@Bjarnum I feel that the bride has somewhat unrealistic expectations...! Good to see that your dog isn't taking it all too seriously Grin

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the New Year Smile - for me I really must hop back on that wagon (please hitch it up @poorpaws!) and find my fitness motivation again. I have loads of clothes I'd love to fit into and I really must tackle my weight issue once and for all, I made a good start this year but then it tailed off. I was thinking about some long term aims too, for example when the DC are older and either more independent or up for 'different' holidays, I'd like to do some proper walking tours: Machu Picchu further afield or closer to home, something like this in Croatia - but I'd really have to improve my fitness (and save up, sadly!). And DP keeps bleating about wanting to lose weight whilst today eating pie and chips so maybe it would motivate him too...!

poorpaws · 01/01/2022 09:25

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone, lets make this a year to remember when we all shred this unwanted weight once and for all.

@Bjarnum
You are very much in my thoughts today. I hope everything goes well for you and your family. Flowers

Well said @poorpaws!!

Hope everyone is enjoying NYD - DP finally got out of bed late morning and has taken the DC to see MIL for a while, where no doubt he will snore on the sofa Hmm

I'm trying to find some motivation to clean the house/ take down Xmas decorations/ sort out an exercise routine/ do pretty much anything that doesn't involve eating crisps and enjoying the peace, as it's the first break I've had from the DC for days...

Hope everything is going well @Bjarnum, please come back soon and let us know that you had a fab time Flowers

poorpaws · 03/01/2022 09:13

The first weigh in of the New Year.

SW: 12sts 2.75 lbs all the way back in June
CW: 10sts 11 lbs
GW: 10sts by Easter

I think it’s time to set some mini goals along the way if anyone is interested in doing that.

So my weight isn’t too bad because I’ve had the worst Christmas ever! Been ill since Boxing Day with this super cold which wiped me out and yesterday I spent all day in bed being sick. Silver lining my weight gain is minimal for the whole festive season. The only problem is I still don’t feel well and I really have had enough of feeling ill. I haven’t been out or even got dressed for a week now and I want to feel better.

If anyone is still with me on this thread good luck with the first weighin of the year.

@Bjarnum
Do come and tell us how the wedding went, I didn’t stop thinking about you for the whole day. I hope it all went very well after the drama.

Hi everyone - hope you all had great time over Xmas and New year. @Bjarnum - OMG, hope it was all 'all wright on the night'. Flowers

Well I manged to put on 5lbs, Blush it could have been worse I suppose. Still have loads of high calorie food traps in the house, but am determined to get back on the wagon! Taking the decorations down today, so hopefully that will keep me occupied.

Bjarnum · 03/01/2022 16:24

Thank you all for your good wishes. Well, it could have been worse. We spent a whole day and a half decorating the hall with greenery , fairy lights, an arch and baskets of narcissus. Table decorations, a white fabric aisle carpet and illuminated jars set in wreaths. We had sparklers, the outdoors was lit with lanterns. The bride looked fab. I think she was just excited and there is a culture difference. But she was quite entitled - on getting home after us spending all day decorating the hall she simply held out her glass and told us to get her a drink! Either her mother or her mother's mate grabbed the best man's butt ...The cake looked ridiculous but they were pleased with it. I shall try to post some pics but I am not technical in any way. Two full blown meltdowns and DD3 was a royal pain. OMG it is such a relief to unload on you lovely ladies who are not connected to anyone else in any way! Will weigh when I can face it but starting the diet tomorrow!

poorpaws · 03/01/2022 19:45

Yay @Bjarnum I’m so glad it’s over for you and now I can relax too. It sounds magical to me, you must have worked so hard but now it’s done, life can get back to normal and you can think about dieting. I think about dieting constantly but haven’t done much actual dieting.

