16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

Thanks for that I will try and push through!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/05/2020 10:17

I'm currently doing 1200 calories per day combined with 16:8

Moo678 · 19/05/2020 10:23

Thanks for all the info and inspiration. I've started today. Going to eat 11-7. Got up and had a black coffee then cycled to work. Feeling quite hungry now - hoping my body will get used to it quickly!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/05/2020 11:45

Totally agree that once you start eating, you end up hungrier! It is hard at the start but stick with it, you definitely get used to not having breakfast. I think if you're not going to restrict calories in any way, i.e. just rely on the fasting process to lose weight, then you really have to get that right - so absolutely no calories during your fast time. If you have milk in drinks it will definitely affect the fasting and you might not see as good results.

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 19/05/2020 13:03

I'm day 6 into this and could cry with relief. I don't want to be premature but it seems like I've finally found a way to manage my weight (even if it's not quick?) that will allow me to live like a normal person!
One tip I've found though so far is to eat slowly when you break your fast. I tend to scoff and end up with a stomachache! Ate slowly just a while ago and feel much better.

Siameasy · 19/05/2020 13:51

It feels like it shrinks your stomach. I get full really fast. Just eating now.
So glad it’s working monkey. I was ruled by food before 16:8 and HFLC. I’ve done 24hr fasts and one meal a day easily now.
It is hard at the start but it works better with low carb as I find carbs in general trigger hunger for me

bluefoxmug · 19/05/2020 14:05

I imagine a toddler plate for food proportions. the big compartment for veg/salad. the 2 smaller for meat/sauce and pasta/rice/potatos.

ideally have wholegrain or potatos with skins. steamed veg are very filling.

@sbh1991
Thank you so much for starting this thread. I have struggled my whole adult life to not overeat and am constantly trying to cut down then slipping up and thinking sod it will start again tomorrow. I would then massively overeat. It was such a depressing cycle but having stumbled across this thread a couple of weeks ago I thought why not give it a go.
It has been a revelation ! I am eating between 1 and 9 and for the first time in I don't know how long I feel like my eating is under control.
I don't know if I will lose any weight or not but I don't even care too much about that anymore . I am just so happy to be able to eat what I want until I am full and then the overnight fast doesn't seem to be bothering me much at all.

Freetodowhatiwant · 19/05/2020 15:15

I did it last last and it really worked for me. Got down to my lightest in a long time (60 kilos, am 5.5 and currently 67/66kg). It was great to feel good in a bikini during the summer. I did it for a few weeks before lockdown and for some reason it doesn’t work this time. I might try again though as I really want to lose that 6 or kilos before roper summer. I’m now hungry in the mornings though when I had got out of the habit of being. I was sticking to 11am-7pm.

Mrsemcgregor · 20/05/2020 11:34

The only fast I had heard of was the 5:2 which just didn’t work for me. So I am excited to try this! I haven’t eaten anything yet today and will start with an egg sandwich with cucumber and tomato for lunch at 12 and then a spag bol with garlic bread for dinner at 5. Then a snack before 8pm, probably cheese! I really hope this works for me!

Weighed this morning -
11s5lb (Half a stone heavier than Xmas!)
5’8”

MyCatsSlave · 20/05/2020 11:50

I’d like to join you please. I was doing 17/7 until feb when I went on holiday and then have done nothing but eat since lock down started. Today’s my first day back on it and I’m waiting until 12.30 for my first meal. Would like to be back in a size 12 in a few months, currently I’m between a 14 and 16 depending on the clothes.

Moo678 · 20/05/2020 12:35

I would love more examples of what people are eating once their windows open. I'm trying to eat sensibly but also not to deny myself things - I'd like this to be a lifestyle not a diet. So yesterday I had a small square of homemade chocolate brownie after my dinner.

