HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Good Morning Everyone

We all thought life was a challenge before C19! Who’d have imagined we’d be where we are now. Juggling work, childcare, relationships, family dynamics whilst trying to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Hope people aren’t too perplexed with the Government’s dithering.... go to school, don’t go to school ... repeat. What numptys!

On a lighter note we can take control in regards to our health & wellbeing. If we feel better in ourselves, we are better placed to continue to make healthy choices as well as support those around us.

For those still looking for inspiration This NHS site is worth a look. Gives a basic structure to start your weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey.

My food menu:- Spicy cauliflower soup for lunch. Roast chicken and veg for evening meal. Tea, coffee & water! Apple if peckish later.

Wishing everyone a great week!

I live in Ireland (have done for the past 9 months) and the potatoes here are so delicious and hard to resist! However, I always in the past have had good weight loss experiences by switching from potatoes to sweet potatoes ( less carbon, more fibre) and so I am doing this. Also switch to cauli rice and to swede bake rather than DH's famous potato bake...

TheDudesmummy · 04/01/2021 09:19

Less carbs not carbon!

TheDudesmummy · 04/01/2021 09:21

I have made a batch of "Jewish chicken soup" from scratch (sans the noodles or matzo balls) and have frozen batches for lunches. It feels really healthy and is delicious!

rivierliedje · 04/01/2021 11:01

Weighed in on the 1st and have been quite active since then (but also eating allover the place). I would like to be securely in the healthy weight range, with better eating habits before pregnancy, also because high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes run in my family.
SW for 2021 68.9kg
GW 60kg
aim for the end of January is 67.4kg

This week I'm focussing on doing 10000 steps every day and not doing anything else while eating (put the phone/computer away!)

slalomsuki · 04/01/2021 11:26

Happy New Year everyone.

So far I have been below my calories on mfp and haven't felt too bad. My problem is sugar I think as I get a craving for it. Am trying to resist and not give in which I have managed so far.

Took the scales out today and the battery has gone on them so there will be a delay until I can update.

Name on mfp is the same if anyone wants to befriend me on there

132orbust · 04/01/2021 12:00

As promised I weighed in this morning as I will every morning to keep me honest. Not quite as bad as I suspected only 19lbs rather than 20 to lose!
SW 2021:151
GW: 132
And I'm off!

Happyrascalsmummy · 04/01/2021 12:10

I've just signed up to try Noom. It's £111 even with the new year discount code! It will have to really impress me during the 2 week trial to be worth that, I thought it would be a monthly cost not a lump sum upfront.
I track on MFP so I'll add you Salomsuki.

HalfSizeMe · 04/01/2021 12:53

Can I join? I'm very overweight and aiming to get under 20 stone by the end of the month. I have previously lost weight, but due to various factors (including lockdown) I gained it all back.

So far, I'm doing a Leslie Sansone video every day. I'd love to aim for 10k steps per day but that's not possible at my current weight/fitness so it's something I'll work up to. I've also persuaded my partner that at the weekends we'll do some form of activity, either going for a walk or doing an exercise video or something.

At the moment I'm trying to cut down my portion sizes and snacking. We've got too much Christmas food and my partner won't get rid of it. Last night he insisted on finishing the Yule log because otherwise it would go off, but I managed to only have a small piece. I'm also cutting down on alcohol.

CordeliaScott · 04/01/2021 13:43

I weighed myself today for the first time since before Christmas and had put on 3lbs over the Christmas period. I'm 76.6kg so a fair way to go until target.
Lunch and tea tonight is leftover fish pie.

IHateCoronavirus · 04/01/2021 16:45

Hi everyone hope you are doing well, welcome to all the new folk.
AThornAmongstRoses you sound like you are making lots of positive changes.

I’ve still got a long way to go (CW86kg) but the 8kg+ I’ve lost so far I can really feel. Smile I need to remember this positive feeling whenever I feel tempted. The next week may be tough as I lead up to AF!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/01/2021 16:45

Ive snacked too much this pm

Will pull it back now 😀

AuldFox · 04/01/2021 18:10

Well the anticipation of the 8pm conference by Boris has me reaching for the biscuit tin....

