Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

@Graphista

The spice peanut burgers with giant mushrooms as the "bread." Fry off some red onions to go with them. Roasted butternut squash.

Even though I have told dh he shouldn't he uses the hair dryer to help the defrosting along. He puts towels on the floor, it's in the garage, and takes all the drawers out. There are six shelves, five drawers. I empty everything out, rinse the drawers and wipe them. It doesn't take too long but it's not a job we like doing. We once had to do it twice in less 3 weeks as one of the kids didn't shut the door properly.

TheRealHousewife · 27/10/2021 21:46

Photo attached of my Mushroom Stroganoff. I made Cauli/broccoli rice with fine beans instead of leaving the veg whole as the recipe suggested. Riced veg goes better in my opinion.

Looks delicious @TheRealHousewife.

fallfallfall · 28/10/2021 05:15

Looking and sounding great!
Today was the last outdoor market for the year. Still 150+ jars of honey to sell between now and next July.
The IF going well, as usual not sure if the portion sizes are ideal.
I’m feeling more “myself” as I’ve not heard my appointment time etc.
I did 30 minutes of fitness walking on Tuesday and hauled myself for a 30 minute walk today.

swampytiggaa · 28/10/2021 07:45

I’m still here but off the wagon for now until I feel a bit better. Plan is to restart IF on Friday night and start running again at the weekend. I’m tailwalker at parkrun on Saturday and planning a longer run on Sunday morning because I have a 10 miler the following week which I haven’t trained for 😱 good job I’m not competitive 😂😂

TheRealHousewife · 28/10/2021 09:31

Good Morning All

It was rather tasty @SunshineCake1 😋

Pleased to read you’re feeling more settled in yourself @fallfallfall. We are all here for you 😊

@swampytiggaa hope you feel better soon! IF is a great aid as part of a healthy diet.

I received a link today with an article titled ‘When is a calorie not a calorie’? I’ve screen shotted it and I’ll try to share for those who might be interested. I’ll have to do it over a couple of posts.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean Omelette
Meal 2 - Kale, butter bean & Halloumi stir fry.

Thx for screenshots TheReal. I have the books, but good for a reminder! I do broadly follow Fast800 food principles, but I eat more, prob 1200-1400 cals a day.

SunshineCake1 · 28/10/2021 18:08

Today I walked the dog twice, emptied the dishwasher and loaded it. I even ran two metres while out. Emotionally rubbish dh oblivious but I'm starting to believe I will run again.

Youdoyoutoday · 28/10/2021 19:15

Hello ladies!!

I'm back from seeing family and I'm absolutely shattered so instead of doing all my mumsy stuff today like unpack and laundry, I took DP out for lunch as the kids weren't with us and we came home and had a well deserved nap!!

I weighed myself this morning and I've put on 2lbs but to be fair, I'd put that on before I left so at least I've maintained my weight whilst away.

But I do feel shattered, in 2 minds about bootcamp in the morning. Think I will see how I sleep tonight then decide in the morning and go to the 9.30 one. Thinking of just starting fresh on Monday but I know that's my lazy side speaking and that I should get back in to the swing of things ASAP.

swampytiggaa · 29/10/2021 09:22

I’m 7lb up on my goal weight which I had hit. Definitely cracking back on from today. Might need to get out of bed tho 😂😂

buzzofthebumblebee · 29/10/2021 09:25

Did you make it out this morning You? It's pretty miserable out. Fresh start monday. I had a big night out with a friend last night, seeing DD at uni this weekend (so lunch and dinner out!) and back on it monday too.

2 walks is a major achievement Sunshine. I can't rely on my DH for any sort of emotional support really, hence I met up with a girlfriend last night, and had a great time. Missed seeing my friends the past year+.

SunshineCake1 · 29/10/2021 10:55

I did 25 minutes on the bike then walked the dog in the rain for an hour and half. Just having five minutes then I'll put some clothes away. Will need to keep busy today. Waiting on a message from a friend. Not sure what's worse if it is a no or having to wait ages to find out. Not really dh fault. But if I had a time machine seems I might not have married him. First time I have ever felt that Sad. Obviously weight is up but no point moaning. I've been eating all the chocolate when I should have eaten none when stuck in bed. I know no paragraphs. Hoping less obvious what I'm typing Halloween Hmm.

TheRealHousewife · 29/10/2021 12:14

Good Morning All or it might be afternoon now :)

Getting out of bed would help @swampytiggaa lol

@buzzofthebumblebee I've always got my nose in a book or research online. I find the Fast800 books are very easy to read and understand the science behind weight loss.

In regards to changing habits in general, James Clear has written numerous article and books on changing habits. He sends out a weekly free Newsletters with tips and info, so you don't need to buy his book if funds are low.

Well done @SunshineCake1. Every bit will help you get you back.

