Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

Please may I join?
I'm 34 and 10st 6lb and like to loose a stone to get to pre (2nd) baby weight.
I keep starting and only lasting a week and I can't figure out why I can't keep at it, I crave takeaways and treats.
I eat my feelings!
I do at least 3/4 peloton classes a week be it cycling or strength.
Looking forward to getting this weight off!

TheRealHousewife · 30/09/2021 20:36

A warm welcome @Curlypop. sounds like you need to balance your blood sugars to keep food cravings at bay. Try to reduce sugars, alcohol, simple carbs (white rice, white bread, pasta) and increase protein, healthy fats, whole foods etc. Such as quinoa, brown rice, whole grain products. And stay hydrated :) I'm impressed you have time for 4 sessions a week, that's really impressive.

SunshineCake1 · 30/09/2021 20:48

Welcome @Curlypop. You can have treats. Just treat them as just food. Don't give them more power than they need.

I'm not sure about weighing again. I can't run until October 19th but I can do a lot of damage in three weeks. I'll see how I go when I eventually make it out of bed and downstairs. I folded up a small amount of laundry tonight and put it in the airing cupboard and just doing that made me breathless.

fallfallfall · 30/09/2021 22:42

Happy October everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 30/09/2021 22:51

Happy October @fallfallfall Earlier today a recipe came up in my Insta feed that used Flax Eggs. Never heard of them before then hear about them twice in a week 😬 Try not to spoil your holiday worrying about potential gain. Enjoy yourself and reset once you’re back. 😊

Good morning fellow losers, I hope everyone is well/recovering :)

It's a rainy start to October up here in N.E Scotland but I'm not going to notice that as today I weighed in at under my first target weight. Now I need a sensible new target, I'm thinking 67kg, which will mean I'll have lost half my original weight. Hopefully I can do this by Christmas by sticking with my calorie counting.

I only weigh on the first of every month not every week, I found for me weekly weigh-ins were too disheartening. Good luck to everyone in the coming weeks!

SW: 134kg
1st TW: 75kg
CW: 73.4kg
New TW: 67kg

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2021 08:13

Happy October & Good Morning Everyone

@Elle200 Fabulous! Looking at your stats overall you’ve lost an incredible amount! That’s awesome 👏 All the health benefits from that will be huge. 👍👏🥇. If it’s any consolation it’s raining here too ☔️

Overall for September I’ve lost 3.2lbs. I’m thrilled as I’m a very slow loser. I’d love to match that in October but will be happy with a firm 2lbs.

Menu
Meal 1 - Red Pepper Omelette
Meal 2 - Chicken in cream & white wine sauce. Carrots. Peas. Cauli Rice.

Enjoy your day!

Hi all,

I'm 40, 5'5" and 13st 13lb. Apart from pregnancy, my weight has never deviated by more than a few lbs from this for my entire adult life. I'm determined to do something about it so I've set myself an initial target of losing 8lbs in October.

Things I do well already:
*Excercise (walk lots, 3-4 gym classes per week, the odd run, swim or bike ride)
*Lunch & dinner - mostly home cooked and balanced, with just the odd takeaway/beige meal

Things I do badly:
*Portion sizes
*Breakfast (in a rush so nearly always toast)
*Alcohol (only a couple of nights a week but 1 always turns into several)
*Late night snacking
*Water - not nearly enough

Today won't be the best start as Fridays are really rushed and I've already promised my DC an Indian takeaway, but this is the plan.

B - Porridge made with almond milk
L - home made green soup with a small roll
D - Indian takeaway but I will just have a non-creamy veggie curry with rice (no bread)

8 glasses of water!
No more than 2 coffees
No alcohol

No time for a class today but I will aim to walk to and from school/kids activities later if it's stopped pouring down.

Here goes!

SunshineCake1 · 01/10/2021 09:13

I decided I would weigh and it was worse than expected. I haven't done the fasting well at all as I have been trying to build strength and have just felt hungry at the wrong times. Of course I haven't been running in six weeks either. I have showered and are watching tv for half an hour as I'm worn out. Will go downstairs once I feel a bit better.

Welcome @HappyBus and good luck.

SunshineCake1 · 01/10/2021 09:13

Well done on the brilliant loss @TheRealHousewife!

