Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Thanks for the new thread! SmileBrewwill continue to follow and check in a couple of times a month if that's ok as it's keeping me on track. I started my weight loss journey at just over 12st September 2020 and had reached my goal of 9 st 10 by this summer. Am trying to maintain but unfortunately I have Covid and have dropped a few more pounds due to this.

Graphista · 27/10/2021 18:57

@TheRealHousewife thanks for shiny new thread

I am most annoyed with myself as only lost 1/4 lb last month!

So - onwards and inwards!

1 1500 cal limit daily

2 Plan BEFORE I eat and adjust accordingly

3 Drink plenty! (Haven't been doing this I think I got kinda fed up with it after drinking so much while I was ill mid sep)

4 Less sweet treats! Certainly not necessary with EVERY meal (this is a really hard habit for me to break as I grew up with and then continued all adult life with a pudding after every meal except breakfast and breakfast was usually cereal or toast and jam!)

5 Figure out the eating out thing! (It's only once a week but I'm really struggling with this! Any and all tips gratefully received)

Hoping to lose at least 4lbs this month, get under the 12.5 stone mark.

Dd is coming up for a visit january so we can celebrate her 21st together sort of as she'll be mid uni term for it and I wouldn't see her otherwise. Would be GREAT to be under 12 stone for that, I think she would notice a difference then, I was 13 stone 3 lbs when she last visited.

Helpimfalling · 28/10/2021 11:10

Hello hello I was searching for a thread like this to keep me accountable.

If I may join?

Lockdown has helped me to go from 9st ish which I was happy with to 10.8
(All gained this year.)(read last few months)

I'm doing the 20:4 for the last week.

I dropped weight on it before and managed to maintain. It really use to work for me so I'm hoping the same success again.

I'm currently 10.5 and I just want to see 9...something on the scale in the next few weeks.

So il log it here and hopefully that will help today.

Lots of luck ladies

TheRealHousewife · 28/10/2021 13:12

Welcome @Helpimfalling we usually get a great crowd on these threads, so you’re in safe hands. Having a plan gets you well on your way to reach your goal. You know the more you’re on it (without undue deprivation), the more progress you’ll make. On the current thread (link above in thread starter) I’ve posted an article about Calories and exploring when is a calorie not a calorie. It’s interesting.

SunshineCake1 · 28/10/2021 18:16

Welcome @Helpimfalling. Read previous threads as well if you want.

I'll be on here properly once November starts. Can't do it before then but I'm still on Octobers thread.

swampytiggaa · 29/10/2021 09:24

👋 I’ll be on from Monday need to kick myself back into gear!

TheRealHousewife · 29/10/2021 12:06

Your plan sounds doable @Graphista. I can empathise about having pudding/dessert after each meal. My other half always wants something after his evening meal. Occasionally I do a crumble with cream, but mostly strawberries/blueberries/raspberries (surprisingly low cal) with either cream or full fat Greek yogurt. Sugar free jelly is about 9 cals again with cream or yoghurt (small amount). Sometimes add chopped nuts and a small amount of honey. When eating out I have sauces/gravy on the side and avoid carby stuff. What kind of places do you go to eat as I realise not everywhere have healthy options.

That's the spirit @swampytiggaa :)

On lap top so cant do emojis for some reason.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean Omelette
Meal 2 - Kale, halloumi, red pepper, butter bean stir fry.

Hi! I'd love to join you!

I've lost about 3 stone since beginning of 2020 (most last year then slowly trying to find a balance of losing slowly and finding maintenance). Crept up a few pounds since July and want to lose that plus the extra final half stone for the festive season.

Not sure exactly what today's weight is, but will happily weigh in each Wed.

Banani · 30/10/2021 07:22

I’d love to join.
Gained weight through pregnancy which I’m still trying to lose, youngest is nearly three though!
Successfully managed to lose a couple of stone for my wedding a couple of years back, but did it on a VLCD (exante) and the weight came piling back on during lockdown etc.
I’m around 12.5 stone and would like to lose 2/2.5 in total. I find the scales really demotivate me (whichever way they go) so planning to take each month as a little project and just weigh at the start and end. Will be meal planning and calorie counting which I know works for me, my challenge is sticking to it. Exercise wise, I run regularly and love it, now want to start getting some weight sessions in too, time and tiredness is my issue there.

