Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

I use the BBC one.
You can choose what famous person to spur you on!

I want to get to liking it like you sylv !

AnnieJ1985 · 24/05/2021 23:02

Thanks for the info. I don't think we can use BBC stuff here in Ireland; well I know we can't use the iplayer, so I figure it is the same for apps.

I will have a nosey

Roussette · 25/05/2021 07:31

Oh do... the app button is green with Couch to 5K on it (5K is in yellow).

I really should be doing a screenshot shouldn't I. Sorry!

Sun shining, the run beckons...

AnnieJ1985 · 25/05/2021 08:04

Rats....

I will find one on Spotify.
It will probably take me a week to download, a week to psyche myself up....

Defeated by fatness no more
Roussette · 25/05/2021 08:44

That's the one, that's a shame. There are others out there.

Just done the wk4 run and my god it nearly killed me. I found it really hard but as I've missed quite a few days, I am not the slightest surprised.

sylv165 · 25/05/2021 09:10

Well done for getting through it @Roussette ! I don't know why but I really struggled with week 4 too. Just feels like a big step up. Although after all my running yesterday I am staggered to find that I am NOT suddenly a size 8 this morning. Ridiculous.

Hope you find a suitable app @AnnieJ1985, how annoying but I'm sure there are plenty of others out there. And I'm sure they all cover the same ground.

Peachypips78 · 25/05/2021 09:52

Ooo can you get Tom Hardy to spur you on? That would get me sprinting 5k instantly!!

@sylv165 I always expect to be a size 8 after one day or dieting/exercising! Grin

Roussette · 25/05/2021 16:58

I had a dream the other night... this is seriously daft.

I dreampt I had a washboard concave young flat stomach. It was beautiful, like a polished stone. Honest, I was so excited by having this flat stomach, the dream was fantastic

Then I woke up Shock

sylv165 · 26/05/2021 09:24

Well @Roussette we might not be able to turn back time, but we can definitely aspire to flat! I think this week has gone a bit to pot though. My mum and stepdad are moving in with us for a month or so while they get work done on the house, so after spending time last night moving their things in we ended up getting a takeaway. And they have brought ALL the wine with them so temptation is all around!!

Roussette · 26/05/2021 10:36

I know about temptation!

Off up to see my DCs (can't wait) and it will be non stop eating and drinking.
Because of that, I'm going to weigh tomorrow, hopefully I've banked a loss to cope with the carousing!

Onesmallstep67 · 26/05/2021 10:46

Have a great trip roussette. I'm sure a few extra calories won't undo your consistent hard work. Gin Cake
I'm still up from my lowest weight. Think I may be pre menstrual. My periods have come and gone so many times in the last couple of years but seem to be back for the moment, no idea why.
Well done those of you getting out on the runs. Weather finally seems a bit brighter here so that may spur me on to a few walks.

sylv165 · 26/05/2021 12:57

Guess what?? I just ran for 26 mins without stopping! I'm not even home yet but had to tell someone who would appreciate the achievement 🤣

Enjoy your trip @Roussette. I would agree that you should just enjoy yourself- the trick will be getting back on it as soon as you are home!

Roussette · 26/05/2021 13:02

OMG! That is astounding!
Seriously!

I cannot imagine getting there! I walked today and now running won't happen till Monday, but I am putting my trainers in the car just in case I can do it in London!

Seriously though, that is inspirational!
Was it hard? Did it seem to go on forever because 5mins seems like forever for me!
And please tell me it was a slow jog?!

sylv165 · 26/05/2021 13:18

I wouldn't say it was easy...but it didn't feel that hard either. I was supposed to be doing w5r2. I usually run my 5mins warm up anyway (because I live at the top of a hill and it is an easy jog down) then after that plus the first 8min run session I felt ok so decided to just keep going for as long as I could. Oh and most definitely a slow jog, very very slow in some parts as I slowed down rather than start walking.

I think you'll get there. I don't know what it is about week 4 - I think it is maybe that it is a big step up but the run sessions still aren't long enough to forget about the clock. I think that was the benefit today - instead of obsessing about how many mins I had left on the app I just forgot about it and was thinking of other things.

Roussette · 26/05/2021 15:36

Once I start again, I'm going to try that. I think I concentrate too hard on finding it hard!

Peachypips78 · 27/05/2021 08:59

That's amazing @sylv165 - well done. I'm really hoping I can run again one day.

