Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Hi everyone. So my plan is to cut out snacking on chocolate or sweets. I think for a couple of weeks it'd do me good to get back in control of snacks. If I have a chocolate bar in the cupboard I can't resist it, but if I don't buy it to begin with it's so much easier for me. Sometimes I have to promise myself I can buy a chocolate bar next time, but not this time. Just sort of trick my brain! I try to talk to myself gently (in my head).

I love walking and I'm building up my stamina. My goal is doing 10km without feeling dead afterwards. Actually there's a hike I'd like to complete when I've built myself up a bit, it's 13km. You can catch a train to the beginning of the hike then a different train home again.

I like to eat low carb high fat, fats and protect fill me up and last longer before I'm hungry again.

Have a good day everyone!

fallfallfall · 04/11/2021 04:18

biopsy tomorrow am (canadian time of course). good food but too much of it but hopefully soon i'll be able to get my head into the right space and work on the portion sizing.
dh doesn't mind the two meals a day, longer am fast but the two meals are carb heavy and big.

132orbust · 04/11/2021 07:23

Hello my peoples - I found you all again.
Sooooo having just failed to get to 132lb in August - I think I was a 1lb or two away - I sort of fell off the thread is September, missed out October and here I am again.
My weight has crept up gradually over the last 10 weeks but I am back on it again.
On the positive my start weight was 151 and I let it slide to 139.8 (hence the desire to get back on it again!!) which is a gain of about 6 lbs in 10 weeks so not terrible - this period contained a holiday too.
On the negative I was about 2 lbs away and now I am 8lbs away and I was not sure if 132 was going to be my final destination....
Btw seeing all this talk of menopause, I am 53 and I cannot even say I am perimenopausal as here I am month in, month out just as I ever was and apart from I am sure my hair is not as thick as it once was ( but maybe I am thicker Grin ) not a sign of it. Still having to be careful too so I don't rival Elizabeth from the bible!!
Shout out to all my old chums - shower me with your positivity @SunshineCake1 @Graphista @fallfallfall @TheRealHousewife

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 08:49

Good Morning All

@SunshineCake1 #freezer = not yet. Pleased to read you’re getting back into it and the situation settling at home 😊

@fatflump well done on your loss to date 👏👍 Keep going, it’s obviously working 😬

@Yoyo2021 Hi. Yes 2 meals a day now. Occasionally a snack in between. Before my SCI and thyroid issues I used to be a morning person who ate 3 - 5 times a day, 2 of those being breakfast at 6:00 & 10:00 😮. I used to eat much much more but was super fit. Think regular 1/2 marathons, cycle challenges, swimming. I was 8 stone of muscle. I’ve done a total turnaround (wrong way but not anything I can do something about). I’m not much use before 12:00 including no appetite until lunch time. Having 2 main meals a day is really easy for me and I don’t feel deprived. It doesn’t suit everyone but you could give it a whirl. It’s importance to have enough protein & fat in the leaps you do have to keep you satiated. Reduce sugars, carbs, alcohol etc which will aid in keeping blood sugars balanced and cravings at bay.

@swampytiggaa let me know how your chakra balancing goes. I’m intrigued. 😬

@buzzofthebumblebee Thank you. One has to try … and I’ve been told I’m very trying 😬 It’s a little annoying to forget to weigh and only remember after having had loads of liquids. I’ve done that once or twice too.

@DownUdderer that hike seems lovely, especially the bit that involves the train journey. I love 🚂 and stations. They are so romantic, the comings and going’s, the meet and greets and the waving off of loved ones. Soz went of at a bit of a tangent there.

@fallfallfall Hand hold and sending ❤️ Hope all goes well.

A very warm welcome back @132orbust, lovely to have you join us again. I’m sure you’ll see the gain gone!

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi, kale, carrot, red pepper, butter bean stir fry (one of my favourites)
Meal 2 - Cod (plain, baked), peas, carrots and new potatoes (3 little ones, skin on)
Water, tea, black coffee. Half Avocado.

Have a great day everyone.

@buzzofthebumblebee SunshineDog as a puppy ❤️

Hope your biopsy goes okay @fallfallfall. Could you alternate who chooses your meals with if your DH chooses carb heavy if you don't want and you serve yourself?

Welcome back @132orbust. I missed you. I put about ten pounds in during my ten weeks in bed and a week in hospital. I'm most annoyed but tell myself the chocolate was great Grin. I'm totally back in the game of IF and have been eating smaller and lighter dinners as that is what I feel like. Been having more at lunch which helps. Mental health rubbish but will get there and my mammogram yesterday was clear so that is good too.

Oh my goodness sunshine what an adorable picture of puppy ❤️glad the mammogram went well Thanks

Youdoyoutoday · 04/11/2021 12:06

Morning ladies, just been having a read through as I've not been about for a couple of days.

@SunshineCake1 you sound much happier, I'm glad you're getting out and about!

@swampytiggaa I'm still in awe of your energy levels! Please let us know what happens with your chakras!

@Graphista have to say when I go out for dinner, I tend to just have what I fancy as what's the point of doing all this hard work if you can't have the occasional treat? I don't go mad and tend to naturally stay away from chips and other fried stuff any way but a prawn linguine or steak, salad and baked potato with sour cream are right up my alley along with a glass or 3 of red wine! Grin

So I did bootcamp yesterday and went swimming this morning.

