Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

Thanks Roussette - impossible for me to keep up the losing a lb a day - if only haha ! so it’ll be interesting to see how I respond when things slow up. I am also a lot heavier than many of you going by the weights that you have shared. I’d be delighted to get to 13st !!

Peachypips78 · 08/05/2021 10:44

I agree @Roussette - dwelling leads to saying sod it for the whole weekend! You prob only went a few hundred cals over your TDEE so it won't make much difference. To put on a pound you'd have had to have eaten 3,000 extra cals...

Pouring with rain here too but have to walk the dog so onwards and upwards.

Was still 13.1 this morning despite being strict, but experience tells me that I have a few days' plateau every few days.

Well done everyone for your losses.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 11:01

Yes, yes... it's a case of... move on, stick to the plan and forget it.

I have a slow metabolism and I think... if I've been really good with the calories, it doesn't show immediately, it takes days for my body to register that. And maybe it's the same for you Peachy?

myfuckingfreezer · 08/05/2021 11:41

Weighed in at 182.4 today. Another 0.4 pounds and I'll be in the 12s again! Motivation to be god and go out for a run today

Harpydragon · 08/05/2021 13:01

Sorry not been on for a couple of days, I lost 2.4 lbs last week, but have been eating rubbish since because I had a carpal tunnel release operation on my right hand. I have been starving ever since and just wanting to eat crap

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 08/05/2021 15:29

2.8lb down this week. Happy with that for a second week. I’m out for a pub dinner with friends tonight. Will stick to one course and one wine, but I’m not restricting what I choose from the menu as a main course. Think it’s mostly gourmet burgers there but, living according to the ‘burn the wagon’ strategy, I’m going to enjoy it and then eat well the rest of the week. In the past I’ve often been a diet martyr if (rare) events coincide with a zealous phase... and that just makes me feel hard done by. Not sustainable.

I’ve also just ordered some lovely new yellow sandals. I’m not keen to invest too much in clothes but my shoe size won’t change and they will give me a lift 👍🏻 Also, my feet got bigger following my last pregnancy (actually longer, not simply fatter - my toes overhang my old sandals now!) so I don’t have much summer footwear. We will eventually have summer weather, won’t we??!!??!!

Roussette · 08/05/2021 15:51

Harpy Ouch! I have no idea what a carpal release is, but imagine it is painful

And HalfWoman very well done on the 2.8lb, that is amazing!

Hi, I have just caught up on this thread. I have done hundreds of diets on and off since I was 12 (37) now. I am supposed to be having back surgery in June but I have to get to 80kg first. I was 91kg when I was given this target mid April and am now 86kg. I am not sure what I am doing; I have VLCD shakes, I have been calorie counting (800-1000), I have Orlistat that I don’t take. I am so confused with it all and just want this bloody op so I can have some respite from the pain and so I can stop taking all this medication. I walk as much as I can (which isn’t much) and my short stature is not in my favour when it comes to my BMI. I get so down when ‘dieting’ I have a sweet tooth and I am fussy with veg/salad. I don’t drink alcohol and I have been fasting on and off for the past 3 years. I try and do at least 16 hours a day but usually get 20. I have had enough with it all and have decided that I am going to carry on my fasting and eat only natural foods. Meat, butter, cheese, eggs, vegetables, milk, nuts, rice, natural yogurt, berries, honey etc. No pasta or bread, nothing sugary or refined. I just panic when I get on the scales and they haven’t moved that they are going to cancel the op.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 19:22

WetEcho it's so depressing isn't it.... when you are changing everything and working hard at it. Good luck.

sylv165 · 09/05/2021 11:15

Well ups and downs this weekend for me. I have been pretty restrained on the alcohol front and managed to keep up with my exercise. I've meal planned and shopped for the week ahead too. On the other hand I did bake a cake yesterday and had a slice, then had another slice this morning to give me "energy" for my run 😳

Roussette · 09/05/2021 11:36

There's slices and there's slices. I bet you were restrained in your slice sylv !

I did wk4 Run 1, C25K today. Oh my golly good god, it was hard. A total of 16 minutes running, but my running is not running as such, it is the next step up from walking, a very very gentle jog.

Stupidly I looked at what wk5 entails. I cannot see me managing it.

