Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

I turned down the cambazola by having another glass of red wine Blush 🤣

sylv165 · 10/05/2021 08:20

Well despite thinking I'd been reasonably good over the weekend, I have put in 3lbs since Friday 😩😭

Roussette · 10/05/2021 08:32

sylv that could be water retention or something? Have you thought of weighing just once a week at the same time. I cannot bear to weigh more regularly because I know if I go up, it will affect me mentally, and possibly throw me off course.

Also, just once a week means - to me - I'm in it for the long haul.

I sound like I know what I'm talking about, I really don't! It's just what works for me.

Onesmallstep67 · 10/05/2021 09:10

Morning everyone. Hope you all enjoyed the weekend. How frustrating Sylv, it's such a pain when you think you have been doing everything as well as you can and the numbers don't add up. I've been in that situation many times. It's probably a temporary blip. Hopefully your body will catch up with itself in the next day or two. My weight gain/loss related to making a significant effort or overeating rarely appears the next day and takes a day or two to manifest itself.
I've hit my first half stone loss but I have fluctuated with this 7lbs+/- since Christmas. So looking for a further drop to feel like I am actually making progress getting rid of my 2 stone 2020 regain. I'm trying to stick to 16:8 and reducing carbs, although not obsessively. I must start doing some form of exercise although I am really not built for anything strenuous. I would certainly struggle with C25K.
Have a great Monday.

sylv165 · 10/05/2021 09:46

Thanks @Roussette and @Onesmallstep67, I'm sure it is just a little blip but it does feel very frustrating. But luckily it doesn't make me feel like I want to throw the whole thing away completely. I'll have to have a think about whether I want to give up alcohol completely for a while. I really enjoy a few glasses of wine at the weekend and thought maybe if I just moderate it a bit that would be enough. But I fear that just looking at a glass of wine can make my weight increase.

myfuckingfreezer · 10/05/2021 09:53

Morning all. I weighed in with a 3 pound loss this week, so happy with that.

My original 4 stone loss got me down to 168pounds in July 2020. Aiming to get back there by end of June. From a starting point of:
26/4/21 - 190 pounds
3/05/21 - 186 pounds
10/5/21 - 183 pounds

Roussette · 10/05/2021 10:51

Woohooo well done freezer

3lbs is fantastic!

I guess red wine has less cals that cambazola!

@sylv165 it won't be real weight unless you ate 9,000 additional cals this weekend- it will be back down in the next couple of days.

Well done @Onesmallstep67 - getting there! @myfuckingfreezer that's amazing progress.

My extra pound has gone and I'm 13.1. Will I EVER get to 12!!!

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/05/2021 15:43

Hello everyone, I hope you all had nice weekends. Congratulations on the losses - sterling work.

onesmallstep running isn't for everyone - I cannot bear it. It's quite bad for the joints in any case. I do HIIT, swimming and yoga. Walking is considered to be as good as running if you can do at least twenty minutes of it at a pace to get out of breath anyway.

Has anyone on this thread read Why We Eat (Too Much) by Dr Andrew Jenkinson? I read it this weekend and it's absolutely eye opening. I really recommend it to anyone who keeps putting the weight back on after a diet. He explains why this happens and why diets don't really work. There's also a plan to explain what does work and how to do it. Very interesting stuff, I'm going to implement at lot of the changes (I was doing many of them already) as of today.

Morning all. Hit new low today of 13.0. Nearly in the 12s! Hopefully in next couple of days.

I agree re running- I love it, but whenever I go more than a couple of times a week I injure myself and then can't do anything else. I've given up until I'm a tiny little bit of a thing

Book sounds good @TheLeadbetterLife - I'll have look.

Onesmallstep67 · 11/05/2021 10:42

Morning. Well done @Peachypips78, hitting a new low is a great feeling. and tipping over into a new stone bracket is so close !
I know my limitations regarding running, certainly at the weight that I am it would be madness. I have a basic exercise bike in the house and a leisure centre literally 100m away ! Just need to find the motivation.
STS this morning with my weight. Aiming to lose a kg a week if possible in this initial phase. I have a family party - fingers crossed etc- in the middle of August. If I really stick with it I can be back to my pre March 2020 weight by then. I like targets - until I don't hit them Grin

myfuckingfreezer · 11/05/2021 10:51

onesmallstep

I'm not sure how much you weigh and of course running isn't for everyone regardless. But just wanted to say that I started running at 16 stone and found it ok. Doing C25K helped me build up so my joints weren't too shocked Grin

sylv165 · 11/05/2021 11:33

Yes I did a bit of a gradual build up to c25k, starting with walking every day, then doing some sprints (sort of anyway, my "sprints" are a normal person's light jog) up a little incline at the side of my house, before I finally ventured out in public! I am really enjoying the headspace it gives me - no one shouting "mummy!!!!" at me for 30 whole minutes!

