HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

10 st 9 1/2 so only half a pound down but I've not been that strict so I'm ok with it

Marsis · 06/01/2021 12:08

Weighed this morning

SW 101.1kg
CW 98.1kg

So it is coming off. Feeling a bit bleurgh has today think the lack of carbs is kicking in, got some electrolytes coming.

Determined to stick to this. Eating out and buying crap at the shops is my downfall so lockdown for me should help.

SunshineCake · 06/01/2021 13:08

Everyone is doing so well and even if you think you haven't it is a win as you are recognising the signs for trigger and improvement. I am up slightly today on last week but it went up and down so I still claim a slight win. I didn't run today so that was a factor I have decided. Soup for lunch. Roast chicken for dinner.

Puffalicious · 06/01/2021 15:06

Hi all,

Day 1 WFH (teacher Scotland) and juggling work and 3DC has been tough! DH is back at work so I'm on my lonesome. Kids still on holiday until Monday, dreading Monday onwards when I need to actually try and home school them too! Today they've had zero exercise and far too much screen time, but needs must.

Think I've been snacky as I'm so busy planning and video calling! Have used most of my calories already!!! Soup ready for dinner so that should keep me on track. The struggle is real!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 06/01/2021 15:31

Im not being too strict with food at the moment, though i am cutting down, had a goats cheese lentil and pepper ‘salad’ last night with too much cheese 😀

But I’m doing well on dry january and im walking loads...just did 50 minutes

And ive resisted the urge to treat myself with chocolate or biscuits...so yay!

Elle200 · 06/01/2021 15:35

@Marsis isn't it a great feeling when you get into two figures, cracking the 100kg mark?!!

@Puffalicious Soup is just the thing when you need low cal but filling, comfort food. I don't envy you your work and home schooling three from Monday, I've just got 2 and am a SAHM and just dread it :(

Diet wise I'm doing ok, now back on track calorie counting.

132orbust · 06/01/2021 18:26

Day 3 and I weighed in at 7am but am only now getting round to posting. I must do it EVERYDAY otherwise I'll start to slide:
SW:151
CW: 148.5
GW: 132
Soup sounds an excellent and cheering idea for all our tired grumpy souls. Onwards and inwards.

Puffalicious · 06/01/2021 19:17

Elle200 thanks for the sympathy, I'll need it, I'm sure. 2 teens will be self sufficient but 8 yr old with ASN will be fun as I'm trying to deliver live lessons! One foot in front of the other.

Soup keeps me on track and happy. Made some mushroom the other day and was bloody amazing although I say so myself Grin. I'll be soup making every other day all winter, I reckon (-5 here this morning ❄).

Firstworlddilemma · 06/01/2021 20:21

Weigh day for me and 1.8 kg off. A loooooong way to go but I’ve got to start somewhere!

SW 98.2 kg
CW 96.4 Kg

132orbust · 06/01/2021 20:33

Just wanted to say how good that Walking with Lesley Sansone You Tube video is @TheRealHousewife
I didn't fancy going out for a walk tonight due to the wind and sleet hitting me in the face on last night's trek so did that and it got my heart rate up nicely.
Thanks for the thread, we might as well get something out of this horrible time.

rivierliedje · 06/01/2021 21:35

Work has become massively stressful, I slept really badly and my period is making me feel horrible (was crouched on the floor at work doing phone calls), so unfortunately ate an entire pack of biscuits and some sweets. Plenty of veg in lunch and dinner though.
I think I'll be off to bed now, I'm so tired.

HalfSizeMe · 06/01/2021 22:33

@Puffalicious I hadn't thought of making mushroom soup! I often make root vegetable soup, and I'm surprised how easy that is, so I'll give mushroom a go next.

LarryUnderwood · 06/01/2021 23:15

Just checking in to say well done and I had another decent day. Every day is a step closer to a healthier life, thays what I am telling myself anyway!

Puffalicious · 07/01/2021 00:29

halfsizeme super easy: onion, garlic, tsp oil, then chopped mushrooms, veg stock and thyme. Whizz after 20 mins or so. No cream necessary (lots of recipes go on about adding/cream/milk/ flour but no need). Massive portion is 117 calories according to MFP when I added recipe. Think I'll make more tomorrow!

slalomsuki · 07/01/2021 09:15

So far so good although my diet is terrible, full of sugar if I ate everything I wanted to.

