Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

My weight is slowly coming down but I don’t fully understand why as I’m not doing anything different than when I have l o n g plateaus.
My life is so simple (except for my son in law driving me insane) what ever I’m doing to facilitate the loss would be easy to continue.
But I’ve yet to figure it out.

Looking to loose weight and tone up but I’m completely unmotivated.

Currently 63kg and want to be 56 kg or least least less fat! I have a 3 yo DC and find it very difficult to find time to exercise and to not snack throughout the day.

Need a kick up the bum to get started

swampytiggaa · 09/09/2021 20:47

Helloo! Well done on losses and sts’s everyone 😊 and if you have gained well it’s a bump in the road and not worth worrying about as it will come back off again! Tbh I’ve been happy as long as I end each month weighing less than I did at the start even if it is a tiny amount 😊

@SunshineCake you are having such a shit time! I’m so sorry 💕 wish I could pop round with a cream scone for you 💕

I’ve had a lovely day 😁 sailed to Lundy Island for the day. 2 hour cruise to get there then 7 hours on a tiny island with no cars and only one pub and shop. Lots of walking and admiring the views and the silence 💕 saw dolphins on the way there and back and there were so many seals! Absolutely amazing 💕

Been talking about going since we moved down here but this is the first time it’s been feasible.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 10/09/2021 08:09

So I ate some of the kids sweets last night... a lot of them! 😳
Mindless eating whilst catching up on Married on First Sight... not my finest hour in many ways!!!!
Feel a bit rubbish for it this morning, probably the sugar come down!
Will aim to eat healthily today and get back on track!

Hope everyone else is doing ok...

TheRealHousewife · 10/09/2021 08:21

@ButterflyOfFreedom I had a big hiccup like you last week and was feeling awful both mentally and physically after it. The lovely people on here gave the excellent advice of drawing a line under it and if possible trying to rid the cupboards of any treats which I’ve found has worked for the last week! We still have some treats that my OH can have but they are ones I don’t like! One bad day isn’t going to derail all your hard work, just need to jump back on the horse ☺️

I weighed in at 83.3kg this morning, down 1.1kg from my ‘official’ weigh in on Tuesday ☺️☺️ I’m away for the weekend so hopefully I will see the 83.3kg again on Tuesday!

Morning everyone! It’s my birthday today 😁 I’m still in bed recovering from my hilly day yesterday 😂😂

This evening I am doing a 5 mile charity event 😊 which will be lovely 😊 doing it all over again tomorrow morning 😂😂 it’s a 24 hour relay to raise money for pancreatic cancer in memory of a running friend of ours 💕

So I’m memory of Georgie I would say appreciate your bodies and what they can do 💕 we are amazing and alive!

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/09/2021 09:27

Wishing you a very happy birthday swampy. Sounds like you can eat lots of cake too, with all of your energetic fundraising activities for your friend. Cake

Agree with the advice butterfly. What's done is done. No point dwelling. Most important thing is to start afresh and positive today.

Thanks for your post of yesterday @Graphista, lots to think about, about I need to be more compassionate to myself, and to others too.

Great loss @LosetoHike !!! Wow. Enjoy your weekend away, make good choices, and know you can get there again!

I managed another run today. 3rd in 2 weeks. Very glad I went, but it really does seem to be getting harder than easier. The only thing that kept me going was calorie burn.

Hope you get home today sunshine.

SunshineCake · 10/09/2021 10:23

Happy birthday @swampytiggaa 🎂

Thank you @TheRealHousewife

Bed three is getting worse. Not helping my heart rate at times. I told her to stop being so rude to one of the nurses today and when he left I told him he was brilliant. He knew exactly what I was saying.

I'm not feeling great today. Throat is getting better but I just don't feel right. Had more blood taken that I didn't expect. I've lost two bottles of water so hoping the drinks trolley comes soon. The tap water is awful but it will do until dh can get here with my sparkling.

DD is a bit worse so is having a phone call appointment with the GP in an hour or so.

No news on my MRI yet.

I look like I've lost weight but I'm not trying too. I've started having breakfast but I'm just asking for small size portions. I've discovered how the menu request works so now I'm getting a vegetable with my meals. Shocking how it is only ever a choice of one. No fruit that I've noticed. DH is stocking up on loads of veg for when I get home.

