HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

I'm so happy today. I've been doing a Leslie Sansone a day since the start of the year, and at first I found it difficult. Today I've just finished a 2 mile video!

I've also lost 3lbs since the start of the year.

Welcome @Pootle40

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/01/2021 13:11

Having kids don't half make eating well a challenge. I've just baked a dozen triple chocolate cookies for DD so she can decorate them with melted chocolate and sweets later. I won't be able to eat any of them but my whole house now smells like melted chocolate.

LarryUnderwood · 10/01/2021 13:23

Hello everyone, loving all the food suggestions. Courgette leek pea and basil soup sounds delish!

I didnt check in yesterday as was feeling dreadful and spent most of the day in bed. Waiting for covid test results. DH has it and I feel exactly how he did a few days ago, so I'd be astonished if it comes back negative. Luckily DH is feeling much better now so I've tagged him into supervising the kids and I am trying to get lots of rest. On the plus side my appetite has tanked so yesterday I had a small bowl of leftover asian slaw with some prawns, 4 breadsticks and a tiny bowl of risotto. Plus a gallon of hot water with lemon. And my dry January is going great guns as I just don't want to drink. (not being flippant here about covid just trying to see the bright side). Got up at 12 today, had 30g porridge oats with chocolate protein powder, blueberries and soya milk. That will be plenty until dinner which will be a simple roast chicken and new potatoes with some veg. And until then I'm going to lie on the sofa and watch korean romances on Netflix!

132orbust · 10/01/2021 14:20

That's amazing @HalfSizeMe I am doing Leslie everyday and stepped up to a longer one today which was faster too. Love how you can mix and match with all her videos and they don't take long.
And @HalfShrunkMoreToGo I read your post about how you have changed your life the other day and it was/is really inspiring. You are showing such a good example to your children too as there is no doubt they do what we do rather than what we say. The cookies also sound delicious Star

NoJetter · 10/01/2021 14:36

I know what you mean @HalfShrunkMoreToGo! Yesterday ds1 wanted to bake some smarties cookies and they made the house smell amazing and have just been staring at me ever since. Managed to resist and they’ve eaten them all now.

I don’t feel like I’ve eaten very healthily today although I am in my calorie allowance.

B - alpro yoghurt and a banana
L - half a tin of baked beans with vegetarian sausages and 1 slice of seeded toast + 1 clementine
S - one amaretti biscuit

Not sure what I’ll be making for dinner yet.
I’m normally vegetarian but doing veganuary and I’m getting really fed up with it already as I feel like I’m eating a variation of the same meal over and over again! I’m looking up some recipes now so I can add the ingredients to my next food shop so I can make something more interesting

ConorMasonsWife · 10/01/2021 15:50

Hello. Can I join? I'm just calorie counting, I'm down 12lb in the last couple of weeks, I was 13 stone 13, so I'm pleased. It's taken my BMI from 29.5 to 27.7. My next aim to be get under 13stone, which I hope I can by next Sunday.

TeaRose29 · 10/01/2021 16:53

hello @ConorMasonsWife, 12 pounds down in two weeks? During Christmas and New Year? That's amazing! Could I ask how many calories you are allowing yourself?

SunshineCake · 10/01/2021 16:56

Hope you feel better soon @LarryUnderwood. Rest rest and rest again. It took me months to get over.

I made soup today. Prawns, mussels, carrots, corn, garlic, potatoes and mushrooms. Really lovely. Dinner will be something light like crackers and cheese.

It is seriously cold here. Woke up to lots of frost. Have been out for two dog walks. Not sure if I'll get out for a run tomorrow as the ground is icy if not dh will move the bike out of the garage so I can use that.

Welcome @ConorMasonsWife.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/01/2021 17:24

Jacket potato for tea tonight, done properly in the oven so it's fluffy inside and crispy outside. Only had microwaved quickie ones recently so I'm really really looking forward to it 😆

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2021 18:09

Where has the weekend gone? It’s flown!

Had a change in menu today and had a calorie counted Indian Curry & Rice. Very nice it was too. Roast chicken is moved to tomorrow.

hello *@ConorMasonsWife*, 12 pounds down in two weeks? During Christmas and New Year? That's amazing! Could I ask how many calories you are allowing yourself?
How did you do this *@ConorMasonsWife*? I’m lucky if I lose a pound a week....
Peg20 · 10/01/2021 19:01

Thanks so much for the welcome the other day @TheRealHousewife

Hope everyone is ok.

