Good grief, I’m sure the year is speeding up! July has passed so quickly!

This is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Yea I'm liking the photo idea too. Dds room has a full length mirror so occasionally see myself in that when I dare to go in there (it's a mess) and when I had a look when I hit the 7lbs loss I definitely noticed a little difference. Good idea to do a folder

FHR - even though it's just me here I still make a big pot of soup on sundays in the autumn/winter, less so in spring/summer. I then portion it out into foil trays (reason will become clear) and freeze then get a portion out each evening to be had for the following days lunch. I don't have a microwave so I reheat in the oven (so I'm not having to stand with it and to save on pots needing washed!)

So this was basically initially laziness on my part but I've found it intensifies the flavours deliciously - baked soup!

headachey · 01/08/2021 14:37
@Graphista I hope you're feeling in a slightly better headspace this morning. I will echo that baked beans are still a healthy and fairly low cal option!

@TheRealHousewife might be trickier with your disabilities but with the pandemic online pt has become a lot more affordable - and one thing to bear in mind is that you're then not limited to a local and therefore more expensive trainer... Eg my colleague at work uses one several times a week who is actually based in South Africa so only costs her £50/month whereas in London they'd cost £50/session. Just a tip!

@headachey welcome! 1.5stone is epic - how long did that take you? Do you have much more to lose?
It took 11 months but i've been so up and down lately... I think it's because i'm more comfortable in myself now, I tend to slip up much easier. I've got 40lb more to go so I need to get a move on. Slow and steady though, I view it as a lifestyle change

SunshineCake · 01/08/2021 15:14

🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢

Just looking back at my running and weight loss diary. I'm a stone lighter than this day a year ago. I have been a few pounds lighter 2 ish months ago but I'll take it as it is a solid three stone off that has stayed off plus I've lost another half a stone but I'm on attempt 3/4 to keep it off.

Nuggetnugget · 01/08/2021 16:47

That's a great achievement to keep a stone off especially with the year that's its been sunshine

Brilliant idea about the soup and foil trays too. I would prefer to do that than use the microwave.

Graphista · 01/08/2021 17:14

Takes longer in the oven of course and I must admit previously there'd be oven fries in there too Blush

Soup and chips seems also to be a Scots thing.

But I think with trying to be healthier I may need alternative ideas? Can you guys think of anything?

Also it's getting towards dinner time I have half a pack of wholemeal rice & quinoa there to use.

Any ideas that are relatively quick and easy (no standing more than about 20 mins for me) but that isn't a stir fry?

I have loads in to go with must be feeling calmer as I'm now feeling hungry which I tend not to when anxious.

SunshineCake · 01/08/2021 17:56

Good you're feeling better @Graphista. I couldn't think of anything except stuffed mushrooms or maybe roasted carrots. In my defence I'm very tired so brain has departed more than usual

Graphista · 01/08/2021 18:20

My brain is mush too as I've been awake since 11am yesterday

QueenMabby · 01/08/2021 18:23

I may be too late @Graphista but maybe a pilaf style dish? Do you have spices like cumin, coriander, ginger , cinnamon and turmeric? In a tsp ratio of 1, 1, 1/2, 1/2 and 1/4 respectively that would make a nice mix in a pan with a bit of oil. You can then add any veggies and/or quorn pieces to cook and finish by storing in the rice/quinoa mix (on the assumption that it’s a ready cooked pack). Should only take 15-20 mins.

Crazzzycat · 01/08/2021 18:42

I’ll be trying this out later, which may work for you @Graphista?

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/spicy-cauliflower-halloumi-rice/amp

Graphista · 01/08/2021 19:09

Thanks both sorry to have wasted your time although I may well use your ideas another day I have those spices and halloumi in

I ended up doing an appalling bastardisation cheat risotto type idea. Rice/quinoa with ratatouille with parsley and basil added.

It sounds bizarre but is actually quite nice

QueenMabby · 01/08/2021 21:09

Sounds lovely @Graphista! I do a similar version but with harissa paste and have it on toast with feta. It’s delish!

Graphista · 01/08/2021 22:18

Weird how we accidentally find lovely things to eat, for me it's usually when I can't be bothered to cook!

toppocket · 01/08/2021 22:24

Hi,

I read and lurk but don't post too frequently.