I ended up finishing dinner at 6:30 yesterday (toddler fell off her chair) and then didn't get a chance to eat at work until 12 so inadvertently did 17.5 hrs. I felt a wee bit sick before bed last night but totally fine today.

bluefoxmug · 20/05/2020 12:49

I have chocolate most days.
just a small bar or a few squares of dark (55%)
lunch would be 2 slices of bread/cheese a couple of tomatos or slices of cucumber. an apple or banana.
dinner meat&2veg/pasta whatever really plus a bit of chocolate after.

Mycatsmellsbad · 20/05/2020 13:03

Interesting thread thanks. I’ve been doing this for 5 days now - eating only between 1-9pm, 9-1200 calories.

I’ve literally not lost an ounce!! How soon should you start to see results? I’m using mfp and being meticulous so I don’t think I’m missing anything.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/05/2020 14:11

I'm definitely watching what I eat during my eating window. Rarely eat bread, and never any biscuits or chocolate (my downfall every time) Actually no snacks at all now that I think of it. I drink lots of water and coffee, and just have lunch and dinner. Lunch yesterday was a big bunch of asparagus roasted in the oven with a little olive oil, garlic salt, onion granules and chilli flakes. On top of that I had a poached egg. So tasty I've had this quite a lot lately as asparagus is on offer in our local Lidl!! Dinners are 'normal' so last night was filled pasta in a tomato sauce, night before was chicken & veg stirfry with rice noodles, night before that was homemade pizza with pepperoni, sweetcorn, pineapple and cheese on top. We've had chips and rice and sauces etc. so not really cut back in terms of the dinners but definitely I've cut out snacks and cut back on what I'd usually eat for lunch. And of course, no breakfast. I'm 10.5 pounds down now, despite having a few drinks over the weekend!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/05/2020 14:13

@Mycatsmellsbad it was at least a week before I saw any movement on the scales even though I felt and looked less bloated etc.

I now only weigh myself first thing in the morning every Thursday.

fataroundthemiddle · 20/05/2020 14:26

Isadora download the BodyFast app.You don't have to pay for it.You can measure your hips, waist and more, fill in the app then keep track not only of the weight loss but of the inches too.I find it also encourages me to drink more water.Have a look

Mrsemcgregor · 21/05/2020 08:01

Day 2! I had a snack of cheese, tomato and cucumber at 19:45 last night and now I’m on the black tea and coffee until 12. How’s everyone this morning?

Moo678 · 21/05/2020 08:29

Hi @Mrsemcgregor

I’m on day 3. Finished dinner at 6:30 last night then accidentally ate a grape at 7:25 so now can’t eat until 11:30!! Last couple of days have been fine eating 11-7 but I’m at home with the kids today so slightly apprehensive! Had two cups of black coffee this morning and feeling ok so far.

wizzbangfizz · 21/05/2020 08:30

Bit defeated this morning as I have done my weekly weigh in and stayed the same but I did come on my period yesterday so feel very bloated and crap

Moo678 · 21/05/2020 08:36

@wizzbangfizz I’ve been reading loads about IF and lots of people say it can be a couple of weeks before you start seeing losses. I’ve promised myself I’ll keep going even if I don’t lose this week.

Mrsemcgregor · 21/05/2020 08:39

wizzbang I always retain water on my period so fingers crossed that’s what it is. I so badly want this plan to work!!!

moo I’m also alone with the kids all morning, it’s going to be tough when I am constantly preparing snacks for them!!

bluefoxmug · 21/05/2020 08:43

wiss totally normal (and frustrating). before the period the body holds on to extra fluids, that can be an extra pound, even though you oversll have lost weight.
measure yourself around your waist. and measure again in a couple of weeks.

wizzbangfizz · 21/05/2020 08:54

Yep thanks an def going to do measurements today as I'm starting some exercise so that will def help hopefully.

Siameasy · 21/05/2020 08:57

Oh I seem to inflate just before my period and the first few days - I wouldn’t even bother weighing then
