Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Bed for a week. No running for six. Feel a bit like I'm going to lose and miss out on so much. I already feel like I have lost three weeks of my life. Dd goes to uni next week so dh will take her, though he probably would have done anyway but no last minute shopping now with her.

SunshineCake · 11/09/2021 21:05

Thank you @fallfallfall

Youdoyoutoday · 11/09/2021 21:11

Great news @SunshineCake

Cuppa and a good night's sleep in your own bed will do you the world of good.

Graphista · 11/09/2021 23:15

Urgh! Feel like I'm losing my weight loss mojo at the moment. I swear it's the nights drawing in that does it! Help!

Gave in to cravings last night. Determined NOT to do that tonight so having an early night for me.

Anyone else experienced this? Any tips? Really struggling to stay motivated

Well done to all with losses, sts, small gains despite not staying on plan and nsv as far as I'm concerned you're all heroes!

I think also I may be trying too hard as I tried to drop down to my min cals of 1423 cals and I think that was just a step too far.

@youdoyoutoday wish I could go swimming! Glad you enjoyed!

@swampytiggaa happy birthday for yesterday! 🎉 hope you had a great time

@SunshineCake great! You're home and seemingly on the mend. Take it easy don't rush things you will get there

Yesterday :

Meal 1 - toast and jam, Earl grey tea with sweetener

Meal 2 - peppers and small portion tzatziki dip, salad with low fat balsamic dressing, fridge raiders, 1/2 banana (wasn't really feeling it) choc pot

Meal 3 - pasta, pesto, broccoli and Quorn rashers, my low cal "eton mess"

At this point I had 20 odd cals "left" but I made the mistake of staying up late cross stitching and got hungry and gave in to a pack of Holland and Barrett Japanese crackers and 2 tunnocks biscuits
BlushBlushBlush

Just had a "sod it" moment and unfortunately had those things in and went digging for them!

Today

Meal 1 - wholemeal sandwiches with veggie pastrami and cucumber, peppers and tzatziki dip, banana, fat free yogurt

Meal 2 - jacket potato with my own tinned chilli mix (1/2 tin chilli, 1/2 tin corn, small tin tomatoes) all mixed up together and heated (it's my lazy go to meal), a little grated cheese, fat free yogurt and cereal bar

I think it's also I'm trying to eat a lot earlier than I normally would to try and eat at more normal times and then later at the times when I have been eating my stomach clock seems to kick in!

So yea definitely need help weight losers

Ignore that message @graphista. It posted while I was editing it, so doubt it makes sense now!

What I was trying to say is that losing weight over a long period of time is hard. You can’t go full steam all the time, so I think it’s probably pretty normal to have days and weeks where you’re less motivated. As long as you don’t go off track too often it will all work out in the end.

But yes, I totally understand that feeling of not being particularly motivated. I’m going through something similar myself at the moment. It will pass, or at least that what I keep telling myself! 🤞

SunshineCake · 12/09/2021 07:59

Morning all.

Yesterday has gone @Graphista so don't stress. You've already worked our what went a bit awry and you have a plan for making sure it doesn't happen again. That is a win.

We all lose motivation at times, we need a day off, but don't lose heart. We've already achieved so much.

I think I slept all night which is so rare for me. DH has introduced fist bumping as not allowed to kiss him. I've said I think we are allowed to hug. He's given me some pain relief as I have woken up coughing my so my throat feels a bit iffy and I have a headache. They have told me if I get a headache to just take pain relief. I hardly ever do and I have had three weeks of daily drugs but I can't go through all that again. Was just a horrible coincidence that I had migraines then tonsillitis and glandular fever.

I've lost 2.8lbs since last Saturday. I was weighed three times in hospital and lost each time. I'm surprised I've lost so much though as for at least the four days I ate breakfast which I don't normally do. I'm finding it hard, and scary that I can't, to work out what happened on what day.

swampytiggaa · 12/09/2021 09:35

Glad you are home @SunshineCake 💕 follow doctors orders please and get well soon 💕

I’ve got a 10k race at 10:30 which will be nice! Just going to be steady and sociable I think 😊 starting to feel a bit hungry but it’s too late to eat now… went to my friends last night after our night walk and shared a bottle of Prosecco 😂😂 so I’m drinking water and coffee to rehydrate myself

Today is a new day everyone! Clean slate time!

SunshineCake · 12/09/2021 09:53

Enjoy your run @swampytiggaa! I'm jealous.

I wish I'd had the thought to ask the doctor more. All I know is no running for six weeks. Dh has said I have to stay in bed for a week but I don't actually know. All I have done today is walk to the en suite twice and I wouldn't mind a lie down Sad

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2021 10:58

Good Morning All

Hi @fallfallfall If I sign in on my laptop its ok. I don't generally sign in there as I prefer my iPad. Its the iPad that has issues. Or rather my fingers (I think). I don't have enough electrical current in my finger pads to work the touch screen. Its part of my neurological condition/spinal cord injury. It takes an age to type. Some days are better than others.

Its great to read you're home @SunshineCake. I hope your letting you dh take good care of you!

Hi @Graphista continual weight loss is so difficult to maintain. Its something we all go through at times. Advice? I personally just accept the slacking of reins occasionally is just part of the process. I never feel guilty or bad about any over eating. I think its my mind/body needing something. If I'm unsettled emotionally about something I try to identify if its something I can do something about or not (Serenity Prayer). In regards to my body needing something, it does miss 'stodge' sometimes so ill have a jacket or gluten free bread/pasta. Sorry I didn't respond in my earlier post, for some reason when I came to my lap top your post was only visible after id posted (if that makes sense)

Ugh, I lost my mumsnet device (I've blocked it on my phone so I don't spend hours on it!) Hope everyone is ok and being kind to themselves!

