What is a socca?

Salad sounds nice, love artichokes.

Hi - it was... ok. A bit dry and the chorizo / putty drama didn't help. Not my finest hour!

Lots left but will save for later in week. Went nicely with the lentils so will need to use rest of those up too.

Words · 27/06/2021 19:44

That pork looks good.Grin

SleepWoof · 27/06/2021 20:08

For dinner last night I made garlic steak and potatoes and the previous night I had tuna-melt courgette boats. The steak recipe does contain soy sauce.

Tomorrow I'm going to batch cook ranchero sauce for huevos rancheros, my favourite breakfast on this WOE (two fried eggs topped with cooked salsa and grated cheese on top). Usually have some plain yoghurt with berries as well and then I'm full all morning. This is from the "Always Hungry" book - a lot of the recipes and meal plans apply to this WOE but they're American so some products etc aren't available here. This is similar huevos rancheros but I add yellow or orange peppers and replace the canned chilies with a random Tesco hot chili pepper which gives it enough bite.

HighlandCowbag · 27/06/2021 20:14

Ooo I do a version of huevos rancheros using scrambled eggs. I add scrambled eggs to a tortilla and then add quacamole, salsa and sour cream and a dollop of Lindmans chilli sauce. I may try it in some kos lettuce leaves instead of the wrap, or even a slice of naice ham. The mexican flavours go so well with the eggs.

HighlandCowbag · 27/06/2021 20:18

Amother good breakfast/brunch I've made is baked eggs. Butter a small dish, cover with ham, some cherry toms, break 2 eggs between the toms then a handful of grated cheese and bake for about 15 mins. Eggs stay runny and ham goes crispy. Lovely on a weekend morning and very filling.

SleepWoof · 27/06/2021 20:19

HighlandCowbag - That sounds good too! I used to make Indian scrambled eggs (or try to recreate them anyway) and should add it to my list but I'll miss having it with the chapatis.

What about making chapati with gram flour or besam? Those are both legume flours.
badlydrawncat · 27/06/2021 21:58

@Words @CatherineCawood
It's a gram flour ummm flatbread/pancake. Essentially it's just gram flour (chickpea flour), water and a dash of olive oil made into a batter, then cooled in a frying pan into a flatbread/pancake. It's Italian but reasonably common throughout southern Europe. It goes by various aliases depending on where you're eating it. It's really tasty. I like to leave it in the fridge for a while before using it.

I may try it as a pizza base later on. Goodness knows why, I don't eat pizza much anyway - but tell me I can't have something and it's an itch I have to scratch.

I love huevos rancheros (and shakshuka)

CatherineCawood · 27/06/2021 22:44

That sounds lush! Gram flour is ok isn't it?

Hmm maybe not. I just looked here and saw the ratio of omega 6:omega 3 is 21:8 so I guess it is best avoided on the whole?

sorry about the random smiley face, how did that get there?!

Sorry if this is wrong - I've read the book, but raced through it and need to read it again.

But surely potatoes and sweet potato wouldn't be part of this plan, as they're too high in carbs? Is that not right?

MyOtherProfile · 27/06/2021 23:00

Just catching up with previous threads but there's a lot to read. Am I right in thinking I really need to read the Andrew thingy book?

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/06/2021 23:25

Depends what else you want to eat. The book recommends gradually working down to a daily glycemic load of less than 80, but not going keto. So you could have carbs, just not much.
badlydrawncat · 27/06/2021 23:32

@BIWI there's no such thing too high carbs in the book. Ask he recommends is lowering carbs, firstly to below 150gm/day with an eventual target of 80. If your intake of pots/sweet pots can fit in with that, feel free to have them. It depends on what else you're eating that day. I've been eating LC (less the 100/day) for a number of years and I've been able to fit in an occasional jacket potato.

@CatherineCawood 21/8 is around 2.5/1 which would appear to be in the middle of the ideal of between 1/1 and 4/1. Or is either my maths or understanding incorrect (neither would astound me 😄)

@MyOtherProfile Yes, I'd say the book is important. It's not really a weight-loss diet, it's more of a way of eating to find your healthy weight - it's just that most of us have weight to loose to get to that weight. It incorporates more than just eating and the book goes into the science of it all. The thing is that there is no actual 'diet', just recommendations about how to eat and things to avoid. Pop into the other thread, that might help a little 🙂

badlydrawncat · 27/06/2021 23:42

Weight to lose not loose

badlydrawncat · 28/06/2021 00:50

OK. I've just found a different value on Wikipedia which makes it plain that chickpeas should be out. Bye bye hummus 😢

That wiki article has the ratio of chickpeas as about the same as tomatoes.

Frankly I’m not going to obsess over the omega ratios, as the science is far from clear on it anyway. I think as long as I’m avoiding processed food and seed oils, while eating lots of fish and green leaves, it’ll be about right overall.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 28/06/2021 06:56

Just place marking. Will be back later!

CatherineCawood · 28/06/2021 08:39

@badlydrawncat waahhhh I don't know! That's why we need to talk to the main man!

Breakfast today (still weaning off bread slowly down to a slice every third day or so). I had this bread with avocado and a drop of siracha sauce and a poached egg.

Not quite on plan but the bread is not an UPF it only has 4 ingredients (flour, water, yeast and salt).

I'm going to give the gram flour a go I think.

Words · 28/06/2021 09:03

My mouth is watering at that! I LOVE avocados, but have none in at mo.

Had a good workout earlier, and am starting to get hungry. I rather fancy eggs- maybe the baked eggs ham and cheese thingy will be cooking chez Words shortly.Wink

CatherineCawood · 28/06/2021 09:16

Doesn't the book say a ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 should be 4:1?
