Hello and a warm welcome to new & established members. July already! Lockdown easing and an end in sight! Hallelujah! Let’s embrace the summer and extending freedoms feeling like our best selves.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

@joysmoy66 that sounds a great way to approach things

TheRealHousewife · 03/07/2021 15:14

@Graphista I cook my quinoa in stock or add yeast flakes. I like the extra flavour. With some kindle books you can add ‘whisper net’ for a small charge. I prefer to read and listen at the same time. Goes in better 😬

Pleased to read you’re feeling more positive @joysmoy66 👍

Thanks both Smilewelcome to the newcomers Smile

Graphista · 03/07/2021 16:40

I'm gonna try a ready made quinoa first so as to make sure I like it before buying a load of plain. I make my cous cous with stock if I'm having it with a casserole or similar. Or add a dash of soy sauce or Henderson's relish.

I've ordered some mild sweet chilli sauce in tomorrow's delivery too.

Hi @Graphista, I love sweet chilli sauce but it puts my carb count right up. I sometimes have it on a stir fry 😬

Yay! I’ve done pretty well with my calorie counting the last few days. And today, even with a shopping trip this morning, I stayed low cal enough to have (supermarket) pizza, a large glass of red wine and even five Pringles during the match 😆 Pringles are my weakness so stopping at five is a huge thing for me!

1 cal over for the day. Super happy with that!

TheRealHousewife · 04/07/2021 00:46

My goodness @Sparticle I’m so impressed that you stopped at 5 Pringles … top banana! 👏👍🌟 bloody well done!

OP posts:
Graphista · 04/07/2021 01:26

5 Pringles? You're not human!

(Pringles were my gateway to fatness! Lived somewhere they were super cheap and was soon easily getting through most of a large tube myself of an evening, worse than blooming cola for addictiveness!)

Ive had breakfast today! For the first time in months!

Had cottage cheese and ham on toast for lunch and about to do a late night (but hours earlier than usual) omelette for "dinner"

Here's hoping my cunning plan works!

veryblearyeyed · 04/07/2021 02:36

Thanks for the tips, @Graphista. I’ve done five days of no coke now, and apart from constantly nodding off don’t seem to suffering too badly from caffeine withdrawal. As for wheat, its more a drastic cutting down (because that simple rule enables lots of junk food to be automatically not “allowed”). I had a charcuterie and cheese platter earlier with some nice baguette crisps so I ate those but avoided pasta for the main.

veryblearyeyed · 04/07/2021 02:37

I’m also trying to spot ibs triggers without cutting out too many things at once.

Graphista · 04/07/2021 02:40

So hard figuring out ibs triggers. You kinda have to cut one thing out at a time really cos if you do two or more you're not gonna know which is the trigger

TheRealHousewife · 04/07/2021 09:05

Good Morning Ladies

Well done England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿…. Roll on Wednesdays match.

I had to chuckle at my text telling me Your order will be delivered by Kok in a Plum van hahahahaha 🤣

Getting better everyday. The biggest bruise on my shoulder blade is very itchy now, I’m assuming that’s a sign it’s healing.

Anyways today’s menu is OMAD - roast beef Sunday Lunch without the Yorkshire pudding.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone. Smile
Hi Graphista I've been agoraphobic since 1997, housebound for most of those years. Had a bit of a breakthrough in my thinking recently and have been going out more than I had been. (The walking is good for exercise too. Grin) Just local, but I'm sure as you know out is out and a big achievement. I have pure OCD and know how irritating, tiring and debilitating it can be. Are you receiving any help for it?
TheRealHousewife are you low carbing because of your diet, or are you diabetic?

TheRealHousewife · 04/07/2021 13:49

Hi @73kittycat73 Sorry to hear of your conditions. You’ve made a massive breakthrough getting out and about for a walk. You’ll gain so many benefits! Well done! 👍👏🌟 I was pre-diabetic plus I’m coeliac so don’t have anything with gluten/wheat etc. I don’t eliminate carbs all together as I feel that isn’t healthy. I choose whole foods including brown rice, quinoa, beans and pulses and a small amount of gluten free bread. Our digestive systems need fibre! When I eat properly I feel so much better plus it’s the only way I lose.

