Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

@zippityzip welcome back, it’s good to have you here. I’ve been struggling too but there’s a lot of support here. Well done on the re-start.

Morning everyone

It’s a beautiful hot, sunny morning, does your heart good. How are you all doing?

I’m working very hard to make up for the gain last week. I know we will be out for the day later this week, including lunch out, so I’m trying to make up for that before it happens 😀

Have a lovely healthy day everyone.

Morning
I am at an absolute despair loss as to why I am losing no weight
I think I lost an inch off my waist but nothing I am doing is working on the scales

poorpaws · 14/07/2021 08:54

@Menora keep at it is my advice, just keep plodding on and I know how soul destroying it is. Maybe ditch the scales for a while until you notice a difference.

You didn’t gain weight in a few weeks and you won’t lose it in a few weeks either. Did you constantly weigh yourself when you were gaining weight? Very few people do that so I think stop weighing yourself and your clothes will tell you when you are losing weight. Also can you move I bit more (I should talk 🙄). Please don't give up, that would be the worst thing you could do.

OP posts:
FunnyWonder · 14/07/2021 08:54

Morning @Menora I wonder if you are exercising a lot and building muscle, meaning that your efforts are taking longer to show on the scales? Please don't be downhearted though. I wish I had proper advice, but I'm just winging it here! Just to say keep going and hopefully things will start to go your way. An inch off your waist is fantastic. I wish I could lose even a centimetre off my waist. It's my most hated area.

Menora · 14/07/2021 09:33

I’m only walking (brisk) so more cardio and fat burning than weights or muscle mass gain

Maybe my diet is wrong. I could have even measured my waist incorrectly. Although I can see my middle area is less sticky outy and a bit flatter than it was a month ago

Every day I have got on scales for 2 weeks - 14st 10! Scales are brand new so it’s not the battery

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/07/2021 10:58

Please send some of your sunshine this way @poorpaws Grin

Hope everyone has a good day. AF time still here and feeling grim but trying to avoid nosediving into a big pile of chocolate...

poorpaws · 14/07/2021 14:06

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl its 23 degrees, it’s a bit hot! I daren’t complain cos I always complain when it’s wet and cold. 😅🥵

Yes, it's a scorcher here today too - I went for a walk along the beach with a friend and we shared a bag of chips and got ice cream Blush, but we walked for ages, so I feel like it all balances out.

I did a good workout yesterday, but then went out for dinner with some friends and had dessert. Hmm, food wise not so good this week. In my defence, I haven't seen people in ages and am starting to get invites again...and I don't want to be rude and say no.

Anyway, will have a healthy dinner and do a workout tomorrow.

poorpaws · 15/07/2021 07:46

Morning all

Another scorcher today! How are you all doing?

I’m trying to be exceptionally good this week with food because of my gain last week. I need 2 lbs. off at the very least this week to make up and I’m not going to accept anything less 🤞🏻

Have a good day everyone, it’s hard to do much in this heat. Keep trying hard 😀 Monday’s weigh-in will be here in no time.

Morning All,

Welcome back that sunshine! Summer is here for a bit and it feels amazing! I always find it slightly easier to be healthier when it's hot so let's hope this brings some positive results!

I am feeling a bit down today. Trying to sort out my return to work after maternity leave which is stirring up mixed emotions, and we were also looking at potentially rehoming a dog but have realised it won't be possible right now. We had a beautiful dog in mind and it breaks my heart to walk away. Anyway onwards and upwards. I hope today perks me up!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/07/2021 09:39

Morning all. It's been warm here all week. Or perhaps my recently prescribed HRT still needs further adjustments Grin.

I had a bad day on Tuesday. Was supposed to WFH, but ending up going in at no notice to cover sickness. So I didn't have lunch made, which meant I went out to get some, and you can guess the rest. I did try to get back to normal yesterday though. Reports of my foot injury recovery were sadly premature, so no proper exercise still, but have done a few school runs on foot, which is more than last week.

