HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Weighed in today and -3 from 1 January.

SW - 12-4
CW - 11-1
GW - 10-0

I’m happy with that.

TeaRose29 · 08/01/2021 17:13

Hello, can I join this lovely thread? It's just what I need!

SW: 10st 12 (April 2020)
CW: 10st 1 1/2
TW: 9st 6

I'm doing Dry January so I've cut myself a bit of slack in the last week, as I knew I would get terrible sugar cravings Blush. It's saving me a lot of alcohol calories through! Blush Blush

We are having a takeaway curry tonight, and then I'll be back on it properly from tomorrow. I do low carb (basically protein and veggies) with a calorie allowance of 1,400 which I log in MFP.

I usually play a lot of tennis, but we can't do that now of course, so I'll be aiming for a walk of at least an hour a day. Couldn't get out today as we've got too much snow and ice (I'm up North) so am just about to go on the stationary bike. Planning to start doing some weights too. Bought a set in the first lockdown but haven't used them! Grin.

LarryUnderwood · 09/01/2021 00:21

Thanks @TheRealHousewife I'm very pleased with my week 1 progress. Week 2 is where the real work starts isn't it? I'm doing dry January which in some ways is helping as of course no alcohol cals and also no boozy snacking.
Today was pretty good. I had my morning tea (tea with soya milk and 2 scoops of marine collagen powder, for my hair and skin, probs placebo but its still protein!). Then nothing till lunch, had a crumpet with 5g butter and cauliflower and aubergine bake. Then for dinner we had takeaway - kids and DH had mcdonalds and I opted for vietnamese- prawn salad, rice wrapper spring rolls and beef pho. Really tasty and plenty of leftovers. I ended up scarfing some 0f DS2s leftover burger and felt really crap. Then put everything into MFP (and I was scrupulously honest) and it came out at under 1600 cals for the day! So I'm taking that as a win (my target is under 1500 per day with roughly equal carbs/protein/fat). I do so much better when I don't have breakfast!

Day 6
SW:151
CW: 146
GW: 132
Slowing down but better than nothing.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 09/01/2021 10:18

Had a good week with booze and walking

Not so good with food but i did try so that probably made a difference

Lost 2 and a quarter lbs, so I’m very pleased with that

SunshineCake · 09/01/2021 10:41

Morning all. I feel I should join in with the stats

SW Oct 2018 196lbs
Official SW after starting running May 2020 177lbs
CW yesterday 153.8lbs
GW No idea. I'm 5 foot 4.5 so guidance would be appreciated.

Just back from a walk of an hour and a half with the dog.

Lunch is home made bread and HM chicken, mushroom, potato and sweetcorn soup. I made it yesterday and there's only one portion left so DH and I will share and have some bread but I'll need to watch not too much bread. I've also started having a satsuma every lunchtime and really enjoying them again. Dinner is curry, rice and naan but I won't have rice.

Have a good day everyone and stay warm!

SkeletonSkins · 09/01/2021 11:01

Morning all, good day yesterday, did a work out and went for a nice walk. Ate well too.

Scales have been kind to me this morning, saying I’m another 1.5 off since Thursday so that makes it;
SW: 191 (December 2020) Although I was 200 in summer!
CW: 186.8
GW: 169

Feeling positive as it’s TOTM this week so thought that might mean no loss but pleased that there is. Plan for today is a nice walk, protein shake for breakfast, scrambled eggs and veg for lunch and butternut squash macaroni and cheese with loads of veg for tea.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 09/01/2021 11:03

Ive been sat here wondering what CW means

Its current weight

Christ I’m an idiot 😀

SW 13 7.5
CW 13 5.25
GW 11 7

NoJetter · 09/01/2021 11:26

Morning all, my current stats are-

SW - 190lbs
CW - 186.7lbs
GW - 140lbs

I’m glad I’ve lost a little so far to keep my motivation. I managed to walk 7000 steps yesterday which considering I was housebound before my spinal surgery 4 weeks ago I am pretty happy with! I’m trying to fit in walks everyday which is hard because I’ve got my 2 small children at home and at the moment I can’t take the youngest out by myself (not allowed to bend or lift anything) so I have to wait for my husband to finish work before I can go out. But getting there and that’s the main thing.

I’m sticking to under 1200 cals per day and finding it ok. Not feeling too hungry or craving anything so far.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 09/01/2021 11:43

I'm 13st 2lb today, tantalisingly close to moving into the 12s which feels a bit like a dream if I'm honest.

When I first went to weight watchers when I was 11 years old I was 11 stone and I was 16 stone by the time I turned 16.

