Ah @Minnie123456, what a shame. I’m sorry you’re going through that Flowers

Alicatz66 · 12/05/2020 15:44

@RaskolnikovsGarret .. just being a pig really !! ... using the lockdown excuse to eat everything in sight and drink all the wine ! Trying to lose the wine habit but now craving sweets ! ... May resume but with low carb as I obsess too much over food when I count calories!

diege · 12/05/2020 15:57

minnie I'm so sorry for your losses. Be kind to yourself x
Migraine has lessened thank God. I take propranolol twice a day to help prevent, but have also got emergency sumatriptan when they don't work. A dose of the latter has worked, though horrible sinus pain now which is the drug's pay off!
I read Normal People a few months ago and to be honest I didn't enjoy it. Loved the bit up to uni, then felt the rest a little self obsessed, and I didn't really care for any of the characters (possibly Connell?) The prose is very stark too, but horses for courses! I must say that the actors they've cast for the series are how I'd imagined the two from the book. Might give it a peek!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/05/2020 16:11

There’s quite a lot of navel-gazing and self-obsession, @diege but I think that’s part of the theme of the story. It’s a coming of age story. The characters are at that stage of their lives when they’re lost up their own backsides and going through massive identity crises and personal growth.

diege · 12/05/2020 16:27

I might give it a go - I'd be interested to hear what you think of the book; I know it's a bit 'marmite' on mumsnet!
Going to attack my roots now 😩😩😩 and then think about tea!

redavocado · 12/05/2020 16:35

I watched the first episode last night and loved it. I wasn't super keen on the book. It was good but for me didn't quite live up to the hype.

cashmerecardigans · 12/05/2020 16:44

Just dropping in to say I’m doing really badly so not expecting a loss this week. I seem totally unmotivated but sticking here is making me accountable and that is at least making me stop and think, rather than mindlessly eat. I think that’s all I can do at the moment.
Probably a reflection of feeling generally gloomy, am WFH, so am grateful for that, but I am missing people and finding it hard.

Bella444 · 12/05/2020 16:52

Hi! Can I join in?

Really need to bite the bullet and get on the scales to see where I am. I think about 13 stone Confused ideally I'd like to be 11. Think calorie counting is going to be the way forward! 2lbs a week would be amazing Smile.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/05/2020 17:09

Best of luck with the hair, @diege.

I feel the same, @cashemerecardigans. I’m finding it pretty hard to stick to no snacking at the mo but sticking around on here because I like the chat and it does keep me accountable. I do think if I wasn’t here and on the c25k thread, I’d be gaining. At least if I hang around here and maintain within 3lbs of my start weight (which is probably what is going to happen if I’m realistic), it’ll be fine. Gaining would be bad. Maintaining, Ok. Losing, fantastic.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/05/2020 17:09

Hi @Bella444

lovinglavidaloca · 12/05/2020 17:44

I’m starving with my OH would hurry up and get home so we can have dinner!

Watching Mary Poppins returns with the kids. Does anyone agree the newer Mary is too harsh and prim? Original Mary seemed much kinder.

I’m aiming for 2lbs per weeks too @Bella444. I’ve lost 7 so far and it’s taken me 5 weeks which is a bit disappointing but I’ll get there.

Already looking forward to getting to a stage where I’m maintaining and have extra calories each day Grin

cashmerecardigans · 12/05/2020 17:52

Thanks @JonHammIsMyJamm , Same here, if I don't gain that's a bonus. I've made bad food choices today and am feeling bloated so have gone for a bath. Took a peek at the scales and I'm up 2lb plus my fat content has jumped too. Hoping that gives me a bit of a kick but let's see what choices I make tomorrow. Home made soup tonight for dinner

MrsSnitchnose · 12/05/2020 18:00

Little motivation for the day Smile

Welcome to the thread @Bella444

Thanks everyone!

How do you come up with a daily calorie allowance? I have My Fitnesspal.

lovinglavidaloca · 12/05/2020 18:11

@Bella444 use a TDEE calculator online and you should get the figures you need.

Bella444 · 12/05/2020 18:24

Thank you @lovinglavidaloca

The calculator says maintenance is 1835. To lose a pound a week I would need 500 calories a day less? So 1335 a day? Even less to lose more?

lovinglavidaloca · 12/05/2020 18:32

Yep! Ours are really similar then. I eat 1300 calories but then aim to burn a good few hundred a day as well to get my total down. Working well so far. Realistically eating 800 per day just wouldn’t work.

Bella444 · 12/05/2020 18:42

Yep! I'm fed up of faddy diets and want this to be sustainable.

Will let you all know how it's going Confused. Thanks for the help!

cashmerecardigans · 12/05/2020 20:13

Right, I've just eaten the last square of chocolate. DH is up for not buying any more, so hopefully that'll cut off tha supply Smile

lovinglavidaloca · 12/05/2020 20:47

Woohoo just been my first run (well, run/walk combo) for well over 6 months and managed much better than I thought I would.

Queenoftheashes · 12/05/2020 21:56

@lovinglavidaloca yes new Mary Poppins couldn’t pull it off in same way. But who can follow Julie Andrews ?
Well done on the run!

Minnie123456 · 12/05/2020 23:36

Thank you everyone for your kind messages. I don't want to fall too far off the wagon or I might not get back on it again.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 13/05/2020 08:04

My new scales have a body fat percentage thing on them too, @cashmerecardigans but I need to do something with an app so I’ve not bothered with it. I should try it.

AutumnNymph · 13/05/2020 09:24

Sorry for dropping off again but I am back now. Didn't lose anything this week and this is the kick I needed - okay I am going to clean up my act and sort myself this week.

Breakfast is a protein shake - will sort something healthy for lunch - going to start 16:8 from today. My eating window will promptly shut at 6 pm today and resume at 10 am tomorrow.

lovinglavidaloca · 13/05/2020 10:31

Garmin just told me my fitness age is 20! I’ll take that since I’m now much closer to 30! Grin

@AutumnNymph what are protein shakes actually like? Nice? I know I don’t eat enough protein but I just have in my head they’d be disgusting so I’ve never bought any.

Boiled eggs for breakfast here this morning and will have butternut squash soup for lunch. Dinner is macaroni (shop bought) with garlic bread. Should have just under 400 calories left for treats. Can’t complain at that Smile

Feeling so positive at the moment!