Not many (no) weigh-ins and I’m wondering if with so many 2022 dieting threads this on will soon be finished but I hope not. Either way I’m going to carry on at least until April to try to lose this last stone. (Bloody hell I must have been enormous as the start of all this cos I’m still large now and I’ve (hopefully) only got another stone to go).

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/01/2022 22:32

I'm so pleased it went well for you all @Bjarnum! It sounds like a wonderful day was had by all (including the cheeky mother of the bride or her mate!), but goodness, you must be pleased it's all over now Grin

Sorry to hear you're still poorly @poorpaws, that sounds awful Sad I have to say that one of the hardest things I've found about having DC is the lack of opportunities to simply go to bed when I'm ill! I'm sure not being able to rest prolongs the illness/ symptoms (I had a particularly horrific bout of flu when the DC were 2 that took me months to get over), so please do rest as much as you need to, order yourself some tasty nutritious food for when you're up to eating it.

No weigh in opportunity here as DP is still off work, aaarrrgghhh. He had a mega moan today about the amount of crisps and biscuits in the house when he is TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT, DON'T YOU KNOW - no use pointing out that they're not for him anyway, the DC take them in their lunchboxes, so I said ok what do you want to buy instead? What sort of diet do you want to follow? Cue another enormous moan about he CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT WHEN THERE ARE BISCUITS IN THE HOUSE... and repeat, several times. Essentially whatever I suggest (low carb/ low fat/ more fruit & veg etc) is wrong, so I gave up! He ate a massive pack of bacon cooked in plenty of fat for dinner, no veg etc, and I'm done suggesting things till he's ready to be constructive...

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/01/2022 10:02

Maybe have a hiding place for your crisps and buscuits. I do and sometimes forget about them!

Maybe make a couple of tubs of salad for easy access and a gentle reminder?

Bjarnum · 04/01/2022 18:53

@poorpaws Hope you are feeling better. I have been very good today (day 1) but it really is not a good idea to plunge myself into depression by weighing. However, I am going to check in each day so you know I am keeping the faith! To Easter it is. Clara I have no idea how you have managed not to strangle your DP. I think talktothehand had a great idea - hide all the "good stuff" - and serve him salads!

Purlsandhooks · 05/01/2022 08:15

Morning all, and happy new year!

Back on it for me as of today. I've not refused any anything I wanted over Christmas so feeling ready to get back on track now.

SW 11st5
CW 10st8 (3lb gain - I'm okay with that)
GW 10st

Feeling positive and capable! Hope everyone else is in a good place.

Bjarnum · 05/01/2022 10:04

Half of the wedding party are now testing positive for covid. We were all negative beforehand - but stupidly forgot to check the caterers had done lfts. DH and I were negative yesterday but he now has a temperature and I have a headache and sore throat so are both isolating. Bride's mum can't return to the USA but DS and DIL were fine and are now back home. paws Do you think you may have had covid when you were feeling so rough? purls I'm hanging in there and although not exactly in a good place I'm feeling back in charge of the eating. Anyone else up for a daiy check in for the next few weeks? Happy 2022 to all!

poorpaws · 05/01/2022 21:00

@Bjarnum no I’ve not got Covid but it is this super cold that’s doing the rounds. Apparently it lasts 3 weeks so I’m half way through. It’s now gone to my sinuses so I’m on Sudafed tablets. There’s long threads here in mumsnet about it and some people have had the super cold and Covid at different times and say the super cold is worse.

I still can’t diet or exercise with all this going on, in fact I can barely get dressed so I’ve just got to wait it out until I feel better.

I hope everyone is doing well and I hope to join you all very soon.

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 05/01/2022 22:34

Oh no @Bjarnum!! I do hope you and your DH are feeling ok? What a shame, at least it didn't spoil the actual event.

