Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Evening all. I went out for dinner (Italian) but only had one drink, a reasonably healthy main (veg risotto) and swerved pudding so don't feel too bad.

Seesawmummadaw · 10/06/2021 00:40

@MegBusset I so want to go out for dinner!

Ok, so starting at 9 stone which is a lot for me. I want to loose a stone, maybe even just half a stone! I’m a shorty and it’s all on my stomach. I’m a much better weight than I was but need to loose the belly!

FearlessSwiftie · 10/06/2021 05:12

@JohnSteinbeck I know the feeling! Photos where you are tagged are literally the worst, you think you look pretty and then just... Confused

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 10/06/2021 06:44

I put everything I ate on my fitness pal and it really surprised me how quickly I met my calorie target! So few calories to play with!!!

FunnyWonder · 10/06/2021 07:38

I wish I had the discipline required to log calories. My brain just doesn't work that way, no matter how easy it's made for me with apps and so on. I have suspected for some time that I have ADD, but that's a whole different thread!

Yesterday was good. Early morning trot masquerading as a run. Plenty of walking to/from DS's school. No snacks between meals - like a lot of people, these are my biggest problem. I dug the fruit tea out of the back of the cupboard as I find that I'm less inclined to want something sweet with it. I have Teapigs rhubarb and ginger, which is delicious. Also, mint and chocolate, but for me it's one of those disappointing ones which sounds nicer than it is. Other people seem to like it though.

Anyway, more of the same today - just going to try not to snack and keep my meals reasonably healthy. I'm feeling better already. DP offered me some of his birthday chocolate yesterday and I SAID NOShock He just looked at me as if I'd taken leave of my senses. Which, of course, I had ...

All the best for today fellow shrinkers!

JohnSteinbeck · 10/06/2021 07:50

Checking in to read your updates! Sounds like an ok day for everyone yesterday.

Mine:
B: Black coffee
L: 4 small eggs, scrambled with a tbsp grainy mustard
D: 1 ham, cheese & rocket baguette from M&S
M&S crudites - celery & cucumber
1 small cheese & onion quiche
1 glass of white wine

Not quite the no-wine I'd hoped for. I bought an extra bottle and need to get rid. Might have 1 more glass tonight then freeze the rest.

I'm really struggling right now. I had a very good friend & colleague who was elderly - we were really close - he died last month (of old age). Helping to clear out his house right now and it's painful. Was there last night, at least lots of lifting and lugging made me more active than usual.

Went en route to M&S to collect fatgirl jeans. Dunno what to do about them. Size 12 but I look more pregnant in them than I did when I actually was pg. Will prob keep to slim into a bit, as need them for sailing and sporty stuff with partner.

While in M&S I bought the dinner of doom. I couldn't resist the yellow stickers! Looks like the quiche has 249 cals per 100g and it was 170. The baguette was quite hearty too. Oh dear. But I guess it's still fewer cals than I usually have, and one glass of wine has to be better than 1 bottle, eh?!

WELL DONE for saying no to choc @FunnyWonder! I can't do logging of cals, either, but maybe once I'm further into this. I used to do the diet coke/fizzy water thing, too, but cant get into it this time. Think it has been a tough week alone!

@fingersdoublecrossed What did you do about the Gousto meal? I made one the other night, intending to freeze half but ate the whole bloody thing. WAHHH!!

Am really into self-sabotage lately and it ain't pretty. Trying to cheer myself up but inevitably with the death, I keep thinking "Life's too short, treat yourself to x or y".... Need to step up on self-compassion.

poorpaws · 10/06/2021 07:57

Good luck with the shrinkage today everyone. Day 4, blimey that’s gone fast, this time last week I was thinking about losing weight, now we are all actually doing it.

I’ve got a busy day again and late afternoon I am having my hair cut. It’s been 18 months since it’s been cut (thanks to Covid). It’s like straw at the ends so I can wait to get it cut. I am also having a deep conditioning treatment which I am hoping isn’t a complete waste of money. I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for a long time and I think she is going to be shocked at my weight gain, well really it is shocking. I feel a bit nervous at what her face will tell me. But because I’m feeling so positive at the moment thanks to all of you, I’m just thinking what she’ll say in a few months when I’m leaner than she’s ever seen me. Now I’ve written it down it WILL happen.

Thank you tor everyone here. this time last week I was so down, such a change of mindset now.😀

Morning everyone

I'm being very strict with myself. Am logging everything on the Ww app: I really did use to over-eat so much

Yesterday's meals:

Breakfast/ overnight oats made with fat free yoghurt
Lunch: quorn sausages in pita bread . wW crisps
Dinner: paella with prawns. Squid chorizo
Snacks: pineapple and mango

I have planned next weeks meals already and added to Sainsbury's order

Eviebeans · 10/06/2021 09:58

Morning everyone-feeling positive this morning. Having vegetable cous cous for lunch. I am definitely feeling better even though its only been three days. Proof I guess of just how much junk I had been munching my way through. Went shopping this morning to top up on fruit and veg and didn't grab any chocolates or other junk which is an improvement

fingersdoublecrossed · 10/06/2021 09:59

Morning everyone!