Weigh in this morning shows I've put 1lb on!!
Not sure how but I can't let myself get moody about it, I'm confused by it though.
However my size 18 jeggings are sliding off me and look horribly baggy looking now whereas they were fitted before, my pyjamas bottoms won't stay up if I put my phone in my pocket, I don't look as "pregnant" as I did a few weeks ago, my thighs are looking more defined (squats apparently do work)!

So I'm going to keep hold of these positives, add them to my others like I am eating far better than I was, I drink far less alcohol, and I've still maintained a 35lb loss since starting!

Happy Thursday all 😊

SunshineCake1 · 04/11/2021 12:28

Thank youn@SunshineCake1. We cross posted. It is a work in progress.

I've been for another run then walked the dog. Feeling breathless now though from doing stuff so will go down and feed the dog as no one in then sit for a while.

I weighed this morning as I've run three times and I have lost 1.2lbs since my last weigh on October 29th so happy about that.

SunshineCake1 · 04/11/2021 12:35

Keep cross posting!

Thank you @joysmoy66. She's grown so fast. She's five now Shock.

@Youdoyoutoday thank you. I am so much happier now I can run albeit still slowly.

SunshineCake1 · 04/11/2021 12:37

There is no rhyme or reason sometimes @Youdoyoutoday. I think lots of us have put weight on after doing really well and thought WTH but we've all eaten everything or large portions and lost weight. Once you accept that ime it helps and reminds me that it is what we eat more than how much I think.

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 13:01

@Youdoyoutoday great NSVs, we’ll done! Great loss to date too 👍👏. I’d recommend not answering the door to the postman whilst phone is in pj pocket 😬.

OMG - GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS PUPPY @SunshineCake1 My boy's 10. Thank you for that.

Love your positive attitude @Youdoyoutoday. SO frustrating when you put so much effort in and don't see a loss. Even worse to see a gain. But you know the score with such an amazing loss. Bootcamp & swimming = calorie burn, but also means converting fat to muscle, and getting leaner, despite scales not telling you so. Sounds as though you are really seeing the benefits and feeling it in your clothes which is fantastic! Am sure there will be a whoosh loss soon.

I have a big pot of butternut squash & carrot soup simmering for soup. It smells yum, but I still wish I had some of your stir fry TheReal ; )

Youdoyoutoday · 04/11/2021 13:26

Haha! To be fair I think my postman is used to seeing in various states of undress due to breastfeeding on the couch which you can clearly see from the outside because of how my house is laid out. I was slightly mortified when I bumped in to him at the pub, neither of us knew where to look Grin

SunshineCake1 · 04/11/2021 13:55

Just another thought. I had times when the scales were saying I was gaining or staying the same but the tape measure said I was getting smaller to do that too.

Timetobuckup · 04/11/2021 14:49

Hi all , joining late but I hope that's OK.
I started on Monday doing WW and have over 3 stones to lose.....

Would be good to have somewhere to check in on a daily basis to keep accountability.

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 14:49

@buzzofthebumblebee your soup sounds delish 😋 posted pic of today’s meal 1. Calorific but won’t I get to have meal 2 until about 20:30 as have an appointment later.

@Youdoyoutoday I’m sure he is the soul of discretion. I bet window cleaners and postmen see some right stuff 😬

No worries @SunshineCake1 it’s great you’re getting back into it.

Aww she's so cute sunshine bet she's a lot bigger now! My dogs 10 and starting to slow down bless her

Timetobuckup · 04/11/2021 14:58

Thank you @TheRealHousewife

So far so good this week but keeping it up for weeks on end is the tricky bit.
I am going to try really hard to just focus on a half stone at a time and not fear the bigger picture
And booze is my downfall so I also need to watch that as well. A drink just seems to require snacks !

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 04/11/2021 15:55

Hello, I've lost 3 pounds this week following slimming eats which gives various nutritional info along with calories, WW points and SW syns. I wanted to join SW but my nearest class clashes with my shifts, online joining is £69 up front so I'm going to just use these recipes. Xx

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 04/11/2021 15:57

Ps I'm making this today but adding sugar snap peas and making crushed baby pots as a side for my Husband xx

SunshineCake1 · 04/11/2021 16:20

Welcome @Timetobuckup. I had lost three stone so it can be done. Sadly I've been poorly so put about 10 pounds back on but I'm back on the case. Good luck!

buzzofthebumblebee · 04/11/2021 16:25

What's your tipple Time? I find if I drink wine I crave sugary snacks big time. Plus I never stop at one glass... Blush
Since starting beginning Sept I have massively cut-down alcohol, but still partial to a Gin & slimline tonic, and if I want another, I just have more tonic. I have also completely stopped snacking. Un-necessary calories. Plus again, I have no off switch. So complete veto on snacking means no internal wrangling - shall I, shan't I, just one piece, today but not tomorrow etc etc.
All that internal dialogue which just makes loosing weight constantly in your head, which I find makes me think about food even more.
Not sure if any of that makes sense, but it works for me. Appreciate we're all different !!

jellyrolly · 04/11/2021 18:12

I have decided to drink a glass of water every time I am tempted to snack today. More or less stuck to that and feel much better for it. My kids were both sick. My dog is sick. I am sick of all of them and would normally have had a treat to cheer myself up. Not that I could face chocolate after my dog's....outcome Grin
