Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

That still counts as progress @SunshineCake1. You'll get there!

@fallfallfall what kind neighbours you have. Like you say if you already have plenty passing on to Church is a great idea.

@Graphista Hope you're ok.

Hello - I'm back from holiday. Will catch up properly later. But pleased to report I only put on 1/2 lb! WI 12 st 6lbs this morning.
In non-weight terms it meant I didn't hoover up the breakfast, lunch AND dinner buffet, I went easy(ish) on alcohol, nothing sweet, no puddings, and I exercised as much as I could (swimming, walking, bike rides).

And I still had a nice time ; ) And I feel good, not cross with myself, no regrets, no self-chastising. My body is still large, but less bloat.
Stress / anxiety still very high despite holiday. Something I really need to address. But at least I'm not eating my bad feelings any more.

Sunshine - I detect a hint of getting better / normality - at long last. You've had such a bad time of it. Don't go mad too much too soon and set yourself back again.
Fall - stressful time for you. But yes, lovely neighbours - but bet they are just returning favours back!
You - keep up bootcamp. Must be so hard to set the alarm so early in the dark
Graphista - hope you are OK!
TheReal - roast chicken dinner sounds delicious!

TheRealHousewife · 24/10/2021 09:29

Welcome back @buzzofthebumblebee that is defo a win! Sounds like you were sensible, whilst still enjoying yourself … Well done!

Been awol for a few days and that usually happens I must confess when I'm not sticking to my own plan properly

@SunshineCake1 glad you're doing better you will get there I think still don't worry too much about food as you've been and still are quite ill

@Youdoyoutoday that sounds lovely catching up with family you've not seen for a while, I have a similar plan for next year my 50th

@swampytiggaa marathon definitely gets you a pass this month we are all in awe!

@TheRealHousewife sorry you've now been hit by lurgy too! Hope you recover soon

Spin class done. Fanny hurts. Ouch.

I used to cycle commute a LOT - NEVER on a normal saddle alone always with a padded saddle cover attached, if you're gonna keep doing spin classes I think this might be a good idea for you too

We have lost "members" but we've gained a few too

@fallfallfall may I ask why you deferred the biopsy? Feel like I missed something somewhere...

@buzzofthebumblebee welcome back glad the holiday went well Only a 1/2lb gain is great! I went off plan for 2 days and I've gained 3lbs!

Though something odd is happening with my stomach (LOADS of wind and I'm not sure why - really uncomfortable!) I am thinking whoever it was who said to me waaay back may be right re gluten no longer being my friend Sad as all I can think is I have had a lot of wheat last couple days (cheese thins, toast, pasta, foccacia) and that may be why - if so how do I get stomach to calm down? I'm avoiding gluten today see if that helps and I may take an extra actimel too (you can have 2 a day)

swampytiggaa · 24/10/2021 18:16

Forgot to add my photo. I’m the one with no hair 😊

fallfallfall · 24/10/2021 18:36

Well @Graphista, I’m waffling. I don’t want to hear it’s cancer, but who does.
I’m hoping it’s scar tissue from the biopsy they did 12 months ago that was negative (and a very easy procedure). This one, mammogram guided, looks more “embarrassing” to me. It’s more about my pride vs logic and I plan to go ahead with it, I’ll call today.
Having deferred it didn’t bring me any peace. It’s just gnawing at my heart. So I might as well go with it.
I didn’t snack yesterday and stuck with two good meals.
Dh tried to pop some licorice candy in my mouth while driving and no joke as he approached me the licorice went flying…I figure my guardian angel was telling us something.
I’m hoping for another good day food wise.

SunshineCake1 · 24/10/2021 18:38

Super girl!!!!

I took doggy for an afternoon walk. Even though I had to leave sooner than I'd like due to tiredness, I did feel more like my old self in that I was feeling tearful and stressed, needed space, so I did what I would have done pre GF and walked the dog. Still have to drive to take her off lead as don't think I could manage fifteen minutes lead walking to get to the field but I don't go every day.

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee. I am taking lots of breaks when I need them and dh is doing lots.

@Graphista thank you. I'm all over the place re food but I had a smaller tea and have brushed my teeth in the hope I can do a decent IF.

SunshineCake1 · 24/10/2021 18:41

Sorry you are going through this stress @fallfallfall. I hope you get your biopsy done soon and all is well.

I've had a issue with one of my breasts but dh disagrees with what I think. I have taken a photo to get a very close friend to look. I asked first. They could have said no without issues. I haven't had one symptom today so maybe I'm over reacting.

swampytiggaa · 24/10/2021 18:54

Oh @fallfallfall I feel I have been rude and a bit flippant with my photo now. Sorry you are going through the mill and hope the biopsy turns out to be a precaution 💕🤞💕

@SunshineCake1 you are slowly starting to sound more like yourself which is good!

I’ve got this week off work. I’m going to sleep lots. And tbh I’m not going to weigh or worry at all. H goes back into work on Friday night (he’s off too very rare coordinating time off) so I’m going to restart IF then ready for a more focused November.

fallfallfall · 24/10/2021 20:15

@swampytiggaa Smile, all will be okay and I need to move forward on this. No offence taken.
@SunshineCake1, please have your health worries looked into, to your liking. Don’t let anyone put you off. Health professionals really don’t mind the little questions or big ones.

Graphista · 24/10/2021 23:13

@fallfallfall oh bless your heart!

