Good grief, I’m sure the year is speeding up! July has passed so quickly!

This is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Checking in on the shiny new thread!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that August will be the month I reach a healthy BMI. The odds are looking reasonable, but as we all know weightloss can be unpredictable. So I’m trying hard not to get too excited.

I will check in on the 1st with my stats. Good luck everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 30/07/2021 22:29

That’s a fabulously healthy attitude @Crazzzycat 👍👏. Good intentions all the way!

Thanks for new thread @TheRealHousewife

I'm basically calorie counting, currently trying to stick to 1600 cals max a day, averaging nearer 1450-1500 with the odd slip up.

SW 13 stone 12.5lbs

CW 13 stone 6.25lbs

GW (but I'm breaking down into smaller goals as more easily achievable) 9 stone 10lbs as this would be me in a healthy bmi range. Aiming to manage this by this time next year.

So I've a long way to go.

1st target is 5% off my start weight which will be 13 stone 2.5lbs really hoping to achieve that this month.

This will supposedly according to nhs mean I'm starting to feel and be significantly healthier. I've already dropped my bp I think combo of losing weight and eating less salt!

As op says it also makes one feel healthier in other ways. I have bad mh and I think it is helping.

On the previous thread a few were saying about the 30 plant based foods a week challenge which is for gut health.

I almost cracked it last week hoping to manage it this week.

So far I have

1 grapes
2 satsuma
3 tomatoes
4 mushrooms
5 banana
6 carrots

Just heading off to make a stir fry so will be adding to the plant based count with

7 bamboo shoots
8 water chestnuts
9 tenderstem broccoli
10 baby corn
11 coriander
12 mange tout
13 mushrooms
14 nectarine (for after)

Goodness that's a lot of plants!!

Here's to no slip ups!

Also planning to get some gentle low impact exercise in (disabled) now I have new trainers

QueenMabby · 30/07/2021 22:38

Checking in. Was a late joiner in July but hoping to do a full month in August with a downwards trajectory! New wizzy scales are arriving tomorrow. Will wait and weigh in on 1st August so I have a month start figure.

QueenMabby · 30/07/2021 22:41

@Graphista am in awe of your veg and fruit consumption but I did laugh as I read them as the numbers you were eating so 1 grape and then 2 satsumas etc and thought you sounded like the hungry caterpillar! 🤣

Graphista · 30/07/2021 22:51

Hahahahahaha

I can be a very hungry caterpillar sometimes but I need to stick to the leaves and not munch the other stuff!

For a veggie I can be shockingly lacking in fruit and veg intake at times, I find it much easier in the summer, you'll probably notice me starting to struggle after the clocks change.

joysmoy66 · 31/07/2021 07:17

Checking in for new thread Smilewow graph that fruit and veg is impressive! Starting this month at 9st 10. Trying not to weigh again until the end of the month as I have a wedding to go to today then off on holiday Monday and plan on enjoying every bit 😁so want to give weight time to come back down. Hopefully will end aug around 9 10 then I think my goal will be 9st 7 by Christmas Eve.

CescaCesca · 31/07/2021 08:16

Hello shiny new thread ✨
August is my favourite month!! Leo season ♌🦁
Placemarking to come back in a week.
Ended July at 9 st 11, next weigh day will be Friday 13th... Lucky for some?!!

FuckingHateRats · 31/07/2021 08:37

Please may I join?

I did so well before - lost around 20lb and was pretty much at my target weight, and now I've put it all on and then some.

I'm 5ft9 and currently 84.5kg, the heaviest I have EVER been.

I go back to work in just over three weeks (am a teacher) and would like to have got into a healthier routine before I go back. Am also a bridesmaid at the beginning of September and would like to know I've done something to look and feel better than I do right now.

Would love to have a group to do this alongside!

TheRealHousewife · 31/07/2021 09:09

Good Morning Everyone

@Graphista I think a 4lb loss in a month is a healthy target and doable. It’s a similar target to my target for August. I got to goal last year but gained (quite shockingly) due to meds and taking eye off the ball. I’ve bounced up and down ever since. This month I’m making a concerted effort and exercising due diligence (weighing & measuring everything). The Fast 800 plan I was following have now added a 2 meal a day plan which is perfect for me so will be mostly following that. Im aiming for 4lbs too.

@QueenMabby Are you getting those scales that measure everything? I think I need new ones as they are fluctuating greatly. Your comment @Graphista being a hungry caterpillar 🤣. Cute.

@joysmoy66 Enjoy your wedding and holiday. I’d not be weighing for a week after to give my body time to regain it’s equilibrium 😬.

@CescaCesca isn’t it yours and @joysmoy66 birthday 🥳 in August? Are you sure you’re not twins 👯‍♀️

A warm welcome @FuckingHateRats, jump right in and we’ll done for getting back on it. How are you going about it. Like you say you’ve done it before and you will do it again.

Menu
Meal 1 - Big salad = lettuce, cherry toms, red pepper, cucumber, quinoa, chopped pecans, avocado, carrot, boiled eggs. Dressing of avocado oil, white wine vinegar, mustard, grated garlic and Parmesan (shaken to mix in a lidded jar).

Meal 2 - Halloumi & Chicken vegetable tray bake. Red, green, yellow peppers, fine beans, carrots, sweet potato, red onion, courgette. Drizzled with a small amount of balsamic. Followed by strawberries.

Enjoy your day.

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the new thread! Silly question but are the menus you post just inspo or what you'll be eating that day? Either way looks very yum!

