'm sure it really helps!

Yesterday I had a vodka and coke at lunch time, because we were eating out. Anyway that evening I just could have easily eaten chocolate and never stopped. I was craving it! I didn't have any, but I think sugar rush at lunch time just gave me cravings.

I tell myself nothing is off the menu, I can have whatever I want, but I also try not to give in and undo a weeks worth of good work just for some chocolate craving.

Youdoyoutoday · 11/11/2021 08:14

Morning all,

Well done for all the losses yesterday!!

Weighed in this morning for the first time in a week and I've gained 2lbs, isn't that wonderful?? 😡
Been mindful of portions, calorie counting, not had any fizzy drinks, bootcamp, swimming!!!

Urgh!

But I really thought I'd lost some as my tummy is flatter, my thighs are less thunderous, my skinny jeans size 18 are slipping down, when bootcamping I'm forever pulling my pants back up now (think I need some new pants)!

So I'm changing, no doubt about that but I'm seriously thinking of just not weighing myself again, this is so demoralising.

Oh well, off to do the school run and go swimming!

TheRealHousewife · 11/11/2021 09:39

Good Morning All

This might be a useful read @SunshineCake1

@Youdoyoutoday You need to value you nsvs (none scale victories). You are seeing real results in your silhouette & measurements. TMI warning … For some people a good 💩 will see that loss gone 😬 We all need to remember weight loss isn’t linear and fluctuations are natural. If the trend is generally downwards then all is as it should be 😊

@DownUdderer great loss 👍👏

@Graphista you’ve still seen good losses. Whatever you’re doing IS working. Well done 👏 I often get the post disappearing when trying to post. I agree it’s frustrating.

@beastlyslumber well done on swerving the carby cals 👍👏

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom Omelette
Meal 2 - Chilli & Cauli Rice
Water, tea with milk, black coffee, apple, walnuts.

Keep at it ladies, this time tomorrow, next week, next month you’ll be glade you did 😬

Youdoyoutoday · 11/11/2021 10:38

Thanks @TheRealHousewife

I haven't lost any weight since 1st Oct that's when I got down to 14.2, last week was 14.3 now 14.5. I didn't have 13.12 once but that was the day after my 1st bootcamp so thats not really a legit reading. But at least I've maintained.

TMI but I'm fairly regular so I don't think that's the problem

murmuration · 11/11/2021 12:05

@Youdoyoutoday - you could be replacing fat with muscle, so looking slimmer but weighing more

@Graphista - yes, I have have a stock cube with breakfast, and one at "dinner" (which at least gives me something to do then)- I dissolve it in a mug with boiling water from a kettle.

Thanks for all the congratulations :) It might just be water-weight (what they say you always lose first when starting a diet), but it is very encouraging to see something happen in the first week. Makes me feel like I can keep going.

I've been finding I want a snack in the afternoon/evening, but it's not because I'm hungry - I just want a "treat". Something to make me feel happy. I had bought myself some gourmet tea selections this spring - last night I had a lovely tea when I wanted a treat instead of some brie (what I used to have), and it appeared to work. So I may keep at that.

I'm actually feeling a lot better this week. I think I may have been eating myself into a stupor. I feel like I am more clear-headed and have more energy. I've even been doing chores in the evening! (when I used to just collapse). I hope that keeps up :)

TheRealHousewife · 11/11/2021 14:01

@Youdoyoutoday I now see why you're disappointed and despondent. I didn't mean to be flippant (if that's how I come across). Like @murmuration says it could be to do with your increased activity/muscle repair/building etc. Here's hoping you see a loss soon. Don't give up!

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 11/11/2021 14:03

That sounds great @murmuration! Changing habits to healthier choices all help in our endeavours to lose it. Pleased to read you're feeling more energetic and clear headed, bonus :)

Elle200 · 11/11/2021 14:25

When I first started my diet two years ago, i was seeing a dietician. For the first six months I messed about and managed to put on about a stone, simply by eating anything and everything. Then I sorted myself out, and with the support of the dietician have lost weight every month since. Because of covid, appointments were on the phone but I spoke regularly with the dietician and valued her support. Then she stopped calling. I'd not heard for her in about six months, but today, i had a letter offering me a telephone appointment for the middle of January.

I can't believe how excited I was to get this, I've really missed her support and can't wait to speak to her again. My aim of reaching 67kgs, which would mean I have lost 67kg as I started at 134kg, is even more important now. I have just under five kg to lost to reach my target, can I do that between now and January the 18th?!

Youdoyoutoday · 11/11/2021 15:05

Thanks @TheRealHousewife, I didn't see your response as flippant, don't worry.

I'm not going to give up, as I've said before, I've made peace with the fact that this will be a long hard slog so when I'm down on the ground looking up at the sky whilst bootcamping, I see planes going overhead and I'm thinking to myself, I'm investing in next year's beach body!!

However, weighing myself is really getting me down so sod the scales from now on, I think I'll just weigh in once a month on the 1st of each month because I don't want to feel this demoralised on a regular basis. I know I'm getting slimmer, healthier, fitter etc so the scales can sod off with their 2lb on!! Who does it think it is?? 🤣

TheRealHousewife · 11/11/2021 15:58

That's the spirit @Youdoyoutoday! Weighing daily doesn't suit everyone. Do what works for you :) You're doing great too!

That's awesome progress @Elle200, really inspiring. In regards to your January 18th target I don't know. I'm not very good at predicting outcomes. You could ask your dietitian. Let us know what she says and any tips she shares :)
