So sorry to hear you're still ill @poorpaws. Please keep warm in this horrible weather and take it easy on yourself for a while! Thanks

Bjarnum · 09/01/2022 14:55

I am really ill. Continual cough making my ribs hurt, runny nose, high temperature and sore throat. 2 negative LFTs and 1 negative PCR. I am literally the only one without covid in the entire family! And I am now by far the most ill - perhaps I've got what paws has . Bloody hope not. Going into hibernation till this passes.

poorpaws · 09/01/2022 17:29

Oh bloody hell @Bjarnum I so hope you haven't got what I’ve got, without exaggeration, it’s horrendous. If it’s “just” a cold it’s by far the worst I’ve ever had and I think I’ve aged 10 years. It’s been over 2 weeks now and every day I think it must be better but it really doesn’t. Today I watched DP take the dogs out (watched through the kitchen window) and I was so envious, I could have just cried.

I’ve said tomorrow I am going out no matter what but DP thinks it’s too early and I’m still too ill. I hope you get better very soon @Bjarnum, take great care of yourself.

In dieting news I haven't weighed, haven’t exercised and haven’t stopped eating so tomorrow’s weigh-in will be upsetting but I can’t help it and will have to take full responsibility and deal with it.

I hope everyone is doing well with diet/exercise. I’m usually on it at the beginning of a new year but not this year I’m afraid.

TalkToTheHand123 · 09/01/2022 19:37

Following a couple of free pasties and sausage rolls, I'll be skipping any weighins for a few days.

Bjarnum · 09/01/2022 20:03

paws Sorry to hear you are still suffering. I have never felt this rough before - and I've had 2 heart attacks and birthed a 10lb breech baby! (obvs not all at once!) It took all of my stamina to drag myself off to the shower. talktothehand God knows what I weigh - I must have put on a stone, everything is too tight. Can't face a reality check just yet.... Will be cheering you all on from the sidelines for a bit

poorpaws · 09/01/2022 22:31

@Bjarnum I know exactly how you feel. It really is the very worst cold I’ve ever had and DP is positive it’s Covid related if not actually Covid. Everything, even the smallest task was a major effort. I clearly remember washing a few mugs and bowls (not many) and I had to sit down and rest after a couple of mugs, it’s relentless.

I am crossing everything that yours isnt what I’ve got and you’ll get better very quickly. Every day I say I’m definitely going out today because I’m so bored and fed up at home and then I haven’t got the energy to even get dressed. Sending you a big hug and hope you get better very quickly.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/01/2022 23:02

Sending lots of sympathy your way @Bjarnum and @poorpaws - I do hope your awful cold/ flu/ Covid-related bugs go soon! I remember being so very ill with flu in January 2018, weeks and weeks of feeling terrible, by the end of it I'd strained ribs (and ruined what was left of my pelvic floor) by coughing so much! Just awful - you have all my best wishes Flowers

Nothing much to report here - DP took the DC to see PIL earlier so I would 'have a bit of time to myself'. AKA: I spent hours cleaning and tidying and he sat on his arse letting MIL wait on him hand and foot... but apparently I will have 'had a break' Hmm

gonelululemoncrazy · 10/01/2022 07:29

Good morning everyone. Poor @Bjarnum and @poorpaws, hope you both manage to shift it soon Flowers- we all had an awful flu over Christmas 2019 which literally knocked me off my feet.

So weigh in for me:

SW 13.5
CW 12.9
GW 11.0

I'm going to go ahead and persevere with attempting a superhuman week, but I guess it will be a solo effort unless you have the energy for it Clara?

poorpaws · 10/01/2022 08:25

Morning everyone. So I got up early, coughed a lot, blew my nose a lot and I’m not having any more of this! I’ve decided two weeks, well over two weeks, is quite enough and if I have to crawl during a dog walk i’m still going out.

SW: 12sts 2.75 lbs
CW: 11sts 1.5
GW: 10sts by Easter

I can’t even remember what I weighed before I was ill but I think it was something like 10 stone 10 lb so I’ve gained something like 5 1/2 pounds which I’m not even going to berate myself for because I felt so ill and needed comfort food and of course there was no exercising of any sort. Time to knuckle down and lose weight now until Easter.

@gonelululemoncrazy I’m going to do my best with a superhuman week if I can, I really need to get back on track. So back to dog walks, a lot less food and post daily, ok? Good luck.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 10/01/2022 08:27

@Bjarnum I hope you are coping with this awful cold/flu/whatever it is. You are in my thoughts because I know just how bad you will be feeling right now Flowers

OP posts:
Bjarnum · 10/01/2022 13:31

poorpaws Have you managed to get out yet? I'm trying to stop the endless and painful coughing by sipping cold water. So now I have to drag upstairs every 10 minutes. My DD1 has asked me to go line dancing with her - I don't think I could even make it to the hall . The house looks like a bomb has hit it - I've just no energy at all. @gonelululemoncrazy good luck with your week - I'm with you in spirit.
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I so know what you mean about the pelvic floor - but best I leave it at that! In my darker moments I wonder if this has turned into pneumonia.

poorpaws · 11/01/2022 08:55

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well.

