Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

I'm up a pound but been very good and my period is 4 days late, so hoping it's just that! Though I must say I feel very unbloated, so at least I feel thinner Grin

Roussette · 13/05/2021 11:28

Think I'll switch my weighing day to Friday so that if I do have a bad weekend I have a while to pull it back, rather than seeing a demoralising result on the scales

sylv that is exactly what I do. Weekends aren't brilliant, I know that, but I am good with it all during the week.
Weigh in for me tomorrow, it better be below the nasty 13! Peachy well done, you've broken the barrier!

Onesmallsep thanks for the recommendation on the book, will look into that. Because I am getting bored of what I am cooking I miss my old food, won't pretend otherwise There's only so much salmon in foil with vegetables I can eat!

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/05/2021 12:04

Today's my weigh in day, I'm down another half kilo, so currently at:

78kg (12 stone 4 in old money)
BMI: 25.76

I've entered my waist measurement as stayed the same in my Health app, even though I don't know if it has, because I forgot to take it before having two coffees this morning, which has filled my stomach a bit. Also I'm on my period so there may be bloating.

Still a slow loss, but I've been doing a LOT of exercise this week and I definitely look more toned, so I'm happy with that. I need to build muscle, as I've most likely lost some over the course of this diet.

As I'm so close to my target now I'm more concerned with adjusting my metabolism so the weight stays off, than rapid continued loss. Having read that "Why We Eat Too Much" book I'm worried that my body will adjust and just put all the weight back on again. I've put all the provisions from the book into place, so hopefully that won't happen.

My ultimate goal is 75kg, and I never want to go above that again!

sylv165 · 13/05/2021 12:55

Thanks @Roussette - I had hoped that the prospect of a Monday weigh in would incentivise me to be good at the weekend but its not really working out that way!

Are you doing low carb? I have found some of the Second Nature recipes really nice. This week we have had butter chicken with broccoli, chicken fajita bake, cajun salmon with salsa, bang bang shrimp, naked fish and carrot chips. Tonight we're going to try the prawn and pineapple skewers.

@TheLeadbetterLife sounds like you are really focused and doing everything right. I need to channel some of your discipline!

Roussette · 13/05/2021 13:10

sylv I'm really not sure what I'm doing! Your meal plan sounds yummy. I am going to go and look at them and load them up into MFP, along with some from onesmallsteps book.

I have been doing chicken skewers a bit and they've been good so need to vary them a bit and carry on with those. I've cooked them in my panini maker and also on a Le Creuset griddle on the hob... the griddle wins out as far as charred taste.

sylv165 · 13/05/2021 14:00

Here's a link to some of their recipes for a little inspiration

Roussette · 13/05/2021 16:05

Thank you! They look delicious

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/05/2021 19:46

One of my favourite pre-diet recipes was spaghetti with prawns, chilli and garlic. I now make it with courgetti instead. I was sceptical of courgetti, but I don't miss the pasta actually - turns out the salty, garlicky, chilli butter sauce is what makes the dish addictive.

We also do chicken satay with peanut sauce regularly, and papoutsakia, which is bloody delicious:

www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/melitzanes-papoutsakia-eggplants-with-meat-sauce-and-mashed-potatoes/

I don't make the mashed potato version. It's baked aubergine halves with a beef or lamb ragu and béchamel sauce. A low carb moussaka / lasagne alternative really.

Roussette · 13/05/2021 20:08

Oooh that recipe looks delish. I love aubergine.

Roussette · 14/05/2021 08:17

Weekly weigh in and I've broken the 13st barrier, hoooooray!
12st 12.5lbs, so that's 1.5lbs down.
Now gotta stay there and not celebrate Grin

sylv165 · 14/05/2021 08:55

Brilliant @Roussette! I am 4lbs down on Monday, so lost those 3 pesky weekend lbs plus one extra. I like Friday weigh ins!

Roussette · 14/05/2021 09:06

Wooohooo... thank goodness for that, the 3 pesky ones gone plus another!

