Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Does it look like nice cake Anaconda ? If it really does, then yes I"d say you were justified. But if processed sugary cake I personally wouldn't bother.

MyAnacondaMight · 08/11/2021 14:17

It’s beautiful, homemade cake. Eyeballing it, it’s maybe 500cal - which is probably more than I ran this weekend! Decided to have a tiny sliver for 100cal, to enjoy the flavour, and ditch the rest.

Youdoyoutoday · 08/11/2021 16:20

Afternoon ladies!

Well done @swampytiggaa

Bootcamp done this morning but no swimming today as I had an appointment.
Resisting the urge to weigh myself.... I thought to myself yesterday that weighing myself daily used to keep me more on track as I've had a bit of an indulgent weekend again with the wine!
However there's no more wine now so I'm off it til Saturday when I'm out with my friends.

Been trying to drink more water too but it's so cold, I feel like I'm peeing every 20 minutes so I've dug out my cocktail jug and filled it with water, not margarita so I can sit out at room temperature which hopefully helps. Need to finish off of the boxes of herbal teas I have too so that should help.

TheRealHousewife · 08/11/2021 16:42

Good Afternoon All

A warm welcome @MyAnacondaMight. Its surprising how quickly it can go on … I wished it came off as quickly. You'll get there.

@Timetobuckup I posted a Mushroom Stroganoff recipe earlier on the thread … or it might have been at the end of October.

@Graphista it must be so frustrating for you. Can you not register at another surgery. Its important to have access to health care without any discrimination.

Welcome @Grannybaby and off course its ok to join us, the more the merrier. it must be so difficult to resist all your baking treats :) You're fitness regime and plan seem very sensible.

@buzzofthebumblebee I totally agree with your statement that we all need to be kind to ourselves :) I have all sizes in my wardrobe too. Its my top half that the biggest because of my generous of portion Twin Peaks. Too big for my frame really.

@swampytiggaa well done and congrats on your 10 miler yesterday. Awesome.

@Fatflump how lovely to have a milestone birthday on the horizon to look forward too. We tend to overall health/fitness on the milestones ending in '0'. Are you planning a party/get together?

@SunshineCake1 Was the on-line test legit? Id speak to the GP if you're worried. Sending love.

menu
Meal 1 - Red pepper omelette.
Meal 2 - Chicken stir fry. Apple.
Water, tea with milk, coffee with cream (tiny bit)

@buzzofthebumblebee hi I will probably do nothing about it. If I am I have been for ever and tbh I have bigger things to worry about.

No idea @TheRealHousewife. I don't know if it was that one or another one I started but I got a result wasn't expecting as well as bipolar/depressed.

Run number five today. I can already tell I am getting better. Looking forward to progressing to longer runs. Fasting going well. DS1 home tomorrow for a week. DD wants to leave uni. DS2 doing well at school. Me I plead the 5th.

Youdoyoutoday · 08/11/2021 16:55

Good on you @SunshineCake1! I'm glad you're getting out to run.

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/11/2021 17:41

Yes - well done you on your bootcamp at silly o'clock, and you'll be back running properly again soon Sunshine. Muscle memory & all that. Good to build it up again - stamina and fitness - after you being so poorly.
Your food sound delicious again thereal!

swampytiggaa · 08/11/2021 17:44

I have to confess that there was probably more walking than running yesterday frustratingly as I would have liked to have run more but I’d committed to support my friend so I stuck with her. Next race I do I’m going to run for me tho

Grannybaby · 08/11/2021 17:49

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yesterday went well, I ended up doing a women’s martial arts class as well as my usual class. I think now, more than ever, women need to know how to fight back. It’s scary times to be a woman/girl.

I also did 10k steps and stayed within my calories, so I’ll call that a win!

Today I’m pretty tired, I had a horrible bout of insomnia last night, but I’ll try and get a walk or run in this eve. I was doing c25k but I got a knee injury, I might start back at week one again and see how it feels.

Hope everyone has had a good day!

Yoyo2021 · 08/11/2021 21:54

@Grannybaby that sounds awesome the martial arts class I never have confidence to go to any classes !

A good and bad day here good think I’ve lost 4 pound so I’m 15 stone exactly - really pleased to see that number and now 2 stone 5 gone since start September but wasn’t so good this evening my year 5 child told me this evening that two children have been saying ‘your mum is fat’ to him etc has made me even more determined now to get to Xmas goal and keep going through the year to get to a healthy weight. Haloween Sad hate it so much my son is suffering because of this weight!!!

DownUdderer · 09/11/2021 02:21

I'm going out for lunch tomorrow. When I was in my 20's I decided that when eating, I'd eat until I was full then leave the rest. If I'm at home I save food as left overs for myself. If I'm eating out I just leave it on the plate. So, tomorrow I'll eat, enjoy it and leave some on the plate. I try my best to eat slowly. Sometimes I manage to eat slowly, sometimes I don't.