I have been wearing my size 16 jeans and I still have this weird disassociation every morning where I pick them up and think that the waistband is way too small to ever fit on me, then they do and it's weird 😂

Velocity · 09/01/2021 12:51

Thanks to this thread I'm back on the FitBit and signed up to the three free months of premium. I'm aiming for a 15 minute daily power walk (keeping track by colouring in that fab month-tracker posted up-thread!). I'm also back on the menu planning and trying to settle into some sort of lower carb eating approach. There is still some Christmas chocolate in the house but I bought some 80% chocolate as I that will keep me going on the treat front.

Velocity · 09/01/2021 12:54

On another note - updating my feel good Spotify playlist. I'm rocking to FrankTurner - Get Better:

'So try and get better and don't ever accept less
Take a plain black marker and write this on your chest
Draw a line underneath all of this unhappiness
Come on now, let's fix this mess
We could get better because we're not dead yet'

What else should I add?

Puffalicious · 09/01/2021 15:28

Hi all lovely newbies!

Update on the soup front! Discovered my new favourite: courgette, leek, pea and basil. Divine and 125 cals a large portion (parmesan on top as an extra is worth it though). Soup keeping me sane as was -8 here this morning. I can't make it quick enough with DC demanding more flavours! What else have I to do in lockdown, i suppose?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 09/01/2021 15:36

@Puffalicious it's similar in this house but with slow cooked casserole, pork, beef, sausage, lamb. Tomatoey base or gravy base. We've eaten then all over the last few weeks. Oven seems to be constantly on low with a pot bubbling away.

A beef casserole is just under 300 calories per serving and I serve with a heap load of steamed or roasted brocolli, cauliflower, green beans, baby corn, mushrooms (whatever I have in) so it properly lines your belly for the cold.

NoJetter · 09/01/2021 16:55

@Puffalicious that soup sounds delicious I’ll have to give that one a go. I got a soup maker from my dad a couple of years ago which I initially thought was a bit of an odd present but I love it now and have been using a lot recently to make healthy soups to have for lunch.

It's so wonderful to read this! Well done 😊
Puffalicious · 09/01/2021 17:54

Casseroles v popular here too. I'm veggie but 3 boys and DH scoff loads of meat- sausage casserole got 10/10 the other day from DC2 who's three grump usually!

They're all l having a treat tonight- take away fish and chips- and it's killing me the smell of the chips, but I shall resist!!!

SkeletonSkins · 09/01/2021 18:21

Ooo @Puffalicious I’ll have to give that a go!

Going to try and make butternut squash Mac and cheese shortly as a bit of a Saturday night treat. Going to pair with some veg so I can keep my portion a bit smaller and pass on the garlic bread my husband will be having 😭

My Fitbit arrived today so that’s exciting. Rest day today exercise wise but did a 5k walk with the dogs.

mimblefish · 09/01/2021 21:41

Joining this thread late but I started 1 January. My "normal weight" is 147 lbs (10 st 7) and even though that's very near the top of the healthy range for me at 5 foot 5, I've always really struggled to get below it for some reason. So...maybe this time?

SW: (1 Jan) 155.6 lbs
CW: 151.5 lbs
GW1: 147 lbs
Dream GW: 137 lbs

Pootle40 · 09/01/2021 22:39

Hi

Can I join ? I started weight watchers on January 1st as lack of any exercise through lockdown plus wfh all the time (and snacking in the evenings) has piled it on. I am 5'6 and finding my size 14 clothes are getting too small! My current BMI is 29.7 and I would like it to be < 25.

SW 13st4
CW 13st2
GW 11st

132orbust · 10/01/2021 08:28

Welcome @Pootle40 though it is not my thread I am sure you will be very welcome.
Day 7
SW:151
CW: 146
GW: 132
So no change from yesterday. It is always the way, those first few lbs fall off easily and then it's a bit of a slog. Onwards and inwards.Grin

AuldFox · 10/01/2021 10:49

Everyone is welcome I’m sure @Pootle40

In fact, unfortunately people tend to disappear from the thread as it progresses, so the more people who hang on the better!

Camelbert · 10/01/2021 11:39

Weigh day for me today. I delayed it a bit while I figured things out. I eventually settled on calorie counting and am finding it easy enough to follow. I like that it isn’t restrictive and I can have anything in moderation. I’m down 2.2 Ibs Smile

132orbust · 10/01/2021 13:07

Good job @Camelbert. It's great when you find something working for you. lb by lb and sometimes ounce by once we'll get there.
I'm resisting pasta for lunch and having soup I made yesterday as we are having roast chicken for dinner.
