Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

@TheRealHousewife Feral police sounds interesting! Grin

@swampytiggaa hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe your body needs to carbs to heal?

I've lost 4lbs at weigh in! Now not to celebrate with chocolate Grin

SunshineCake1 · 18/10/2021 10:06

Hope you are feeling better very soon @swampytiggaa.

Well done @CumbrianExile.

I've put about nine pounds on since being confined to bed. Just been crying to DH as my mental health is really bad and it is a double edged sword. If I wasn't confined to bed I could deal with my bad mental health by running and walking my dog but of course I can't do that so that's one strike for crap MH and then the next is for the fact I feel crap, are constantly tired from doing the smallest thing, get a lot of discomfort and some pain and I'm scared for how long this is going to last.

swampytiggaa · 18/10/2021 11:25

Morning! Cold is receding thank goodness 😊 managed my full shift at work which is good 😊

Still hungry but more normal tbh. Asked a colleague who’s had it and she said she had THE HUNGER as well so I think it’s part of the illness.

I’m being nice to myself this week. Goals are to do 10k steps a day drink more and cut out the snacking. I’ve cancelled my running group tonight as I don’t want to overdo it.

@SunshineCake1 I’m so sorry you are still struggling 💕 if you ever want to chat pm me your number. If nothing else I can send photos of my idiot cats 💕

Elle200 · 18/10/2021 12:30

Just caught up on everyone's going's on, some of you have certainly been through the wringer :( I hope everyone is feeling much better very soon.

I've recovered from my surgery fine, but am now on estrogen blockers for the next ten years. I don't know if it's these or a coincidence, but I've binged twice since starting them, the second binge was last night and I ate till I was in pain and could hardly move. I'm so angry as I'd just managed to get below my first target weight after two years calorie counting.

Back on the straight and narrow today, no more blow outs till Christmas, so not too long to wait!

Next weigh day 1 November.

CumbrianExile · 18/10/2021 12:58

Aw @SunshineCake1 it is a horrible vicious circle you are in. I don't really have any good suggestions to help but try not to feel too down hearted. I hope you managed to get out to see your friend today and that helped a little.

@swampytiggaa glad your cold is better.

SunshineCake1 · 18/10/2021 13:57

Thank you @swampytiggaa. I will PM you my number. I can't talk as keep getting upset but can message. I have 😼too.

Don't be so hard on yourself @Elle200. You have had a really tough time, you have seen that things have made you binge and you didn't feel good so it is a win as it will mean you don't do it again. I have to re-lose the same stone again now but if I am kind to myself about my ridiculous chocolate intake this past two months then promise me you will be kind to yourself about the two binges. I can only dream of goal weight. You know you have and can achieve it. You are doing great !

Hoping to see my friend tomorrow @CumbrianExile. Thank you. Really hope I can manage a bit of shopping too as want to buy baby gifts.

Graphista · 18/10/2021 15:53

@buzzofthebumblebee hope you have a great holiday!

@swampytiggaa hope the cold will soon go!

@fallfallfall glad you've had a good time visiting over here

@SunshineCake1 you're really having a rough time! Kindly meant but honestly your mh has been bad for some time now and worsening, gf really doesn't help in that respect ime I really think you need to speak to gp about this and give serious consideration to medication at least for a while. You sound so low you need something and while exercise can and does help it only does so a little, this is not something you can take lightly. If your current gp is not v approachable on this speak to another in the practice or even change gp, I think you could do with some therapy too but not sure if you're up to that at the moment I think you may need to be doing a little better first. Thanks

@Yetanothernamechange123 if chocolate is your thing either ban it altogether or if you know you won't manage that low cal choc choices - muller light chocolate layers puds are only 69 cals each, options hot choc sachets 40 cals, tunnocks products if you can get them where you are tend to be low cal teacakes are 106 cals, of the regular bars things like Milky Way, curly wurly, Cadbury fudge, 2 finger Kit Kat, bueno if you can have one bar at a time isn't too bad

An old ww trick is curly wurlys in the fridge - makes em harder to chew so you take longer to eat them

8 cups of tea with skimmed milk IF you're only having 60mls of milk per cuppa (which I have now but ime most people have more and usually don't know how much they have - have you ever measured it?) is around 20 cals as you say that's still an extra 140 cals a day you're drinking. In all likelihood and if you have a higher cal milk than me it's prob more like 200-250 cals I reckon

I still can't get my head around meal planning. Plus I'm a "bloody minded cuss" so I'd be like arguing with myself essentially "but I don't want pasta tonight!" It's mainly the food waste aspect that bugs me! Especially as so many items come in packaging for at least 2 people it's basically impossible to shop for one and that often dictates what I'm having anyway! Cos a lot of it once opened has to be used within 1-3 days for food safety which means a lot of meals are repeated

Given your current weight 1200 cals seems very low!

