Hello & Welcome

Roughly 8 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in October I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping November will see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Having to have a reset today. Blush my cheat day turned into a 3 day cheat weekend, coupled with my alarm not going off last week in time for my morning weekend has resulted in the scales jumping up and down for the few days.
Had a fasting day, lots of green tea, soup, a small bowl of casserole and some Greek yogurt with granola . Under 800 Cal's so far. Feel better now and need to steady those scales.

Mc3209 · 16/11/2020 20:29

Went a bit AWOL, but I am back ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I have started calorie counting and got into a swing of regular 1 hour walks with the pram. Gosh, I forgot how much I don't like counting calories, but it is making me more aware of what I am eating.
Scales are showing optimistic 1kg loss.

FatGirlShrinking · 16/11/2020 23:45

Hello all. Had a bit of a hissy fit at the scales this morning as they show me putting on 3 lbs between Wednesday and this morning. I can only assume this is my because some of the loss last week was false due to very low calorie intake and stress and now I'm back to eating more normally. I had a bigger than usual intake over the weekend but still below 2000 each day so it shouldn't have cause real weight gain.

Around 1200 calories today and lots of water so hoping to level out over the next few days.

Breathmiller · 17/11/2020 09:10

fatgirlshrinking
I have had a similar path this last week.
Lost 5lbs last week but it was my first week back on the track for a long time and I also had my period in the middle of it. So i think it was a bit ambitious to think it was all going to stay that way.
Then I had a weekend off and I put 2lbs of that 5 back on.

But I've had a better couple of days (not going overboard as I want to get out of the feast or famine mind set) and it's off again and back to 5lbs lighter than this time 10 days ago.
Hopefully another couple of days and I will hit that goal of 12st something.
But I'm not going to dip too low on calories or I will just binge again later and the yoyo will keep going. So, I am logging but not lessening my calorie intake for the day.
I am also on another thread about stopping drinking and I am 100 days alcohol free today. I figure if I can do that, then I can do this healthy weight thing too.

Breathmiller · 17/11/2020 09:15

Oh, and I've not been measuring my measurements accurately or anything but when I put my jeans on in the morning I always like to pull my belt tightish and see what's the tightest i can get it (whilst still being able to breathe๐Ÿ˜) .
In the summer, i could get it to notch 4. Today it went easily to notch 1. I had to lessen it off for comfort to the second one along but that is feeling a little looser than it did last week. That always feels a win for me as I am apple shaped so my waist (or lack of a waist) is always a big thing for me.
I also have IBS so i get bloated too, but not nearly as much when I am eating less.

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/11/2020 12:48

Hi all

That's a good distance sunshine well done!

Grey here to match my mood Hmm Good luck for WI tomorrow if you're hopping on the scales.

TheRealHousewife · 17/11/2020 15:33

Hi Everyone

Sorry not posted for several days. Had pneumonia jab last week. I was the lucky 1 in 10 that suffers vomiting. Not felt great to be honest but now over the worst of it. Other news, my Neuro Spinal consultant has said I need to have another MRI of spine & brain due to deterioration in symptoms (not blue light but warrants further investigation)

@SunshineCake whatโ€™s TIO? Brains mush at the mo.

Iโ€™ll catch up on thread after Iโ€™ve finished for the day. Side note:- anyone watched/watching Schitzs Creek on Netflix? Iโ€™m loving it.

OP posts:
FatGirlShrinking · 17/11/2020 17:18

@TheRealHousewife I love schitts creek, watched them all.

Sorry to hear about the effects of the jab and your MRI, hope they get it done quickly so you can move forward with whatever treatment is needed.

Work is happier, still busy but not tear my hair out stressful, although I did only get time to make a couple of slices of toast for lunch, really need to try to get at least 15 minutes, rather than just a 2 minutes, grab and eat while on a meeting lunch.

SunshineCake · 17/11/2020 21:11

Thanks @MrsJonesAndMe. I hope you are feeling better now. I only ran 5.5km today but my back is sore and I've been on my knees all day sorting Lego so they aren't happy either so probably won't go tomorrow. I shouldn't be I know I'll wake up and fret about not going.

