Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(
Age: 39

Morning all, hope you're all okay.

Happy to report half a pound off this week, which I'm very pleased with as had a few dodgy meals (pastry) and snacks (bombay mix and homemade biscuits). I've not drank and did the longest run in about years so that must have made the difference.

Start - 9st 10.8 lbs
Last week - 8st 13.8lbs
Today - 8st 13.1lbs

I'm aiming for 8st 10lbs by the 17th March. Not a special occasion, just the anniversary of lockdown. I'm finding linking this positive bit of my life to lockdown helps me see it as having some positive at least.

Brilliant stuff 🥳

Excellent @neverenoughchelseaboots. Not quite as good for me - 0.8lb off bringing me to 9st 3lb exactly - but I am still pleased. Surely I can get to 9st 2.something by next week? I'll settle for anything under 9at 3lb - just want to see that 2!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 05/02/2021 14:43

Brilliant @Morningmaeve. that's how my brain works too - looking for that next number change to keep it as an attainable goal.

I usually do a Monday quick weight check and if I've made it to the number then I'm motivated to keep it for the Friday log. And if not then I have to be good for few days to try and get it by the Friday.

The ways you can manipulate yourself! Grin

Hello shorties
So I’m still going, 5 weeks in now.
Starting weight - 54,6kg
Current weight - 51,6

So 3 kgs down in 5 weeks which I guess is good, but jeez I have worked hard, exercising every day, except Saturdays when I do yoga and keeping a strict food diary.
I’m quite surprised at my self discipline, but the exercise has become a habit now and working from home has made keeping a food diary is quite easy as I keep it next to my desk.

Keep going everyone, we’re doing great.

I’m feeling extra shortie today as my 12 year old DS is now taller than me!

Knittingnanny · 05/02/2021 18:52

Haha I saw my 10 yr old grandson at a distance today at the beach, he is same height as me now and has bigger size shoes!
Not too bad this week, I’ve kept the snacking under control a bit better in the evenings by knitting more furiously.
I’m going to weigh Monday and am hoping to either maintained or be 9 st 2.5

SwimmingOnEggshells · 05/02/2021 22:36

Under 9 stone @neverenoughchelseaboots awesome!

I'm back to 9stone on the button. I've made progress with my exercise bike- it's out of the shed and back in the spare room. Now to actually get on the damn thing and do some exercise:) happy weekend everyone.

@RainbowCookie I'm similar to you, 5 weeks in with a 6 lb loss so far and also exercising every day and watching food intake pretty strictly!

I find the weight loss quite slow, much slower than when I was younger but I guess 6 lbs is pretty good for a shortie!

Itsagoodday · 07/02/2021 16:44

Hi I’ve been following this as I am 5 foot well possibly 4foot 11and 3/4 but it’s easier to round it up. I’ve never been skinny but got to the stage where I was almost my full term pregnancy weight. Like the rest of you it was still only 9.5 stone. I’ve also lost 6 pounds so now down to 8.13 so pleased I’m out of the 9’s. Still a way to go as it’s so hard being small. Would like to get to 8.3 which was my weight 5 years ago.

PusheenLove · 08/02/2021 10:24

Hi shorties. I had the jab yesterday and am feeling ropey AF. Chills, fever, pounding headache, aches all over. But sods law I still have appetite! Hmm fml

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/02/2021 11:49

Hi everyone, we've all been very quiet lately. I hope you're all keeping well.

Things are so-so here for me, weekend wasn't great but I did use my exercise bike which might offset things a tiny bit. I'm managing to stick to the coffee for breakfast, soup for lunch, normal dinner (mostly) but it's just so tedious and I'm fed up of lockdown and this bitterly cold weather!

Welcome @Itsagoodday, it's so nice getting under 9stone, well done. I completely understand. For height-typical people being 8stone-something would probably be model-thin but not when you're as vertically challenged as we are :)

purples · 09/02/2021 20:19

Hi,
At 5.1 and 11 stone 7lb I'm feeling physically uncomfortable and need to lose weight
In my teens and 20s I was a size 8, but 2 children and more than 30 years later I need to start taking control of my weight.
I know this thread has been going for some time, but I'd like to join- I could really do with the motivation.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/02/2021 21:08

oh please do join @purples! it's been very quiet here lately and we need company, I think everyone is probably finding it had with lockdowns, homeschooling etc. Do you have a plan in place?

