Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm calorie counting for now, following a loose slimming world plan (the increase of fruit/veg on my plate I think is the key). It's worked before for me, but then lockdown and homeschooling/homeworking/moving just as lockdown 1 happened stresses knocked me for 6 and I haven't got back on track since.

Feeling pretty determined now though. And looking forward to some new ideas on here 😀

Crazzzycat · 03/10/2021 09:51

Welcome to the thread @CumbrianExile

After a successful first day, yesterday turned into a bit of a write off, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a better day today. It’s a new day and all that…🤞

Stuffragette · 03/10/2021 11:42

Can I join? I'm 5 ft 4 and weigh 11 stone 4lb. I used to be a size 8 but was put on lots of anti psychotic meds and gained 5 stone. Have managed to lose 2 stone size months ago but have a stone to go. I'm still on some meds so it makes it very hard to lose weight. And I ate a cinnamon bun this morning which is apparently 490 calories so won't eat more of them!

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2021 13:32

Good Afternoon All

That’s the spirit @CumbrianExile. You know what works for you 👍. Do you have any recipe books?

A warm welcome @Stuffragette 👍. Do you have a plan? Calories are only part of the complex mechanism of losing weight. It’s a good place to start though.

@buzzofthebumblebee I love seeing a well executed Tango. I’ve seen the professionals on the streets of Barcelona, they were very very good (holding onto pockets & bags as they could be a distraction from the pick pockets in operation)

OMAD - Chicken curry. Sugar free jelly & cream.

I'm watching the programme with Cece and Andriana

Trying not to cry as I want to walk the dog.

SunshineCake1 · 03/10/2021 14:38

Don't diet, lose weight

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2021 15:38

Hi @SunshineCake1 I’ve not seen the programme but I believe in ideology of ‘Don’t diet, Lose weight’. The core principles of this thread advocate for our eating and lifestyle to be a way of life. Nothing drastic that would cause weight loss only to put it all back on and some when you stop the drastic measures … if that makes sense. Tired and in pain so struggling to think straight today.

Do you have access to a wheel chair? Your dh could take you out, along with your dog. Fresh air would really benefit you ❤️

I enjoyed the programme @TheRealHousewife because of the ladies featured. Didn't pay much attention tbh. We all know a lot of eating is physiologically related.

My aim tomorrow is to go in the garden. Hopefully I can prune some roses. I'm scared to d much in case I set myself back, especially with the liver and spleen pain, but I feel like I am going mad staying in. I can't deal with my wanting space as I can't run or walk the dog alone so..

SunshineCake1 · 03/10/2021 16:19

Huge well done @swampytiggaa ⭐️🥇

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2021 16:29

Congratulations 🥳 @swampytiggaa you’re fabulously fit. Well done 👍👏🌟🥇. You deserve a nice hot bubble bath and a G&T …. When I just told OH you’ve done a marathon he replied ‘I bet she’s done a bounty this afternoon and saving the Mars bar for tonight. He was joking off course 😬🤣

@TheRealHousewife thank you. When I started I really wasn't feeling I could achieve my end target. Now it most definitely feels possible.

Not exactly feeling the positive impacts on my health yet! Looking a bit better when dressed but the weight loss has led to a fair bit of loose skin on my belly! My c section apron is now very pronounced! Not sure there's anything I can do about that!

But I know logically that losing weight will help improve my general health.

Must do another bp read and see how that's going and an inch measurement too as not done that since end of august.

@Curlypop the carrot sticks really help me avoid the crisps!

@SunshineCake1 I can relate to going downstairs as a goal! Yesterday and today I've achieved similar small goals after 3 weeks of not being able to do sod all! Eg finally picked up my Mail and sorted it - my balance was really off and I didn't trust I could bend over to get it without falling over until yesterday! For the first time in 3 weeks I have hair in a proper updo rather than just scraped back in a rough (very rough!) ponytail, I've make up on and I'm feeling close to my usual self. Awaiting Tesco delivery!

@Youdoyoutoday I've been tempted to try the frozen cauliflower rice is it ok and easy to use? I tend to have stir fried mostly with rice is it ok and easy to use for that? And how does it taste? I like cauli ok but not overly keen on plain boiled a la my mum which is quite boring and bland

@fallfallfall don't beat yourself up we all have slip ups and have emotional triggers. What bizarre behaviour by your "friend"!

