Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

sylv165 - thank you for the encouragement! I think we should count weeks where we stay the same while battling the bloat as victories!

Fruityfriday well done on sticking at WW. It's all about planning isn't it - when I don't have my fridge stocked, I mooch around the kitchen, which is always dangerous. You'll smash past 13 in no time. I've also learned that one meal/night out should not be allowed to spread into the following days (which was my normal)

Rousette Well done on your loss! The weather is dire here. The dog refused to go out, and she is usually mad for a walk. My new swimsuit is hopefully arriving today. That will be a reality check. No hiding ANYTHING in a cozzy! You know, I'd enjoy your week/ time away and not worry about your food - make the best choice you can at the time - it's not every week you get to spend time with loved ones, and it has been so so long since we had normal, fun times.

This morning I am 184lbs, so I think 4lbs off since I last posted a weigh-in here, and 48lbs down since mid-Jan. I want to get under 180 by the end of the month, but that is pushing it! It has slowed down a bit now.

Peachypips78 · 21/05/2021 10:23

Yes I miss family too- I haven't seen my mum and dad since Dec 2019 as they are in London and I am in Devon. Didn't see them in the sumner last year as dad is ECV, but now we've all been jabbed we are seeing them in a few weeks. I can't wait!

Well done for all your losses. After staying at 13st for ten days I have lost a pound yesterday and the day before and am now 12.12 which is amazing for me! Staying strong over the weekend as it seems to be helping my losses. My margins are small as I am short.

Bad weather here too but from Tues onwards it is looking good here. I'm tired of having a wet dog!

We are getting there everyone!

Onesmallstep67 · 21/05/2021 10:23

Well done everyone, sounds like a good Friday weigh in all round. Star
I'm logging a 1lb loss although it's probably slightly more. The aim now is to get below the next stone marker by the end of the month. Currently on 10lb loss in May.
Meeting a friend for lunch. I should really walk there and back but weather not looking great and the time may shift around a bit. I would need to have the car to collect my DD from school so weather, time and distance all putting me off but I'm making excuses aren't I ? Grin

Peachypips78 · 21/05/2021 10:28

Yes walk! You won't regret it I'm sure.

Roussette · 21/05/2021 12:35

Well my adult DD has put me through an exercise class, 30 mins of hardcore! I kept up as much as I can but wavered on the burpees and such like!
Best bit was the music... Earth Wind & Fire and Bee Gees!
I'm knackered!

Peachy well done on your 1lb loss, every pound counts. And Step the 1lb for you too!

sylv165 · 21/05/2021 18:05

Well done everyone! I'm also going to try and have a good weekend without alcohol as my husband is away and I have small kids so won't be able to get out for a run. Might try to do a workout in the house to make up for it.

Peachypips78 · 23/05/2021 18:53

Hey everyone. Made it through another weekend mostly on track bar a glass of wine.

Looking for 1 pound minimum this week- so 12st11 by next Mon hopefully. Chipping away.

How is everyone doing?

Roussette · 23/05/2021 19:02

Hi Peachy

Lovely (and probably fattening) meal out on Friday with lots of drinks, wine and G&T Shock
I did a long 5km walk yesterday and then last night was more wine while we watched Eurobash. So really not good.

So much wanted to do another walk today but it has not stopped raining all day.

However, back to it tomorrow, I need to get my focus back, I think it's the shit weather but I would love to sit with crisps or chocolate right now.... Shock
I will resist.

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 09:23

Send help!! I did a workout from YouTube yesterday and now I can't get up the stairs 😩

I was trying to make up for the wine I couldn't resist on Saturday. I was all set for a booze free weekend but then remembered I had a zoom party with friends to watch Eurovision. It would have been rude not to have wine, so I had the bottle. That was it though, so could be worse.

Missed most of W5 of c25k last week due to weather/childcare so starting again today, if my aching limbs allow it

Onesmallstep67 · 24/05/2021 09:59

Morning. @sylv165, oh dear, you have my sympathy 😅 I’m sure the wine was great but the workout maybe not so much!
I’ve had a rather mixed weekend and as a consequence I am 2lbs up from Friday weigh in. Looks like weekends are the challenge for most of us. Fingers crossed for a positive week. The sun is almost poking it’s head out here 😎

Roussette · 24/05/2021 10:01

but then remembered I had a zoom party with friends to watch Eurovision. It would have been rude not to have wine, so I had the bottle

There is no other way! my DH loves Eurobash (don't ask!) and in all the decades we've been together, we've never watched it without alcohol, I think it's actually impossible. We moved on to coffee and liquers found in the back of the cupboard after the wine...

