Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

Hi all!

Well done @Roussette for breaking the barrier. I have gone up to 13 st again for the last two days for absolutely no reason at all. Sticking with it regardless and hoping for a drop over the Wednesday. I am now just doing a pound ish a week - it's depressingly slow. @Fruityfriday you are catching us up!

Those recipes look lovely. I love aubergine too and chilli and garlic prawns sound like heaven.

@sylv165 and @Onesmallstep67 4 is amazing! Well done. I have to weigh in Mondays or I go bonkers at the weekend. But I weigh every day anyway as it helps me stay on track.

I want 10 st 7- I am 5'3 but very muscular and have massive boobs so I look slim at that weight. I have lovely clothes that will fit in a stone's time so from then on will at least feel better about myself.

I think we are doing really well- maybe we are not defeated by fatness. Hoping the OP will come back sometime and not feel depressed about it all.

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/05/2021 17:27

I hope OP comes back too - she inspired us all! I hope you’re doing okay OP.

Roussette · 15/05/2021 20:28

@Peachypips78

Not sure I'm doing that well this weekend, drinks at NDN's and me shovelling in crisps like there was no tomorrow!

And two nights of drinks (last night and tonight)

BUT I'm not giving up... I will reset everything tomorrow!

sylv165 · 15/05/2021 21:46

I'm with you @Roussette, takeaway and wine tonight. Trying to feel virtuous because I didn't have rice with my curry but the fact that I am washing it down with Prosecco cancels that out a bit. But I did run today and will be back on it tomorrow.

Peachypips78 · 15/05/2021 22:04

Yes @TheLeadbetterLife yes she did.

I have stuck to my cals but I'm bloody starving this eve. I better be back to under 13 tmrw.

Roussette · 15/05/2021 22:26

Fingers x'd Peachy!

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/05/2021 22:34

Well we went out to a restaurant with friends last night, got pissed, though I only had one slice of bread with my clams (very restrained), three chips off other people’s plates and a few bites of the shared puddings. Otherwise i had a lot of olives, octopus salad, clams and dourada with broccoli and carrots.

And a martini, three glasses of wine, a port and a tot of brandy. Oops.

Still, managed to get up early and do an 8km hike in the blazing heat this morning, plus a load of gardening, so hopefully that made up for it. It got to 30 degrees today, so it was hard work.

We’re having a curry feast tomorrow by way of a late Eid (one of our guests is Muslim), as my neighbour gave us a whole kid this morning (as in, a baby goat). I will have a naan bread, because my husband makes fabulous naan, but I won’t have any rice. I’ll lay off the booze too, as I feel like shite today.

I think I’m going to do five days of 800 calories next week to make up for the feasting, as I have more friends here next weekend and they’ll want to carouse too.

4kg to go to my target weight! It’s so hard when you have visitors. Still, I can make up for it in June if necessary.

sylv165 · 16/05/2021 08:14

@TheLeadbetterLife that sounds like an amazing weekend! Where are you? Definitely nowhere near me because we seem permanently stuck with 12 degrees and drizzle!

Roussette · 16/05/2021 08:16

Lead your meal last night sounds yummy, just my sort of food! Along with the martini, wine etc!

Weekends are my achilles heel big time, last night we had steak and red wine, but no more alcohol for me until next weekend Grin

I am repeating wk4 of C25k and lumbered around doing that yesterday.

Fruityfriday · 16/05/2021 08:43

Well my Chinese was lovely but I stuffed myself and had 4 glasses of wine 🐖🐷. So the great reset starts today x

Fruityfriday · 16/05/2021 08:44

I need to be under 13 on Friday x

TheLeadbetterLife · 16/05/2021 08:53

I live in Portugal, we’re Brexit refugees! Unsurprisingly, we get a lot of visitors...

sylv165 · 16/05/2021 09:33

Portugal - you're on the green list! Send me your address, I'm booking my flight 🤣

@Fruityfriday fingers crossed for the reset week! I just can't resist at weekends and would rather stick to losing 1lb a week without having to give that up. But trying to make little gestures so it doesn't feel as bad - I had Indian takeaway last night but had it with 30g brown rice. And I did have wine with it, but didn't have a pre dinner gin. Baby steps 🤦‍♀️

Roussette · 16/05/2021 09:56

I agree on the little gestures, and often have a G&T instead of an extra wine!