@TheRealHousewife TIO - threads I'm on. Sounds scary but I hope you are seen and sorted soon.

FatGirlShrinking · 18/11/2020 07:38

Poop!

Start of this weight loss journey was 233lb, BMI 35.4

28/10/2020 - 198lb, BMI 30.1
04/11/2020 - 197lb, BMI 29.9
11/11/2020 - 192lb, BMI 29.1
18/11/2020 - 194lb, BMI 29.5

Loss this week - gained 2lb
Loss this month - 4 lb
Total loss since starting - 39 lb

I don't like gaining so I need to get back down to where I was by next Wednesday.

SunshineCake · 18/11/2020 07:45

Great results @FatGirlShrinking! Don't be disheartened on your gain. I'm up 0.8lb even after running 15km but look at what we've already achieved!

I haven't been running today as I had a lot of pain in my back last night which had eased with the weight loss and it is a lot more painful than my knees are and I really don't want it starting up again. I'll take DS2 to school then walk my dog but not run or cycle. I expected to feel fretful at not going but I am being sensible and that is progress.

Have a good day everyone. We are waiting to see if Dd has to self isolate from being a contact of someone with a sibling with the virus. I'm worried as DS2 has exams this week and next..

FatGirlShrinking · 18/11/2020 08:51

Thanks @SunshineCake definitely take the time to rest a bit and apply some heat to your back.

We've got 5 cases of CV in DDs school and a load of classes self isolating so definitely feeling like it's only a matter of time till we get the call.

Trisolaris · 18/11/2020 08:51

Morning everyone!

Thereโ€™s been some stuff been going on here, hence why I havenโ€™t been around much but I hope you are all doing well.

WOW results for today 58.3kg, Start of the month was 58.9kg. Target is still to be sub 58 by the end of the month.

Donโ€™t get disheartened anyone who has had minor gains, that keeps happening to me but if you keep following the plan it always eventually goes down and you are all doing so well!

CescaNicole · 18/11/2020 09:08

I have absolutely no idea how but my weigh in this morning showed a 4lb loss ๐Ÿคฏ
Which also officially puts me just over 1 stone loss since we started!
Very pleased but a little baffled.
I was about to give up this week.

28.10.20 - 11 St 9 lbs
04.11.20 - 11 St 4 lbs
11.11.20 - 11 St 4 lbs
18.11.20 - 11 St 0 lbs

Total Loss for November - 9 lbs
Total Loss since starting (1st October) - 15 lbs or 1 St 1 lb

Hope everyone is doing OK!! โค๏ธ

Breathmiller · 18/11/2020 09:33

Hi everyone
Well done on al these losses. And anothrr one saying don't too disheartened when it stays still or goes up a lb or two.

I looked back at my progress on MFP from a few years ago when i lost 2 stone and although the graph line went down as a whole, it was certainly not a straight line in one direction. It was very up and down, up and down . But only in small increments.

So my motto is 2 steps forward but one step back is still one step forward.

I have gone down a bit again.

Made it to that elusive 12stone something today. Okay...only 12st13 Grin but it's all heading in the right direction.

That takes me to a 6lb loss since i started.
I'll take the next lb as another wee milestone as it means i will have lost half a stone.
My next biggish goal is 12st7lb.

FatGirlShrinking · 19/11/2020 08:10

@Breathmiller and @CescaNicole great losses! Well done!

I'm back down again today, no idea how the scales change as much in 24hrs, but I've gone from 194lb yesterday to 191lb today???

Is anyone planning for a family gathering on Xmas day? Was reading the stories yesterday about the govt planning for a 5 day relaxation of the rules to let households mix and it just feels like madness to me.

I think it's because my only family that we'd socialise with at Xmas are in the vulnerable category, so I can't see how it would be unsafe on 21st dec but magically safe on 25th dec when DD will have been at school within the last 14 days and possibly infected.

Me and DH talked it through again last night and regardless of what Boris says we're not having a family meet up indoors this year, neither of us would ever forgive ourselves if we gave the virus to MIL, FIL or gran. Gran would be very very high risk (92 with oedema, on heparin and constant low level chest infection that gets bad about 10 times a year), MIL has lupus and other health conditions that make her vulnerable.

