Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I would like to join. I lost 2 stone end of last year and start of this year but then stopped so want to get back on it. Have another 2 stone to lose.

I am just going to track your sing my fitness Pal but focus on moving more and trying to do more home yoga as I felt the changes in my body. Also no alcohol bar the 2 nights out I have planned. Think I might me perimenopausal so anxious and moody so hoping it all helps that too.

Youdoyoutoday · 01/11/2021 12:02

Knackered!! Bootcamp and swimming done this morning!

So now for the housework after I've finished my coffee.

Welcome to all the newcomers! X

Graphista · 01/11/2021 13:30

Welcome @Helpimfalling I really think those of you that tackle unwanted weight gain BEFORE it gets crazily out of hand are so sensible I wish so much that I had done that

What kind of places do you go to eat as I realise not everywhere have healthy options.

Mostly Italian. That's what's available the next most common option is burger/steak places which as w veggie they aren't very appealing and only have one or two options

I COULD have a salad and pasta with tomato based sauce but I really don't want to spend lots of money on something I can make very easily at home I like to have something a bit different

@BirdFriday welcome very well done on the great weight loss I have a similar amount to lose hoping to be at a healthy weight by my birthday next summer any tips would be great!

@Banani welcome I kidded myself it was pregnancy too for a while except really I lost the weight the 1st year after the pregnancy and started gaining in dds 2nd year...she's now 20!! I've lost at various points and didn't keep it off, then a few years back it was really bad and I went ww where I lost just short of 2 stone and mostly kept it off until last year when it started creeping on again plus my bp also crept up and I knew I had to tackle it

@TheRealHousewife had a few low days/hibernated not sure exactly why feeling a bit better today. Did as I pleased over weekend - result surprisingly was a small weight loss but also a very uncomfortable stomach/digestion system I clearly simply can't eat like that any more (and probably never could I have vague recollections of being like that some days before starting this)

I think a combination of

Eating too much
Not having my actimel
I think I may be sensitive to though not actually intolerant of gluten as I had a LOT of wheat and had a lot of bloating, wind, indigestion and horrific heartburn!

Sooooo not worth it lesson learnt

@HippoHips welcome sounds like you haven't loads to lose which is sensible I'm sure you can manage it

@Sunflowers765 welcome well done on sober October 1500 is my cals too I'm aiming for how did you settle on that number? I find it very helpful to have smaller/shorter term goals as well as the main one I use the happy scale app and have it set for 1/2 stone mini goals. But then I was close to cracking the 12.5 stone one and then buggered it up! Need to get back on track

@dixiebloom welcome I have around the same amount to lose, 1-2lb a week is a sensible pace I average 1lb a week - the 🐢 club as we call it here - slow and steady wins the race! Loads of research says slow weight loss also equals long term sleeping it off too

I weigh weekly on Wednesday now - wow - which is what a number of posters do

@Youdoyoutoday hey you! Good luck with the boot camp I am in awe you go at all!

@HippoHips I'm ltd on exercise due to disability it's definitely possible to lose weight via diet alone. Our metabolism slows as we get older but also my tip is to not have in the house the foods that are likely to tempt you. I went off plan over the weekend but I couldn't go way off plan cos I simply didn't have the worst offenders available! For me that's crisps (including Doritos, Pringles etc) cheese (love my cheese so now I only have in cottage cheese and reduced fat cheddar, I can't be trusted with a wedge of Brie!) And cake (slight concession here as I get the soreen mini lunch loaves in as a lower cal option but otherwise no cake and I don't bake any either which I was doing loads in lockdown but there's only me here to eat it!)

Everyone has their "downfall" item and I think it's best wherever possible just to not have that thing in the house.

Hello again to @Elle200 and @swampytiggaa you are both inspirational in different ways good to see you

@LittleMissBlatherskite welcome that's a huge weight loss! Which is great but be aware the first week that often happens but then the rate slows - that's ok. I lost 5.5lbs in first week but now average 1lb a week

Congratulations on the s scrumptious baby

@buzzofthebumblebee I went off track too but yes, back on it today!