I had to do today because I haven't been that good on wine consumption Friday and Saturday. They are such empty calories but me and DH just enjoy a meal with one on those two days and I just can't imagine giving that up.

sylv165 · 09/05/2021 11:54

I'm not going to lie @Roussette, they were proper slices!!

I've fallen slightly behind you on c25k, that was W3R3 for me today. Your running style sounds very similar to mine!! You will totally be able to do week 5. Even if you have to repeat w4 once or twice before building up to it you'll get there

Roussette · 09/05/2021 12:56

I can make a quarter of a homemade victoria sandwich look like a slice!

I think I might be repeating some of wk4 undoubtedly! I was all ready to go out the door today, but was finding every excuse imaginable to delay it. I was trying to find online a C25K plan to download, drink some water, go to the loo, re-tie trainer laces... and so on... Grin

Oh gosh a slice of Victoria sponge sounds heavenly.
I had a takeaway last night with DP but stuck to chop suey . I only had a small amount of rice and a few chips. Had a couple of large G&T. A small fluctuation this morning of half a lb so not too bad. Roussette a couple of glasses of wine won’t outweigh all the other good work you’re putting in through the week. And if we can’t have a little of what we fancy it’s a sad state of affairs. As someone suggested earlier in the week- all things in moderation.
Well done on getting out on the runs ! I’m off to see my friend for a catch up. Enjoy your Sunday everyone 😎

Roussette · 09/05/2021 13:49

And enjoy yours smallstep

I think often with me, and maybe others, it's this panic feeling that I'm letting things slide and I'll just give in. But as you say... a little of what you fancy is good for us!

myfuckingfreezer · 09/05/2021 13:58

I've done well this weekend. Had a burger on Friday, a pizza yesterday and have a bakery treat for today but have been so good on other meals (salads) and exercise that I'm still on track.

I'm on week 1 of C25k but have previously completed it. Don't fear week 5 - trust the plan and give it a go, then drop back down an repeat a week if you need to, but you'll probably surprise yourself.

Top tip. Don't complete it then stop running so you have to start again a year later Grin

Roussette · 09/05/2021 14:16

I shall note the top tip!

My DD says that I might surprise myself too, she says it is one of the things she's done and couldn't get over how quickly you do improve. I take note of what she says, because she could barely run at all bit like me (but much slimmer) and then 3 years ago ran the London Marathon in a pretty decent time!

(I won't be doing that, but want to keep up a bit of jogging if I can and the knees don't give out. I had a knee injury in 2017 and just can't go back there)

Peachypips78 · 09/05/2021 15:48

Hi all. So far this weekend I have been within my calorie count- that is TWO WEEKENDS IN A ROW!!! Absolutely unheard of. However, although I was 13.1 on Thurs, I weighed in at 13.2 today FFS. I think it's because I had loads of salty food yesterday.

Runners- when I go I am very slow too. I can't at the mo as I injured my hip overdoing it as I am massively all or nothing. I long to run fast like other people but I reason that I am carrying three extra stone.

I fancy some homemade cake. Maybe a coffee and walnut...

Roussette · 09/05/2021 15:58

Coffee and walnut. Carrott with cream frosting. Vic Sandwich. Lemon drizzle. Any of those acceptable Grin

I go as slow as I can without walking. That's it really!

Your two weekends in a row is inspiring. I so look forward to just letting go a bit on a Friday and Saturday night, I have no idea how to curb that.

The only concession last night was... we always have a really nice cheese with biscuits after our meal on a Saturday night (we are creatures of habit Grin). It was a creamy Cambazola. I had none.

sylv165 · 09/05/2021 19:00

It was coffee and walnut cake that I made this weekend. I'm not one to boast about my baking skills as they are hit or miss, but this one was a definite hit!

But enough about cake before I'm tempted to go and make another 🤣

Roussette · 09/05/2021 19:20

Oh yum. I could just eat a slice of that now.

Yes, let's move off cake. I did a healthy roast dinner. Lean pork medallions, and mountains of vegetables with just a bit of gravy. It was actually remarkably tasty and well within my calorie intake. 😇

Roussette · 09/05/2021 19:21

Just to add... we'd normally have about eight six roast potatoes each!

Peachypips78 · 09/05/2021 19:54

Yes carrot with cream cheese icing!! Drool. We aren't helping ourselves 😂😂

I don't know what's happened either. It's the first weekends I've managed it in about 20 years. How on earth did you turn down the cambazola?!