LosetoHike · 10/09/2021 10:27

@swampytiggaa wow so much running, well done you. Such a lovely way to remember you friend 🥰

@buzzofthebumblebee thanks so much ☺️ I’ve a plan to eat healthy light breakfasts (no fry or pastries or pancakes!) and not over indulge at lunch and then allowing myself to order whatever I want for dinner with a glass of wine! I hope by limiting my alcohol and only treating myself at dinner time it should limit the damage of the weekend 😂😂 how are you finding the running? I never seem to get past the phase in C25K where it’s just pain constantly 🙈

Graphista · 10/09/2021 11:51

@DayToNight welcome. It's hard when they're little but not impossible. Make changes to what you're eating, not simply less but less calorie dense food, exercise doesn't have to be in one big chunk, when baby is otherwise occupied so some running on the spot or star jumps or whatever it all counts

@ButterflyOfFreedom get rid of or "hide" (store them somewhere that's a pain in the arse to get em from) the calorific treats make them less easily accessible. Also have less calorific alternatives in - I am currently living muller light choc layers desserts 69 cals a pop, alpen light cereal bars 66 cals a pop... fruit is also nutritious and lower cal, I'm currently enjoying cherries, satsumas, frozen grapes on hot days (like wee bite sized sorbets yummy)

As @LosetoHike says it's pointless beating yourself up about it. It's done, it can't be undone. Move on, plan better, do better and be proud of yourself for recognising where your difficulties are

@swampytiggaa happy birthday! 🎉🎁

Well done on doing the run I sadly know a couple of people who have been lost to pancreatic cancer it's a sneaky bastard of an illness so that's a great cause

@buzzofthebumblebee I'm old and life has taught me everyone has their own hard. You never know what someone has been/is going through. I've had the experience of being confidant to many, at least partly as I'm very open about my own mh issues. I've had people comment they think x person has it easy when I know x has had a tough childhood or abusive past relationship or fertility issues or whatever. I actually can't think of any of my close friends who hasn't had it tough in some way. I've also had people make assumptions about me, I've been called a "hard faced cow" I've been assumed to have had a better start in life than I did, even on here there was a very amusing instance where on a thread the op had asked for help with budgeting which I had given and they didn't like my suggestions and accused me of being mc privileged and entitled! Ha! I was off mn for a bit doing other things when it all went off. Another poster who knew me better came back at op to say they were talking nonsense and THEY said what my background/experience really was...

People don't think before speaking/writing. Especially when younger. We learn. I'm sure I made similar mistakes when younger and less experienced.

More compassion, fewer assumptions is generally the way to go.

Well done on the run!

@SunshineCake urgh hospital food sucks! Which is stupid as nutrition plays a HUGE part in recovery if it's any consolation hcps also despair at it. Hopefully you'll be home soon. Get dh to bring you in some fruit? Fruit juice (long life)

SunshineCake · 10/09/2021 14:25

All except one meal have been nice and I have finally found the fruit option. I'm due to have my MRI this afternoon so if it is okay I might get home later this evening. I just have a feeling I might still be here tonight though.

Youdoyoutoday · 10/09/2021 14:35

Hi ladies,

Lost 2lbs this morning so back down to 14,12. Manged to go swimming yesterday and it was great to be back in the pool after a couple of weeks. Planned on going for a nice long walk today but in isolation due to DS being sick yesterday so school want a PCR test so we went this morning.
Just been lying on the couch eyeing up the app 'couch to 5k' not sure if I'm being ironic or not 🤣

Might use it as an excuse to run out the house as soon as my DP returns from working away!

Day 7 today of being dry and I'm very disappointed to report I did not wake up Kate Moss like but very proud of myself for not drinking this week. 😇

SunshineCake · 10/09/2021 20:23

Not drinking will have saved you so many calories though @Youdoyoutoday

Youdoyoutoday · 10/09/2021 20:47

@SunshineCake true but the mood I'm in right now, I think I'd rather drink, I won't but I feel like it. I know it sounds silly but at least last week, I'd not snack because I'd rather save the calories for a glass of wine. Today, I've grazed so much, it's actually rather grim so whatever good swimming did yesterday, I've certainly buggered that today.

Anyway, how are you? Did you get home today?

swampytiggaa · 10/09/2021 21:31

It’s my birthday. I’ve done a 5 mile cross country run. I’ve just had a very large g&t and I’m eating crisps. I’m having a very relaxed weekend 😂😂

swampytiggaa · 10/09/2021 21:33

Oh and actually I’m feeling very privileged to be having another birthday. Too many people I know have been denied this so I’m appreciating what I have this weekend 💕

And btw I love you all 💕 we are incredible 💕

fallfallfall · 11/09/2021 00:52

Meanwhile with all the produce I have in my kitchen, I’ve tried a new recipe.
minimalistbaker.com/fudgy-vegan-double-chocolate-beet-muffins/
And I’ll make it again! The flax egg substitute seems interesting for other muffin recipes.
Today I made grape jelly, and oddly enough my dd’s grapes in London were ready to harvest as well.

fallfallfall · 11/09/2021 00:53

Pressed post too soon. I made her a step by step tutorial. A bit of bonding

SunshineCake · 11/09/2021 08:59

Sorry I missed your birthday @swampytiggaa. hope you had a great day.

Still here @Youdoyoutoday. Think nurse said something about me going but I won't believe it until I have more shoes on. She said doctor is coming to see me. I thought I heard my name a lot this morning but can't be sure.

Feel very shaky this morning. Haven't had any pain relief since yesterday morning so I'm taking that as a positive.

Youdoyoutoday · 11/09/2021 11:00

@SunshineCake you poor thing!! Fingers crossed for you getting home this weekend