We're hoping for dry weather on Boxing Day so we can do something outside like a dog walk and hot picnic.

Puffalicious · 19/11/2020 09:12

Morning! Not brilliant news on my weigh day 0.5lb, but it does take me to the magical half stone in 4 weeks. I just feel that I'm trying so, so hard- not a treat past my lips or an extra calorie (staying within 1200 at the very most)- and it's such slow progress compared to others who seem to be shedding loads each week. Hmm.

It's also my birthday on Monday and I feel like a weekend of a bit of indulgence is due, but i don't want to undo my small gains and then be upset for the rest of the month.

SunshineCake · 19/11/2020 12:57

Just a quick hello as had an emergency but I'm reporting I didn't run again to rest my back but still showing a 0.2lb loss today. Might rest tomorrow as well and start again on Monday.

Well done to everyone for trying. Even if no loss we are all making healthier choices. It's still a win!

Breathmiller · 19/11/2020 16:26

Well done everyone.

I'm not sure why i am losing as fast as I am. I have no reason for it. I am sticking to 1600 calories a day. Sometimes a little less , some days a tiny bit over.
I am busy so maybe that has something to do with it. I'm on the move a bit.

Lost another 2lbs today. So that is the half a stone goal done (plus another 1lb)

I will lighten up a bit this weekend again I think so I'm sure it will go up again.
Start weight..13st.5
Today 12st11
Next goal, 12st7

Trisolaris · 19/11/2020 17:33

Just came back from a run and my goodness itโ€™s freezing out there! Is everyone planning to continue running/exercising outdoors throughout the winter? I want to and have bought more layers but the cold air on the lungs is already getting tough and Iโ€™m wondering whether Iโ€™ll start to wuss out when it gets to the minus numbers!

SunshineCake · 20/11/2020 21:57

Hi @Trisolaris, well done for running in the cold. I haven't run since Tuesday due to back pain which has now spread but I hope to go again on Monday and will run in all weathers except ice and snow.

TheRealHousewife · 21/11/2020 15:15

Hi Everyone

No news other than Iโ€™m still bouncing about. Rarely go over cal limit but clearly itโ€™s enough to not be losing. One thing I am very poor on is getting the water in!

Wishing you all a great weekend (although the bloody lockdown dampens things a touch)

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 22/11/2020 19:47

I hope you've been getting your water in @TheRealHousewife! I know you like your apps and there is one for reminding one to drink water.

I did my first run since Tuesday tonight. I just did 3.2 km and my back was fine even though it had been hurting. I will run a proper distance tomorrow. I'd prefer to run before walking ddog but that means either going early, 6.25am early, or leaving her behind to take ds to school then back in to drop off keys and going again. Haven't done this in weeks so she would be confused and sad. Dh said I would put myself first not the dog. I wonder if he knows me at all!

FatGirlShrinking · 22/11/2020 23:39

Hi all, had a good weekend here. Xmas decorations are up as DD and DH couldn't wait a second longer ๐Ÿ˜†

Trying to balance keeping within my calories while feeling hungrier because of the colder weather. Exercise outdoors seems to make me ravenous but I get more relaxation and enjoyment from a walk/jog outdoors than an exercise video at home.

TheRealHousewife · 23/11/2020 08:55

Good Morning

@SunshineCake well done on run ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ You did good๐Ÿ‘ considering how deliberate tingling back pain can be. I think a water app would be good for me! I can have a jug on the counter and it still fails to prompt me!

@FatGirlShrinking A girl after my own heart! Posted you a festive pic to celebrate the start of festivities ๐Ÿฅณ Mine would be up by now but I was overruled. Compromise is outside lights going up this coming weekend and indoor trimmings the weekend after ๐ŸŽ„. I absolutely love Christmas and all the loving gestures, giving & sharing. Admittedly this year will be somewhat different.

Today is a fast day of 800. Spicy Asian Chicken soup for lunch and chicken and veggies for evening meal. A few pistachios before bed aka my sleep nuts ๐Ÿฅœ.

Stay Safe!