@Crazzzycat good to see you back

@Fatflump welcome indeed

Smaller and more realistic goals are better no point setting yourself up to fail. This is a very positive thread which is far more likely to mean results than fat shaming of ourselves or others.

@Weepingwillows12 welcome and well done on the loss so far

Personally I'm not a fan of mfp as I learned anyone can update their database and it's not verified and several of the items I looked up the info was inaccurate often wildly so. Now I simply check labels or look up on more accurate sites. But each to their own

Not sure yet what I'm having today yet will post when I've worked that out

TheRealHousewife · 01/11/2021 14:24

You’re very welcome @buzzofthebumblebee well done on your progress👍 We are following very similar principles 😊

Welcome back @Crazzzycat nice to see you 👍 Sometimes it’s more productive long term to take a break and then come back to it.

A warm welcome @Fatflump and thank you to @Youdoyoutoday for signposting you ❤️ You have outlined a doable plan so you’ve started on the right foot! Congrats on your loss to date! Great support to be had on these threads.

@youdoyoutoday Well done on your exercise you’ve got in already today 👍🥇

A warm welcome @Weepingwillows12. You’ve achieved great progress so far. You’re right in thinking meno/hormones might be making it more tough for you. Is it worth getting your hormone profile done to see if there’s any replacement needed.

@Graphista great to read you’re feeling a little better! Nice to have you back 😊 You might be right about the gluten.

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy vegetable & chicken soup.
Meal 2 - Roast chicken dinner (did double yesterday so no prep) Sugar free jelly/cream.
Water, water, water. Tea, black coffee.

@TheRealHousewife thanks

Ok so :

Lunch - cup a soup and quorn sandwiches, couple of melon fingers (they're always on a "3 for" with Tesco) and a choc pot - 555 cals in all

Dinner - is gonna be a quorn stir fry with Cous cous - but I'm gonna cut the quorn portion down to 50g from usual 75g and bump up the veggies even more and cut the cous cous portion down again too

SunshineCake1 · 01/11/2021 15:55

Hi everyone

Will read properly. And I am still doing what we are doing. But bombshell from h this morning and right now I can't concentrate very well.

Graphista · 01/11/2021 16:08

@SunshineCake1 sorry you're dealing with that. We're here if you need even by pm if that's easier take care Thanks

dixiebloom · 01/11/2021 19:01

@Graphista I think I will start weekly weighin on Wednesdays as it is probably phychologically :)

TheRealHousewife · 01/11/2021 20:16

@SunshineCake1 Sending positive thoughts and a hug ❤️

I feel jet lagged from the change in clocks at the weekend. Absolutely shattered. Early night for me 💤 Night All.

Shamelessly placemarking.

Have gone from 9st 10lb to 14st 5lb in two years. Nothing seems to be shifting it so need all the inspiration / motivation available.

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/11/2021 20:43

Focus and dedication will shift it Kitfish. But you will need to WANT to shift it more than the snacks etc. I do actually ask myself "Do I want the chocolate / bread / wine etc more than I want to be slim?" Answer is always no. It's miserable, but longer-term gain outweighs short term craving. Good luck!

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/11/2021 20:44

@SunshineCake1 hope you are OK .... thinking of you Flowers

swampytiggaa · 01/11/2021 20:50

@SunshineCake1 much love to you 💕

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2021 08:41

Good Morning Everyone

A warm welcome @Kitfish. Do you think your gain over eating or could it be health related. I only ask as when my weight started to go up week on week with no change in eating habits it turned out to be under active thyroid. Still not at optimum levels but GP won’t increase my dosage so weight loss remains difficult. Do you have a plan?

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy Vegetable & Chicken Soup.
Meal 2 - Fish tray bake. Sugar free jelly/small amount of cream.

Water, tea with milk, black coffee.

This is so true isn't it? We all want the magic pill that we can take to wake up slimmer the next day but the absolute, horrific truth is that if we really want to be slimmer, healthier and lighter then we really need to work at it and we are definitely in for a long old slog! I think once you make peace with that and embrace it, it's easier! The "quick and easy" diets just don't work, we know that so why torture ourselves with them?