I started my weight loss journey on April 28th and I've had one or two off days here and there.

SW 12st 13
CW 10st 13.

Has a very bad day today as we had a family event and there was lots of nibbles and desserts. I've eaten too much and now feel really bloated. Expect to see a small gain tomorrow that I was spend the rest of this week losing again and recovering from the effects of fat/ sugar toxicity.

My loss to date has been from calorie counting (using Noom) and increasing my physical exercise. I'm now doing an hour a day hiking or jogging.

Looking forward to eating healthily tomorrow as my digestive system is really groaning.

Good luck all.

SunshineCake · 01/08/2021 22:29

2 stone in three months?? Well done @toppocket.

2 stone in three months?? Well done *@toppocket*.
As we say at parkrun it’s a run not a race @SunshineCake 💕 we all have our goals and targets and we get there in our own time 😊
swampytiggaa · 02/08/2021 07:42

I didn’t hit my steps or water goal yesterday and I had a (for me) late night. Absolutely fantastic trip to the theatre loved every second of it!

SunshineCake · 02/08/2021 07:52

I know. I wasn't sulking.

NSV another half inch off my thigh.

TheRealHousewife · 02/08/2021 08:06

Good Morning

Grey and murky here. I feel the summer weather isn’t definitely waning. The heating keeps turning itself on due to low temp. The nights are drawing in too! Better start thinking about Christmas as it’s only 145 days away 😬🎄😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Butterbean, kale and red pepper stir fry. Conference pear.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake. Pecans, hazelnuts, almonds (6 of each).

@Juno231 I never thought of an online pt. I need to replace some household stuff first though.

Warm welcomes to @DarkestBeforeDawn @Nuggetnugget @toppocket, jump right in. Lovely supportive ladies here, who are always willing to inspire and motivate. You’ve made significant progress already @toppocket! Well done! 👍👏🌟

@SunshineCake bloody well done. That’s great progress! You’re doing consistently well over the long game 👍👏🌟🥇💥 🏃‍♀️

@swampytiggaa sounds awesome! What did you go and see? I remain nervous about going to inside events.

@Crazzzycat that cauliflower recipe looks very tasty. I think I’ll give that a whirl! Thank you for sharing.

Nice to see you back posting @Graphista. How you feeling today?

Have fun everyone!

that's amazing, keep it up 😍👏🏻
Juno231 · 02/08/2021 09:23

@TheRealHousewife nooo don't say that, I feel like I'm still waiting for summer to start!

Yesterday was a naughty food wise - I skipped breakfast (I almost always do), had a light lunch and only snacked on one apple and some cherries during the day... But OH asked then me to make carbonara for dinner so that sort of undid it all. Doesn't help that I had a glass of wine afterwards as well! The saltiness of the carbonara has made me put a pound back on overnight in water lol.

Anyway so in terms of weekly weigh ins, this is where I stand now:

SW - 26/7 - 75.5kg
CW - 2/8 - 74.3kg
Mini-goal #1 - 72.1kg

1.2kg in a week is good though! Hopefully I'll have fewer slip ups this week. A couple of things I want to improve on:

 • drink 3l of water a day
 • Minimum 10k steps a day
 • 2x 30 min workouts this week
TheRealHousewife · 02/08/2021 09:30

Soz @Juno231 😬. Carbonara is so very tasty 😋. The salt/water weight should be soon gone. Well done on your loss to date 👍👏

Today is my dc 18th birthday so cake will be had. No run or walk as had to sort out doctors for dc. I have a thread in the litter tray which is making me want to cry. Today will not be a productive one in terms of food or exercise but I'll be back on it tomorrow.

QueenMabby · 02/08/2021 10:06

Well done @Juno231 - great loss! Also fab nsv @SunshineCake - it’s all baby steps. Just get through today.

Here’s an infographic from insta for us all this Monday morning. Thanks to whichever PP linked to esgfitness on insta - I’m obsessed!

And welcome @toppocket sounds like you’re well on your way!

@TheRealHousewife I saw Six the musical. Saw it in London February 2020 with my daughters. Might have booked twice for November when it’s in Torquay…
