Good grief, I’m sure the year is speeding up! July has passed so quickly!

This is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I’m glad you got seen @SunshineCake, hope these meds help.
Today I’m a bit meh, had a very disturbed night and early start due to youngest, a shame as she’d had a lovely time on the beach yesterday and I hoped would sleep a bit better. Ach well.
Food: B - shreddies, skimmed milk, L - beetroot & onion seed soup, D - jacket potato (plain) and salad.

SunshineCake · 26/08/2021 15:03

Thank you @UnLunDun.

Iirc mine would sleep better the second night after a day at the beach.

I'm stressing a bit. The tablets are helping but I'm not getting much respite from the pain. I can only take then two hourly and I only have six. Just so stressed and really not feeling the love from dh.

Graphista · 27/08/2021 12:45

@fallfallfall

I never crave things enough to go out of my way

I'm the same! Hence the "buried" biscuits! Try and use that to your advantage?

Guests don't HAVE to have calorific foods, lower cal foods can be and are very tasty

40 hives?! Wow! I would love that. I was amazed to learn of all the different kinds of honey. Such a wide variety of textures and flavours.

@swampytiggaa couldn't get all the ingredients this week will try for next week

@GalaxyGirl24 don't beat yourself up. That first year post baby is tough in all kinds of ways! I was lucky I dropped the weight (initially) but my sleep was crap and my skin was a mess! In my dds 1st birthday pics my face looks like just one big red blotch! And that was with make up!

You'll get there

@SunshineCake sorry you're still having such a rough time. I have suffered terribly with migraines in the past. Do you know what triggers them? With me it's hormonal. I'm on noriday continuously now which means both no periods (yay! I have endo that's why I'm on it) and very rarely migraines now but it took YEARS to get to that point! Identifying the trigger is absolutely the key. Failing that what helps me when I'm in the midst of one as well as painkillers, dark room etc is a warm - not cold nor hot - flannel/compress sort of at the nape of the neck but a little higher so it also catches just under my ears. No idea why this works I saw it on a Facebook thingy a relative who also suffers shared as it worked for her and I was bloody surprised it helped! Hope you're feeling better soon.

I know warmth with a temp increase seems counterintuitive but I found it helped me.

Hope the dog is too poor wee mite

@UnLunDun it is frustrating when they don't sleep well. Hopefully she slept better last night?

As for me...

I had a fantastic day with dd so great to see her she's doing really well, happy, healthy, ambitious... just great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea but neither of us could quite finish it! (That's a new one for me!)

Then yesterday... well you could have blown me down with a feather (ok maybe not quite yet but I'm getting there) - 1lb off!

That was definitely a surprise! That means I'm 1/4lb off my first target! Which I'm "late" hitting as had wanted to be there by the 19th but I'm happy with that and taking it and running!

fallfallfall · 27/08/2021 15:14

Wow @Graphista that’s a solid loss and not far off your goal at all! 😊 happy to hear your meeting with dd went well.
I’ve had a couple solid days of no urge to rummage in the pantry, and good meal choices, not too many carbs etc. I’m excited for the last day of the month and seeing the results.
@SunshineCake, I hope you start to feel better soon and you get the right amount of tablets to help you through this.

CescaCesca · 27/08/2021 16:26

Well Done on your loss @Graphista!

I am joining you with a 1lb loss 🥳
And a NSV of my sister telling me "you look like you've lost loads of weight", I'll take that!

SW: 12 st 1 lb
CW: 9 st 12 lb
GW: 9 st

Happy Friday all x

TrueRefuge · 27/08/2021 17:24

@Graphista and @CescaCesca well done to you both on losses! And Cesca your sister is right, you have lost loads of weight!

Keep going everyone!

I've hit 30 plant-based foods and being doing well with my water this week. I've also done all the yoga and walks I wanted to - will do a nice yoga tomorrow morning and then relax on Sunday. Just goes to show, what gets measured gets done. I'm weighing in on the 1st, Wednesday, so will see how things are then!

QueenMabby · 27/08/2021 18:38

Hello - I’m back!

@Graphista and @CescaCesca - well done on your losses.
I’ve not weighed for over a week but am going to wait until 31st and do it then for my end of month.

After a few days with my parents I’m back to my usual routine. I had my first physio today and have been told to avoid running/HIIT but that I can do yoga and some weightlifting if I’m careful. I’m going to join a local cheapie gym once the dc are back at school.

@SunshineCake - so sorry you’re suffering so badly with the migraine and hope the new meds kick in.