I must have the best neighbours ever. Yesterday morning a card was put through my letterbox with a long note inside from a neighbour who wanted to do my shopping and anything else I needed and enclosed her phone number so I could ring her.

I then did a dog walk and as I walked down the road I saw another neighbour outside her house holding a large jug of home made carrot, parsnip and lentil soup. It was still steaming hot as she wanted me to have a hot lunch as soon as I got in. They are amazing both of them.

How are you doing @Bjarnum? I managed a dog walk (only because I was determined) but I slept in the chair in the afternoon, something I never do.

@gonelululemoncrazy how is your superhuman effort going? I did eat less yesterday but I just don’t feel well enough to properly join you. Maybe in two weeks?

I hope everyone is ok and coping with the cold or illness or difficult DPs. 😁

gonelululemoncrazy · 11/01/2022 09:04

@poorpaws, your neighbours seem lovely. We have families either side of us with similar aged children who go to the same schools, so we all help each other out. A while back on one side their whole fence (which they had just paid someone to put up), came down in a storm and we were all helping them out with it first thing in the morning.

So far so good on my on my effort - yesterday I ran, walked, did an exercise routine I found on Pinterest and kept to 1200 cals. Fingers crossed I can keep this up for seven days!

Bjarnum · 11/01/2022 13:23

Sounds like you are slowly on the mendpaws - it also sounds as if we have the same thing. If memory serves you are down Dartmouth way - I am in Wiltshire. Whatever we have must be quite widespread. I'm still testing negative for covid - despite having all the symptoms in trumps - but everyone else in the house is positive. All the best with your week gonelululemoncrazy I'll be with you as soon as I can.Because we are all isolating we are living off the freezer stores which means a rather random menu. clara Thanks for the sympathy! And well done for not bumping your DP off.

suzyscat · 12/01/2022 11:45

Hello ladies, sorry to read of so much poorliness. Can I join, this is exactly the sort of moral support I need. I'd go back to SW but there just aren't groups that fit my timetable anymore and there's proper scales at my gym, but it's the accountability I need. Blush

I knew it was going to be bad news but got a shock when I got back on the scales at the weekend. In the past I've gained weight horrifically quickly but also lost it quickly too. I feel the losses are getting slower too.

Not sure what my goal should be but I usually give up and feel great before 10 and half stone. I'd like to push to 9 or 9.5 (even 8
Isn't underweight for me tbf) but I'd like the easy half a stone swinging gain to land me at 10 / 10&1/2 rather than where it does.

SW (well last Saturday) 11st 6
Goal 10 (for now, maybe 9st 7)

poorpaws · 12/01/2022 22:18

Welcome @suzyscat, it’s nice to have you on board. We are a very small but friendly and supportive group. Sadly some of us aren’t feeling well so it’s difficult to diet but normally we do try hard and have all lost some weight over the time this thread has been running. My goal is about 10sts but I’m really stuck atm. How tall are you?

@Bjarnum how are you feeling? I know it’s fairly early days for you so no doubt you are feeling rubbish but I keep sending you positive get well vibes. I am not far off a month into this illness and I still feel rubbish although I have started walking again but I do nothing else.

I’ve had the evening from hell food wise. I made quite a big chicken stirfry but I’ve been absolutely starving all evening and I’ve just snacked on anything I could find in the cupboard, it’s just been continual eating since about 5 o’clock. I keep telling myself that I have to feed this cold and as soon as I feel better I’ll work hard on diet and exercise.

I hope everyone is doing okay, it’s a bit slow on here but I think it must be the time of year, we are all a bit fed up!

@gonelululemoncrazy how is your superhuman week going? I hope you are doing well.

OP posts:
Bjarnum · 12/01/2022 23:50

Hi suzycat and welcome. paws Thanks for the vibes and pleased to hear you are making some progress towards getting better. I am trying endless lemsips but they don't seem to be doing much. The cough is now very chesty . Given up trying to diet - things are miserable enough as it is! Maybe next week.

gonelululemoncrazy · 13/01/2022 07:21

@poorpaws it was going really well until I had a bit of a mare at work yesterday which required some serious chocolate therapy. Will make amends today!

Hi suzycat welcome on board.

poorpaws · 13/01/2022 08:22

I spoke too soon about getting back to the dog walking. I have been up all night coughing and I simply haven’t got the energy to do anything today. I’ve had double breakfast (porridge and two slices of toast) and Im still craving food. At this rate I’m going to put all the weight back on before this cold is over.

@Bjarnum I’ve decided to give up on the diet for the moment too. I just feel too ill and I’m craving food, any food. I can’t believe I’ve had it for nearly 4 weeks now and this morning I don’t feel any better. I hope you are feeling brighter although to be honest I don’t think you’ll be better for quite some time. Lemsips didn’t work for me either. The only thing to make me a little better was paracetamol which at least dulled the awful headaches. DP is still convinced it’s covid related.

@gonelululemoncrazy
Chocolate is the best therapy and it’s so difficult to do a superhuman week alone. Perhaps in a couple of weeks we’ll all be up for one.

I’ll keep checking in but the diet is definitely off. Good luck to those still trying.

