Hello and a warm welcome to new & established members. July already! Lockdown easing and an end in sight! Hallelujah! Let’s embrace the summer and extending freedoms feeling like our best selves.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Thank you SunshineCake. Smile Then it's couscous I want to try. (Didn't like the houmous.)
It's nice to know there is an end to dieting TheRealHousewife. Smile Do you mind me asking how tall you are? I'm 5' 6.5" and want to get down to 10 stone. Only 1st 5lbs to go! I kept telling myself I'll be done by Christmas. Is it Christmas yet?! Grin Just seen your update. That's why I put by Christmas, otherwise I'd have to lose 2lb a week to get to where I want to be by X amount of time. We can do it, as they say, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon!
Congratulations on the two pound loss Millie2008! Star

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2021 20:15

@73kittycat73 strangely I don’t consider the way I eat as ‘dieting’, I’ve always advocated for finding a way of eating that’s sustainable as well as enjoyable. Nothings banned :) In reality I know I’ll always have to be ‘mindful’ and I’ve got that aspect ingrained so it’s become second nature. I’m not tall at all, petite in stature.

That was nerve racking … pleased that we equalised before the end of the 1st half … even if it was an home goal (although player did set it up to happen)

Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I definitely consider myself on a diet. I'm on 12000 cals a day at the moment. It's like ripping off a plaster to me, I want it done as soon as possible! Grin I know I won't be able to eat like I used to when at goal weight (I used to eat loads of cake, chocolate and crisps.) but I'd be able to have the odd treat here or there, and perhaps have more at mealtimes.
Just got back from yoga and seen the score. Nail biting! Football

132orbust · 07/07/2021 21:35

That has made me laugh so much @73kittycat73 12,000 cals a day is a very generous amount! I'll have a bit of that.
Sorry I have been absent for a while - bonkers situation at work - sorted now.
I know after this week that my weight loss is all about what I eat. I have only managed 7000 steps over the last three days but been too busy to eat more than one big meal a day as well and I have lost at least 1.5lbs from that.
Will weigh in tomorrow and confirm

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2021 21:41

Great diet @73kittycat73 …. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t enjoy 12000 cals a day 😬

Lol, I didn't notice that...Perhaps I'd have to cut down a bit...Grin
Graphista · 08/07/2021 00:49

@TheRealHousewife thanks. I'll report back when I've tried it. Sounds like similar to proper salt beef? Which I used to LOVE

@Millie2008 that's a great loss well done!

@73kittycat73 cous cous is great, dead easy to make and goes woyj loads of things.

@TheRealHousewife I agree the thing is to not think of it as "dieting" but eating more healthily as a long term/permanent way of eating.

I know what's piled my weight on in terms of eating - living on processed food when I wasn't able to cook. But also not regulating myself at all!

What got me going "graph this is needing sorted" was yes the weight gain, clothes not fitting etc but I caught myself taking 4 puddings through to eat one night!

I'd been letting myself just eat whatever I wanted as it was an improvement on barely eating at all - I had several months where most days I was only having a bowl of cereal or a sandwich and STILL didn't lose weight. Gp said cos not eating enough.

Bodies can be weird

Making no comment on the footy whatsoever... except to say I hope those interested enjoyed and it was an entertaining game.

veryblearyeyed · 08/07/2021 03:07

Thanks to whoever posted the End to End Run link. I’ve seen ads for that kind of thing but just assumed you did it mostly by yourself and got a medal, which seemed a little pointless. But now I’ve had a proper look it does seem like something that would motivate me. I’ve signed up for the Pennine Way, so need to do just under 2 miles a day. Looking forward to it!

swampytiggaa · 08/07/2021 04:41

@veryblearyeyed pleasure! I’ve really enjoyed doing mine it’s kept me motivated when club and races haven’t been on.

Woo hoo - 1lb to go.
So this recipe for success is: find yourself having to do two people's jobs at the same time and be too busy and exhausted to do more than eat one meal a day, a really good dinner and fall into bed. Certainly not recommended as a long term strategy but it really proves it is 80% what you eat as I have done less that an eighth of my usual steps i.e. barely moved and lost the weekend weight and another 1lb.
Lots happening this month so not guaranteed to lose that last 1lb to get to target but I will try.

TheRealHousewife · 08/07/2021 11:06

Good Morning Everyone

Well done England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 👍👍👍👍

That’s great progress @132orbust , you’ll soon hit goal. 👏 So tantalisingly close!

@Graphista I agree bodies can be weird. This weight loss malarkey is so complex and has many facets. So many variables to consider and account for … age, meno, health conditions, muscle mass, exercise or not, macros, drugs, micro biome (gut health), mental health and being in the right headspace, sleep quality, hormones etc. It is definitely harder as we get older but with informing ourselves we can do it with due diligence.

My little experiment with circadian rhythm eating came to an end as plan to eat breakfast fell at day 2. I just can’t face food pre 12:00. No appetite. Zippo.

Anyways have a great day everyone.

Morning, nope afternoon everyone. Smile I hope you enjoyed the football TheRealHousewife? Football
Bodies can indeed be weird. I was just commenting the other day about this. Do any of you watch My 600lb Life? It's amazing how weight shows on different people. I was getting frustrated as all my weight is on my belly and hips. But as my mum says, 'It always goes last on the places you want it to go.' Ain't that the truth!
Sorry to hear you are stressed/busy 132orbust, but congratulations on the loss! Star I hope you manage you goal this month.

Chocolate Smoothie Bowl Recipe - I found on an American blog, can adapt to whatever you have in really. Tastes like choc ice cream because all the veg is frozen!! Today I added a banana and also a small courgette from the veg patch! In the pic the choc sauce is the Sweet Freedom one - definitely a chocoholic over here 😂

1 cup Frozen Sweet Potato
1 cup Frozen Cauliflower
1 cup Frozen Avocado
Coconut Yoghurt (can use plain/natural)
Coconut Milk
3 tbsps Cacao Powder
1 scoop Choc Protein

Chuck it all in the blender! 👌🏻

I absolutely love the programme 600lb life kittycat!! I find the transformations so fascinating!!!

I'm in such a bad mood today Angry. After only one week off plan I've gained 3lb. 3lb?!!! I thought you had to eat 1000s of extra calories to put that much on? I could understand if I'd gone wild, but I didn't. My body must be so sensitive- I was eating only slightly more than I would have before trying to lose weight, so clearly the 3 extra stone went on by just eating not that much! My friends all eat WAY more than I ever did and are slum. I bloody hate my metabolism.

Just need to get back on it.