We also need to realise and remember that it's not all just about a loss on the scales every day, maintaining a loss is a win, healthier looking skin is a win, jeans being a bit looser is a win, having just one square of chocolate instead of the whole bar is a win!

My dad thinks I'm crazy doing bootcsmp but I've said to him that I can't sit on my arse complaining about being fat and not do anything about it, if I want to change, I'm the only person who can do it!

I started noom back in January and I've lost 36lbs so far, it's been hard, slow going but I'm very proud of it because I've kept it off too and that a big win.

So to all our newcomers, be patient with yourself. If you feel yourself dipping in to the unhealthy snack then do yourself a favour and have a glass of water and do something else for 10 minutes like clean out that cluttered drawer.
If you still fancy that unhealthy snack then just a have a small portion!! I find if I crave something, its better just to have a bit otherwise I end up eating more calories trying to satisfy that specific craving.
Other things I do are using smaller plates and cutlery, meal plan, measure and weigh portions and the biggest thing (which I wish I'd done sooner) give up drinking wine every day, I'm fresh bloated, my skin looks better and I'm sleeping better.

I feel like I rambling so if you've taken anything from reading this let it be that Rome wasn't built in a day and be kind to yourself!!

14.2 on the scales this morning for me so still the same! 😊

Youdoyoutoday · 02/11/2021 10:04

Fresh bloated? No longer bloated!

This is why you shouldn't post with ankle biters about! 🤣

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2021 10:12

Great posts @buzzofthebumblebee & @Youdoyoutoday ! 👍. You are both absolutely spot on! I ❤️ the ladies on these threads 😊

It's great having this thread as support.

It's nice to swap ideas, know that others in the same boat and also have people as a sounding board when you want to have a little moan because the scales just aren't shifting in the right direction!! Wish I'd joined sooner!!

❤❤

Hi everyone!

I'm a mum of 1 DS aged 4.5 years still trying to get back to pre-baby bod! I'd also really like to get back into a healthier weight range before we try for number 2 :)

I weigh around 10 stone 3 but would love to see those 9 stones again same as you @Helpimfalling! Going to add some mini goal weights just for motivation:

CW: 10 st 3
UGW: 9 st 6

GW 1: 9 st 13 (Monday 15th November)
GW 2: 9 st 10 (Mondy 22nd November)
GW 3: 9 st 8 (Monday 29th November)
GW 4: 9 st 6 (Monday 6th December)

So 10 pounds in around a month which is more than achievable as a lot of it is bloat from the crap i've eaten the last two weeks.

Love this thread's positive vibe as I feel whenever I've tried to be ultra restrictive and punishing it's miserable, bad for my mental health and unsustainable.

Hubby and I have a kid-free nights on the 26th November and 8th December which are good motivators, going to start looking for an outfit soon which will be my focus.

Little plan:

  1. Carb-free dinners
  2. More water
  3. Journalling instead of eating my feelings
  4. Dressing nicely each day (this helps me feel better about myself and stops me eating crap somehow).
  5. Eating less sugar and crap in front of my kid
  6. More general activity (dog walks etc)
  7. Swimming
TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2021 16:52

A warm welcome @amorningperson, you’ve come to right place. There’s no preaching or harsh words on here. We generally accept that each person knows what works for them as weight loss is not about a one size fits all. That said, we do share our research and online reading to help & inspire. Your Little Plan looks doable and I’m sure will lead to Big Results 👍

Hi, I would love to join. I have always been fairly slim, careful about diet and exercise but the menopause has really made it difficult to lose any extra pounds. I have about a stone to lose. I was doing well but have been derailed a bit by having Halloween sweets around and feeling tired and sorry for myself!

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2021 17:56

Welcome @jellyrolly love your username 😬. Hormones or rather the change in the levels can be the saboteurs of weight loss. But don’t let the buggers win!

Well I was dedicated this morning got up a bit earlier to fit in a weights workout before work. So working out at 4am then 😭😭

Still fasting 16:8 but probably more like 17:7 most days.

Food could be better but I’ve cut out chocolate (again) and pretty much cut out biscuits so that’s got to help!

Anyway well done everyone for getting through Tuesday 👍 we’ve got this!