OP posts:
Bjarnum · 13/01/2022 13:15

paws I think your dp is right - too many similarities to covid/long covid to be a co-incidence. Last night - literally in the middle of a sandwich - I lost my senses of taste and smell. Stupidly, I am still compelled to eat continuously! Sorry to hear your cough is not abating - mine seems a little better but I am sneezing a lot and my nose is raw from streaming and despite lashings of zovirax the tell tale tingle of emerging cold sores hint at misery to come. suzycat hopefully we will be in a position to be more supportive once we are feeling better - our posts are not usually full of our respective symptoms! @gonelululemoncrazy I promise we will be with you as soon as we can!

poorpaws · 13/01/2022 19:01

@Bjarnum I’ve used nearly a whole tube of Zovirax. I know the tubes are very small but it usually goes a long way and I’ve had to put it on daily both top and bottom lip, as you so rightly say I recognise the tingling.

I’ve had a day of sitting around eating all day. I know I will have put weight on but I’m really worried that it will be everything I’ve lost if I’m not careful. I got so desperate for something sweet I defrosted fruit cake I’d frozen and I’ve eaten a lot of it.

Tomorrow is another day, I just hope it’s a day we all start to feel better.

suzyscat · 13/01/2022 22:50

Oh you poor things. It's so important to keep your strength up and not give yourself added worries ie diet when your body is fighting illness. My dad always orders a hot curry when he's sick and tries to sweat it out. I love a takeaway curry so always make sure to treat myself one with one additional hot dish when I'm sick. (I quite do the hot full sweat it out thing my dad does though, more of a treat )

@poorpaws an absolute game changer for me with cold sores has been lysine. I stumbled across it by accident but I've only had a few tiny ones in the last couple of years that have barely started and quickly gone.

You can buy supplements in holland and barrat, but topical lysine balms are purportedly even better (I use a combination.) I also eat a high lysene dairy & poultry mainly I think, maybe green veg and alow argenine diet nuts, chocolate, berries are the main thing sadly. (All the things I eat when I'm I'll too Confused) I've heard argenine (whilst important for your body acts like a ladder for the virus.) Full disclaimer. I have no medical or nutritional qualifications I'm just a nun who fell down an internet rabbit hole. Definitely worth a Google anyway. Before that I used a cold sore machine from boots but I think discontinued them and then brought them back at triple price or something. It was years ago now.

I was back to work this week. I find it very hard cooking as I'm in late for the kids tea and tired and have muddy kit cluttering up the place so takeaway is our go to. (OH doesn't cook but is very generous with takeaway budget.) Anyway I think I have that new year, scales shocker, fresh enthusiasm energy this week and have managed to avoid it. We may have one tomorrow but it will contain salads and grilled meats (as well as chips and buttery rice so not the worst although still a treat.)

I do think appreciating high days and holidays, taking time to bake with the kids (even if you know you'll wolf them down) is important, it doesn't have to be linear as long we're heading in the right direction. Does that make sense? There have been so many interrupting whilst I've been typing. Hmm TLC all round, whatever form you need it in. Brew

Bjarnum · 14/01/2022 21:53

suzyscat I seem to have headed off the cold sores- the tingling has gone. Will have a look for lysine the next time I'm in Holland and Barrat. I'm giving curry a miss - can't abide the stuff .Wait! You're a nun? A married nun? How exciting do tell us something of what a typical day looks like for you.
Sadly I am no longer heading in the right direction! However, it is temporary and I will get back on track.
paws How are you? Any sign of things improving? I still have no taste/smell. But after my shower this morning I did manage some general tidying. And I've started knitting in short spells to give me something to do with my hands instead of eating. Mostly I sleep - an hour or so at a time, then awake for an hour. And repeat. I can't focus on reading so I watch TV. I can relate to the defrosted fruitcake - I defrosted a huge chunk of frozen wedding cake. And I can't even taste it!
gonelululemoncrazy Looks like you are left waving the flag for all of us. Well done and hang in there - we'll be joining you as soon as we can

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/01/2022 22:10

Just checking in quickly as I'm flipping exhausted - if I could nap too I'd love it @Bjarnum!! It sounds like you and @poorpaws have been completely wiped out by this bug Sad sending you both best wishes and hope you feel better soon Flowers

poorpaws · 15/01/2022 09:06

@suzyscat your post was very informative and interesting. I have to admit ive got form for buying loads of vitamin tablets/supplements, putting them in a cupboard and throwing the whole lot out when they are out of date 😊

@Bjarnum how are you today? I keep thinking about you and wishing you well. I’ve only been up for 2 hours but I THINK (dare I even say it) I feel a tiny bit better. I am still coughing and still have a runny nose even after all these weeks but I feel as if I have a tiny bit of energy, not much but I’m clinging to it as a positive.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl sorry to hear you’re exhausted, time to get the whip out for your DP.

So here’s hoping we all feel better for Monday’s weigh-in. I have to admit I feel enormous (especially around the tummy area) but I’ve needed to eat to hopefully get better so Im going to have to deal with it and climb back on the wagon.

Sending get well wishes to all our poorly/exhausted family.
