16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

A tiny dash of milk is fine! I used to hate black tea and coffee but now love it. I think you get used to it quickly. If not just add a tiny bit of milk.

Weaverspin · 10/05/2020 18:03

I will usually eat between 12-7pm. I found I didn't want breakfast - and in fact when I ate it, I would be hungrier for the rest of the day. I do have a couple of mugs of tea in the morning - with some soya milk (I am allergic to dairy), but I find that keeps me going. I know many advicate a 'clean' fast where you have no calories at all in your 16 hours, but I'm not giving up my tea! Then a light lunch, mid-afternoon snack, light tea, then that's it.

I find if I eat anything sugary - biscuits are my downfall - then I get hungrier and seem to lose will-power, so it's best I just don't eat them. I don't like cake, which is handy. Apart from biscuits I don't have a sweet tooth.

Basically, it works for me because I'm just eating less - I'm cutting out a meal and 2 snacking opportunities (mid-morning and late evening). Knowing that the kitchen is shut is what I need to keep me focussed. Otherwise I graze constantly, and it just adds up. I love brazil nuts and walnuts - healthy in (very) small quantities, but it's too easy to grab a few every time I go into the kitchen.

I don't have lots to loose, but if I don't get a grip now things are going to get harder. Plus my summer clothes won't fit if I'm not careful!

SallyWD · 10/05/2020 18:05

I would just say to everyone give it 2 weeks. I struggled the first 2 weeks because I was eating at different times and my body wasn't used to it. After 2 weeks there was no turning back!

bumpsadaisy11 · 10/05/2020 22:50

Thank you so much @SallyWD you've been so helpful & informative x

HerRoyalNotness · 11/05/2020 04:08

Thanks @SallyWD. I do have a watered down OJ for meds first thing. I should cut that out too. I’ll keep at it. I’ve found at least I’m less hungry and because of the 8pm deadline I’ve been able to stick to that with no late night snacks

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2020 04:35

I’ve just seen this thread. I need to get back on 16/8. It’s hard because I’ve been ill for so long. My weight has spiralled. I used to be skinny. I’m double the weight I was in my teens. My body is unrecognisable. 😞

MsTSwift · 11/05/2020 06:11

Weaver I have found the same as you. If I have breakfast or have something I get hungrier but if I eat nothing I’m fine. If I get hungry in the morning I have a coffee I do have Semi skimmed milk in it life’s too short! Still lost the weight so reckon it’s fine.

Neighbours just shared street party photos and thrilled I look so slim in them.

timeforawine · 11/05/2020 07:02

I do it every day, every fortnight i have a non fast day.
I found i lost about 6lb in the first few days easily but after that i did need to exercise and watch what i ate a little, started at the gym 2 or 3 times a week about 3 weeks before lockdown and by lockdown had lost about a stone.
Now I'm at home I'm eating worse, doing Joe Wicks, have stayed the same weight, so need to start watching what i eat more now as still got another maybe 2 stone to lose

efeslight · 11/05/2020 07:06

Also tried this a 2 years ago and lost a few kilos. Will be starting again and i have put it all back on recently.

SallyLovesCheese · 11/05/2020 07:15

I've just started this! Saw it on another thread. I download the app Body Fast, which isn't needed but I find it helps to have something to track my weight and measurements on and give me reminders when I'm coming in or out of a fast period (love an app!). I just use the free 16:8 plan and eat midday till 8pm.

I was finding in the evenings I would eat crisps and chocolate and biscuits around 9-10pm (I have a toddler so I'm up at odd hours). I tried WW but in my mind was still allowed to eat after dinner and my willpower is so weak when I'm tired so I'd overeat. Now, in my mind, as another poster said, "the kitchen is closed" at 8PM so I've had 3 evenings where I haven't snacked at all! I'm looking forward to weighing in on Friday and hope there's some difference. I really feel like this is finding I could stick at long-term and not be stressed about food.

