Hello & Welcome

Roughly 4 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In October/November I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping to see a loss this month which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Great numbers!! @FatGirlShrinking

TheRealHousewife · 16/12/2020 08:39

Good Morning All

Goodness ... halfway through December already ๐Ÿ˜ณ Canโ€™t believe how busy Iโ€™ve been without breaking any Tier rules. Had a few health appointments too. I need to finish writing Christmas cards today and get them in the post.

Iโ€™m maintaining at the moment (up down same couple of lbs). In September I saw 8st 12lb for a few days but currently resolutely in the 9s. I would have liked to have achieved and maintained at my final goal of 8st 12lbs but Iโ€™m not stressing about it. Iโ€™m taking the odd pain med which for me affects weight, weight loss etc.

@FatGirlShrinking you are doing fantastically well and bloody well done ๐Ÿ‘ on losing 20% of your body weight. Awesome โญ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‡โญ๏ธ

@fallfallfall thatโ€™s a great walk youโ€™ve posted! The landscape looks very therapeutic. I hope youโ€™re feeling better in yourself. Youโ€™ve received good advice from @FatGirlShrinking & @SunshineCake ๐Ÿ‘

Take care everyone & stay safe โค๏ธ

Tuesday greetings!

Morning started well here with finally seeing some movement on the scales after nearly a weeks plateau another 1lb down this morning which feels good. Rapidly spiralled since then tho - 9 people in DPโ€™s office have tested positive for Covid, heโ€™s been sent home and going for a test this afternoon. Heโ€™s not got symptoms so Iโ€™m ok to go to work atm, but got in such a tiz about thinking about it all Iโ€™ve managed to lock myself, the dog and a bag of rubbish in the porch on our way out the house ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ. Work were at least sympathetic laughing at me and thankfully DP is on his way home anyway so we wonโ€™t be stuck here too long. But doh!!! Doggo seems to think itโ€™s neat sitting on the floor out here with stinky rubbish bag at least.

Weโ€™ve still not got a working fridge so if we end up having to isolate from tomorrow then I donโ€™t know what weโ€™re going to eat! Hardly any food in weโ€™ve been shopping every other day. I havenโ€™t stocked the cupboards since moving house yet though because of the fridge situation. Aarghhh. I know MN would tell me IABU to do a mad supermarket dash tonight but think I might have to. Thereโ€™s no delivery or c&c slots this side of Xmas, and I donโ€™t have to isolate unless DP has a positive test.

FatGirlShrinking · 16/12/2020 09:11

@MawkishHawk oh dear sounds like a fun morning! Check Iceland if you do need a delivery slot, I've heard they've been good with availability.

DD came home from school last night very excited because they've announced a celebratory last minute class Xmas party on Thursday because the kids have been so well behaved and they get to take party clothes to change into in the afternoon!

Brilliant, this year I have bought wellies, joggers, thermal vests, waterproofs but at no point did I think ah yes, a pretty party dress that's what we need. Cue lots of frantic hunting for last years, letting down the skirt and making a red scrunchie with jingle bells on it. I can't magic up party shoes though so she's wearing her rainbow sandals with it.

I'm glad she's so excited, but come on school give the parents a little heads up for prep please!

SunshineCake · 16/12/2020 11:19

Well done @FatGirlShrinking. Hang in there @HolaVida. Today is another day and for you can do this.

I'm only registering the week at a 0.8lb loss and 2lbs off since about the 5th of December but I'm fine with that. I didn't run today as felt awful yesterday and will probably not go tomorrow. I'm going for a covid test this afternoon and DS2 has been sent home this morning as there are more cases.

CescaNicole · 16/12/2020 14:19

Hi Everyone

Hope you're all well!

I have weighed in this morning and still staying the same - 10 stone 12. Which is what I wanted for December and the dress and everything.

It's all gone a bit tits up with the wedding and the tiers and everything. One of my family members have tested positive and so now long story short I have zero family members coming. ๐Ÿ˜ญ
I guess this was always a risk of a lockdown wedding but I had mostly thought it would be the restrictions affecting the day.
Don't want to cancel as its all organised and fine to go ahead. Plus if we move it, this could happen again and then we are forever postponing. If anything this year has taught to me just go for it, life is too short - all I want to do is be married I'm not bothered about the show of a "proper' wedding. But I am a bit heartbroken!!!!

Sending you all love, and please stay safe โค๏ธ

SunshineCake · 16/12/2020 18:40

I am sorry to hear that @CescaNicole Sad. Is there anyone else you can ask instead ?

TheRealHousewife · 16/12/2020 18:45

@CescaNicole thatโ€™s crushingly disappointing for you both. Are you opening it to Zoom for those that canโ€™t be there in person? I know it isnโ€™t the same but it is something. I hope your family member quickly recovers!