Here's hoping it is nothing serious, first of all. But if it is something more serious then hopefully it's caught early and can be dealt with quickly.

Ooh I love liquorice yep guardian angel there

@SunshineCake1 defo small steps for you and I! I was out yesterday, grocery delivery today and so I'm knackered and very sore now. So tomorrow is going to HAVE to be a rest day or I'll be good for nothing!

I normally try and plan so I have a "day off" in between "busy days" but I was wrong footed by some things this week beyond my control.

Will hope to do better next week

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/10/2021 07:32

Happy monday all. Last push before the end of the month - only 7 days to go.

Getting harder as days so short and dark ... but think soup may be the way to go Sunshine.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 08:03

I've decided to stay in bed a bit but dh forgot to put the food caddy out so I did that, put a wash on, loaded the dishwasher and fed the late home cat. Back in bed now until a bit later. Feel achy in my tummy.

Wednesday is the current plan for starting on the bike.

Weight wise trying not to stress.

Have a good day everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 25/10/2021 10:00

Good Morning All

Feel achy, fluey, sneezy so just a quick post. Won’t be doing much at all today.

Menu
Meal 1 - Greek yoghurt, strawberries, sunflower seeds
Meal 2 - Red Pepper Quiche Cups

Take care everyone.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 10:01

Oh dear @TheRealHousewife. Have a day of rest and I hope you feel better soon.

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/10/2021 14:21

oh no ... more illness. Do take care @TheRealHousewife & hope your bug is short-lived.

That was quite a flurry of productivity @SunshineCake1 Are you able to read while you rest? I read a couple of books on holiday and forgot how enjoyable it was. That's if you don't fall asleep during, which is my usual trick!

Scales were back down this morning. Hoping it stays that way for WI on weds, and til the end of the month

Hope everyone else OK and not poorly too ...

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 15:47

@fallfallfall I took your advice and rang the doctors. Was added to his list and he called me. I thought he'd say no, all is fine but he immediately said he'd refer me. Two or three hours later I had another call to say I can go next week Shock. I'm not sure if I am more worried about being ill or wasting their time.

@buzzofthebumblebee. I did get back into bed for about an hour. Once I'd spoken to the surgery I had a shower and I'm not sure what I've done since. Bit of pottering, put a wash or two on but have been resting too. Have brought my book down but not read any yet. Been on here and watching tv. Well done on your loss. Dh has said he's hiding the scales!

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 17:32

I accidentally ran and I was fine!!!! Not much. This is huge for me. Tomorrow I am going to walk the dog then definitely try the bike Wednesday. So excited to run properly again soon !!!

fallfallfall · 25/10/2021 18:43

excellent news @SunshineCake1, magically has it been 6 weeks??
i'm focused on eating the 2 meals and nothing from 6pm to 10 am. dh is on board (but eating some snacks in-between, i've been able to avoid that).
i'm not seeing any changes on the scale.
i'll eventually get back into exercise but right now i'm still a bit zapped by the news/implication etc.
breakfast: one slice of buttered toast, one boiled egg, one slice of bacon, 1/4 of a baked potato, 1/2 orange and a couple grape tomatoes.
supper: beef goulash (3 oz) hubbard squash and swiss chard.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 18:50

It's been 6 weeks 6 days and I only ran about four metres but the other day I ran three steps and felt terrible. I was so excited I rang dh to tell him Grin.

I'm back in the game with the IF. I've just painted my nails to keep me occupied and have had enough to eat in the day which is half the problem, when I don't I then eat at 7-8pm. Still avoiding the scales though. Will try and wait until next Wednesday.

Lunch was salad, anchovies, toasted tea cake with cheese. Cake.
Dinner was roast chicken, salad, sweetcorn, mash.

Dh is cooking so it's less veg than I would cook hence the salad as it's there but I don't want to complain as he's doing loads.

I really hope your biopsy comes back okay @fallfallfall. I think I'm maybe a step behind you on the same road?

fallfallfall · 25/10/2021 19:05

@SunshineCake1 it takes the full 6 weeks. you needed to believe that :).
virtual handhold Sunshine.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 19:38

Oh yes. At six weeks, last Tuesday, no way I could have run. I think it was late last week I tried the three steps. Today I ran without thinking when trying to get something for dd. I didn't mean to. But when I realised I had and I was fine I was very shocked and happy. I'm still not planning on running properly for another two weeks.

I feel like you might be telling me off but I'm not sure Smile.

fallfallfall · 25/10/2021 21:46

@SunshineCake1, no telling off. just saying it's true what they say about mono; 6 weeks till recovery.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 22:22

I feel so much better but I know I am not fully there and I am being careful. I'm learning to stop and rest before I do do too much but sometimes I have been overdoing it but then I do sit and rest for longer. I'm looking forward to taking my dog out tomorrow and will take her a different way. I can turn back at any point if it gets too much but as long as we are slow I think I'll be okay. It's been nine weeks in total but I'm getting there. Just need to get this extra weight off now.

buzzofthebumblebee · 26/10/2021 10:25

Hope you enjoyed your dog walk Sunshine. It's lovely out.

Scales said another loss today. Only 2 meals yesterday & sunday, both just chicken/fish & salad/veg. Just had some breakfast (greek yogurt, blueberries & 3 desert spoons muesli) as I've done a 6k run, but plan to be v low / no carbs again for rest of the day.

Really hope you get thoroughly checked-out Fall & Sunshine.Flowers