FunnyWonder · 15/07/2021 13:32

Hello all. I'm up and down at the moment. Not sticking to good choices as much as I should. This happens when my days lose their structure and I haven't planned ahead what, or even when, I'll be eating. I'm doing ok today though.

MIL let us have the patio furniture from her holiday home after our wooden set fell apart earlier in the year (and we can't seem to buy a table anywhere), so I REALLY want to sit outside with a glass of wine and some crisps and dips!! But I had a coffee and a small scone (flat as well because they didn't rise properly due to butter starting to melt straight out of the fridge!) The weather is glorious - something I rarely get to saySmileSmile

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 15/07/2021 17:19

Yeah I'm up and down this week also.

I'm blaming hormones and lack of sleep, hopefully I can pull it back by the end of the week, but today I'm just trying not to eat everything in sight! Also trying not to melt in the heat.

poorpaws · 15/07/2021 20:37

@VonWeasel I am so sorry about the dog you aren’t able to have now, it’s so sad. I have been constantly watching the rescue home where I got one of my dogs from. I’ve been haunting their homepage and Facebook page and every time I really liked one dog it seemed to go quickly. I had already checked the page at around 5 on Tuesday and checked it again at about 9 o’clock and there was a perfect dog for me. I could hardly sleep or breathe for that matter. I waited until after 9 am next day to ring up about her because I thought that was more polite and she’s already been reserved. I am totally devastated.

I rang again today to have a longer chat with the rescue owner. At the moment they are getting dogs from Ireland and they are going to try and find one to suit my family soon. I’ve been told to ring on Monday so I’m all excited again. Dogs have been my thing all my adult life. I’m sure you’ll find a perfect dog when the time is right for you.

Anyway sorry to go off the slimming subject. I’ve done well this week (still making up for the gain last week) but tomorrow I’m out on the moors again and there will be lunch and most likely ice cream. ☹️ I will try to do my best at damage limitation at lunch. I usually just push some of mine onto my OHs plate for which he is very grateful cos he is a skinny 🐷😳

We’ll be leaving early tomorrow so I won’t have time to post but I hope everyone has a lovely day in the sunshine. This sunshine really improves my mood.

FunnyWonder · 16/07/2021 08:48

I abandoned my run about three quarters of the way through this morning as I think I was well on my way to desiccation. The heat is unreal here and, while the Irish like to complain about the lack of sunshine, most of us start to shrivel up when the temperature tips over the 20 degree mark!

I have been eating more because I'm in a good mood with the sunshine! Feel good factor and all that. Go figure - if it was raining I'd be stuffing my face through boredomGrin. There's no way I've lost weight this week. I still have the overall urge to TRY and keep on track though, even if it's a bit of a struggle.

Have a good day everyone!

VenusStarr · 16/07/2021 09:16

Morning all. I have found this week OK, but been more hungry for some reason. I'm not going above my calories and trying to walk more but feeling low on energy. The heat predicted for the weekend won't help either! I'm not anticipating a loss on Monday but hoping no gain either 🤞

I had a real craving for a sausage sandwich yesterday, but have neither bread or sausages in the house and it's passed now.

Hope you're all OK

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/07/2021 10:08

Morning all - I have a horrible earache so no motivation here Sad I think it's from DS2, who had a cold last week, but not very helpful when it also makes me cough and sniffle! I'm testing every day and am Covid negative every time, just under the weather really.

@FunnyWonder I ran yesterday when it wasn't so hot - not sure how I'd cope today! Planning to go early Sunday instead to complete my last week 8 run.

@VonWeasel what a shame about your dog plans! Would you be able to volunteer to have a 'temporary' dog instead? Depends where you are in the UK I suppose (if you are in the UK - I don't know what they do in other countries!) but lots of charities advertise for help with dogs for a limited time. A friend used to volunteer for Guide Dogs to have dogs whilst their trainers were on holiday, for example! That might be more doable whilst you wait for an opportunity to have your own?

@poorpaws DP will eat any or all of my lunch if I let him - he's just a human hoover around leftovers - he seems to think the calories don't count Hmm

Well everyone, I have bought a wall chart for the holidays, partly so the DC know where they are and what they're doing every day and partly to keep me on the straight and narrow. Wish me luck!!