SunshineCake · 27/08/2021 18:41

Hi everyone

Thanks again for all the good wishes. This is the first day I've managed to stay out of bed all day but I'm shattered now. I am on two lots of meds and atm my head feels okay.

No idea what set it off @Graphista unless emotional stress can. This is my first diagnosed migraine. I've certainly never had one that lasted eight days before. Coincidentally I'm having a blood test next week so will ask why and see if it is menopause related. I think the symptoms have maybe stepped up after my night sweats. As I have some emotional stuff going on I don't know what's that and what's hormones. I just know I feel like I'm not me, I'm not in control of my life. I've decided to go "home" the week after next. I don't really have one as never had parents but I need to see my friend who looked after me when I was small so I'm booking a holiday inn and going. Never booked before, is it easy?Blush I've heard about different prices when using booking.com or going direct through the hotel and as it'll be a lot in petrol I don't want to waste money. Any guidance happily received. I'd love to go sooner but I don't want to miss dc first day in 6th form.

Well done to everyone on their losses, STS and NSV. I've stayed the same even with no exercise in a week.

TrueRefuge · 27/08/2021 18:49

@SunshineCake, I generally find booking.com to have good prices and usually do free cancellation just in case. Their app and emails and communication are all easy to use. I'd recommend them, it's pretty simple that way. I hope you enjoy your time with your friend, and that you can find some respite from the emotional stuff.

Can I just add, the vaccine (Moderna) has messed up my periods. After first jab I was 4 days late, with so much pain. Second period after that was 4 days early. After my 2nd jab I was 5 days late and had the WORST moods I've had since I was a teenager. It's definitely affected my hormones, so maybe the immune response has temporarily kicked some of your hormonal reactions up a few gears. I get hormonal migraines - if I had one for 8 days I'd have quit my job and moved to an island, so I really empathise with you right now. I hope you can get some answers and better treatment from the doctors. Take care of yourself.

SunshineCake · 27/08/2021 19:07

Thank you @TrueRefuge. When I was poorly last year, probable covid, I had three months with no periods, three normal, nine months with nothing, a breakthrough bleed then a week of apparent normal period. Nothing since. I didn't notice any side effects from the jab except literally the jab, nothing cycle related.

fallfallfall · 27/08/2021 20:34

@SunshineCake, certainly sounds like your in the midst of perimenopause. HRT might be really helpful.

SunshineCake · 27/08/2021 21:52

I have been on HRT but had to come off it as I got immediate and constant headaches. Also, I'm not sure artificially replacing hormones I'm not supposed to have now is the way to go. I'd have to stop eventually. I expect I'll be seeing the doctor soon so I'll see what happens with the blood tests. Paramedic said I had to ring the surgery on Wednesday if still suffering. I know I am peri. It's just a question of where I am. I feel further in than four years ago for sure.

TheRealHousewife · 28/08/2021 16:41

Afternoon All

Busy few days here. Doing bits in the garden & home, and away for a few days now.

I bet they miss you @fallfallfall. It’s great to aid/help the community ❤️ I’m proper envious of your home created fresh bee honey from hives 🍯. OAN my sprouting failed. I was on day 3, rinsed twice a day and on 3rd morning they had grown little fur coats. I’ll try again next week.

@GalaxyGirl24 don’t be hard on yourself you’ve grown and developed a year old little human 👶. Mummies rock the world 🌍 🌟

Pleased to read you had a great day with dd @Graphista ❤️ Good for the soul ❤️ Well done on your progress, that’s awesome! 👏 ⭐️ 🥇

@SunshineCake sounds like you’re in for a great adventure, just what the doctor ordered 👍

I’m getting in gear to create Septembers thread. This month has flown!

Enjoy your long weekends 🌞 🌞 🌞

@TheRealHousewife, too warm :) mine are in a north east window. so daylight but no direct sun. love the description of "little fur coats".
the honey has proven to be a great hobby for my dh who has tons of energy (up baking bread at 5am type energy). the equipment is costly and the care of these little critters takes some discipline. for the first 3 years the outlay was 1K a month on average for equipment supplies etc. then on the fourth the income from the sales equaled the outlay of supplies and in years 5-6 more $ profit because all the supplies were purchased early on. BUT it will be more years time before the profits are more than the initial expenditure.
now i really don't care at this point when purchases come from the bee business/sales. it was a hard first 3 years swallowing these expenses. but dh is happy doing this hobby and it keeps him busy and out of my "zone". other wise as a retired couple we potentially could be within arms reach 24/7.
B: crepes with a cut up fresh peach
L: open face sandwich of some sort maybe toasted tomato with sprouts
D: chicken breast and mixed green salad.

