Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs

Knitting my mum just won’t accept that my TDEE is 1400 calories right now, and would be 1300 calories if I reach my goal weight. She thinks it is way too low. But it genuinely isn’t - the reason I’ve put on weight, and the reason that she is overweight, is that we each eat in excess of this. But she sees those amounts as not enough. So I don’t mention it anymore, and when she asks I say that I am cutting down my portion sizes and walking lots. Which I am Smile

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/02/2021 15:49

It's nobodies business what you eat @WellTidy and everyone has an opinion on these things! As you say, keeping it quiet and playing it down is the way to go I think. And 12lbs weight loss is really going - you should be very pleased with yourself! I also find about 1/2 stone is a dress size. I've lost 1/2 stone and it's made a big difference so far. I know we're small (and I know I've said this before, sorry to be boring!) but the upside to being short is that while every lb you gain you really notice, on the flip side you also notice when you lose weight too!

Lol @Knittingnanny and your weigh in. Oh the things we do to see a lower number!

I’ve ordered some digital scales as my manual ones are insane and vary wildly day by day. I’m scared that I’m going to weigh more than I thought, I know this sounds so stupid but it’s a psychological thing and I if I have to tell MFP it will look like I’ve gained when I’ve actually lost. Feeling a bit 😨 about it all today. You are right about it showing quicker working both ways though @SwimmingOnEggshells

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 10:28

Scales have arrived and as I thought I’m heavier than I anticipated and I’m not sure of what my start weight was but I know I have lost weight as I can see it, I’m going to try really hard not to let this make me pack it all in but it’s difficult

SwimmingOnEggshells · 14/02/2021 10:36

Oh @Fembot123 that's so annoying and demoralising!! Could you avoid logging on MYP for a couple of weeks and hopefully you'll be at the digital scales weight soon? How much are you heavier by?

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 10:43

7 pounds more so not just a little but I guess I needed to be honest with myself and know what I’m dealing with. I have to be so careful as I’ve starved myself in the past as punishment and I want to do things right this time. I can only assume I weighed more than I’d guessed to begin with as i know I’ve lost some, I’ve definitely started to tighten up at least with all the exercise

SwimmingOnEggshells · 14/02/2021 11:15

Shitballs @Fembot123 that's exactly the difference between my analogue and digital, both are Salter.

Keep at all the good things you're doing though, keep going and don't let it make you feel like you want to give up!

Thanks 😊 I’ll have to dust myself and start again, at least I know the truth now so as I see it going down it I’ll know it’s the correct loss
Knittingnanny · 14/02/2021 11:33

It’s really annoying when that happens, like going to the surgery for my asthma review and they weigh me! Fortunately not this year, so next year hopefully the asthma nurse will say
“ wow story nanny you have lost a stone since the last review”
Or not, if my scales are vastly different to hers.
I’m having a day off calorie counting as my husband has bought me flowers and chocolate ( after I specifically said no chocolate, but he knows I was only partially serious!)
Steak chips mushrooms onion rings and peas for tea plus salted caramel cheesecake for pudding, probably adds up to a weeks worth of calories for shorties. Annoyingly doesn’t show on husbands body at all.
Hopefully will have a walk this afternoon along the beach between the predicted showers.

@Fembot123 can you edit your logged weights on MFP and manually add 7lbs on the them? It's not perfect but I think it's a good benchmark and a more realistic log of what actually happened.

And try not to be demotivated, instead think about how it's best to get an accurate measure now instead of in a few months' time.

I will do that 😁 I don’t MFP to judge me 🤣🤣 how stupid is that! Yes it’s best to get it sorted at the beginning and not lie to myself, that’s how I’ve put on the weight in the first place

Can I join too I am 4 ft 11 and 10 stone 6 pounds. I started Noom in December, a bad time with Christmas coming up! However with calorie counting etc I am just not losing anything and they tell me I am not eating enough!! I feel that being overweight is not good for my health and I am becoming rather down! Any suggestions?

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 15/02/2021 11:57

Hello is there room for one more?

I'm a 5 ft 1 formerly tiny person but I find myself at a whopping 11.10.

