I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

@MegBusset it’s such a good feeling when someone notices your weight loss. Sadly I’m not at that stage yet but maybe after another half stone, maybe!

Well done Meg, that must have felt brilliant.

Too hot here to do anything today, but thankfully I also don't feel like eating much either.

I tried to do a workout yesterday but nearly fainted in the heat and felt dizzy so I gave up. Just went for a walk early this morning before it got too hot.

I think Monday's weigh in is not going to be great, but hopefully I haven't gained this week.

poorpaws · 17/07/2021 15:43

@Mulletsaremisunderstood it’s far too hot to do anything here too. Not a good time to do workouts but good that you did the early walk. I wish I had your discipline. The pavements were too hot for the dogs paws (so I haven’t done nearly as many steps as usual) and I met a lady I know who had got up at 5.30 am to walk hers, made me feel like a bad owner. It’s unbearable here, and I like the heat.

Staying away from the ice cream and ice lollies is a challenge. So far so good but I can’t make any promises for this evening.

Hope everyone is cooling down a little now and keeping on track.

Hello everyone. poorpaws your restraint in the face of ice cream is very admirable in this weather. Congratulations Meg - it must feel great to know your efforts have made a difference. Take it easy Mullets - it's just not the weather for exercise.

I've got people round tomorrow, so have done lots of baking today. I haven't eaten any finished products but feel like I've eaten too much frangipane and biscuit dough while cooking. BBQ this evening. Plan is to miss out the buns and potato salad, and stick to meat and salad. I'm another one who will be happy just to avoid a gain this week.

poorpaws · 17/07/2021 17:33

For a snack I’ve been eating these. They are not nearly as good as kitkats, galaxy, crunchies etc but for 80 cals not so bad. They have popcorn, tiny chocolate pick and what I thought were nuts. It turns out that the “nuts“ are actually small pieces of pretzels. I’ve had worse though and they last a little bit longer than those little brownie ones advertised.

Evening All!

I hope you have had a good Saturday and have been enjoying summer! It's been boiling out but I am loving every minute, especially after all the rain and miserable weather we've had to date. I like hearing people outside making the most of their gardens and the wafts of BBQ!

@TheTurn0fTheScrew I have BBQ envy of what you are having tonight! It sounds mouth watering! Alas no BBQ here as I finished off some leftover pizza that my OH ordered last night! I was so disciplined yesterday but today it was irresistible for lunch. That said, it's been a busy day and I haven't stopped. We did a walk this morning before it got too hot, then I did a zumba class as it got hotter and as it got warmer still, I mowed the lawn and did 3 hours of gardening!!! Madness! It's going to be an evening with a few alcohol free beers for sure! Luckily I don't feel hungry after the pizza but I am absolutely parched!

@poorpaws those bars look quite tasty. I haven't bought anything this time around but I always found that a KitKat (2 fingers) was quite a good bet. I think it is only 110 calories so not too horrific in moderation!

Well done @MegBusset on the noticeable loss. It is such a nice feeling when other people notice! Keep going everyone else as it sounds like progress is being made in the right direction.

Have a good Saturday night Smile

poorpaws · 18/07/2021 07:50

Good morning everyone

It’s already redhot outside so no doubt we’re going to have an unbearable day again in the heat, it’s much better than rain though.

How are you all doing? It’s getting a bit quiet on here so I wonder if some people have given up which I find sad because we were all so determined at the beginning. I think we are about six weeks in now which is a difficult time and also some people will be on holiday and no one wants to eat healthily on holiday.

I’m still trying very hard to catch up after last week but it is difficult to not eat ice cream/ice lollies in this heat. I am drinking lots of ice cold diet Coke instead.

Another weigh in tomorrow, Mondays come round so quickly. Good luck with the eating/exercise (I must increase my exercise) today and fingers crossed for a good loss for all of us tomorrow.

Has anyone here done Noom? I would like to see a plan before splashing out on a subscription

ItsVousNotMoi · 18/07/2021 08:14

I'm out all day and have to eat on the go. All Maccy Ds and KFC. I hate meal deals as I am coeliac
Can anyone advise? I had 2 stones to lose

MegBusset · 18/07/2021 09:09

@ItsVousNotMoi can you take some food with you in a cool bag?

Is scorching hot here so going out for an early walk. BBQ later then another walk in the evening when the temperature is a bit more sensible.

Annoyingly my sciatica is playing up so no running for me this weekend. Hoping the walking will help it go away.