12.11 this morning! I can't believe it after staying at 13 for ages. It's finally clicking into place for me. I'm the lightest I've been in a few years. Really looking forward to bring able to fit into my nice clothes in about 11 pounds time...

Onesmallstep67 · 27/05/2021 10:07

Well done @Peachypips78, that must feel fantastic after being on a bit of a plateau. Seeing the numbers go down is such a motivator.
@sylv165, that's brilliant, you must be on a high knowing that you are able to maintain the running now.
I'm edging back down to my lowest May weight but at best I will be STS tomorrow- having been +3lbs at one point this week. New check in point will be end of month on Tuesday and what I start with on the scales for June.
Keep on keeping on !

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/05/2021 11:05

I’m so impressed with all the running slyv, I can’t run for toffee. It must feel fantastic.

Brilliant news on the loss peachy, it always feels good to get past a plateau like that.

I think I’ve managed to get past the recent decadence with not much harm done, so now we know - there’s no bloody wagon!

I have a “thin” dream from time to time Roussette, though mostly my dreams are either anxiety nightmares or weird sex dreams about someone off the telly or a podcaster or something. People have hadn’t even thought twice about until I had a saucy dream about them. Today it’s Matt Forde.

Anyway, weigh in day for me:

77kg (that’s another kilo down)
25.4 BMI (so close!)
87cm waist (another cm off)

Pretty pleased with that. I want to get to my target weight (74kg) by the end of June.

sylv165 · 27/05/2021 11:19

Well done @Peachypips78! The hat must be such a good feeling!! I've stayed the same so far this week so not expecting much tomorrow, especially as I am going out for dinner tonight. I'm so bloody excited about getting back to real life that I am refusing to spend my time sipping tap water and riding a starter sized meal. Cocktails and chips all the way - just hoping it doesn't do too much damage.

sylv165 · 27/05/2021 11:20

That must be such a good feeling, not the hat! I've never been able to pull off a hat...

AnnieJ1985 · 27/05/2021 11:22

Morning - the sun is shining, such a novelty!

sylv165 that is super running - as predicted I downloaded an app, but haven't got any further 😂
Roussette I hope you are having a fantastic time.
Peachypips78 I haven't been 12stone anything in I'd say 10+ years. I am really hoping to hit it soon! It's a milestone for me, to be smallest in over a decade.
Onesmallstep67 a STS would be a good result after being up a few pounds mid-week - I'd take that!
TheLeadbetterLife I think it is sometimes the fear of the scales after a few days "off plan" that sends me haywire. If I just face it, it normally isn't as bad as it could be. Well done on the kilo off!

I got my period today, so that will impact the scales tomorrow I reckon. Drinking a load of water to try to shift some of the bloat before the morning. I was aiming for 180 or lower by Monday (from 184 last week 😂) I wasn't allowing for PMS though! It makes me swell up, so now I'll be happy with a STS. Have visitors coming this weekend who last saw me 3.5 stone heavier at Christmas, so it will be nice to see their reaction. I don't notice it day-to-day myself, although I did have to buy new pyjamas last week - my old ones are too big now and wrap around me in my sleep, which is very annoying!

AnnieJ1985 · 27/05/2021 11:23

X post sylv - you are damn right to enjoy yourself!

I also can't wear hats...

sylv165 · 27/05/2021 11:52

I can assure you all that I will also not be "riding" a starter sized meal...really must spell check before I post 😳🤣.

@AnnieJ1985 sure you're one step closer by downloading the app!!

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/05/2021 14:04

Well I just cycled 8km back from dropping off my car at the mechanic, in 26 degree heat in the middle of the day.

I'm sure I'm not actually having a heart attack, but christ...

Doesn't help that my bike weighs a ton (it's an old-fashioned, steel town bike with a basket on the front) and I was cycling into wind.

It's weird how fitness can be activity specific, isn't it? I can go for hours shovelling gravel or compost in the heat, but a short bike ride and I'm clobbered.

Roussette · 28/05/2021 08:00

Hi all, you're inspiring and I'm just checking in in the hope I stay on track a little bit!
Weighed a day early (yesterday) because we were off on our jaunt and had lost just 0.5lb which I was a bit disappointed with hey ho

Last night was cocktails and meal out but I did choose the healthy option main course to have with the red wine

2 more days of carousing coming up but DCs assure me there's some very long walks coming up to counteract it all!

I want a thin and sexy dream again!

Excuse mistypes am on phone
