A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Gradually eat less shit is perfect for me. Along with “gradually shift my arse more” :o

GwendolineWindowlene · 03/03/2021 13:00

Oh yes, it doesn't do to be rash about these things. Easy does it. Grin

MrsBobDylan · 03/03/2021 20:01

@SingToTheSky yy to gradually shifting arse. So far my efforts have been limited to buying four swimming costumes and keeping the one I looked least shit in. DS 7 was very helpful and pointed out I was "much bigger than the material". Anyway, when pools reopen I will suddenly become Pamela Anderson circa 1990...

@GwendolineWindowlene I have a sweet tooth. I am calorie counting and sometimes I swap out a proper meal for hot cross buns or croissants or pancakes with lemon and sugar.

@AcornAutumn rather than loosing weight more quickly would it help you to visualise the weight you have lost so you can stay motivated? Someone on these boards suggested visualising packs of butter around your waist which really helped me recover after trying on four unflattering swimsuits. Grin

GwendolineWindowlene · 03/03/2021 20:59

Have you seen those models of fat you can buy? Amazing.

AcornAutumn · 03/03/2021 21:16

Just looked that up. Eww.

my late father left absolutely tons of nonsense, but the one thing I liked from his hospital, I can't find. So unPC ...it was a cuddly toy mad cow and when you pressed it, it let out a super demented moo.

I know, I'm a terrible person 😂

Fat models ShockShock

I found a 5lb one for £84 pounds. I could actually loose £s and gain lbs, which is what I am good at anyway. Weekly weigh in and I have gained weight. Ffs.

My Dad's most treasured possession was a pepperami sausage model which stood on top on the telly and growled while rotating his hips every time a loud noise occurred. Hope your moo cow turns up @AcornAutumn

AcornAutumn · 04/03/2021 10:37

MrsBob oh that Peperami sounds brilliant! 😂

GwendolineWindowlene · 04/03/2021 10:39

MrsBob and Acorn, your dad's were both magnificent. My dad treasured a few things that are too special to throw away but too awful to display. Sadly none of them as marvellous as a demented cow or a gyrating sausage.

My Dad also had a collection of really odd pottery pieces bought from charity shops. Among them, a huge ceramic model of an overweight chef holding a spoon aloft.

He was obsessed with photoshop but not a detail-oriented person. He would print and frame a lovely picture of one of my kids with an ear lopped off or floating in the air. He once added my BIL into a group pic minus a foot, and put two blobs on my nephew's face to disguise his closed eyes. Pure comedy gold!

AcornAutumn · 04/03/2021 18:27

Dad didn't have much funny stuff apart from that cow. Mum doesn't even remember it so I'm thinking she might have thrown it away thinking it was an ordinary toy!

I can hear an M&S voiceover now
"This is not just a cuddly toy....it's a BSE cuddly toy".

Gosh, we're not going to win any PC prizes round here are we? 😂

Re autocorrect, some poor poster on Money Matters was trying to ask about putting lots of tiny pensions into one pot and wound up with "Tiny Persians". 😂😂😂

Hello, I saw this thread mentioned on another thread and wondered if I could join you? I want to lose weight but without going mad about it. I'm trying to run 100k this month which is crazy amounts of activity for me, but my face swimming isn't an option at the moment, and eat a bit less and hope that the two things in combination eventually pay off. I could do with a bit of gentle encouragement without people going crazy. Every time I mention running or swimming irl people start inviting me to enter triathlons with them and I am not in that space at all. I don't want to keep pushing myself further and harder, I just want to stick to my plan.

AcornAutumn · 04/03/2021 19:31

Hello long - is it okay to call you long for, um, short? Welcome.

I think running 100k in a month is fantastic, if you want to update us, I will certainly cheer you on. I find exercise very therapeutic.

No one is going to push you to do more here. We just like to enjoy what we do! Now I've got Wham Rap as an ear worm...do you have music on when you run? It's fair to say music taste covers a wide range here.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 04/03/2021 19:35

Ooh, tell us more, long, are we famous? ShockGrin

longestlurkerever · 04/03/2021 19:39

That's fab acorn. People round here generally call me longest but long is good, I like a change Grin. I have just invested in an arm strap thing for my phone so I can listen to music or podcasts but tbh I'm only running for 40 mins at a time so it's not reallylong enough to get too bored.

Music is my first love though, followed by swimming. I am one of these cold water swimming bores lockdown has spawned. I was going every day till it shut, and cycling there and back (only about ten mins each way but it helped). I loved having a regular activity as previously I have gone months without doing anything at all but since the reservoir shut at Christmas I've been putting weight on again and I had gestational diabetes so really need to get my weight down and look after myself better. Running is going ok but when swimming is an option again I'll be going back to that.

Good luck with the keyboard. I was learning piano before lockdown but tbh prefer the swimming and don't think I have time for 2 hobbies.

AcornAutumn · 04/03/2021 20:25

long

I think the cold water swimming must be great, but sadly I only learned to flap about as an adult and wouldn't be safe to do wild swimming. I live in the urbs. If anything changes, if I ever live near water, I might try to get my skills up and give it a go.

It is nice having a regular hobby isn't it? Proper recreation instead of staring at screens. I've got to get back into arty stuff. The keyboard and music was literally like a foreign language when I started but I'm so pleased I did. It took up a lot of brain space though.

It'll be easier to do arty stuff when the clocks go forward and the light is better.

I'm starting to do yoga before bed on top of my workout...from little acorns good habits grow...😂 In a much better place than I was before I started this thread, thanks every one Flowers

Gwen I posted this link on a thread where a lady said she didn't want to obsess about food. Maybe she'll join us.

So glad this came up on actives... Posting so I don't lose the thread! Saving to read through in the night ahead

longestlurkerever · 04/03/2021 20:38

Oh I'm a city mouse too. Reservoir is in hackney!

aapple · 04/03/2021 21:21

Thought I might join you. I read a thread somewhere today about treating yourself to reading a good book. So I did that for half an hour today when I needed a pick me up, really enjoyed it Smile

AcornAutumn · 04/03/2021 22:12

Hello Starfish I'm not sure if the thread is a good read but it's nice to have a chatty place where we can talk about stuff that, to quote Gwen, doesn't involve the calories in a spring onion Grin

Aaple I always like to have a book and/or box set on the go.

long I googled that, looks lovely. I hope you can go back soon.

Argh! Have somehow managed to put weight on! Buggeration.

longestlurkerever · 05/03/2021 08:24

My scales are in need of new batteries. They keep flickering and won't settle on a weight Trouble is I am starting to suspect that if I change the battery they will show my weight is even higher than I thought....

MrsBobDylan · 05/03/2021 09:05

Lovely to see new folk, welcome! I did my weekly weigh in yesterday and had put weight on...then I moved them around (3 different rooms Blush) and ended up with an even bigger weight gain. Utter disaster!

I read the other threads in weight-loss chat but couldn't take part. They just make me feel inadequate.

I would love to do some out door swimming but live in a large, landlocked town. Waiting for the swimming pool to reopen.
