HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Haha yes avocado we'll all be invincible by the summer! GrinWink

SunshineCake · 21/01/2021 12:38

I did wonder if it was the duration @TheRealHousewife but I wasn't walking that fast as my friend can't. I did an hour and three quarters walk with her that I do with dh in half the time.

Today I had to run really quickly as needed to be back as ds is ill. I did what I thought was five km but it was only 4.88. My times though. Pace average 6.32. Pace max 5 min. Best km was 5 min 40. Very happy. Not so happy when the scales said I was up a pound on yesterday. I've decided to try and weigh weekly so I don't get disheartened but I think it was the emotional pack of chocolate raisins and the slice of fresh bread I had in the evening. I've been fasting since 9pm instead of 6pm and haven't reached fat burning yet Sad. And my hob has packed in on the ring I use the most [fed up].

Please keep everything crossed that DS antibiotics work as if they don't in 24 hours he has to go to hospital [fretting].

Sorry this has been all about me. I'm worrying about ds. But still good
luck and well done to everyone and glad you're feeling better @TheRealHousewife.

Avocadorable · 21/01/2021 12:40

@AuldFox we will be smoking hot by summer 🤣😉

Avocadorable · 21/01/2021 12:44

@SunshineCake fingers crossed for you son x

TheRealHousewife · 21/01/2021 12:51

Hi @SunshineCake wishing a speedy recovery for your ds and fingers crossed his meds work! If you’re up on exercise your muscles retain water as part of their recovery and restoring their glycogen stores. You are doing great! Are you getting a new hob? Or can it be repaired?

@AuldFox @Avocadorable you’ll both be smoking hot by summer ☀️ 🔥😬

sunshine really hope your son picks up soon, no doubt you’re worried and that seems to trigger comfort eating for most of us Flowers

SkeletonSkins · 21/01/2021 13:10

Morning all, no shift again on the scales for me today. Feeling a bit downhearted as I’ve been so good, around 1200-1300 cals every day, under 80f carbs, 2l water, 10k steps every day and some workouts too. It’s been suggested that maybe I’m not eating enough - I’m 5ft9 so quite tall, and I’m pretty active - and that I would see better results if I ate more like 1500 calories. But I almost feel scared to try it incase my weight loss is even slower!

Do people on here count calories? What sort of targets do you aim for?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 21/01/2021 14:00

@SkeletonSkins I am 5ft 8 and 180lbs and I have 1440 calories a day, usually eat around, sometimes just under that. I was having more but my allowance drops as my weight does.

Try Googling TDEE calculator, that will give you your maintenance calories and then just deduct 500 from that to give you the number you should eat. You need to redo it about every 14 lbs you lose to get your new allowance.

TheRealHousewife · 21/01/2021 14:42

Here you go @SkeletonSkins TDEE calculator

OP posts:
SkeletonSkins · 21/01/2021 15:54

Thank you to you both, my TDEE comes out at between 2200 and 2500 depending on how much exercise I do. I think I am definitely underrating and need to increase things a bit. Interestingly I read that if you don’t eat enough calories, it affects getting to sleep and also how much deep sleep you get - I’ve been having issues with both of those things, so fingers crossed eating a bit more helps.

SkeletonSkins · 21/01/2021 15:54

Under eating *

SunshineCake · 21/01/2021 17:18

You are doing great @Puffalicious. Keep it up. A few threads ago I was really fed up as everyone was losing weight except me it felt like. It took ages to kick in then suddenly it was coming off.

A new job is coming tomorrow and ds has managed to take his first antibiotic. He drowns know yet it is three a day for a week. Eek.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 21/01/2021 18:38

It's also worth remembering @SkeletonSkins that when you up your exercise you wear our your muscles. When you feel sore and achy it's because there are tiny tears in those muscles caused by the exercise you've done and the work you're doing to build them up. That's normal and how it should be, but what your body then does is hold onto water in those cells to help heal your muscles.

What I've found is that when I add a new exercise in or significantly up my game I have a lull of not losing weight then all of a sudden I get a whoosh and the scales go way down. The hard thing is to hold your nerve, keep doing what your doing and just wait for it to finally show on the scales.

Happyrascalsmummy · 21/01/2021 18:48

I follow MyFitnessPal for my calories each day. I think it starts around 1200 but it syncs with my Fitbit so when it tracks the steps and exercise it increases my daily allowance to around 1700. I'm 5ft10 SW 13st6, CW12st12.
Did a 2 week trial of Noom but found their food tracking was terrible, so I'm back just using MFP.

SunshineCake · 21/01/2021 18:51

A new job Grin.

I wish I had known that, @HalfShrunkMoreToGo. I think it took about three months for me to lose my first stone. Was a bit disheartened to have gone up today by a pound but I resisted fresh bread at lunch time so pleased with that.

I am going to run faster tomorrow. I went to the end of the road which I haven't done in a while as got spooked and then if I run down the slip road I'll crack the 5km distance. I know I could run ten km but I'm taking it slower after being off and will concentrate on getting my speeds up. I am so pleased with what I did today.

SunshineCake · 21/01/2021 18:51

Grrr. He doesn't know. He's not drowning.

SkeletonSkins · 21/01/2021 19:29

Thanks @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, I’m hoping for a big drop over the next couple of days! I know sleep is so important for PCOS weight loss, so I’m eager to see if my sleep improves with a few more calories.

@Happyrascalsmummy that’s good to know, thank you. I’ve been going off my fitness pal but I don’t have it linked with my Fitbit, I’ll sort that now. Fitbit is saying I burn over 2500 every day - often nearer 3000. I know that includes my TDEE too and not just exercise though. I’m thinking even if my Fitbit is quite inaccurate, 1200 wouldn’t be enough.

Anyway I’m finishing today on 1600 and I’ve eaten lots of healthy good foods so let’s see what happens. I absolutely do not want to be harming my body - this is as much about health and weight loss to me

Puffalicious · 21/01/2021 20:20

Thanks sunshinecake I need to stay positive.

SunshineCake · 21/01/2021 22:04

Good morning all
Day 19
SW:151
CW:141.75
GW:132
No change
9.25lbs in 19 days.
Looking at mentions of TDEE I am so short and mature(!) mine is around 1350 from memory - I calculated it from a Michael Mosley website a few months ago. I remember it shocked me at the time as I thought I would be around 1600/1650.
Getting my walking clothes on and then off out to walk and talk 'with' my friend even though she is many miles away as it is the closest we can get these days.

joynoelle · 22/01/2021 08:31

Seem to be stuck at 10 st 9 ☹️doing my fitness pal to log all calories and usually come in about 1100 a day so under cals. One hour on exercise bike and weights. Low carb. What am I doing wrong?

SkeletonSkins · 22/01/2021 08:53

@joynoelle this sounds like me, I got stuck and was doing similar cals/exercise. I calculated my TDEE and I’m significantly under eating so I’m going to try and see what happens if I eat a bit more (still healthy stuff and lower carb) as I’ve read eating too little can really slow your metabolism down.

joynoelle · 22/01/2021 09:08

Maybe. I'm on 5 5 so a bit scared to eat more 😬

joynoelle · 22/01/2021 09:08

Only 5 5 that should read