TheRealHousewife · 30/10/2021 09:04

Good Morning All

Nearing the month end, 2 days to go and as usual I'm being extra vigilant to extra cals creeping in. So easy to do. Last night for example OH wanted a Chinese takeaway for a change. I came so close to ordering but I knew I would regret it and wished I'd not had it. In the end OH decided he wouldn't either. we had what I planned and really enjoyed it.

@Graphista How are you feeling? sending positive thoughts x

Welcome @Banani @BirdFriday.

Fabulous progress Bird! You definitely know what works for you. Keep doing it.

@Banani Weighing doesn't motivate everyone the same way and the last thing you want to do is stress yourself about it. Personally the scales start to stress me if I'm not as on it as usual (I gain very very easily) and they are on an upward trajectory. When I'm on it and seeing results I happily weigh in more times. More recently I've been weighing month start, then weekly, then month end. An older lady I once met on holiday (70's & slim) weighed every morning and if she saw a gain she'd cut back and repeat as needed. It obviously worked for her but that regime wouldn't suit everyone.

Menu
Meal 1 - Stir fry. Apple & Peanut butter.
Meal 2 - Parmesan Coated Chicken, peas, carrots, broccoli.
Water water water, some black coffee (decaf) and tea with milk.

Enjoy your day!

HippoHips · 30/10/2021 23:12

Please can I join! I was on a thread two years ago and managed to go from HippoHips to HulaHips for a while but then I steadily guzzled it all back on this summer. I am currently 66 kilos and I would like to get back to 61 (preferably by the time I wake up tomorrow but failing that a couple of kilos off by Xmas would make me happy). I need motivation and will power both of which I really lack. Not quite sure how I’m going to lose it yet?!! I imagine not eating a Cornish Pastie for lunch every day will be a good start Grin

Sunflowers765 · 31/10/2021 00:26

Can I join? I've just done sober October which has obviously saved some calories but I've been compensating with eating anything and everything! So November is the healthy eating month! I'm going to meal plan, calorie count 1500, and avoid bread and biscuits. Need to lose 3 stone really but will try for 7-10 lbs in November. I'll weigh on Monday 1st November and then every Monday morning.

dixiebloom · 31/10/2021 10:09

Hi can I join in need to lose 3stone 8lbs.
Going to try walking daily & up water intake stop eating after dinner, for 12 hr fast this month. Aim to lose 1 or 2 lb per week.

Youdoyoutoday · 31/10/2021 16:03

Hi everyone!!

I had a 2lbs loss in October but just kept gaining and losing the same few pounds.

I got in to the habit of weighing myself everyday but I've found that it gives me the flaming hump if I've gained so I'm not going to do it every day from now on.

My bootcamp are doing an Xmas incentive with prizes to win for attendance and participation with their app for the next 8 weeks so I've set myself the challenge of a 10lb loss by Xmas! I've taken photos of myself and I should take some measurements too.

Also really relieved that it's not raining round here on my bootcamp days!! But I really have to stop being so wimpy when it comes to doing bootcamp in the rain!!

Good luck everyone x

HippoHips · 31/10/2021 20:33

Well done on the boot camp Youdoyoutoday. I’ve got stitches at the moment after a small op so can’t exercise and it’s definitely impacting on my motivation. I’m much better eating well when I’m not loafing round the house. My age isn’t helping either. It seemed to be much easier to lose weight in my 30s than it is at 50!

Youdoyoutoday · 31/10/2021 20:51

Thanks @HippoHips
I'm 41 and it's a struggle!

Elle200 · 01/11/2021 06:24

Good morning all, thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife :)

October felt like a long month, the rain put me off any outside exercise, and I very rarely lift more than the kettle indoors, so I relied on calorie counting again for any weight loss.