I'm over my weight gain grump from yesterday, so onwards and upwards (downwards?) in the hope of shifting a few lbs this week!

Roussette · 11/05/2021 18:48

I went out at 8am this morning doing R2 wk4, it nearly killed me! I go early so no one sees me Grin

Then my lovely neighbour who is just gobsmackingly beautiful came over collecting, and she has lost 2 stone and has got into running big time. She said... we could go running together and I told her to piss off! (We do talk like this with each other!) She is not far off 30 years younger than me and if she thinks me the elephant is running next to a beautiful gazelle like her, she needs to think again!

sylv165 · 11/05/2021 21:35

W4 definitely feels like a big jump! I guess it is the longer run sessions plus the longer overall time. But no pain no gain 💪

Onesmallstep67 · 12/05/2021 09:40

I'm in the Midlands and the weather here has been so changeable it's almost impossible to plan to get out at a certain time for a walk or run Hmm but I have a prescription to pick up today so hoping to find a clear 40 mins to walk there and back.
Another lb off so now - 8lbs from my post lockdown highest. I've stuck to 16:8 every day for the last 8 days but I have eaten well. The revelation for me has been how little I am craving anything or snacking. I feel bearably hungry at times but not to the point where I want to go and demolish half a crusty loaf and a tub of butter. I imagine there will be times like that but as we have agreed, accept it happens, sweep up the crumbs and move on.

Roussette · 12/05/2021 13:31

Well done on another lb onesmallstep

I'm finding it tricky thinking what to have for dinner because really I'm changing my whole way of eating. And my reportoire of meal ideas is sadly lacking!

Walked for an hour today and it was a really lovely walk.

My DD suggested I measure myself too, she ways that I will see more change on inches than on lbs. No idea if that is right or not. Anyway I went for it... it was a bit like measuring a bowling ball and a bit shocking!

AnnieJ1985 · 12/05/2021 22:16

Well done Onesmallstep, keep chipping away.

I am so impressed by all your running and jogging. I can't run the length of myself. I am out walking a lot though.

I didn't lose anything last week, but I had been picking at extras in between meals a bit, so have gone back to basics this week and hope for a loss on Friday.

Fruityfriday · 13/05/2021 07:39

I'm back after the period from hell and associated chocolate and pringles last weekend. I'm 13 bang on today. (Went up to 13'5 on Sunday with water weight and bloating ) I still have 6 weeks to get to 12 for my birthday So I have to loose approx 2.3 lbs a week from now on. It will be a challenge.

Peachypips78 · 13/05/2021 08:57

Morning all- well done! Great re some losses and running.

@Roussette you will be a gazelle in no time

I DID IT finally- 12st 13.8 so only just but finally there. You can do it @Fruityfriday!

Fruityfriday · 13/05/2021 09:20

@Peachypips78 I blooming well hope so. I'm having a Chinese on Saturday might and wine. But it's one meal, I will get there.

sylv165 · 13/05/2021 09:32

@Peachypips78 yey!! That must feel so satisfying.

My weight gain must have just been bloating because I sneakily weighed this morning and I have gone back to normal. Think I'll switch my weighing day to Friday so that if I do have a bad weekend I have a while to pull it back, rather than seeing a demoralising result on the scales

Onesmallstep67 · 13/05/2021 10:34

@Peachypips78, woohoo ! Always a fantastic feeling to break through the next stone down barrier.
Smidgen down here this morning, all going in the right direction and generally feeling pretty 'on it' which is more than half the battle as far as I am concerned.
Not sure if you are low carbing or calorie counting Roussette but my daughters bought me a 'Pinch of Nom' book a few months back and there are some great recipes in there, most of which you seem to also be able access on the internet. I also bought a keto recipe book recommended on another MN thread but not tried any so far. I'm not really trying for keto and of course the recipes are very calorific, heavy on the fat etc. I guess if you are cooking for DH too it's finding a suitable balance that works for both of you.