@TalkToTheHand123 that sounds like a good idea about the hiding places Grin DP's 'healthy diet' yesterday consisted of: a large bacon sandwich, a fry up, several coffees with sugar, a large steak fried in plenty of oil, several slices of bread with plenty of butter, and some crisps. I was working, the DC were at holiday club, he was in complete charge of what he ate...! Today he had to look after his own kids (I know, I know, what a hero!) so parked them at soft play for hours so he could drink more coffee and eat cake in peace. He was fast asleep, exhausted and snoring by 8pm Confused

Sending you best wishes again @poorpaws, that sounds awful Flowers I think we forget how truly horrible colds can be even when they're not Covid-related! I'm feeling similar, tired, run down, can't stop sneezing - LFT'ing negative though, thankfully. I just can't seem to get my act together and start losing weight/ exercising properly again - hopefully soon before I undo all last year's good work!

Bjarnum · 05/01/2022 22:42

paws Poor you. 3 weeks!! Hope you are getting lots of tlc. I expect when you finally get over it you will find your weight has plummeted even without the diet or exercise. I've made it through day 2. Hopefully by the time you rejoin the effort I will have made up for the mess that was my eating for most of December and the very beginning of January. Stay cosy and I'll be thinking of you

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/01/2022 23:07

Brrrrr!! Hope everyone is keeping warm (not with too many hot puddings!!) and that @poorpaws is feeling better Flowers

How are you getting on @Bjarnum?

DP is back at work next week. I cannot wait Grin the DC are back at school and I have him faffing around the house, doing non-urgent BUT VERY NOISY jobs right behind me when I'm trying to work, and not doing any of the stuff he could be doing to actually be helpful... aarrggghhhhh!!

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/01/2022 23:31

I've been on the lemsips daily for the last three months for colds. Helps me not to cough too much at work!

Bjarnum · 07/01/2022 04:58

clara I'm fine, thanks, but my GS (9mths) has been hospitalised with covid. Somehow my diet suddenly seems so trivial ...We are all under the weather - hopefully things will improve for all of us in the not too distant future.

gonelululemoncrazy · 07/01/2022 08:03

Oh @poorpaws that sounds awful, really hope you get better soon.Flowers. clara, you really are a saint Halo, your DP needs a kick up the backside if you ask me.
Personally really struggling to get back on the wagon, probably due to a mixture of the cold weather and comfort eating driven by work stress. Anyone else up to attempting a superhuman week next week?

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/01/2022 10:22

Oh @Bjarnum - you and your GS are in my thoughts - how scary, poor little boy. I hope he's home soon xx

gonelululemoncrazy · 07/01/2022 10:36

@Bjarnum - oh sorry, I missed the bit about your GS. Poor thing, it must be awful for you all. Hopefully he's out of hospital soon.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/01/2022 10:51

@gonelululemoncrazy - I'll see if I can find the energy for a superhuman week, just depends how I'm feeling! I don't know about being a saint though - currently counting down the minutes to some peace and quiet on Monday Grin

Bjarnum · 07/01/2022 12:27

GS back home safely! Apparently omicron is harder on babies than the usual strain. I'm up for superhuman effort - I'll begin Monday. Thank you all for your support.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/01/2022 13:36

Really pleased to hear that @Bjarnum. Lovely news!!

DP is currently wandering around making random comments about the weight he needs to lose and things which (apparently) need sorting in the house. Instead of making a start on anything, he's decided to have a go on the PlayStation and also look at which pizza he'd like to order Confused

poorpaws · 07/01/2022 14:30

Hi everyone
Im still really ill, it’s been 2 weeks now. I started this with no appetite as I felt so poorly but now I’m eating EVERYTHING. If I can possibly feel well enough by Monday I am up for a superhuman week, which I really need. If I feel like I do today then I daren’t join you until I’m better so we’ll see. I’ve had no exercise whatsoever in two weeks, I haven’t even got dressed so I’ll need to really build myself up again.

@Bjarnum so pleased you GS is out of hospital, it’s such a worrying time for you all.

I hope everyone is coping well with this cold wet weather. I cannot wait for spring.

I’ll post again when I feel better but I do read all your posts daily.