I only weigh on the first day of the month, I lost 1.7kg in October so todays statistics are:

SW 134kg
CW 71.7kg
GW 67kg

I do plan some gluttony over the festive season but would love to reach my goal weight by 01 January 2022.

Good luck everyone :)

swampytiggaa · 01/11/2021 07:37

Morning! I had a shit October after an excellent start 😂😂 think I peaked to soon with the marathon on the 3rd 😂😂

Anyway I’ve been ill and unmotivated since and start November 7lb up from the 1/10 😱

Plan is to

  • increase steps
  • increase water
  • run when possible
  • add in a basic weight routine
  • cut out chocolate
  • fast 16:8
  • aim for sensible food

Looks a lot but I can do it.

swampytiggaa · 01/11/2021 07:37

Oooh good luck everyone and welcome to newbies! Lovely to see you all 😘

TheRealHousewife · 01/11/2021 09:01

Good Morning All

Did you all survive the spookiness of Halloween 👻. Really quiet around here but then again the weather was awful.

Nice to see some new names.

A warm welcome to @HippoHips @Sunflowers765 @dixiebloom

You’re very welcome @Elle200 I’m pleased you’ve joined us again 😊

I’m the same as you @Youdoyoutoday. I’m in reality maintaining but would ideally like to lose another half stone or so. My body has other ideas 😬 Good luck with your Christmas target, you’re doing all the right things 👍.

Looks doable @swampytiggaa 👍(great you’ve joined us again) I’ve been reading James Clear’s Atomic Habits. He says people need to focus more on the system rather than the goal in order to be successful. (Success & failure had started with the same goals, it’s the systems that differed) The way you’ve broken down your ‘system’ for weight loss fits perfectly with his ideology. 1% improvement here and there all add up to make significant changes.

Good Luck Everyone 😊

Hi Everyone,

Please may I join? I gave birth at the beginning of this year and have all most of my baby weight to lose.

I began CC last week, 1400cals a day and running 3x a week. Down a huge 7.5lbs!!
I have 2.5 stone to lose to reach my goal weight. Current target is 10lbs off in Nov ....... but I do have a week long family holiday which will involve all of the food & drink!

TheRealHousewife · 01/11/2021 09:49

Welcome @LittleMissBlatherskite congratulations on your baby! Great you’ve got a plan. I find reading & posting on these threads can help with motivation & accountability. Good luck 🤞

Hello! Checking into the brand new month and thread (thanks @TheRealHousewife) for a good loss. Need to keep motivation and positivity up after loosing 1stone since 1st Sept having given up sugar, most carbs, snacking, wine, and broadly following Fast 800 food principles, but upping my calorie intake to 1200-1400 a day (although I didn't actually count; I just got used to what my daily food intake should look like). I did go completely off-track this weekend, but back on it today.

SW 13 stone 2
CW 12 stone 2
GW 11 stone 2 for now.
Mini-goal is to get comfortably into the 11's which I haven't seen for a good few years.

Welcome all new joiners! Here's to a focussed November for us all.

Crazzzycat · 01/11/2021 10:15

Morning all! I took a break in October, after not losing anything in September.

Miraculously, I’m still the same weight this morning as I was two months ago (78.5 kg). That gives me hope for maintaining long term.

For now, I’m planning to go back to exercise, and calorie counting and will keep my fingers crossed that the scales will move in the right direction again.

Good luck everyone!

Fatflump · 01/11/2021 10:42

Morning all, I hope it is ok to join you - @Youdoyoutoday very kindly suggested on my AIBU thread about weight loss (or lack of) that this might be a good thread for me :)

I am currently very fat. I've lost 8lb in 2.5 weeks, but 7lb of that was week one :/ Originally I was hoping to be another 1.5st lighter by Christmas but based on current losses I think that's optimistic. So aiming for half a stone between now and Christmas but really hoping for a stone.

I am eating relatively healthily (and trying to stick to modest portions too), trying to keep up my water intake and as of today am also trying to do minimum of an hours exercise a day.