FunnyWonder · 18/07/2021 10:07

Morning all! Still here @poorpaws but very much off course I'm afraid.

It was DS1's 13th yesterday and we had a few family members up. I expected I would overindulge a bit, but not to the extent I did. I used it as an excuse to go a bit crazy and am disappointed with myself. I guess I wouldn't feel so bad if it wasn't for the fact that I was already getting back into old habits. I'm still exercising but it's never going to be enough. So my expectations are low for weighing myself tomorrow. Today I will be better!!

It was the hottest day ever recorded in NI yesterday. I think most of the heat was centred on my back garden! Today looks very much the same. So plenty of cold calorie free drinks I reckon. And no chocolate/cake/wine/crisps/ice cream/lollies like yesterday Grin

poorpaws · 18/07/2021 16:38

@ItsVousNotMoi sorry I can’t help you with Noom, I know nothing about it but I do agree with @MegBusset about using a cool bag. That way you can eat whatever you choose to and it will stay fresh for when you want it. Less expensive than Noom too I would think.

@MegBusset enjoy your BBQ, I must say I feel envious, it’s ages since we had one or I was invited to one. Your walks will sort out the BBQ calories a little. I’m doing much sorter walks in this heat as the dogs aren’t coping but it’s not good for my daily steps total. I always intend to go again in the evening but I’m always too tired when dinner is over. I just want to sit down and have a lazy evening.

@FunnyWonder I’m glad you’re still here. Don’t be like me this week, I’ve driven myself crazy because I gained half a pound. The drama I’ve put myself through you’d think I gained at least a stone. The thing is if it were a friend who’d had a little blip I’d be kind and say not to worry but because I did it i’ve persecuted myself for a week. I’ve had to give myself a strong talking to because I don’t want to go through a week like this again as life wasn’t worth living 🙄

Be kind to yourself, we are all going to have times when we go a bit askew, it’s a long journey for some of us (Me!) with a lot to lose.

Kids birthdays are far more special than when we are older, I’m pleased you enjoyed the day. Prepare for not losing, or gaining tomorrow, deep breath and re-start, you’ll be good in the end.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/07/2021 18:43

I'm still here too @poorpaws apart from melting in the heat - I'm so glad that I've lost a bit of weight, this weather would be unbearable if I was still at my previous weight! I mean I still have two stone to go but better than nothing...

Hope your DS enjoyed his birthday @FunnyWonder - does he still want to do things with you at 13? My DC are only Reception age so I'm not sure how keen teenage boys are to take part in family things, but as it's nearly the summer holidays, could you plan more activities with him to keep you motivated?! I'm trying to do the same with mine - booking swimming, finding walking trails, sorting out parkrun stuff - both to keep us all occupied and to keep me moving! Now I just need to plan some meals and snacks to feed the ravenous beasts DC during the school holidays Shock

I don't know anyone who's used Noom @ItsVousNotMoi but if you search on Mumsnet you'll probably find some reviews? I have tried Our Path/ Second Nature which I found helpful, but only when I could be at home and in control of my own meals, it wasn't as flexible as (for example) WW/ SW/ calorie counting.

I'm considering investing in a BBQ for this year @MegBusset, we've never had one before as the DC would no doubt have knocked it over and caused a towering inferno Hmm but now they're a bit older it would be a nice thing to cook on occasionally. Plus I could make loads of salads/ veg and eat those rather than the bread side of things. I definitely would not sit out there with a nice chilled wine or beer and then scoff down everything in sight, oh no!

FunnyWonder · 18/07/2021 20:49

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl DS1 is unpredictable. One day he's springing about like a puppy asking to go for walks etc, the next day he's slumping around looking furtive and embarrassed. I suppose I should take advantage of the good days! My other DS is almost 9 and can be hard to drag out anywhere, but once he's out he doesn't want to go home ... ever. I think, when he's older, he will be the last one to leave every party😂 Aw, your DC are at a lovely age - harder work, but so much fun.

@poorpaws Thank you - I'm trying really hard not to beat myself up, but I do feel a bit sorry for myself! Especially when DP is eating everything in sight and not putting on an ounce. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not like him!