I've got friends who think it's a waste of food, but over eating doesn't solve the problem. I'd rather the bin gets the excess rather than my tummy.

I was effortlessly slim in my 20's! Now I'm 40 it's not effortless!

SunshineCake1 · 09/11/2021 07:12

So angry to hear that @Yoyo2021. My kids were teased because I talked funny - different accent to where we live - and I didn't wear make up Hmm. Can't help thinking kids wouldn't notice the latter.

Well done on your loss. That is great. Keep going!

Enjoy your lunch out @DownUdderer.

DH is taking DS2 to school then going to pick up DS1 who has taken a week off work. Yay! I'm going to walk the dog then try and do some bits around the house. But if a step back yesterday as I took to my bed before six then tired to sleep from nine. Restless for a couple of hours then been awake since 3am.

beastlyslumber · 09/11/2021 07:17

Hello, hi. I've put on about 2 stone in the last couple of months (comfort eating my way through stressful times!) and need to lose it, so hoping that joining this thread will give me some motivation!

I will be low carbing and intermittent fasting. I have to spend a week with extended family from today so I'm not sure if I can make it through without cake! But I'm going to try because I am so fed up of being fat and I was so happy when I lost the weight!

murmuration · 09/11/2021 11:34

@SunshineCake1, what app do you use? It sounds interesting...

buzz - I do sometimes have popcorn (hot air, add salt, but you need something to make it stick, which adds calories), but broth is pretty good and especially nice and warming in the winter: I use half a stock cube in a mug, only 10 calories. So it sort of breaks my fasting time, but not by much so I hope okay. Some people get salt pills, but I told the doctor I was fine with drinking broth when needed and he was okay with that. I just need to keep track and top up when I need! Even eating twice the calories I am now when tracking, I would have been below 2000mg/day, so should have been having broth. (I had sort of thought I was overeating so it wouldn't be necessary...)

Impressed by everyone's activity :) My level is I'm trying to wake up early and do tai chi, which I've managed except for today - don't know how I overslept by nearly 1.5 hours! Luckily still in time for getting DD to school, but now I'll have to work late (I usually work an hour in the AM before DD gets up).

Only on day 5 here, but still doing okay so far. I'm in the office yesterday and today (usually work from home since covid) and was SO tempted to have a nice yummy comforting snack when I got home, but resisted yesterday. I will aim to do so again today...

SunshineCake1 · 09/11/2021 11:44

Welcome @beastlyslumber. Maybe have a smaller amount of cake and really concentrate on if you are truly hungry, enjoying the cake and how you feel afterwards. If all those answers are not positive then a no thank you for the next thing earns you a calorie save.

@murmuration it is the zero app. It's orange. Think about how good you felt when you resisted the snack and channel for tonight..

beastlyslumber · 09/11/2021 11:55

Thanks sunshine I will try to remember that. I am fine when i can be mindful, but in times of stress I tend to get quite mindless! Will try not to lapse but if I do, not use it as a reason to eat everything in sight!

jellyrolly · 09/11/2021 12:03

Hi everyone, I'm a little lax at checking in but just busy. I'm sticking to my eating plan, started a new fitness programme which I am enjoying. No gain or loss this week but that's ok as I'm just negotiating the menopause.

My husband has just been told half of his workplace is closing and half employees will be made redundant so now we wait, I feel sick. I'm a full time carer/home educator so we completely rely on his income. Hopefully we will know soon as I'm sure they decide before they announce it. If ever I wanted to reach for a creme egg it's now (while we can still afford one Grin)

jellyrolly · 09/11/2021 12:11

@SunshineCake1 I hope you are feeling ok today, it sounds like your online test was hard, even if not a shock to you.

murmuration · 09/11/2021 12:30

Oh @jellyrolly, how stressful! Fingers crossed for your DH and you.

SunshineCake1 · 09/11/2021 14:01

@beastlyslumber pretend I am challenging you to help you say no thank you Grin.

Hope you don't hear the news you fear @jellyrolly. Fingers crossed for you all. Re the test, I'm ignoring it. If it is true it has been the case for 35 years or more so...

jellyrolly · 09/11/2021 14:32

Thank you, I haven't told anyone in real life as the place he works will affect a lot of people so I will update when I know. Obviously it will be common knowledge locally soon but not yet. So it's good to dump it here! I ate four pieces of dark chocolate to console myself. Then stopped. Winning.

SunshineCake1 · 09/11/2021 15:54

Well done for stopping. I just ate five squares for no good reason. Hmm.

LittleMissBlatherskite · 09/11/2021 16:19

Weighed myself yesterday down another 2.2lbs. Increased my daily calorie allowance to 1400 last week, as on week 8 of C25K and breastfeeding left me feeling exhausted.

Hoping to enter the next stone bracket by the end of this week. Only 1.5lbs to go!

MyAnacondaMight · 09/11/2021 16:58

Well done @LittleMissBlatherskite ! Hitting the next stone bracket must be a great motivator.
