I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Hehe thank you for the encouragement @10kaDay !

Ending the day on 8,657 which puts me back on track for 60k for the week. Plans for the weekend are up in the air currently as I was supposed to be driving to see DP for the weekend (in Yorkshire) but if the snow doesn't piss off overnight then I'm not even attempting to get across the M62!

10kaDay · 14/01/2021 22:09

A very respectable finish @LarsErickssong! Hoping for an end to snow so everyone can get stepping Smile

Morning all - 2.5K steps after this morning's workout, so I can see the living room getting some stepping action later... wishing you all a good day Smile

No snow here - so no excuse! Having said that, my plan today is to do the dog walk with DH this afternoon - 4Kish, and blitz a couple of rooms which normally sees an good step count!

LarsErickssong · 15/01/2021 11:09

It's soooo cold today not sure I can face going out for a walk at lunchtime! So there might be quite a bit of marching on the spot involved today Grin

MirandaWest · 15/01/2021 11:28

It’s cold here but have been out for a 5k run Smile The shower afterwards was very good!

ajandjjmum · 15/01/2021 19:08

Impressed Miranda - I look like a goose waddling if I try to run!

I did walk to the Post Office and back to take a parcel - definitely mindset change, as normally I wouldn't have thought to do that - it would have been a quick pop in the car. So that gave me 7,000 steps, which with my other bits today has brought me just shy of 10,000. Happy. Smile

MirandaWest · 15/01/2021 20:07

I might well look like a goose running Grin. And a man who was definitely at least 10-15 years older than me zoomed past.

Went for a walk at lunchtime as well - the sun from earlier on had turned into fog.

Up to 16,872 steps now Smile

10kaDay · 15/01/2021 21:13

Miserable day here (work was Sad Sad Sad), was also ravenous this afternoon and put away a million calories BUT have hit my 10k by pacing out the last 3.5K with some super fast marching on the spot... happy that I hit one of my goals at least today...

Wasn't a great day for me yesterday either, only managed 6.5k steps and had takeaway and wine (chicken kebab though so about the healthiest I could be!).

Back on it today, I need 21k steps over the weekend to reach my target so still very doable Smile.

KatherineJaneway · 16/01/2021 08:33

Managed 10,000 steps yesterday by taking a long walk at lunchtime added to normal daily steps. Day before it was raining all day (or felt like it) so I went on the exercise bike.

Everyone is doing so well! I think we'll all have off / bad days here and there and to think of it as sitting on a bench in the middle if a very long journey. You're not going backwards, you just paused slightly.

10kaDay · 16/01/2021 10:34

@LarsErickssong: definitely doable

@KatherineJaneway: I love your analogy!

For me, I’d say that my snacks (crisps yesterday) just weren’t all that great, & ruined my dinner too, so that’ll be something to keep in mind

@KatherineJaneway: I love your analogy!

Me too!

Just gone for a long walk, and with my general to-ing and fro-ing, cleaning bathroom etc., I'm at 10,000 steps now. Also lost a couple of pounds, after being pretty static for a week, so happy with that.

But I'm feeling better and more positive, and that's what really counts!

Hope everyone has a good day - and I'm very glad I don't like crisps! (Do love chocolate though!)

I seem to be all or nothing at the minute, I’m blaming the weather and home school keeping us inside but I’ve got no motivation. I’ve been doing a strength workout every morning but steps have been under 5k for 3 days and then over 15k the other 3 so hopefully they’ll even out. We’ve done a huge 12k walk today and next week I’m determined to do 10k min each day come rain or shine!

newyearnewme21 · 16/01/2021 17:11

Well done everyone for keeping things going in this miserable weather. If you’re one of those who cant then don’t beat yourself up- all I want to do is sit on the sofa and eat, it’s definitely harder than in summer!

Managed a big walk today- 13k steps! Also hopped on the scales this morning and they were down 2lbs- probably water weight but it definitely gave me a little boost!

10kaDay · 16/01/2021 17:32

@DowntownFrown: your steps will even out, and that strength workout will be doing lots for you!

I'm only on 6K steps, but did a brute of a workout for an hour+ a 10 min warm up, 20 min gentle cardio on top for 90 min overall... it will have done loads more for me than walking for the same timespan so don't get hung up on steps!

10kaDay · 16/01/2021 17:33

@newyearnewme21- well done on 13K steps & the 2lb loss!

@10kaDay @ajandjjmum Thanks 😊

ajandjjmum · 17/01/2021 09:37

Well done everyone on getting going - in whatever way works for you.

So the two pounds I lost yesterday have arrived back this morning! It doesn't matter (too much) though - I know this is how it works - just got to convince my inner self if it! I shall go for a walk now, and then relax for the rest of the day as DH is on chef duty. And thankfully there's nothing in the house to snack on!

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

10kaDay · 17/01/2021 09:50

Morning All

@ajandjjmum: I’m sure that rogue 2lb willl disappear again soon ... I also had some weight fluctuations this week, which can be a bit dispiriting. It’s looking over a few weeks and seeing the general numbers come down that helps I think

OP posts:
LarsErickssong · 17/01/2021 18:16

Only managed 6k steps today so far so now frantically stepping away whilst I cook tea.
@ajandjjmum I'm sure the 2lbs will drop off again just as quickly as they appeared, this is why I look at my average weight week by week as it gets rid of the effect of any fluctuations, e.g I weigh 2lbs more today than I did last Sunday but if I compare my average weight this week to last week I have lost 1.6lbs Smile

10kaDay · 17/01/2021 18:17

Sunday afternoon and time for my weekly check in Smile

Hit 10k all of the days, & 12k a couple of days so all good :) Also feeling strong & no injuries/niggles. I’m MOST pleased that I’ve managed to exercise before work every day this week so really hoping to do same next week

Weight is down 2lb (despite mid week snack fest) so happy with that. I’ve made my lunch soups & planned out the weeks dinners so all set for the next 7 days ..

Well done @10kaDay - that's really good going. I've done 50k for the week, which is better than I thought!

I also managed 3 workouts (I normally only do 2) and lost 1lb this week - which I'm pleased about. 4.5 lbs total lost so far.

10kaDay · 17/01/2021 18:58

Well done @onemouseplace! What kind of workouts are they?