Anyway, onwards and upwards as they say. Good luck for tomorrow everyone!

poorpaws · 18/07/2021 21:21

Fingers crossed for everyone tomorrow. Good luck to all of you (and if I’ve not lost weight I’ll stamp and scream like a toddler 😱)

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl
I’m glad you’re still here too. I’ve got this nightmare in my head that one day I’ll log on here and you’ll all have disappeared and I’ll be all alone and still fat ☹️🤐

Morning all. I hope everyone had a good Sunday and that the lure of ice cream, barbeques and chilled wine wasn't too strong.

I haven't lost, but haven't gained, which given my weight is a fair result. Looking forward to hearing of some losses!

Morning all Smile hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine.

A loss for me this week, but overshadowed slightly by my sciatica continuing to play up. I can't take ibuprofen because of another medical condition so am trying to take the edge off with paracetamol and keep mobile. Fingers crossed it resolves itself soon!

@TheTurn0fTheScrew well done on the no gain, it’s difficult with the lure of ice cream in this weather.

@MegBusset you are so near your goal, I am so envious, well done.

So so pleased for a loss this week, I’ve put myself through hell to get one. Stats going down slowly but I’m finding it hard.

I think today we are at the start of week 7. As I’ve said before at the end of this week is the time most people are prone to give in. Don’t leave me 😢

OP posts:
FunnyWonder · 19/07/2021 08:20

I'm joining you in your boat @TheTurn0fTheScrew as I haven't lost or gained anything. And all I can think is phew, thank goodness for that! Because I really expected a gain. I FEEL bigger. But this is heartening for me.

Brilliant @poorpaws you've done really well. I'm utterly delighted for you😊

Wow @MegBusset you're very nearly there. I'm sorry you're in pain with sciatica. It must be very difficult for you, but it makes your loss even more of an achievement.

I don't think I can manage my run this morning as it's already very warm here and I'm terrible in the heat. I love cool winter runs (as long as there's no ice!) Still deliberating! I might go tonight when it's cooler. Overall I'm feeling positive and am determined to get those scales moving down next Monday.

VenusStarr · 19/07/2021 08:21

Hi everyone, maintained this week which I'm happy with as I've been less strict with myself, but still monitoring my calories, a couple of days I have been about 150 over my daily limit but I'm still eating a lot less than I used too. I'm more mindful.

Well done on the loss @MegBusset @poorpaws 👏 well done too @TheTurn0fTheScrew

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 19/07/2021 08:42

Morning everyone.

Well done for the big loss poorpaws, after the week that was that's brilliant. Well done Meg, you'll soon be at your goal weight, exciting! I'm sorry you're struggling with sciatica, apparently there are some yoga poses that might be helpful to relieve it a bit.

Well done for maintaining Turn, Funny and Venus.

Somehow I managed a loss this week of just over a pound! In reality I think it's just because the last few days it's been too hot to eat anything much, so I've subsisted on cold water and ice lollies with a bit of salad for dinner. Not very sustainable.
I'm trying to go for walks early in the morning before it gets too hot.

A loss is great but I don't feel very healthy this week, just tired and grumpy and lethargic. Anyone else struggling to sleep in this weather?

I'll never be a summer person I'm afraid, I'm the pale and sweaty mess in the corner. Sorry to be the one to say it but roll on cool Autumn evenings.

SW: 10st 11.8lbs

GW: 9st 7lbs

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/07/2021 10:19

Well done on the losses @poorpaws, @MegBusset and @Mulletsaremisunderstood and for everyone who's maintained in the face of BBQs, wine and ice cream Grin

I'm with you in longing for cooler evenings Mullets. I don't mind a bit of sunshine to lift everyone's spirits but I like it cooler at night so I can sleep - plus really hot weather is a pain with small DC as they get grumpy and need to be slathered in sun cream at regular intervals!

I have loads of exercise planned for this week @poorpaws, am hoping to stick with you for at least another week before we go on holiday! Plus I need to stock up on healthy food whilst I still have chance to visit the shops without the DC in tow...

1lb off this week for me. I'd like to say it was due to my running, Shredding and general virtuousness but actually I think it's because my earache makes it miserable for me to eat much and then I end up coughing when I eat! As weight loss diets go I wouldn't recommend it Sad however, it does put me just under the half way point in my journey which is a happy milestone!

SW: 14st
CW: 12st 4.5lb
GW: 10st 6lb

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 19/07/2021 14:08

Well done Clara, It's a nice boost before your holiday. Unfortunately an earache might make going on a plane a nightmare, hopefully it recovers before then.

So there were no gains this week, just losses and maintains - that's great. Go team!