In all seriousness, I am still doing my weekend as normal as possible because DH and I have a lovely meal on a Friday/Saturday and a Sunday lunch and I don't want to give that up. However, I've tweaked it a lot. Less salad dressing by far, two miniscule new potatoes instead of a pile of roast potatoes, that type of thing.

Peachypips78 · 16/05/2021 18:21

Yes no sun here either in Devon- torrential rain all day with no break. Walked the dog and even my knickers were wet.

I think small steps are good- it's a life change after all when you burn the wagon.

13 st 0 still yawn.

Onesmallstep67 · 17/05/2021 09:27

Morning everyone, hope you had a lovely weekend. I have amazingly STS with my weight from the Friday check in despite Irish soda bread, alcohol, takeaway and chocolate- although it was all in moderation and at other times I wasn't over eating. Back to my 16:8 routine today.
hoping to shift 5lbs in the next 2 weeks to hit 1 stone loss this month or 3lbs to get me back under the next stone barrier. I have significantly more to lose than many of you.
Wish the weather would perk up. I have lots of gardening that needs to be done. and just in general it's more likely I will get out for a proper walk if the weather is decent.

Roussette · 17/05/2021 12:01

Morning all!

I am going to be really careful this week too, although one of the DCs is coming home (can't wait haven't seen her since Christmas!) and we cook and drink together which is going to be tricky!

Agree onesmallstep if only the weather would improve. I want to turn out the garage but it's too cold, and gardening and stuff too. I'm still in double fleece!

I did the 5th wk4 run today (repeating wk4) and it was the hardest of all ! I really struggled. I am hoping it's because I was a bit restless sleeping last night, and the accumulative effect of a drink on the weekend.
If not, I'm going backwards!

Harpydragon · 17/05/2021 12:41

Morning

I put 2lbs on last week, but I'm not unhappy with that, had an operation and w my sons birthday!

I'm back on it now and hoping for a good loss this week. Need to start thinking about exercise soon, but just to cold at the moment.

Glad to hear everyone is Keeeping on, keeping on!

Peachypips78 · 17/05/2021 13:37

Hi all.

Well done for sts @Onesmallstep67 - I think moderation rather than forbidding foods is really beneficial if we are making long term changes. I'm sure you'll get the 5 pounds.

I am being careful this week too- weighing everything etc so I am absolutely certain I am at 1800. Mainly because I am sick of staying at 13st when I am staying with the programme. Although I would only be going over by a couple of hundred max so it shouldn't make that much difference. Maybe I'm due a whoosh.

Does anyone else use their Fitbit for calories in-calories out? I wonder if the cals I burn is a bit high on there so I'm not getting enough of a deficit.

TheLeadbetterLife · 17/05/2021 14:10

Personally I never deduct calories from exercise - the apps can’t possibly know how much we’re really burning. I just see any additional reduction from exercise as a bonus, rather than a way to add to the calories I’m eating.

I’ve not been counting calories that much - I find smaller portions, lower carb and intermittent fasting has been enough. I’m going to stick to under 800 calories on every day that I can for the next two or three weeks though, as with all the visitors we’re having too many days of food and drink-based fun.

Roussette · 17/05/2021 14:13

I add manually on MFP any exercise I've done, but to be honest I think they rate it rather high. So I try to ignore it, even if I log it, I just do it to give me some sort of push to walk or run.

I am sort of 1,000 calories to 1,100 and can't seem to get it lower. 2 cups of tea and 2 cups of coffee a day are 205 calories for starters! And I have to have them, or life won't be worth living!

Peachypips78 · 17/05/2021 16:01

I worked out my tdee then subtracted 500 ish. Maybe I need to drop to 1,700...

Fruityfriday · 17/05/2021 16:24

I've rejoined WW. It's worked in the past and I need the accountability. And I can save my points for weekend wine and meals out. I think I need the focus because I'm just rubbish doing it on my own.

sylv165 · 17/05/2021 18:22

I have a new incentive for losing weight. Got passport photos taken today to renew my driving licence and my face is just enormous. Absolutely massive. I was well aware of the size of my hips, arse and belly but hadn't realised that my face was in danger of developing its own solar system. Here's hoping that this time next year I'll look so different that I won't be able to rely on my driving licence for photographic identity lol.

Roussette · 17/05/2021 18:49

Oh don't!

I'm waiting for mine to expire to replace the horror that stares at me. As if 10 years on it's going to be any better! It's not.