Weighed myself on Friday, 49.3kg, so a loss of 0.8kg this past week!!! I think it's mostly because my period finally came. I've done more walking this week, and feel a bit more energetic than usual...

Behind with everything today but will hopefully catch up on the thread over the week!

TheRealHousewife · 12/09/2021 15:31

That's great to read @Cathy31, the weight loss that is not you losing mn :)

Hi everyone, just catching up on the thread after a week off as so busy and not had the mental commitment to post! Had two very social weekends so probably not great for me weight but trying to make decent choices, eat lots of plant foods and drinks plenty of water. I also made it to the gym for first time since pre-pandemic this morning, which was really enjoyable.

Great to see everyone staying accountable on here. Well done to everyone! @SunshineCake, really glad you're home and hope you're resting up and taking care.

swampytiggaa · 12/09/2021 15:46

Finished my race then spent 3 hours in the pub 😂😂 back on it again tomorrow!

Morning all.
I had a sneaky weigh-in this morning in advance of weds, and v relieved that there was a loss of another 1lb since last weds. Finding it hard to judge how much to eat. Torn between really restricting (fast 800) and being sensible. But then I have been very tired, and body feels like lead especially when I go out for a run, that I think I need to eat a bit more. Hoped less sugar and carbs (& alcohol) would make me feel more energised! But sadly not. But maybe it's just to come? Or maybe like you Graphista it's down to the autumn drawing in. Who knows.

Amazing run swampy - I used to regularly run 10 km and loved it.

Hope everyone have a great week.

Graphista · 13/09/2021 15:28

Well seems it may not have been simply the autumn drawing in, woke up with fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, sore neck and sore throat!!

Feeling rough as!!

So I reckon I'll have a good weight loss this week and maybe next cos I can't bloody swallow anything! Soup, overcooked pasta maybe and drinks only for me this week at least.

Not felt this rough in AGES!

Urgh

I'm prone to tonsillitis so it may "just" be that but even that can bugger me for a week/10 days at a time. Sucks.

SunshineCake · 13/09/2021 16:59

Oh no @Graphista. I hope you feel better soon.

I fell asleep this afternoon. I'm just so fed up. Not so much at the three weeks lost in bed and hospital but the fact this is the last week with DD before she goes to uni and I am going to miss her last shopping trip before she goes. DH is taking her. I also missed seeing my friend last week and I really need a good chat with her.

Well done on your loss @buzzofthebumblebee.

Hope you enjoyed the pub @swampytiggaa! You earned it.

TheRealHousewife · 13/09/2021 18:22

Afternoon All

Fantastic achievement @swampytiggaa 👍🥇 That pub visit is well deserved!

Great job getting back in the gym ! @TrueRefuge

@buzzofthebumblebee nice and positive sneaky peak weigh in 👍

So sorry to read you're poorly @Graphista. Is there anyone to look in on you in case you're not up to making drinks/food? Have you been kissing sunshine? :) Take care (tried to post a red heart but its coming out black and didn't think that appropriate. lap top is difficult to do emojis on)

@SunshineCake pleased to read you're taking naps; they will be so good for your recovery.

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/09/2021 19:34

Sorry to hear you are poorly now too Graphista. Toncillitis is nasty. Hope you & sunshine get better soon.

swampytiggaa · 13/09/2021 19:49

Hope you feel better soon @Graphista 💕 I’m not kissing you or @SunshineCake anytime soon 😘😜

Just been for a lovely pootle in the rain trying to run off my lunch 😂😂 I will end my birthday celebrations at some point honest!

SunshineCake · 13/09/2021 21:52

Doctor grinned when he said it was a kissing disease. Given dh doesn't have it I'm really confused and freaked out.

Graphista · 13/09/2021 21:58

@SunshineCake thank you hope you're feeling much better soon too. Can't be helped missing out on family stuff you'll be able to do it soon enough.

@TheRealHousewife thanks I've arranged to check in with mum daily and promised her if I feel worse/really bad to call nhs

Can confirm I have not been kissing sunshine

@buzzofthebumblebee thank you

I'm not calorie counting till this is done with cos I cba tbh plus I'm mainlining soothers just so throat is not agony

Soup, tea, soft fruit, tinned pasta is the order of the day here IF I get hungry not got much of an appetite to be honest. Can still taste/smell stuff but hard to swallow comfortably. Cup a soup and grapes so far today

Fever is one thing I'm finding the chills harder as they make my whole body ache!!

HolaVida · 14/09/2021 07:14

SW (Oct 20): 13st 6.5
CW: 11st 8.5
GW: 11st
Amount lost in Sept: gained 1lb

Haven’t been on here for ages cos I’ve been too busy….eating Grin

I’ve struggled this last couple of weeks - and I think it’s partly because I’m training for a half marathon. I’m not someone who gets hungry after exercise, but once you’re up to 8/9mile long runs you need to eat something that’s actually going to help your body repair itself.
So it’s like the training has put me off balance a bit wrt eating etc - and I need to reset if I want to get this final half a stone off!!

Sorry to those of you who are unwell- that’s miserable

TheRealHousewife · 14/09/2021 09:34

Good Morning All

@HolaVida Overall you’ve done marvellously! 2stone kicked to the curb! If you’re training intensely you’ll be building muscle, which as you know weighs more per square inch than fat. Your silhouette will be changing even when the scales don’t. Well done! 👍👏🥇

@Graphista pleased to read you’ve mum checking in. How are you today?

@swampytiggaa sounds like you’re having a blast 🥳

Menu
Meal 1 - Stir fry
Meal 2 - Bolognese with cabbage sautéed in butter (little bit not a lot)

Feeling blah today. I’m putting it down to the change in seasons. Having a chilled day and I’m not doing much.