@Graphista oh my friends spoked about the 30 fruit/veg thing the other week, sounds like a good goal to have. Otherwise it's so easy to just find yourself eating the same stuff over and over. Your 4lb mini goal sounds very achievable this month, we're rooting for you!

@FuckingHateRats welcome! I'm a newbie here too - 5'7" and weighed in at 75.5kg on Monday which also is my heaviest ever. Got a wedding in Nov I'd love to feel more comfortable for actually, thanks for reminding me of that!

So I'm at 73.6kg today, down from 75.5kg. Water weight for sure, I'm being realistic but it feels nice /motivating to have seen some downward scale action this week. Apparently I need to hit 72.2kg to drop from the overweight BMI category so that's my goal for August :)

Now I can't decide whether to officially weigh in on the 1st for a full month stat or Monday for weekly stats - I think I'll do both 😂

gggrrrargh · 31/07/2021 13:18

Hello! Joining too if that’s okay.

I’m almost two stone overweight, it’s been bothering me but not enough to do anything about when I’ve been having lots of sciatica pain lately (and queue lots of misery chocolate!) so I’m feeling determined this august to start losing some of it in case it’s not helping the issue

Juno231 · 31/07/2021 13:27

@gggrrrargh welcome! Do you have a plan for how you will go about losing the two stone?

FuckingHateRats · 31/07/2021 13:54

I'm going to calorie count and hit 10k steps a day.

Today I've only had a smallish bowl of porridge and that's totally filled me up. Making hm meatballs and spaghetti tonight - will go easy on the spaghetti and make myself a huge side salad.

Graphista · 31/07/2021 14:12

@joysmoy66 thanks. Not sure if I'll be able to keep it up I've had some unwelcome news today which means I am probably looking at a very stressful next few months!! Argh!!

@FuckingHateRats welcome

You're around the same weight as I am. But 7" taller!

Hope the thread is helpful to you

@TheRealHousewife that was the plan yesterday at the moment feels like everything gone out the bloody window!

@Juno231 thank you. Hope I don't let you guys down. Admittedly when stressed I struggle to eat but that can mean no eating through anxiety for a whole day then when I eventually calm down I'm starving and eat all the wrong things. Going to try so hard to keep on track as that will also help me keep calm I hope

@gggrrrargh welcome too
Losing weight can really help with physical issues like sciatica. My back is wrecked from a car accident and while not the cause my GP is always banging on I would be able to manage it all better if I lost the weight, which is annoying but I know she is right. However equally it means it's very difficult for me to exercise.

gggrrrargh · 31/07/2021 14:12

MFP calorie counting is main way for me plus walking as much as possible.

Looking forward to seeing others progress Smile

swampytiggaa · 31/07/2021 17:45

👋 checking in for the next month!

I’m close to where I want to be with my weight so I’m concentrating on lifestyle changes to keep it off. So 15k steps minimum each day although I’m going to aim for 150k a week this month 😊 3 litres of water no biscuits and minimal chocolate and crisps 😊

Good luck everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 31/07/2021 19:07

@Juno231 the menus I post are what I’ve eaten that day. I generally only have 2 meals a day mainly plant based with some form of protein. All made from scratch. I realise not everyone can do that, especially working mums.

A warm welcome @gggrrrargh. Sorry to hear you suffer sciatic pain, I know how painful that can be!

@FuckingHateRats Have you done the tdee calculation to work out how many cals to have and lose? It can be useful to know.

Not like you @Graphista to sound defeated. August starts tomorrow and I know you can do it! 👍

Hi @swampytiggaa great news you’re more or less at goal. Well done! It’s absolutely the right thing to keep on it to maintain your progress. Once the creep starts it doesn’t take much for it to avalanche. Keeping it in check is the way to go. 👍🌟👏💥 🥇

In other news (not for the squeamish so don’t read if you are) Goshawk has just had a pigeon supper in our garden. Swoop, devour and all that remains is a carpet of feathers 🪶.

Enjoy your evenings 😊

Good day here. Have frozen a box of ice poles to satisfy my sweet tooth with no calories.

Hope everyone else has had a good day!

Graphista · 31/07/2021 23:08

Having a seriously crappy day! That could well mean a crappy 6 months or more actually that's how bad it is!

Trying not to be defeated.

Baked potato in the oven trying to resist the urge to have with baked beans as opposed to cottage cheese and salad - help me!

Stomach in knots!

absolutely nothing I can do support/advice/help wise until at least Monday.

Been in tears at points. Sad

This thread is a positive though for me and I'm trying to keep it that way.

Sorry guys

mofro · 31/07/2021 23:31

Hello hello :)
Just found this and wanted to join for mojo and support

I’m a fatty and getting fatter daily! I’m
A junk eater and serial snacke

And need to sort it!

Will weigh tomorrow but am around 15 stone and size 18

I look good at size 12 and around 10.7/11stone

Big events at end of October and November so have something to o aim for!

Should be able to lose 2-3 stone on 3-4 months

Have messaged a couple of local personal trainers and willing to try that out as something totally different - hopefully with hubby but doubt hr will join me

Crazzzycat · 01/08/2021 00:21

Welcome to all the newbies on this thread!

@Graphista, I’m sorry to hear that things are so tough for you at the moment. I think having the awareness that that may result in less healthy food choices is the first step in resisting the temptation to eat too much or too much of the “wrong” thing. Stay strong! Flowers

Graphista · 01/08/2021 01:56

I managed to resist the cottage cheese.

Frankly I'm doing well to resist the urge to do a total runner - not even kidding! When I've been in this position in the past that's exactly what I've done and every fibre of my body and soul is screaming at me to do the same now!