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 10:08

@Roussette what is eurobash? I do love a bit of Eurovision myself, but I agree completely that watching sober would just be weird. Or more weird I should say. Gutted for Iceland though. Their wee jumpers!!!

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 10:11

Could be a tricky week ahead for me. I'm in NI and our pubs and restaurants are opening up today. I've not really been to anywhere outside yet because with the crappy weather it has just not been appealing, but I'm already planning dinner out on Thursday, and lunch with a friend on Wednesday. Will plan in advance what I'm going to eat to try and resist temptation!

Peachypips78 · 24/05/2021 10:56

Yes the shit weather is def not helping- I can't get out of going for a walk as I have a youngish dog so that forces me out in all weathers! Yesterday even my knickers were wet.

@sylv165 that's hilarious- help coming in form of deep heat! I think planning food in advance is def the way forward- I did that in Sat night and it didn't dim my enjoyment of the eve at all. Wanted more wine but that was about all I missed.

I think weekends are def the hardest. I am making sure I always do at least 15,000 steps every day to mitigate any slips.

2 pounds down today from last Monday which I am pleased with. Want a pound at least before next Mon.

Roussette · 24/05/2021 10:58

what is eurobash?

Oh sorry! It's a name that has stuck in our house since the days of Ireland Jonny Logan and Dana!

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/05/2021 12:36

God this weekend was an absolute car crash for me, I was hungover yesterday and I'm hungover today.

Eurovision is probably my favourite night of the year! Bloody great line up of songs this year too. The 2019 one was quite poor.

Man alive, I love my friends but I have to say I'm glad they're all gone. We're going to knuckle down for a few weeks and work hard to shift these final few kilos. NO ALCOHOL! Ugh.

It's my husband that's the problem with the booze though. When we're entertaining he'll just open bottle after bottle and I don't keep track. My glass keeps getting topped up and before I know it we've gone through gallons of the stuff and I'm hammered. He never gets hangovers, whereas I'll feel like shite now for three days.

He's a generous host, which is marvellous, but I keep saying he needs to take it easier. It's so easy to get carried away when everyone's having a good time though.

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 12:53

Ah @Roussette that makes sense, I thought I was missing some wonderful Eurovision extra that everyone else knew about!

@TheLeadbetterLife your DH sounds exactly like my stepdad. I never actually finish a glass, it is always just magically topped up without me even noticing. It is wonderful at the time and he is the best host, but he is a very bad influence! I hope you can reign him in a bit over the next few weeks to help you stay on track.

Roussette · 24/05/2021 13:08

It's my husband that's the problem with the booze though. When we're entertaining he'll just open bottle after bottle and I don't keep track

I think we share the same DH! Mine is a quiet man but have friends over and he is non stop opening bottles, and always the next morning there is a thimble full taken out of a red and white bottle which means they then have to be drunk!

It sounds like a fun night though Lead !

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/05/2021 13:27

It was a fun two nights, unforch... and I'm housing carbs and cheese today because I feel awful and I've got loads of work on. Whatever gets me through.

Oh well, back to healthy living tomorrow!

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 15:24

Well I surprised myself today. I went for my run despite the sore legs and it actually felt quite good. I planned on repeating W5R1 but once I started I felt I could keep on going so ended up running for 14mins, 2mins walk, then another 10mins running. I think having a bit of a break has helped as I was starting to find it a slog. Although tomorrow I might not be able to get out of bed, let alone get up the stairs!!

Roussette · 24/05/2021 15:34

Oh my! Well done. That is 24 minutes running!!
I haven't run for about 5 days Shock. And this morning I had intended to but it was torrential rain.

My body clock really only allows morning runs, I've never been that good at afternoon exercise.

I am hoping that it stops raining and I can go out first thing tomorrow.

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 17:49

I know @Roussette, I'm really quite proud of myself!!

Roussette · 24/05/2021 18:09

I'm not surprised!

I hope I manage wk4 when I run. Eeeek. Then I am away seeing adult DCs (cannot wait) on for a few days later this week so everything will go to pot although they are really into healthy food so maybe I can keep on track.

AnnieJ1985 · 24/05/2021 18:17

You guys are really inspiring me to try C25K. I've always felt too heavy to run up until now, but maybe I could manage it now I've shifted some weight.

Anyone recommend an app they use?

sylv165 · 24/05/2021 20:22

@AnnieJ1985 I just use the BBC app. I was really hesitant about it as I thought I would be too heavy, and built up very gradually walking every day, then running short "sprints" (so not real sprints!!) in my garden before I got the courage up to do it. But I've been really enjoying it.