swampytiggaa · 28/08/2021 16:57

Weighed myself after work today and this happened 😱 very shocked and surprised but pleased. I’m sure it will go back up again but everything is heading in the right direction 👍

Wow @swampytiggaa! Exciting

TheRealHousewife · 28/08/2021 18:08

@swampytiggaa or should that be @swampylicious 😬 lovely numbers! 👍🌟🥇

@fallfallfall I never realised bees 🐝 cost so much to keep. No wonder jars from independents are expensive, although I never complain. It’s great that dh has his own hobby, we don’t want too much of a good thing 😉 I wondered if it was a case of the sprouting pulses being too warm. I’d put the jar on a sunny windowsill. Your menu sounds very tasty 😋

Menu

Meal 1 - Kale, butter bean and Halloumi stir fry.

Meal 2 - Thai salmon on quinoa.

Apple, pecans, small yoghurt. Water, water, water 💦.

@TheRealHousewife, it's all the big stainless steal processing equipment.
i'm looking forward to september and fingers crossed can post a good weight loss.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 28/08/2021 18:50

Hey ladies can I join,

12s6, got around 18-21lbs to lose. 28 lbs would be an absolute amazement but I'll settle for 18!
I keep going up and down after having DC, still breastfeeding like so many others and for me it just doesn't seem to be doing anything for weight loss if anything, the opposite!

Struggle with cake and sweets, and having a sweet treat after savoury. I love food too much. Cook everything from scratch though so no savoury junk at least. Just sweet junk 😂

Graphista · 28/08/2021 20:09

@fallfallfall I'm gonna weigh on Tuesday too see if i do manage to hit it by end of the month.

Hope your larder dodging serves you well

@CescaCesca well done on your loss too!

@TrueRefuge well done on the 30 plant based, water etc it all helps

@SunshineCake really hope you figure out a cause and treatment
Migraines are bastard things to have!

@TheRealHousewife thank you. I had an amazing day was so lovely to see her

This month has indeed zipped by!

Meal 1 here today was sandwiches with carrots and humous, dessert of diced strawberries, crumbled meringue nest and peach yoghurt

Meal 2 - pasta with tomatoes and mushrooms and pesto sauce

@swampytiggaa is that you at goal? Well done!

@MilkywayMonarch22 welcome

Breastfeeding only used an extra 500 cals a day approx, that's only a couple of biscuits worth!

I'm counting cals and that's working for me, I have a sweet something after meals but I have low cal sweet somethings, mostly fruit or fruit based. I've more to lose than you, I've lost 9.75lbs so far.

I entered my data into nhs bmi calculator and it gave me a calorie range and says to err towards the lower amount for weight loss.

I'm currently working on 1550 cals Max per day having started on 1891 in June. But I'm often under by 200-300 cals. I check the bmi calculator regularly with latest weight so I will hopefully know when I really need to bring it down.

I'm tracking intake and cals and drinks just on my own spreadsheet on numbers app on phone and it's working well enough for me.

Tracking weight on happy scale app which creates a little graph.

Graphista · 28/08/2021 20:18

Just checked. I averaged 1394 cals per day this month.

QueenMabby · 28/08/2021 21:29

I’m drinking a large glass of wine tonight. Probably shouldn’t but I’ve had a lean day food-wise so I’m probably still (just) in deficit.

fallfallfall · 28/08/2021 22:40

welcome @MilkywayMonarch22 :)

SunshineCake · 29/08/2021 09:39

I'm back !

Slept pretty well last night. No real headache at the moment. Really do not want to go through that again! Really hoping my blood tests this week are hormonal based as think I need to know for sure what is going on. Not thinking about my weight. Will just take it easy this week. Might not run. The thought feels exhausting and scary. Hoping to go "home" this week. Just had a bit of news that has upset me so waiting to speak to one friend before I ring the one I am going to see as don't want to be crying on the phone Hmm.

You're all doing well. Welcome to the newbies. Have a good day.

TheRealHousewife · 29/08/2021 11:13

Good Morning All

A warm welcome @MilkywayMonarch22. Craving sugary snacks sabotages losing weight. What worked for me was to try to keep my blood sugars balanced so I eat protein with every meal (pulses, chicken, fish etc), lowish carbs and loadsa veg 😬

Welcome back @SunshineCake baby steps ❤️

Hope you enjoyed your wine at @QueenMabby. A little of what you fancy does you good!

Great post as always @Graphista 👍❤️

@fallfallfall sounds interesting. Are you allowed to post pics … I love shiny things. My favourite is the distillery copper gear 😬

Enjoy your Sundays 🌞