I'm 5'2" and currently 12 stone 10.5lbs and the nhs calculator says 1408 as a MINIMUM for body to function well.

I'm going to try 1500 as on 1550 I'm starting to gain again, though admittedly went over a little on a couple of days.

But 1200 seems...punitive! If you're coping on that all power to you I couldn't!

Better to accept that it’s better to be a 🐢 than a 🐇 when it comes to losing and keeping off weight

Absolutely and I'm guessing from deletions was a spammer anyway?

@Yetanothernamechange123 hmm I looked at my fitness pal and wasn't impressed when I saw different results for the same food same amount were vastly different, upon further investigation it turns out any "member" of mfp can update their database and the info isn't checked. When I checked their results against verified information it was often way out.

@swampytiggaa have you soup in/Husband can make? Far more nutritious and lower cal and soothing than malt loaf (much as I like malt loaf myself) when I was ill I bought in fresh soups and they were just what I needed. I wasn't up to making soup and had no home made in freezer

Re tissues - Vaseline on the nose regularly! Or it gets sore!

@TheRealHousewife not got the new meds as yet only discussed last week. Psych has to write to gp, gp reviews and prescribes, prescription sent to pharmacy, filled and they text me it's ready, delivery arranged and delivered so it'll take a few weeks yet.

@Elle200 our illness stuff is nothing compared to yours! Binging - could you get in something relatively low cal you can eat in bulk?

fallfallfall · 18/10/2021 17:04

@Graphista :), just home as of not long ago (9 hours) the journey home is long, and if nothing else boring but when travelling, uneventful is good.
both dh and i looking forward to a mild form of intermittent fasting and trialing two meals a day vs three to make up for some very off meal plan choices.
he's got a few errands to run, i might be on my own for our new "brunch" (he starts the day with coffee, a date, and a piece of strong cheddar. which according to him is a perfectly balanced blend and doesn't count towards breaking a "fast"....fine i will not be partaking in the cheese or date bit).

SunshineCake1 · 18/10/2021 17:45

Thank you @Graphista. I don't want to go back on AD as I was in a fog last time and tbh there's no tablet that is going to fix what is causing me pain at the moment. I did have therapy and it worked really well then something happened and I've gone almost all the way back. I can't face having to say this has happened. I did talk to dh a little but no way can I tell him what is really wrong. I am hoping my friend won't need to cancel on me tomorrow and I can talk to her.

One thought @Graphista if the make a few weeks worth of meal planning cards and then just pick one doesn't work then it is a case of accepting that the not wanting that days meal all the time means things might not go as fast as you want. Or picking meals with long lasting freshness dates so you cam swap them around.

I know what I mean in my head but I am really not sure I have typed it out in a makes sense way. I've had a bit of a day so think I have lost brain cells.

Welcome home @fallfallfall. Sadly Mr fall that is too much of a breaks fast mealGrin.

fallfallfall · 18/10/2021 19:34

yes @SunshineCake1, mr fall has is own beliefs that are questionable at times....he's sent me a photo of a quick shop (camembert cheese, oranges, blueberries, apples, nut mix and whipping cream) which he most likely thinks will be acceptable additions to our "brunch". his vision is more like a five star hotel spread than a weight loss plan.
it's nearing noon, and i'm a hungry woman at this point thankfully unpacking and laundry is keeping me busy enough i'm not inhaling the apple sauce i made.
should any of you be travelling internationally please allow yourselves lots and lots of extra time!! no clue how visitors would know but victoria station was closed on sunday and we needed to drive over to the shard station. my prepaid ticket of course wouldn't work at the till but we needed to present it to an employee. nothing major just a little extra time consuming. thankfully our daughter's partner (not son in law yet) was awesome, we had given ourselves 3 hours from home to flight time so enough wiggle room.

