Oh I saw the Leon hummus in Sainsburys last week but just assumed it would be the same as the others. Off to Sainsburys this week....!!

Thanks for the gravy ideas.

I picked up a jar of 100% peanut butter (no oils) is this ok? I thought it maybe nice with some apple or in a smoothie.

I also got the proper Greek yoghurt in Aldi - I had also been buying the Greek style thinking it was the same.

Ooh that Sabra houmous is so delicious and silky smooth!

Tiredandbored · 05/07/2021 15:29

I still use flour to thicken sauces and gravy. I figure it's only a small amount of wheat and am happy with that whilst I'm still losing weight. If my weight loss stalls I may reconsider.

CatherineCawood · 05/07/2021 18:27

@LifestyleReset the trouble with PB isn't just the added veg oil, it's that peanuts have a v high omega 6 content. Omega 6 causes havoc with your fat cells making your weight set point higher. If you need to loose weight (like a proper amount like me - about 2 stone) then I would avoid it.

The issue with rapeseed oil is that it's refined unless out actually says it's cold pressed. Refined oils are ultra processed.

CatherineCawood · 05/07/2021 20:47

It doesn't say cold pressed. Guess I'll have to stick to the Leon one then.

We had choriço and cabbage stir fry for dinner here. Delicious choriço from the market - a free range, rare breed pig one.

Benvolio · 05/07/2021 21:55

That Sabra hummus is my fave too. Try the augergine dip from Sabra too.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 06/07/2021 08:00

I’ve found some omega 3 eggs too! Tbh, I’ve read they don’t add a huge amount of Omega 3 into the diet, but my reasoning is that if you add in a bit extra here and there, and decrease the Omega 6… it’s all going in the right direction.
Have made a frittata with them, heavy in veg.

TammyTwoSwanson · 06/07/2021 10:08

All the eggs for breakfast are getting a bit samey, so I've just had this as something different.
Porridge oats, made with milk. No sugar or salt, but some strawberries and a little drizzle of cream on top. It might be the nicest thing I've had for breakfast in ages! Lots of protein, some low GI oats, a bit of fat in the cream and milk.
Though I know fruit should be avoided in the morning, but there are only about 5 strawberries here, all cut up. They can't have that much sugar.

Yum!

Does it actually say fruit should be avoided in the morning? I missed that bit. I know you shouldn't just have fruit but thought it was ok with protein.

( planning to keep eating it anyway, just curious!)

Today:

Green juice with apple kale and avocado
Green salad ( chard, spinach, lettuce - with full fat cottage cheese and feta)
Lamb chop with roast cauliflower, roast peppers, mushrooms and broccoli

Words · 06/07/2021 17:30

Hmm. Just looked at the tables. Broccoli and mushrooms- and toms- are rather high in 6. I eat these all the time.will sub with cauliflower and courgettes and spinach if I can get it.

Broccoli though is also good for 3- as it's a green veg

Tiredandbored · 06/07/2021 18:11

Meals today:
B - porridge with stewed rhubarb
L - pan-fried cod with sweet potato mash and stir-fried broccoli, mange tout, courgette and red pepper.
D - baked potato with cheese

No Doritos today!!! Grin

I really don't think you should worry about the omega 6 in vegetables. Brocoli, mushrooms and tomatoes are extremely high in phytochemicals which do all sorts of good things for your body. We need a certain amount of omega 6 as our body can't produce it. Best to get it from veg and just cut out the UPF and veg oils.
TheLeadbetterLife · 06/07/2021 19:19

I agree @samthebordercollie. Other than making sure I eat more green vegetables than other types, I'm not bothered about the details of the ratios. In absolute terms it's small quantities of omega 6 anyway, compared with oils etc.

Aria999 · 06/07/2021 22:06

Yes when you look at the actual numbers of omega 6 it's easy to see why oils are almost all of the problem!

CatherineCawood · 06/07/2021 23:01

@Words I saw the table and the omega 6 in tomtoes and was horrified. But, Im sure @samthebordercollie is right, we don't need to fret over it if we have cut out seed oils we are 99% of the way there.

B: omelette
L: left over sweet potato topped Shepherds pie
D: bean chilli and rice, 1 apple
S: 2 rice cakes and hummus, 1 banana and a bit of 85% choc.

If I hadn't bought the rice cakes and hummus I wouldn't have snacked. I don't think I was really hungry, more so I think that I thought I should be! Doh!

My fruit and veg quantity today wasn't great.

Is almond butter better? I've just bought some as I thought it'd be better than peanut!

It's to add to a curry, 1 tbsp for a dish that serves 4, but I also like to spread it on apple slices.

I have more than 2 stones to lose so trying to follow the plan to the letter

Aria999 · 07/07/2021 01:53

Dinner: wild rice! First time I have tried it. With Nigel slater's vinegar and mustard chicken, and a leaf salad.

User1023 · 07/07/2021 10:04

I LOVE wild rice!!

I was wondering about almond butter. I have a peanut allergy so thinking of other nut butters. I used to adore peanut butter!

ColouringPencils · 07/07/2021 13:20

Everyone's meals are making me hungry!
Today I'm on:
B - porridge with whole milk
L - cheese omelette, lettuce and tomatoes
Snacks - have already eaten 2 nectarines and a satsuma, so better stop there!
D - I have salad, broccoli and corn on the cob, so just need something to go with it.

Tiredandbored · 07/07/2021 13:22

B - porridge with stewed rhubarb
L - pan-fried cod with veg
D - fish pie
S - Greek yoghurt and raspberries

Bit of a fishy day for me! 😂

behappy38 · 07/07/2021 14:12

@CatherineCawood

Hmm maybe not. I just looked here and saw the ratio of omega 6:omega 3 is 21:8 so I guess it is best avoided on the whole?
This confuses me too...He says chickpeas on a salad for lunch is ok and hummus as a snack is ok...but google search shows they are higher in omega 6 than 3, so gram flour must be too