SallyLovesCheese · 11/05/2020 07:17

I didn't mean 9-10pm were odd hours! Just that my body doesn't get the whole night sleep thing so I just tend to nap and eat when I can.

thecapitalsunited · 11/05/2020 08:20

Ive been doing 16:8 since mid-January with the exception of a week when I was on antibiotics for a UTI and needed to eat a meal before I took them to avoid horrendous nausea and a few weekends away. I use the Zero app to keep track of my fasts, Fitbit to keep track of weight because I have an Aria scale, MyFitnessPal to pull my weight data from Fitbit into Apple Health which then syncs into Zero. It’s a massive faff and I should probably just manually put the weight into Zero 😂

I had about 150lbs to lose and so far have got rid of 21lbs. I’m a big binge eater and have found, like others, that if the kitchens closed it makes it easier to resist. I’ve also found that if I slip up and binge it’s easier to get back on track because there’s no eating plan to break so I haven’t really done anything wrong.

I’m hoping that averaging a pound a week will make it easier for me to keep off in the long term. I took me years to put all this weight on so I can expect a quick fix. But it is the easiest ‘diet’ I’ve ever done and does seem to get results for me.

borrowworrow · 11/05/2020 10:38

Can I ask those already doing it, please - are you hungry in your fast time? Do you just learn to put up with it?

MsTSwift · 11/05/2020 10:49

Weirdly am fine in morning not hungry really and function well. Sometimes struggle in evenings if very hungry I have small bowl of muesli before I go to sleep but usually manage not to

slug · 11/05/2020 10:57

I drink loads of green tea. This seems to kill off the hunger pangs. I have turned into a total green tea snob though. None of that nasty stuff from Tescos for me, I get mine online here www.kensingtontea.com/

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 11/05/2020 11:17

@borrowworrow I find I'm hungry in the mornings for the first 3-4 days after restarting but my body soon gets used to, once I start eating for the day though I start to feel hungry though which just proves the point that eating in the morning kickstarts your appetite every day.

thecapitalsunited · 11/05/2020 11:32

I do get hungry about 11am - I tend to do 1pm-9pm - but hot drinks do make the hunger pangs go away. The first few days to a week are the hardest but you do get used to it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2020 11:36

I am going back on it today. Thanks to everyone posting. I’m feeling spurned on.

I find the first few days difficult. Then the body adjusts. Drinking marmite helps for me a lot. I am someone, who needs a lot of salt.

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 11/05/2020 12:22

Mummy same here I stopped a couple of months ago when I had a bad illness and never restarted but I'm back on it from tomorrow! Should be easier now I'm WFH as well as I can have a bagel or something at 10am rather than just a piece of fruit which is what I do when I'm in the office.

lovemyfurrywuff · 11/05/2020 12:25

This is the first time I've ever heard of this. Thank you all for talking about it. I'm piling the weight on after stopping keto a year ago. I'm going to give this a go.

FelicityFlockheart · 11/05/2020 12:32

I eat between 12pm & 6pm ish and this suits me. I calorie count and consume between 1000 & 1400 cals in this window, depending on what I'm eating.

Works well for me

Rockbird · 11/05/2020 12:34

I'm going to give it a try and eat from 11 to 7. That works for being at work too. I can have my mid morning banana before lunch at 1.

Let's see how this goes..🤞🏻

Milicentbystander72 · 11/05/2020 12:35

Oh god I think I must try this.

I'm so down. I'm going through Menopause and I've ballooned to 17.5 stone although I walk everyday fur hours with the dog. I constantly feel bloated, aches and unwell.
I've been on and off diets since was 16 years old. I'm naturally around a size 12/14 I think but I can't go on like this. I feel AWFUL.

I think I could manage eating late in the morning. I often feel I don't want breakfast anyway and naturally have an early lunch about 12.

Rockbird · 11/05/2020 12:35

Eat between not eat from. Clearly that's where I've been going wrong Grin

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 11/05/2020 12:41

I love the 16:8 diet! Honestly the only thing I've tried that helps me lose weight but doesn't "feel" like a diet as I eat what I like. I find it really compatible with family life too. I vary it a little depending on my appetite that day but I usually start eating for the day around 2pm- sometimes I'll move it to 1:30 to have lunch with a friend or back a little if I'm busy and not too hungry. Then I can eat dinner with my son at his dinner time and still have time for an evening chocolate snack after he's in bed!

I drink black coffee and green tea in the mornings until I can eat. I think the "rules" state that you can have a little bit of milk in your coffee for those asking.

There's a lot of interesting emerging science around intermittent fasting. And losing some weight to get into a healthy weight range is always going to be good for you too. If you're interested in some of the research look up some articles on Pubmed or similar.