VonWeasel · 16/07/2021 11:07

Good Morning Everyone!

Today feels a much better day already and I have a spring in my step again. Thank goodness!!!

@FunnyWonder well done on the run in the heat. At least you have done your exercise for the day already so you can feel pleased with yourself, whilst safe in the knowledge that it is only going to get hotter!!!

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I am so sorry to hear that you are under the weather. That can't help with motivation levels but just try and be kind to yourself until you feel better. Thank you for your dog suggestions too and I will have a look.

@VenusStarr that's so interesting about the cravings you are having although it seems like fate has intervened and thwarted them in their tracks!!! I haven't really had any cravings yet and I think the lack of bad things to eat at home has helped, that said we did go out for a pub lunch the other day and I was tempted by dessert. It got me thinking about why more places don't offer you a mini dessert with a coffee option? I know Pizza Express do (or did, it's been a while since I have been) and I love the fact that you can treat yourself and have a mini dessert all to yourself (I mean who wants to share all of the time?!). I found that it really hits the spot and makes me happy!!! It seems like such a good idea.

@poorpaws I hope you enjoy your walk today and I am sorry to hear that you missed out on a dog too. They add such a special dimension to your life and I think that's what I am finding hard. Being made to wait for something that could bring so much happiness now!!!

So we have been out for a walk this morning and I have put on some shorts! New denim ones which I bought the other day as I realised that I haven't worn shorts or even owned a pair except exercise ones, for years. I mean probably a good 7 or 8 years!!! Next stop buying some jeans although slowly slowly. I don't think I will have lost any weight this week but I feel good within myself about my food choices and the exercise I have done.

Have a good day everyone.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/07/2021 14:38

You're right about the desserts @VonWeasel, it's such a good idea from Pizza Express! Ask Italian do it too but only have two choices. An Italian place near us also offers just amaretti biscuits with their coffee, I'd be happy with a handful of those

I have elasticated shorts from Asda Blush very handy though as they don't rub on my C section scar! And do have a look at the dog charities - it can be a bit niche depending on where you live, but for example the Autism Dogs need volunteers in Cheshire; too many miles from us otherwise I'd have done it.

Hope everyone is having a good day and not eating too much ice cream but it's understandable if you are!!

VonWeasel · 16/07/2021 16:37

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I just started looking at dessert menus. I am almost salivating Grin My black coffee minus a dessert, whilst sitting on the sofa will just have to do!!!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 16/07/2021 20:01

Curses. It's food tech Friday, when DC2 brings something home and I have to eat it because she's ten, and it would be terrible to say no when she's worked hard. Today was cheesecake. Sorry/not sorry.

poorpaws · 16/07/2021 21:58

@TheTurn0fTheScrew any leftover cheesecake I’ll gladly eat, it’s one of my favourites. Your life is so sad HAVING to eat cheesecake 😱😁

Morning all

Another glorious day here. I tried to be careful with lunch at the cafe yesterday but it is difficult. I gave my OH the large portion of coleslaw and the gorgeous home made chutney but the baguette was very big and I should have given him half of it but didn’t 🙄 the rest was ham (large portion) and salad so apart from the baguette I did ok and I said no to dessert and no ice cream later 😇 loads of people were having cream teas which looked lovely and I could have really enjoyed one but didn’t! So all in all I did quite well.

I did have to go to bed early last night before I ate the entire contents of every cupboard in the kitchen.

Hot again here and it always makes me lazy. Who wants to work in this heat.

It’s weekend yet again so I’m sure we’ll all be struggling with food but try not to give in to temptation. Not long to weigh-in.

Morning all :) a social weekend for me as I have friends visiting. Went out last night but stuck to alcohol free beer, going out for lunch today so will try to stick to the healthier menu options. I'm premenstrual so not sure I'll see a loss by Monday as I'm up a pound or so. But my friends did notice and comment on my weight loss which is gratifying.