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2021 09:29

A warm welcome @HappyBus you seem to have a good angle on what you need to do. You’ve identified your good points as well as areas you need to work on. That’s a great place to start! In regards to curbing snacking and late night eating. Can you tell yourself after your normal last meal of the day the kitchen is closed? I do intermittent fasting 17/7. So I generally I fast 17 hours and eat within a 7 hour window 12:00 - 19:00. I’d also up the protein as it satiates and can help keep you feeling full (along with good fats and staying hydrated). You are going to do brilliantly 👍

@SunshineCake1 Thank you. You’ve been very poorly and you are still recovering and building back up your stamina. Your body needs nutritious food to do that ❤️‍🩹. Please try not to worry which is easier said than done I know. We are all here for you. Look after yourself lovie.

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2021 09:33

I meant to add @HappyBus IF can be any connotation. So for example if you enjoy breakfast you have a larger eating window 07:00 - 19:00 or whatever works for you. The main thing is getting into the habit of stopping evening snacking if that’s what you wish to change < not telling you what to do 😬

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife ☺️ Looking forward to seeing more of your lovely recipe suggestions this month!

Welcome @HappyBus, @Elle200 and @Curlypop! I’m looking forward to the support on here for October, I found it so helpful last month. Such an impressive loss already @Elle200, you must be so proud of yourself!

I’m starting the month at 82.7kg up 0.3kg from yesterday somehow 🤷‍♀️ Aim is to lose 4kg this month which is double last months loss but I have much less socialising planned this month so should be possible! My aim to get down to 70kg for January will be totally unrealistic if I don’t really knuckle down this month so going to try and be very good!

SW (August 2021) 87.7kg
CW 82.7kg
GW (Jan 22) 70kg
GW 31st October 78.7kg

Crazzzycat · 01/10/2021 09:57

Morning all! I’m starting the month on 79.0, which is a gain of just over a pound since the start of September. Not sure what my goal for October is, but I’m thinking of going back to intermittent fasting, at least for a little while as I found it so much easier to be disciplined when I was skipping breakfast.

I also want to focus on basic self care a bit more. I’m finding myself slipping back into some bad habits, so that needs to be nipped in the bud before it gets worse. Getting enough sleep is at the top of my list. I’m not sure why my subconscious finds it so entertaining to stay up past 2 am, because it really isn’t 😣

Well done on your losses @TheRealHousewife and @Elle200. You have lost an incredible amount Elle 😯

@SunshineCake1, I’m sure the scales will be all over the place for you at the moment. Being ill can do funny things to your metabolism, but there’s a good chance it will come off by itself once you feel a bit better. In the meantime, keep giving your body the energy it craves.

Welcome @HappyBus and @Curlypop! I hope you’ll find this thread as motivating and supportive as I’ve found it in the past 🤗

Youdoyoutoday · 01/10/2021 10:09

Dying today! Went out yesterday and drank way too much!

4lbs down this morning though so silver lining!!

Seriously considering giving up booze altogether as when I start I don't have an off switch then I end up feeling like this 🤢

joysmoy66 · 01/10/2021 11:03

Checking in for October thread Smilewelcome newcomers and hi 👋 to everyone Smilestarting month on 9st 12lb. Would ultimately like to lose 2lbs but content to maintain.

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2021 12:28

@LosetoHike you’re very welcome and I’m pleased you’ve joined October’s thread😊. Planning is everything when we want to give ourselves the best chance of success! Having said that I would the speed in which you get to your goal is not as important as the consistency of your endeavours. That’s not to say no treats ever, it just means planning for damage limitation 😬. Life’s for living and enjoying food is a big part of that. Happy to post more recipes and photos to inspire you 👍

Hi @Crazzzycat we all have months when we’ve gained or stayed the same despite our best efforts. Don’t stress, new slate. Identifying your saboteurs helps a lot. As you’ve already identified sleep/quality of plays a big part. It’s proven poor sleep or lack of sleep affects hormones to such a degree it increases appetite (ghrelin/leptin/insulin) so you’d massively help things by trying to get more shut eye 👍

Passes paracetamol and tumbler of water to @Youdoyoutoday . Hope you soon feel better!

Hi @joysmoy66 I love that you still check in with us. It’s inspiring! We all want to be you and be at goal! 😬

I’ve had my blood test review today about my thyroid and they are saying the bits they did test are ok. However there’s another hormone/level or something they didn’t check (para thyroid or something. I’m ashamed to admit I don’t know all there is to know about thyroid and their functions).

Posted a copy of tips out of Fast800 Recipe Book. Also recipe for Spicy Bean Chilli. I substituted Parmesan for the cheddar but use whatever you want really.

Hello! Weight is up from the start of September but I’ve had a couple of spells of illness this month and my food has suffered a bit. Plus I’m walking a marathon on Sunday so I’m carb loading 😭😭

Good luck everyone!