I weighed in on Friday and has shifted five pounds, I tend to have a good loss first week. This weekend has been challenging as it’s usually the time when I snack the most, I’ve swapped crisps for crudités and amongst other things have enjoyed a healthy version of sweet and sour chicken and some home made lentil soup. I’m finding ryvita works when I’m getting strong toast/cereal cravings. I’m going to weigh in again next Friday

Oops CW should read 15st4

Pootle40 · 10/01/2021 19:07

@AuldFox I have to say my experience of weight watchers is it worked but I am literally bar code scanning and weighing everything. I did WW years ago and stuck strictly to the daily points without using my weekly allowance and lost 3 or 4 lbs every week. This Tuesday will be my first proper weigh in (I had to buy scales) but I cheated and checked yesterday and was already 2lbs off. I really do think it works but you have to be OCD about it!

ConorMasonsWife · 10/01/2021 20:04

I'm allowing myself 1300, but I was MASSIVELY PIGGING OUT before. So I think it just kicked my body into action, when I worked it out I was eating about 4500 calories a day 😳 I doubt I'll go on losing like that. I could dream 😅

mimblefish · 10/01/2021 21:39

Thanks @TheRealHousewife!

Having a really crap period day today and my whole abdomen feels full of uterus, so I've only managed to eat about 800 calories. Doubtless I'll make up for it towards the end of my period...

SunshineCake · 10/01/2021 21:53

It was lovely @TheRealHousewife.

Congrats @HalfShrunkMoreToGo. Star.

TTCAbroad · 11/01/2021 09:36

I've been skiing for the past week and didn't have access to a scale. Ate a bunch of crap (delicious crap like fondue, raclette, steak, ramen, French fries, wine) but have managed to go from 69.1 to 67.6. Let's just ignore the fact my period was due during the New Year's weigh in which bumped me up a few kgs. Pleased all the skiing kept me in the 67's.

Have opened a bottle of 2002 Margaux tonight but it's so delicious that I can't muster up a shred of guilt. A good way to kick off 31 Dry Days!

2.6kg to go to my 'End of January' goal weight. It seems possible based off some of the great losses that have already happened on here!

GoLightlyontheEarth · 11/01/2021 09:36

@HamishDent

I would like to join please! I have lost around 3.5 stone in the past 6 months and am just 1.5 pounds off a healthy bmi (albeit at the top of the range). I want to lose around another stone to get more into the middle of the range and then reassess how I feel. Things have slowed considerably over the past couple of months, so I will need to work hard to get rid of this last stone,p.

Current weight 70.55kg
Target weight 63kg

How did you lose it if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m in. I need to lose four stone. I lost about half a stone in August in MFP but fell off the wagon. I just can’t get started again. I find I do well for a bit and then loose the impetus.

I’m thinking of trying the no sugar approach combined with calorie counting.

Foreverlexicon · 11/01/2021 10:44

Hello everyone, old and new!
I am back!
I took a long break, once I stopped trying to lose weight, it was just better for my head to not be thinking about food all the time.

However, the horse had an injury and then gyms closed so I did no exercise and plenty of eating and have put a good 10lb back on again Hmm i had to wait for partners birthday to pass before I could focus but that’s gone now so I am back. Just focusing on healthier meals. We also now have a 4 month old Samoyed puppy who is the love of my life so at least I get out for walks most days (some working days partner takes her).

I do recognise some old faces! How is everyone?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 11/01/2021 10:55

Welcome back @Foreverlexicon !!

SunshineCake · 11/01/2021 11:26

Hi @Foreverlexicon! Fab to have you back !

Have you been reading all about us still?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 11/01/2021 11:38

Well just had an early lunch as was starvin marvin !

Left over slow cooked beef in gravy with greenbeans, chestnut mushrooms and leeks that I cooked through then mixed it all together to warm through.

Delish.

I think I'm done with winter this year, usually I quite enjoy the quieter weekends, the snuggly afternoons and hearty meals. This year I'm fed up of mud, ice, cold fingers. I want to 'want' to eat raw veggies and salad, I fancy waking up and pulling on a pair of shorts and a vest and being dressed instead of wearing 83 various layers and trying to decide if one pair of socks or 2 will be necessary for the obligatory squelch through the park for exercise.

So yeah, bring on spring, I'm ready now.

Marsis · 11/01/2021 12:40

Weighed today:

Sw: 101.1kg
CW: 97.6kg
GW: 70kg

Still need to get back into exercise. Things should settle down a bit by the end of this week which should let me get out and do my daily exercise or start the Fiit trial I have.

132orbust · 11/01/2021 14:21

Day 8
SW:151
CW:145.75
GW:132

Only 0.25lb off today but every little counts I suppose.