@SunshineCake I hope youโ€™re all ok! Fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž

SunshineCake · 16/12/2020 19:00

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. I'm really worried I'll be positive as I've promised to do something for someone and I won't be able to if I'm self isolating.

TheRealHousewife · 16/12/2020 19:12

Bless ya @SunshineCake, thatโ€™s really nice of you. How are you feeling now ... any sore throat, cough or loss of smell?

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 16/12/2020 19:24

All of the above and a headache. I'm sure I'm just exhausted as haven't been sleeping well and I know I must feel lousy as I didn't run today and won't tomorrow. Need to rest if I can. Thank you.

FatGirlShrinking · 16/12/2020 20:46

@CescaNicole that must be disappointing for you, DH and I got married completely alone and it did not detract in any way from the specialness of the day, but we chose that so it is different. We wanted a marriage and the wedding was just the gateway to it.

@SunshineCake hope you feel better soon!

TheRealHousewife · 16/12/2020 22:13

You take care @SunshineCake! Sounds like you are quite ill ๐Ÿค’ ๐Ÿ˜ท

Just did my measurements.

I took my baseline 8th September, since then I've lost a total of 21.5 inches off of my hips, waist, chest, arms & thighs!

SunshineCake · 17/12/2020 05:36

I actually don't feel too bad at the moment @TheRealHousewife. As I felt really awful a couple of days ago this feels better . I'm annoyed I can't sleep and so it will be a long tiring day but it comes and goes, me feeling awful. If it was light I'd go running which tells me I'm not anywhere near as bad as in March and April. Then I had to lie down for hours after walking to the bathroom. No results yet but probably by about 10am.

SunshineCake · 17/12/2020 05:38

Well done @FatGirlShrinking! You'll need to change your name to shrunk!

I'm on six inches off my tummy and 4-5 off my thigh. Only measured one Grin. I keep having to ask dh to put new holes in my belt!

FatGirlShrinking · 17/12/2020 09:52

Brilliant work @SunshineCake! I figured I'd best measure as been hoiking my trousers up a lot this week ๐Ÿ˜†

Just dropped my car off for service and MOT and walked home 30 minutes over the nature reserve so that's my exercise for today.

Puffalicious · 17/12/2020 10:03

Morning.

Bit fed up at weigh in this morning- stayed the same, was hoping for 1/2lbs off to lose that magical stone before xmas. Strangely, after period finishing last Friday I seem to have started again today! I imagine this is the start of the dreaded peri/ menopause. I consider myself a very young, just turned 49- I can't be doing with it!!!

FatGirlShrinking · 17/12/2020 10:22

@Puffalicious bloody hormones are a scale tricker! If you've been following your plan and know you've been eating below calories then you will have lost weight/size but this bastard hormones can cause you to hold water which tricks the scales.

Do not let them win! Don't be down heartened and just keep going and at some point in the next few days you'll step on the scale and it will have sorted itself out.

A few of us on here have had plateaus and discovered that measurements help during those times, if the scales don't show it but you've put a new hole in your belt you know you're still doing well.

If you don't have a tape measure just find a bit of string or old belt, wrap it round your waist and make a mark on it then use that same string/belt in 4 weeks and see what it says.

SunshineCake · 17/12/2020 11:01

Sympathies @Puffalicious. It took me ages to start consistently losing weight and keep it off but once it started happening I've been pretty solid. I'm 48 and have been peri-menopausal for four years. Currently about four weeks late with my period. I missed three in the spring and summer after I had been ill and thought that was it but no such luck.

I went running this morning and did 7.5km and then got a nice surprise in the scales.

May 9th, day one of couch 25km 177lbs.
Today after run number 107. 150.8lbs.

No covid results yet.

Elle200 · 17/12/2020 14:38

@FatGirlShrinking you are doing a great job, half a stone and it's only half way through the month, you should sell your secret!

TheRealHousewife · 17/12/2020 15:46

I came on to see how @SunshineCake was ... I take it youโ€™re feeling much better and tested negative since you went running ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. So pleased for you ๐Ÿ˜Š. I was actually worried about you โค๏ธ

@Puffalicious blummin hormones have a lot to answer for, you have my sympathies. Try to not be too disheartened, hard I know. Especially this time of year. Sending positive hormone bashing vibes ๐Ÿคž

OP posts:
FatGirlShrinking · 17/12/2020 16:14

Thank you @TheRealHousewife and @Elle200 no secrete, just boring calorie counting and exercise. Makes me feel bad really that I let myself stay obese for so long thinking that weight loss was an impossible dream. Ah well, doing it now, and determined this time I will in fact make it to healthy weight and be firmly out of the 'plus size' bracket!