Have managed to stick to round about my calories daily and have done some more home cooking prompted by the kids being at home also and requiring 3 meals a day. I did a 30 minutes low impact with my daughter yesterday which was fun and surprisingly my legs feel OK today.

Can't weigh myself to update in progress as the battery has gone on the scales so will do when the replacement arrives.

Keep up the good work everyone

132orbust · 07/01/2021 10:59

Day 4
SW:151
CW: 147
GW: 132
If only the rest would come off this easily - 4lbs in 3 days.

Just back from a 90 walk and talk 'with' my friend though we are 80 miles apart it helps the time pass quicker.
Onwards and inwards.
I might pinch that mushroom recipe as I often make carrot and coriander soup but would like a change.

Drybird2020 · 07/01/2021 11:23

I weighed in the same yesterday, very premenstrual. Ate a bag of Candy Kittens so was over my calorie goal by a country mile.

I haven't been out running as it's so icy and I've got sore ankles and knees from overdoing it last week, but racked up 1300 steps yesterday, so that's a positive.

Today is supposed to be a fasting day but I'm taking it easy due to PMS, will aim for 800-900 and have my tea at 5 so I can fit in an 18 hour fast overnight.

SunshineCake · 07/01/2021 11:56

Morning all

I ran for 66 minutes this morning. Was a bit scary as very slippy in places but still did a decent time. Weight wise down since Monday but only about the same as last week.

I bought most of Asda but forgot mushrooms so can't join in with the soup making but can confirm it is delicious and milk and cream aren't needed. Flour also not necessary and with nutritional value.

In other news we have no hot water and have had a mouse visiting.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/01/2021 12:34

Well done on the run @SunshineCake bad news on the water and mouse though, have you got someone booked in to sort out the water?

Had leftover casserole for my lunch today which was yummy.

Looking forward to the predicted slightly less cold weather next week, sick of the cold, ice and frost already this winter.

Puffalicious · 07/01/2021 12:35

Weigh in day! Am quietly chuffed 3 lbs off! Lost the 2lbs I put on over Xmas and a wee bonus 1lb. I'm 12 stone something for the first time in ages- magic!

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2021 12:51

Good Afternoon All

My weight is creeping up! I keep kidding myself I’m maintaining but I’m not. It’s health related so not a lot I can do apart from badger GP. Had my thyroid bloods taken at the end of last year. As they have shown up ‘adequate’ no action required; I’d like to aim for ‘optimum’ but GP won’t increase thyroxine dose. I take some comfort that without doing what I do do healthy eating wise I’d be bigger, much bigger.

Anyways ....

A warm welcome to our newcomers @HalfSizeMe @Peg20 @partyatthepalace @Cornishbelle @Trisolaris @Marsis 😊

I love the name change @HalfShrunkMoreToGo!

You’re welcome @132orbust. I love LS. She is very motivating and the time soon passes.

Well done on your 10k run @SunshineCake ⭐️👏🥇

Keep smiling ... all this will pass ... eventually.

Hopping on! Weighed myself this morning. Unbelievable! Action required forthwith! I have no clothes that fit, I’m a shocker! I’ve been tinkering round the edges of this for years but it’s just getting worse. I really feel like it’s now or never, I don’t want to have ill health because I’ve eaten too much.
So dry January, calorie counting and increased exercise. 30 mins done on the cross trainer today. Lowest resistance and legs still like jelly.

Awaiting an engineer coming @HalfShrunkMoreToGo but no idea when or even what day. The cats will be spoken too 🐭.

Just had DD in tears so now awaiting a phone call from school. She has medical issues and doesn't need a teacher making threats. Angry.

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2021 13:06

Hi and welcome @Inchbyinch. Sounds like a plan.

Calorie counting really does help! I’ve gone back to measuring out EVERYTHING again as I need to be sure I’m not over eating. Today for example lunch was mushroom soup followed by boiled eggs & cottage cheese (mixed & seasoned). 50g of cottage cheese is an old fashioned tablespoon full! If I’d not weighed it out I know I’d have given myself double that!

OP posts:
AuldFox · 07/01/2021 13:09

Oh dear. I would eat at least 3 tablespoons of cottage cheese....