@CumbrianExile welcome your mini goals are absolutely achievable. I've a lot to lose too (approx 5 stone based on start weight) but as a lovely friend I chat to on here says, you can't eat an elephant in one meal! So break it down to smaller more easily and more quickly achievable goals to keep you going. That's what I've done I've a wee memo in my notes app with my mini goals listed.

My 1st was to lose 5% of start weight which the nhs advises and apparently is the point at which you notice health improvements. Or your body does!

Next was to get under 13 stone which I've recently managed after a bit of a plateau (plateaus are normal and actually a sign you're doing it right apparently according to an article linked on previous thread) my next target is to be under 12.5 stone by the end of this month.

I also have the "happy scale" app which lets you chart your progress and produces a wee graph for you to visualise it. You can set mini goals on that too I have mine set at each half stone.

See pic attached

I did ww years ago and lost successfully with them and mostly kept it off, but still had much to lose. I stopped going ww due to other health issues. But when I started this time around I applied what I could remember of what I learned with them too. Friends I used to attend with I discussed with them too and they reminded me of some stuff I'd forgotten. I've been debating joining online so I can get some ideas and tips even if just for a months and read the forums/site and get as much info as possible, but then I feel I'm doing pretty well without and with the support and advice on this thread, so might just be a waste of money/time.

@buzzofthebumblebee again don't beat yourself up. Sounds like a tough week! What do you think is bad about sausages and ratatouile? Ratatouille is a pretty low cal and healthy dish, sausages aren't horrific either. I don't believe in "bad" foods and "good" foods I believe in a healthy or unhealthy overall diet. Some foods are higher calorie than others and to lose weight we obviously need to consider that but also some higher cal foods are very good for us nutritionally speaking it's a balance isn't it?

@Stuffragette welcome. I'm also on meds that make me gain weight (steroids and anti depressants) so I sympathise! And it's often dismissed when you raise such concerns with hcps isn't it cos they're like "but these meds are keeping you alive!" Yes I know that but I also don't wanna stay fat!

I've not watched strictly for years as I got a bit fed up of it but it seems to have had a boost last few years so I may try it this year. I mainly binge watch via streaming v much out of the habit of watching "normal" tv and as a result have missed some great shows first time around so I'm trying to be more mixed in my approach to what I watch and how.

Tesco delivery has now been (started writing this while waiting) and I'll admit I've treated myself to a pizza as been craving one all week! But then starting tomorrow back to cal counting properly now I've lots of lovely fresh tasty food in that I CAN taste properly now and it doesn't all taste like a block of sodding salt!!

To the newbies another site I've found that is helping motivate me is this one

modelmydiet.com/women.html?cb=197360262149

Where you can create a virtual image of yourself with weight and height stats and body type accounted for. I've found it fairly accurate so far.

Attached pic is virtual me start weight on left goal weight on right (though I think it's obvious!)

You can also change things like hair colour and style, and there's a few "outfits" to choose from (I've chosen a yoga one as it's most revealing body shape wise) and a few backgrounds to choose from (I'm a beach lass so I've chosen that background)

You can also rotate the image to see what "you" look like side on and from the back. I can fool myself I look ok front on but sideways the belly is out! The joys of being an apple shape! Also have skinny arms and legs which also let me kid myself!

This kinda smacks you in the face so you see what you really look like!

Urgh having probs attaching pic so gonna post and try again

I did the comparison thing and there wasn't a huge difference which confused me as I've lost three stones.

Sonmi451 · 03/10/2021 17:55

Hello everyone, mind if I join?

I'm 43 and, although I haven't weighed myself in the last week or so, I'm around 10st 6lb. I'd like to lose a stone.

I'm ditching the alcohol after tonight (because there's some wine left in the fridge), and going to try and reduce my caramel latte habit. I've also planned the meals for this week, so I don't end up at the last minute, then realise there's nothing in, or it'll take too long or I can't be arsed and end up getting take out.

I've been thinking of trying to reduce my meat consumption too, so I'm looking for healthy veggie lunch options. DH will call the police if I try and serve a veggie dinner. In fairness he does cook a fair bit, but he cooks gigantic portions and doesn't "do" seasoning, so I'm looking to reclaim some of it.

