Good grief, I’m sure the year is speeding up! July has passed so quickly!

This is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

@SunshineCake - so glad you are headache free. What a relief! Definitely take it easy with the running - ease in gently!

Lazy day here today. DH is away for the weekend so it’s just me and the dc. Roast chicken for lunch with all the trimmings. I have a friend coming over tonight for a g&t and to set the world to rights - can’t wait!

Hope everybody’s having a good day.

SunshineCake · 29/08/2021 13:57

Thanks @QueenMabby though I have just taken two paracetamol as I do have a bit of a headache. Think it is an emotional one as can't go away this week so disappointed. I feel like I have lost ten days of my life and I'm so tired. Keep falling asleep watching FBI with dh so once this episode is over I'm going for a lie down.

fallfallfall · 30/08/2021 00:48

Caponata...recipe claims to serve 6, oh my gosh it hits all the right buttons and i could eat it all.
serving it as a side dish with chicken and new potatoes to not over indulge.
oh my @TheRealHousewife, gary's work space is in too much of a state to share stainless steel photo's right now. but will take some photo's to share.
@SunshineCake, surely not much longer till you feel better, be good to yourself.

Crazzzycat · 30/08/2021 07:50

Final August weigh in for me. After a week of lots of walking, but not being particularly strict food wise, I’ve maintained my weight this week.

My overall loss for the month comes to 2.2 kg/5 lbs though, so I’m more than happy with the overall trend ☺️ I hope everyone is doing ok?

Hyppogriff · 30/08/2021 12:00

Finally braved the scales and … they had run out of battery / broken agh!

Graphista · 30/08/2021 14:02

@SunshineCake glad you're starting to feel better hope it continues

@TheRealHousewife thank you

@Crazzzycat well done on the sts as you say the overall trend is what matters

@Hyppogriff that's annoying. Get yourself battery/new scales sorted ASAP.

QueenMabby · 30/08/2021 14:30

Argh @Hyppogriff - how frustrating!

I’m with you @Crazzzycat - I’m not expect much a of a loss this week but hoping that I manage to keep either to a sts or minor gain so that at least my month shows a loss. I think it’ll be easier once I’m back in a proper routine next week once the dc are back to school. I definitely find it harder if I’m out of routine.

HolaVida · 30/08/2021 16:23

I’m going to jump in here, if that’s okay, so that I can start on the September thread!

SW (Oct 20): 13st 6.5
CW: 11st 8
GW: 11st

Am really chuffed to have lost almost two stone, but need some accountability to get this final half stone off. My clothes have started to fit etc so motivation to get these final lb off is waning a bit…..

Graphista · 30/08/2021 16:42

Small gains or sts are to be expected and based on that article and other things I've read actually indicate a healthy approach to weight loss and you're more likely to keep the weight off too which is the main goal surely? It is for me.

@HolaVida well done and welcome. Tips for the rest of us as you've done so well? I'll take any advice I can get!

I'm struggling with the slow and steady thing if I'm honest as it's hard to stay motivated when the goal is such a long way off. Hoping my intermediate goals will keep me going.

Hyppogriff · 30/08/2021 19:16

Ok found some scales … 72 kilos. 10 kilos heavier than last year. Got some work to do !! Managed first run in aaaaaages today it wasn’t tooooooo bad !!

Hyppogriff · 30/08/2021 19:17

D @Graphista I struggle a bit with the slow and steady too… need to see some results to stay motivated ! I think the regular weigh ins will help me as the scales don’t lie and I can compare to weights from before

Hyppogriff · 30/08/2021 19:19

@HolaVida well
Done ! Impressive !

HolaVida · 30/08/2021 20:39

Yeah, it does sound impressive written down doesn't it? but I'm tall and broad and so it's not actually as drastic as it would be on other people (no one has mentioned it - apart from my friend who has been keeping up to date with progress etc).

First 10lb dropped off, then didn't really lose anything between Xmas and Easter. Since the kids went back at the end of April (Scotland), I've been vaguely doing 16:8, but on perhaps 1 or 2 days a week doing 23:1 (ie only eating once a day). Have been more relaxed at weekends and haven't stopped having takeaways/celebration meals etc, so it doesn't really feel like I've been on a diet.

Things I've learned:
-to listen to my body- some days I just need to eat more, other days I know I can fast for longer. I try not to overthink it.
-I've accepted that some days will involve more wine and crisps than is ideal, and I'll give in to cravings. I've learned that these days come here and there and it's not a massive deal (as long as you don't let it go on for days and days)

  • I need less food than I realised/used to. I don't actually think I need vast quantities, even when I'm exercising.
  • I can tolerate going to bed a bit hungry (that's saved me a gazillion calories in evening snacks, my weakness).

It's been working really well for me to be quite restrained during the week and then more relaxed at weekends, I wonder if I might carry on with that kind of pattern once I get to target weight.

Thanks for the welcome!!

Graphista · 31/08/2021 00:34

@Hyppogriff at least you know now what you need to sort

I'm hoping the happy scale graph will help me stay motivated - as well as you guys. Autumn/winter I tend to not be as good maintaining healthy habits, physical and mental! Need to REALLY work hard to resist that

@HolaVida thanks for the honesty. I'm in Scotland too and noticed today how early it's getting dark already! Flipping 8pm Ish sunsets here! This is what kills my spark!

I think I need to seriously consider an S.A.D. Lamp cos it buggers me every damn winter!

Need to get back to taking vit d supplements too as I noticed a significant difference with these - will start tomorrow

Well as per I've ended the month higher than when I started it, had lost and put on a few times, struggled with the fasting, feel like I lost ten days of my life when I was in bed, emotionally head not in the game. But I had lost another half inch off my thigh May -August, not very up to date as forget to measure.

You’ve had a lot to contend with this month 💕 start fresh in September and be kind to yourself as you are an amazing person 💕
swampytiggaa · 31/08/2021 09:13

I’ve managed to end the month bang on my goal weight of 9st 7lb. I’ve lost an inch off my waist and 1.5 inches off my hips! Boobs appear to have gained an inch from last month but I think I pulled the tape tighter then tbh 😂😂

I’m just going to carry on with the fasting and water and steps and see what happens. My goal weight was an arbitrary number tbh which is in the middle of a healthy bmi for me.

I’m happy doing what I’m doing not restricting myself at all during my eating window apart from biscuits 😉

fallfallfall · 31/08/2021 16:04

5 lbs down for the month. All in the first two weeks. The last two were really flat.
I need a good September, seeing my mom next month and she’s got one heck of a critical eye!!

Graphista · 31/08/2021 23:37

Well I forgot to weigh! Will do it tomorrow

But just took measurements and I've lost another 1.5" off bust and hips and 2" off waist!

I've actually noticed myself that I actually HAVE a noticeable waist again! So nsv there