My weight gain journey is:
Before relationship/marriage - 8 stone would have me starting to cut down.
Before children - 8. 7 was the horror zone
After 1 child - 9.7 was the sky high limit.
After 3 more incl twins in my early 40s - 10 stone.
After lockdowns, 2 bereavements and surgery - here I am 11.10.

Its so refreshing to see a weightloss thread where smaller numbers are normal. Often I see people aiming for what is a huge number for me and I become complacent but I'm so unhappy with it and feeling all the bad health consequences are around the corner.

I'm aiming for 9 stone. I think any less would be a bit too discouraging. It would take me back 16 years. Low carb really works for me but with a biggish family, especially during lockdown, its not very practical. I haven't eaten any junk for a week and am aiming for portion control - afternoons are normally my downfall.

I'm looking forward to reaching some of your lows! First I need to not be complacent when the first pair of jeans fit.

Knittingnanny · 15/02/2021 13:12

Paddling, I understand where you are coming from, pre children I would have been horrified to have weighed nearer 9 stone than 8 and a half!
I was ok until I had child no 3 after a ten year gap, every part of my body seemed to enlarge.
My second husband is a real foodie and being Asian loves rice and oodles of noodles . We’ve been together 20 years and add in menopausal gain I partially blame him for being too good a cook!

Fembot123 · 15/02/2021 13:56

Welcome all! @Amenhotep, I’ve been doing the 16/8 and finding it manageable as I don’t feel deprived 😄

Amenhotep · 15/02/2021 15:02

Hi, what is the 16/8 please?🤔

Fembot123 · 15/02/2021 15:48

Intermittent fasting, so you eat in a 8 hour window and fast for 16 hours eg last meal at 6pm don’t eat again until 10am.

Amenhotep · 15/02/2021 16:25

Thank you fembot will try that, as you are asleep for a good bit of the time should not be too arduous🤗🤗

SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/02/2021 20:49

@Amenhotep I do my own version of 16:8 too and I find it very good. I'm not too strict with it though because I don't have black coffee in the mornings- always a skinny cappuccino. Then lunch is nearly always soup but I've branched out and now I like to spoil myself with an egg and toast 😂. Dinner as per usual, don't hold back there at all and then nothing afterwards. It's hard at first but once you're in the flow it gets easier.

And that's only midweek by the way, I ease off on the weekends but don't go mental gorging either. Not doing any exercise at the moment because I keep hurting my knee.

@paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking of course we have room for a fellow diminutive lady.

9 stone is a really good target as it puts you into normal bmi territory. You can do it! I wholeheartedly recommend 16:8 with a family as you still sit down to eat with everyone in the evening and eat the same meal.

Thank you all for the great info. I will report back🥰

Knittingnanny · 15/02/2021 22:40

I made a big mistake this morning, I offered to make up vast quantities of pancake batter in my vintage kenwood and distribute it to my local children and grandchildren to save them doing it. Yes please they all said. Well, there is/was a big jug full left for us to have tomorrow but I had no will power.
It was pancake day here today as a result. And there is more left for tomorrow.

Method · 15/02/2021 23:09

Oh dear @Knittingnanny, this is so easily done! I have some pityful looking bananas I know my hunband left to over ripe so I would make a banana cake... I'm dragging my heels as I will eat it (when it's still warm and caramelised... yum!)
This week end was a big write off, way too much yummy food. I was sad I only lost 100gr last week and thought "what's the point" and ate everything in sight. I'm on 900 calories today and not too hungry, so hopefully this is a reset.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 15/02/2021 23:52

Oh yes knittingnanny, I am 50 and perimenopausal which I left off the list and it certainly isn't helping (and is why I'm replying at nearly midnight, having gone to bed over an hour ago, bloody sleep!)

I'm so impatient though and find the days and days waiting for the scales to drop tortuous. So this time I am trying to focus on other things like sorting out my skin & looking after my hair and nails, areas i can see a faster improvement.

I dropped a pound yesterday (daily weigher) so expect that will be it for the week. Monumental will power required tomorrow with all the pancakes.

Morningmaeve · 16/02/2021 07:37

Pancakes planned here too - guess I'll have to be happy with staying the same weight again on Friday. Is disappointing that one little diet deviation can undo a week of good work for us shorter people.