How did you get on @Youdoyoutoday? Did you manage to get out? Lesley Sansone does great YouTube vids with walking exercises designed for indoors if weather too bad to venture out.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean Omelette
Meal 2 - Kale, halloumi, red pepper, butter bean stir fry.

Have a great day All.

Youdoyoutoday · 29/10/2021 13:06

No!! Lazy me won so I stayed in bed til 6.45am then my DD had me up. I let my DP have a lay in so no bootcamp for me but come rain or shine, I shall be going on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and get in my 2 swim sessions next week!! Need to get my big girl pants on and get out there even if it's raining!

Just looked at my weigh in chart, on 1st October I was 14.4 and I'm still 14.4 and whilst I know its great that I've maintained that, November needs to have a greater loss for me so I'm writing out my shopping list and meal planning for next week with a stricter plan in place for me.

I've got lots of soups frozen so I'll use those up for the next week but I'd love to make up some lunch boxes to have ready to go, all pre-cooked and weighed, to make like a bit easier. I don't mind cooking from scratch each night but I don't want to do it twice a day.

I've been doing this for so long but even I get confused with what to do sometimes. I kinda plateaued before going away so spoke to my PT at bootcamp and he said its always the diet that causes this so he said to get back from holiday, give it a week and then we will look at my diet. I'm already calorie counting at 1200 a day so maybe I'm eating the wrong thing at the wrong time.

I'm pleased with the weight I've lost and I do want to lose more, but my god why can't it just be a bit bloody easier?

Oh well, onwards and downwards on the scales!

Have a great weekend ladies!
x

Graphista · 29/10/2021 15:02

I am well and truly off the wagon and gaining terribly. Feeling quite low emotionally too.

Thinking I'll have a "break" over this weekend without going totally nuts and then start again mon BUT. With the principles I posted on Nov thread and I think I'm gonna at least aim for 1400 cals a day and I have GOT to get some exercise in somehow however minimal.

Also starting new meds next week and common side effects apparently include nausea and appetite suppression which may actually help!

Weird I know to be glad of certain side effects.

Don't wanna actually be sick! But thinking focusing on dealing with them may help me reset.

I dunno I need something to kick start me again for this next push

Struggling Sad

TheRealHousewife · 29/10/2021 16:01

Sorry to hear you’re feeling low @Graphista. Be kind to yourself and take some time to settle yourself again. We all know how hard the struggle can be at times. Sending loving kindness ❤️ Flowers

@Youdoyoutoday staying the same as become my norm in recent months. I’d take that as a win 🥇😬. November will bring a whole new month to get your teeth into, which might motivate you.

Oh @Graphista hope you feel better soon 💕

Youdoyoutoday · 30/10/2021 08:07

Thanks @TheRealHousewife

@Graphista I think a break will do you good. Its so time consuming all this so a break will be good and I hope you feel better soon Flowers

TheRealHousewife · 30/10/2021 08:49

Good Morning All

Nearing the month end, 2 days to go and as usual I'm being extra vigilant to extra cals creeping in. So easy to do. Last night for example OH wanted a Chinese takeaway for a change. I came so close to ordering but I knew I would regret it and wished I'd not had it. In the end OH decided he wouldn't either. we had what I planned and really enjoyed it :)

Menu
Meal 1 - Stir fry.
Meal 2 - Parmesan Coated Chicken, peas, carrots, broccoli.

Enjoy your day!

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 30/10/2021 15:37

Handhold @Graphista, be gentle with yourself.
Monday is a new day and month, a great opportunity for baby steps with food choices or exercise.
My mind is racing I’m not in a calm state. I’m allowing poor exercise and food choices into my daily routine. Nothing too drastic but I’m being weak. No biopsy appointment news yet.

SunshineCake1 · 30/10/2021 18:05

You aren't being weak @fallfallfall. You are giving a familiar comfort to yourself when needed.

I've decided I'm going to start C25k on Monday. It feels like a good way to start off gentle and controlled as I feel I could do something. I walked the dog twice, I've done some chores, and while I do feel tired and have had some pain, I think it is worth trying. And I will stop if needs be.

Back on it with the fasting. Leaving food when had enough or not enjoyed instead of feeling I have to eat it or just mindlessly eating it.

We had a Chinese last night. Didn't really want to but dh really did and since he's been doing everything for 2.5 months I said okay but that will be the last one for ages. I didn't eat it all and I enjoyed it which is the point I suppose.

buzzofthebumblebee · 31/10/2021 10:34

Oooh, Graphista, take care. A break off this weekend is a very good thing, and start afresh tomorrow / Monday. But go easy on yourself. Sounds like we have all hit a bit of a wall, me too. It's only 10.30 and I've already been in tears !!
Self-care & self-compassion so very important. Flowers for everyone, a huge thanks again to The Real Housewife for thread, and see you over on Novembers !!