Onesmallstep67 · 14/05/2021 09:39

Hey, well done @Roussette and @sylv165, that's a great result for both of you. You must be delighted. I think maybe I should introduce a Friday official check in too. I will check the app on my phone for the weight I recorded last Friday... so for me that's - 4lb from last Friday and -9lb overall now. I will share my weight when I am feeling a bit braver !
Thanks for the recipe ideas and websites that people have shared. There's some great ideas there. Half the battle is making sure you don't feel deprived and are eating tasty food.
I had 2 sweets last night and the sugar hit had me immediately craving more. I don't know enough of the science of low carbing + helping moderate insulin production etc but clearly when my body got a taste of what it 'liked' there was an automatic response. I loathe diet bores so trying desperately to not turn into one but so far IF and lower carb seems to be working.
Here's to a great weekend everyone. Wish the weather would perk up, decidedly chilly in my house.

Roussette · 14/05/2021 09:42

Wowser! -4lb is fantastic! Well done!

I wish I could move on a bit from -1 or -1.5 and I'm not sure if any of you know MFP, but when you log your days calories it shows you what can be anticipated in 5 weeks time if you carried on like that day.
And I think... oh hell, 5 weeks... is that ALL????

Fruityfriday · 14/05/2021 09:57

Hopped on the scales after being so good and weighed 2lb more than yesterday but 3lb less than Sunday so I. 13'2. Scales are now in my wardrobe so no more weighing for a week. I have friends and a Chinese this weekend but will not overdo it on snacks etc. I'm having wine but no more than one bottle (instead of my normal 2-3) x well done all!!!

Roussette · 14/05/2021 10:50

Minus 1 is good! That's been me more or less the whole time with an occasional nice surprise of an extra half a pound!

I have drinks and nibbles in a NDN garden tonight. I am hoping the shivering will burn off some calories!

And I am drinking wine too! I have managed to stop alcohol on 5 days of the week, (I used to have one alcoholic drink every week night) We need to have some pleasures!

Keep it up everyone Smile

Roussette · 14/05/2021 10:51

When I say I used to... I mean, I don't any more, so the pleasures are on a Friday/Saturday.

sylv165 · 14/05/2021 10:56

Sounds like good results all round today. I know 1lb per week isn't much and can feel frustrating. But if i lose 1lb per month I could be into the 8st bracket and normal BMI by October...I can dream anyway!! Currently 10st8lbs with a BMI of 29 as I am very short.

Roussette · 14/05/2021 11:03

Just worked out... that to get to where I want to be (slightly unrealistic but still....) it will be end of November if I carry on 1lb a week.

One can dream....

Fruityfriday · 14/05/2021 11:12

I want 10 stone but 10.7 would really be ok as I was that at 23yrs and looks fantastic (I thought I was fat)

sylv165 · 14/05/2021 11:15

@Fruityfriday I wish I could go back in time and give my younger self a good talking to. 10 years ago I weighed 8st exactly, was really fit and toned, yet still thought I was fat. Honestly, I was a moron

Roussette · 14/05/2021 11:21

I would love to be 10st10lbs if I could ever get there.

When I lost 5 stone 15 years ago I went down to 9st9 and I looked seriously awful. My face was drawn and I was not a natural weight. I have to be realistic because the older you get it does show in your face.

I was talking on the Sewing Bee thread about a pair of sugar pink skin tight dungarees I had when I was late teen/early 20s and I thought I was fat!

Fruityfriday · 14/05/2021 11:26

I won't even need new clothes as have amazing ones all in a size 12 x

Roussette · 14/05/2021 11:50

Me too! I have some clothes, in fact lots of clothes that I love that will look better without this extra couple of stones.
That's all I want, to wear what I've got comfortably.

sylv165 · 14/05/2021 13:08

To be fair @Roussette I'm not sure skin tight sugar pink dungarees would do anyone any favours!! Love a bit of sewing bee - last series inspired me to buy a sewing machine, which is still gathering dust under the stairs!

I'll definitely need to buy some new clothes as I gave up on all my smaller stuff a couple of years ago and threw them away. An excuse for a massive clothes shop is an extra incentive!