You ought to see the yorkies I’ve cooked for the family … home made onion gravy, roast beef, roasties, cauliflower cheese, carrots, leeks, kale and green beans. Sadly I won’t be having the yorkies but will have everything else.

Forgot that the month had changed! So yeah, went for a run. Tripped on nothing and my knees, hands, chin and nose had a very intimate meeting with the road. So now it hurts to walk and the scratches keep bleeding. So I'm gonna read a book , have a cider and order take out. Fuck this.

Elle200 · 04/07/2021 15:16

Aww @Rewis, what a shame when you were doing so well going running. I do hope you heal quickly...... and enjoy your take out!

TheRealHousewife · 04/07/2021 15:19

Crumbs @Rewis sorry to hear that! Hope you’re ok! I’m pleased you’ve found us ☺️

At least due to facemask nobody can tell that I have tumbled 😅
Thanks for the kind words! I hope the pain is gone tomorrow. Don't mind a few bruises!

Graphista · 04/07/2021 15:28

@73kittycat73 my heart absolutely breaks for you. I've been at my worst for around 15 years. But as you probably know we tend to be born with ocd or at least the propensity for it. I always hated feeling "dirty" or feeling "bits" on me from a very young age, wasn't that kid making mud pies or playing with sand. Would scream to be changed if I spilled on clothes.

As you say it's absolutely exhausting - I don't think people get that at all! I even dream "in ocd" there's no respite

I'm on ads (been on many types partly trying to find ones that work or sometimes it's been a case of I'm no longer able to take due to developing issues with them - complicated), I've had a number of therapists and key workers (some definitely better than others! As commented on previous thread) but at no point have all 3 converged - which is as you probably know what is supposed to happen to achieve as good mh as possible with ocd at least.

I'm also dealing with my current cmht basically abandoned me 2 years ago. The cpn I had then couldn't cope, she didn't have enough experience in my opinion and instead of admitting that and asking for help she deflected the blame onto me. I was put under immense pressure from her to accept taking fairly heavy duty anti psychotic meds which I was not happy about and none of my questions about my concerns were being answered. This basically culminated in my being given an ultimatum (though she was very careful to do this in such a way as I could neither prove it, nor easily directly call it that at the time - so basically gaslighting me too) - take these really strong meds or lose support. I wouldn't take the meds without a decent discussion on the ramifications so the key worker service was withdrawn from me. It would be over a year before I had ANY more contact from or support from cmht until my gp kicked up a fuss on my behalf. Then I was referred to psychology and got the therapist I have currently. She's now been trying for almost a year to get me a key worker assigned again.

@TheRealHousewife I love Yorkies! Luckily they aren't hugely calorific if you just have a wee one but I get why you're not having one. I used to make my own but it's not an option these days plus would be a faff for one person.

Graphista · 04/07/2021 15:32

@73kittycat73 my heart absolutely breaks for you. I've been at my worst for 15 years. But as you probably know it's possibly genetic so we can be at least born with the propensity for it.

I currently just have the therapist and the ads I was put on 3 years ago and which haven't been reviewed because cmht basically abandoned me 2 years ago (long story). I only have the therapist cos after a year of no support at all my gp kicked up a fuss.

I don't have a key worker or anything.

TheRealHousewife · 04/07/2021 15:55

Hi @Graphista I can’t have the yorkies as they contain gluten/wheat flour and I’m coeliac. OH had 4 😮… he said they were grand!

My lunch without yorkies … tbh I didn’t miss them.

Looks so good. Sunday roast is one thing that I miss from the UK. Maybe I need to make some for myself! I'm very jelly!

Had some trouble posting earlier hence weird posts.

@TheRealHousewife yea I figured that re yorkies. Your lunch still looks yummy

SunshineCake · 04/07/2021 17:35

Fake it til you make it @Graphista. it's a work in progress for me. One step forward, two back, etc etc.

Ouch @Rewis!Sad. Hope you feel better soon.

That is terrible @Graphista! The two ones that stay with me are "you are annoying me now" and one who rang after I'd waited a whole year for an appointment. I said no thanks, too late. Had some very expensive but very good therapy last year.

DH made a roast gammon lunch today which was lovely after I had accidentally run for almost three hours. I'm absolutely shattered. Hoping I sleep through as I haven't in a fortnight.