@lockdownrainbow be careful you eat enough and don't fall into the starvation-binge cycle. I think it's normal to stay at the same weight and then see a drop a week or so later. I find it doesn't come off immediately, or go on immediately for that matter either.

Today I had: coffee, special k, bowl of soup, small bowl of spag bol.

I've been getting out for a few walks with DH over the last week and it's been really lovely, closest thing we'll get to a date these days!

Itsagoodday · 10/02/2021 08:01

I know I’ve done quite well this year so far but now hit some hurdles I really hope doesn’t stop me losing weight.
I was running regularly but sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago. I’m not sure how long I will have to rest it, could be up to 6-8 weeks. Any tips of exercising with an out of action ankle. Also I’ve just started taking HRT and I don’t know how this will affect me, I’m worried that it might increase my weight. Anyone with experience of this?

Wargghhhh · 10/02/2021 08:16

@Itsagoodday have you thought about weights? just using a set of dumbbells might be a good way of exercising with a sprained ankle.

There's loads of good YouTube videos - you could just miss out any exercises that require you to bear weight on your legs.

I think the menopause in general does mean you put on weight - or at least weight is harder to lose! I had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago and since then I've found the weight is harder to shift unfortunately. I'm not sure about HRT though.

Itsagoodday · 10/02/2021 08:31

Thanks Wargghhh Yes I have been doing some arm exercises with dumbbells.
I am not in menopause yet but having symptoms so I felt I needed it. I will have to see how it goes, it’s definitely much harder to lose weight now than it was even 5 years ago.

WellTidy · 10/02/2021 09:17

Morning all

I posed back in October, and then promptly failed to do anything more about my weight loss.

But in January, I decided to get on track. I've lost 11lb, and am now 10st 2lb. My goal weight is 8st 8lb, so I have 1 stone 6lb left to lose (for my reference, that is 20lb!). But I would be absolutely delighted to be under 9 stone, to be honest. And then my clothes would finally fit.

I'm 5 foot 1 and 45. I'm counting calories, trying to stick to under 1000 a day (my TDEE is 1450 right now) and walk twice a week, 7-8 miles each time. The snow and ice have put paid to that this week, so I need to get a DVD out or find something on Youtube. That will be a shock to the system!

The weight is getting harder to shift in the last ten days or so. I weigh daily, or otherwise I could veer wildly off track. It helps keep me accountable. I have breakfast, then something small for lunch and then the same dinner as the rest of the family (adjusting portion size). I also have something sweet every day - at the moment, its two ginger biscuits. Don't think I can lose those, but I may get to a point where needs must.

lockdownrainbow · 10/02/2021 13:10

Back down to 10lbs lost 1lb went for a long walk

lockdownrainbow · 10/02/2021 13:12

I am 42 i was skinny up until 40s could eat what i wanted now put it on i have 1st 6lbs to lose to get to 9st

Fembot123 · 10/02/2021 13:29

My scales arrived today and I’m 10’7, last time I weighed myself last year I was 10’9 so even if I was more than that I’ve managed to lose rather than gain. My goal is 9’5-9’7 which sounds a lot for a shortarse but my build is muscular so I have to factor that in 😁

neverenoughchelseaboots · 10/02/2021 15:29

Hey new folk 👋, good to have you, like Swimming says, we need a bit more action on here at the mo.

Not much to say here, I think I've found my groove on what's liveable and gets consistent but slow results. So still not eating meat, still moving around plenty and getting a couple of runs in, still having an early dinner and still (mostly) laying off the wine.

Not sure I'll lose much this week as it just so happened that there was quite a bit of pastry on the menu this week. But looks like I'm heading for a tiny loss or maintain.

Tonight is prawn pad Thai and tomorrow is a tapas of all the different bits of leftover dhals and chickpea curries that have accumulated in the freezer.

That all sounds yum 🤤