Well done everyone on losses to date!

fallfallfall · 03/10/2021 18:54

@Graphista, i know i need to look at the long game regarding weight loss and the emotional triggers.
so today is my last day here at home, the next 14 will be in montreal then london...do i pack my rubber boots or not?? realistically i have no room in my suitcase...or at least not easily slipped in.
leaving home at 147.3.
my dd and her partner both admit to a bit of a depressive atmosphere over there...my mind is just buzzing with visions of a nightmare visit.

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2021 19:19

Evening All

@Graphista I can tell you’ve turned a corner with your health. Well done on doing your hair & make up. It makes such a difference to how we feel about ourselves when we invest in self care. I hope your shopping arrived all in order. OAN I absolutely love reading your longer posts again ❤️

@fallfallfall wishing you a safe and enjoyable holiday! Looking at the long term weather we are going to have some rain 🌧 but not everyday. Weather isn’t always as forecast. Is any of your footwear waterproof? If you don’t have comfortable room to pack your wellies I’d just buy a cheap pair where ever you are if required.

A warm welcome @Sonmi451. Over the last couple of years my meat consumption has reduction. OH is reluctant to eat meat free meals, especially the last meal of the day. One dish he really enjoined was a Bean Chilli. Very tasty and he said he didn’t miss the meat! What’s your day-to-day plan?

Posted the prediction photo. I entered my heaviest weight and goal weight. My silhouette is different to the predictions… I have a smaller bumbum and way bigger boobies 😬

thanks @TheRealHousewife, canadian fall is similar. besides wearing one sleeveless vest, i've packed a jacket and a coat, gloves and two different buffs incase it gets cold (damp). i've squeezed the boots in. i'm sure the last time they were worn was in at our last visit.

Youdoyoutoday · 03/10/2021 20:11

@Graphista frozen cauli rice is OK as long as you add some flavour to it. If I have it on its own its naff but in a stir-fry or mixed with stew or something like that, it's fine. I used it for prawn nasi goreng and I defrosted it before using and in this dish it was great.

Hi everyone,

I was here back in spring. I lost about a stone since May. Pretty happy although it is quite slow...
Hoping to lose another stone before cmas or maybe in the next 6 months or so.
Im trying to have more veg and change the way i cook but im finding it super hard... im too much of a meat, carb and one mini portion of veg type...
Three weeks ago i started a weekly 30 mins a week personnal training session. I also try to walk every friday because thats my day off.

CW: 85.6kg
TW1: 80 kg. (By xmas?)
TW2: 75 kg.
TW3: 70kg

Graphista · 04/10/2021 03:09

@SunshineCake1 that is weird - are you tall? A different body shape perhaps makes a difference?

I find it helpful

@Sonmi451 welcome you've a lot less to lose than me so I suspect you already have a much healthier lifestyle! Where I can perhaps help is I'm veggie and have been for 30+ years

What kinda lunch options? Cooked? Packed lunches?

Depressive atmosphere in Uk? I don't think any more so than many other places all countries have their issues. The weather can be a bummer when you say rubber boots do you mean what we call wellies? If so I would say don't pack, buy some cheap ones while here if you feel the need somewhere like primark and then charity shop then before you go or give to a homeless charity they'll be glad of them this time of year. My local homeless charities are now asking for boots and coats etc, I've normally knitted at least one or 2 scarves for them by now but I'm behind this year. Normal boots/waterproof trainers/shoes will normally suffice as it doesn't get so wet in London, if you were heading to me you'd need waders! But I'm west coast of Scotland where it rains constantly

Ok WHAT is a buff?! Never heard of that

@TheRealHousewife thank you so much for your lovely comments. At least one poster HATES my posting style and seems to seek me out just to tell me this! Name changes though. Most of shopping arrived ok, thoroughly enjoyed the pizza and been busy the rest of the day on a project for dd. Like you the main way the photo prediction site is slightly inaccurate for me is a have a flat arse! Always have had no matter what weight

@Youdoyoutoday thanks for responding re cauliflower rice, I tend to flavour rice with a sauce in whatever dish I'm having it in so that could work for me