@JohnSteinbeck with regards to the Gousto meal, it was a pulled chicken stir fry. In the end, I cooked all four chicken thighs but the dog got two, the noodles were two nests so I cooked one and put the other in the cupboard. I ate all the chilli, ginger, garlic, spring greens. I used all the hoisin sauce but left out 15ml of sesame oil. I was quite proud of myself for my restraint - did a lot of calculations on my Nutracheck app!! Anyway, it was really good and filling. Didn't snack during the evening at all.

This morning, I've put a pound on!
I really don't understand it! I'm almost back to where I started a week and a half ago!

Lostmyunicorn · 10/06/2021 10:16

Fluctuations can be due to where you are in your cycle etc. Don’t lose heart....

fingersdoublecrossed · 10/06/2021 10:21

@Lostmyunicorn we're supposed to be going out for a meal tonight. I don't want to go now!!

I might have to stop weighing myself. It's driving me demented!

Eviebeans · 10/06/2021 10:25

Everyone's food is sounding interesting-i think I'm going to have to up my game

Eviebeans · 10/06/2021 10:27

I had been having the gumming vitamins every morning and have only just realised 🙃that it's almost the same as eating a jelly baby or something- it really sets you up to fancy sweet stuff so they're getting the elbow

MegBusset · 10/06/2021 11:31

@fingersdoublecrossed my weight goes up and down too, I'm up 1.5lb on yesterday but definitely didn't eat 4950 extra calories! Reckon it was my risotto which was quite salty so I'll have some water retention.

Although I do weigh daily I try to look at the weekly trend which should be downward.

fingersdoublecrossed · 10/06/2021 11:37

@MegBusset I do eat quite a lot of salt but I would have thought that if I eat a lot of salt everyday, my body would always be retaining water?! 🤷‍♀️😂

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 10/06/2021 11:50

poorpaws I hope it goes well at the hairdressers, I'm getting my hair done this afternoon also Grin - can't wait I haven't had it cut since my birthday last summer, it's so frizzy and out of shape I look like worzel gummage!

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat myfitnesspal is great for keeping track, and not overeating. It stops me mindlessly snacking, because I have to log it, and then feel bad about the extra calories.
It's also eye opening to see how much calories are actually in some 'healthy' foods.

Eviebeans · 10/06/2021 12:05

My most recent haircut was courtesy of my husband 😆

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/06/2021 12:58

Hi everyone, I would love to join! I've lost just over a stone this year but still have 2.5 to go Sad and just seem to have hit a plateau - haven't managed to lose anything for about 3 weeks now. I've been doing loads of exercise compared to my inactivity beforehand, so have come to the sad but inevitable conclusion that it must be what I'm eating that's making the difference...

I've reactivated my WW membership and will start that from Monday. I'm now trying to find the motivation to meal plan and actually get off my arse and keep going, it feels very lonely IRL! I'm a SAHM with two small DC and I've been kidding myself that no-one cares what I look like, but I care, my weight is now at the point where I'm embarrassed to meet up with friends because I know they think I've let myself go (and they'd be right!). However, I have a family wedding to attend in 5 weeks and desperate measures are required to fit into a party frock by then Shock

Phew, I feel a bit better just writing all that down! Hope everyone is having a more motivated day than me!!

fingersdoublecrossed · 10/06/2021 13:10

My lunch - and I weighed it all. I've also had a cup of tea and a cup of coffee today both with 50ml of semi-skimmed milk. If I don't go out tonight, my Gousto meal will be 574.
I can't think what else to do to shift some. I've been Googling perimenopause because maybe that's it?

It's definitely harder for me now I've hit peri @fingersdoublecrossed. It's why I try to do plenty of cardio exercise, otherwise the scales don't move at all! apart from upwards, unfortunately

I've tried MFP but it just wouldn't connect with my Fitbit so I gave it up in a massive huff Angry

MegBusset · 10/06/2021 13:47

I'm in peri too and it definitely makes it harder. My body shape is changing too and I'm much more likely to put on weight on my belly and hips. Any time I lose some, it comes straight off my boobs Sad

Eviebeans · 10/06/2021 13:56

Agree with Meg about the boobs I've been exactly the same -lost 2 stone during first lockdown and there was a major amount of shrinkage. Sadly when I put 10 pounds back on it doesn't seem to have gone back in that area

Guestdressquery · 10/06/2021 18:51

Not the best day as it included but still better than my usual days so chalking it up as a net gain (and hopefully, overall, a net loss!).

B: overnight oats, raspberries, pecans
L: pasta with homemade bolognese (small bowl), 2 Ferrero Rocher
D: small bowl pasta with cherry tomatoes and olive oil, 2 Ferrero Rocher

Too busy for snacks today!

2l water drunk (plus 2 cups weak tea, 1 cup black coffee) and 10k steps done.

Guestdressquery · 10/06/2021 18:51

*as it included chocolate