Graphista · 18/10/2021 20:01

@SunshineCake1 not all ads affect people like that there's loads of different ones, I haven't liked or got on well with all the different ones I've been on either, sounds like therapy would really help right now too Thanks

Think I know what you mean meal plan wise, I can be fickle and even annoy myself!

SunshineCake1 · 18/10/2021 21:46

I have tried many different ADs as I have had PND three times. Maybe the ADs would help me cope with what is wrong as they certainly won't fix it. I just wish I could run Sad and walk the dog. Haven't been out with her properly for over eight weeks and just once for fifteen minutes a fortnight or so ago and even then I only walked to the field then sat and watched her run around.

swampytiggaa · 19/10/2021 18:20

Hello! Cold is receding finally 😊 just been to the dentist had a clean bill of dental health. Smallest needs a baby tooth pulling… appointments in January 😱 however there is a cancellation tomorrow afternoon so that’s what she’s doing 😊

swampytiggaa · 19/10/2021 18:21

Ooops pressed post too soon! Food is going back to normal levels which is good 😊 steps are going back up but no running just yet.

SunshineCake1 · 19/10/2021 19:04

Glad you are feeling better @swampytiggaa. I forgot to say yesterday I don't live where I was born. I'm nearer to you than that but sadly not near enough for a run and then came Sad.

I went out today. We were early so dh stayed with me while I went in two shops and managed to get one lovely gift for my friends new baby nephew. Then my friend came and we tried a new restaurant but wasn't impressed. But more shopping but I found it all a bit much with so many people as I've not been to a shopping centre for over two months. Did get sniffer nice gift for the baby which my friend found so pleased about that. Also pleased that I am not in as much pain, discomfort or as tired as I expected to be. Trying hard to convince myself I won't be walking the dog tomorrow even though I am desperate to. I'm in bed but that's nice space from h than being tired tbh.

My neighbours moved out today which I was a bit sad about. Went it say bye, nice chat, bonus saw their baby grandson who was the cutest and I had a few tears. Saw the new people moving in and they have a tiny scrumptious baby so all good. Apparently they have a dog too so very happy.

Hope everyone is doing well.

swampytiggaa · 19/10/2021 19:13

You sound brighter @SunshineCake1 change of scenery has done you good 💕

If anyone comes to north Devon for a break give me a shout! Always up for meeting new people 😊 I don’t bite (often)

SunshineCake1 · 19/10/2021 20:31

And then cake!!

Fake it to you make it...

Currently ignoring dh who has been mean. Though he's not saying much to me either.

Youdoyoutoday · 20/10/2021 08:35

Morning all!

Scales at 14.2 this morning, seem to be at a plateau this week but I guess it's maintaining so can't really complain.

Missed bootcamp this morning as it was pouring down and I don't want to get sick as I'm off to see elderly relatives this weekend for a few days so I'll do the online class later.

@SunshineCake1 glad you finally got out and about!

X

SunshineCake1 · 20/10/2021 12:30

Maintaining is still a win @Youdoyoutoday on this thread Smile.

I walked the dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took it very slowly, stayed out just over an hour and would have liked to have stayed much longer as it is her first time there in a couple of months but I had to be sensible.

Before I was diagnosed ill I weighed 11 stone 2.4 then the next day I was admitted to hospital. Today I weighed 11 stone 10.8 so not great but not too horrific. It's from no running, no walking the dog, eating much more sweets and chocolate than usual and not managing to do IF properly all the time. So goal weight is initially 10 stone 7 then we will see. My lowest was June 9th and I was 10 stone 8.6.

Elle200 · 20/10/2021 15:33

You do sound much brighter @SunshineCake1, walking the dog will have been so good for you, don't envy the shopping trip though!

Thank you to everyone for their supportive messages after my recent moan, am back on track now and can't wait till the first of November so I can see what damage my binge has done.

I keep reading threads on here, the diet board, about people my height who are about three stones lighter than me, so even my revised new target will only be a stepping stone to a normal healthy weight I think.

SunshineCake1 · 20/10/2021 17:06

Try not to compare @Elle200. I'm no scientist but I'm not sure it is a case of everyone with the same height should weigh the same. I know it is hard. I've found it difficult when people are 9.5-10 stone wanting to lose 1-1.5 stone and I'm thinking my end weight is your start!! But then I remind myself they may be shorter than me and it isn't a competition.