IHateCoronavirus · 04/01/2021 18:12

Step away from the tin! (Who knows when you can get biscuits again?)

Peg20 · 04/01/2021 19:43

Hello,
I’d like to join, I‘ve really enjoyed reading some of the inspirational stories on this thread and previous.
I weighed in this morning:
CW 15st9
TW (by July) 13st
I have two young little ones and I am a life long emotional eater. A lot of the pandemic has seen me eating toast and sweet things to get through the day. I’ve made a positive start today with eating three healthy meals (including a very low carb veggie chilli at lunch and a veggie sausage and bean hotpot for tea) and snacking on fruit and veg. Will try and take each day as it comes and weigh in on Friday.
All the best everyone Smile

FatGirlShrinking · 04/01/2021 20:07

Well fuck, fuck, fuckety, fuck. Back to homeschooling while trapped in the house.

NoJetter · 04/01/2021 22:10

I’ve had a good day (eating wise) stressed as hell about whether to send my 3 year old back to preschool or not Sad. The fact I haven’t binged on crap is good though as this would usually be my response to stress, sadness, frustration etc. So will take that as a positive.

Logging all my food on Fitbit. Getting a bit annoyed at it though as it keeps telling me I’ve eaten too many calories when I have stayed under 1200 since 1st Jan. I am not walking as much as I’d like following spinal surgery so Im not burning as many calories.

I’ve also just signed up to the trial of Noom. It seems quite fun so far but like @Happyrascalsmummy it is going to have to be pretty impressive for me to pay that much for the year.

Have lost a small amount in the last few days. Down 800g - 85.4kg from 86.2kg on 1st Jan. Not much but going in the right direction.

I’m feeling positive and motivated about this. Previously my desire to lose weight was to look better but this time it’s for my health long term and to help my back problems. I’ve realised in the last few months if I carry on as I am I’m setting myself up for ill health and I want to change that. Also would like to ttc dc3 at some point in the near future and need my back to be better before I can think about this so hopefully losing weight will get me there soon.

Katrinawaves · 04/01/2021 22:41

I’ve been nooming since July and I like it though the weight has not come off very fast.

Today was a good day for me diet wise. I had a slice of toast for breakfast, left over Pinch of Nom chimichanga for lunch and lemon pepper chicken with tagliatelle for dinner. 1200 cals in total. I also did a weights workout and went for a walk before dinner.

LarryUnderwood · 04/01/2021 22:46

Well done everyone for getting through today and the awful announcement! Even if you reached for the biscuit tin! I've managed another good day, doing dry january helps so much. Splashed out on a load of ready made lunches from Cook! to keep in the freezer, as the kids will be home for lunch for the foreseeable and both me and DH will struggle to find time to prepare a healthy meal for all of us 3 times a day. So I have got some nice, calorie controlled and veg-packed options for when things get mega busy and stressed with WFH and homeschooling.

theDudesmummy · 04/01/2021 22:53

Stayed dry but got hold of some leftover Xmas chocs unfortunately.

partyatthepalace · 04/01/2021 22:55

Can I join please?!

I need to loose a lot of stones, and have been fannying about for two years - lost a wee bit, but really tired of my own bullshit and really determined to loose weight this year, as god knows nothing else is happening.

Lost quite a bit on a v low carb diet about 10 years ago but put it all back on. This time doing moderately low carb so sustainable.

But my main issue is emotional eating.

Glad to have found this thread.

didireallysaythat · 04/01/2021 23:55

So had a bit of a sweet binge this evening during the announcement - I really need to find another crutch to lean on when the world goes crazy. But I got another 10k walk in whilst my work diary isn't crazy.

Drybird2020 · 05/01/2021 00:18

I was down 2lb this morning after my fast yesterday, I'm sure mostly water retention though, I was eating a lot more salty food over Christmas.

Had a slight blip when darling DS8 presented me with a box of my favourite chocolate after a shopping trip with Daddy. However I duly entered the calories into MFP and was only slightly over my goal.

1400 steps today so that's good! I'll have a run tomorrow.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife for the motivational posts. The link to the article about water was a particularly useful reminder.
