16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

Wizz give yourself a chance! I thought I was impatient! I would plateau for a while then scales would lurch down. I started 16 / 8 in October (but adapted for my own body) and had lost 2 stone by January. Now maintaining nicely. Was 11.5 st now 9.5 st Need to get new summer clothes though was a 14 now a 10 😁

HappyHoppyHippo · 21/05/2020 09:16

@MsTSwift that's amazing 👍 well done you.
That really gives me hope :)

I’ve found my downfall is picking at DC’s food without even thinking! I’m fasting til 12 and this morning I made DC some cheesy pasta for his lunch, without even thinking I put a tiny bit in my mouth! It was only 1 piece but it’s this totally mindless picking that I need to get a hold on.

Siameasy · 21/05/2020 10:29

Oh I used to do that Moon. Bloody macaroni cheese was one of my faves. If she leaves food I throw it straight in the bin now

I read on here I think "don't be your children's dustbin" when it comes to leftovers - it is a real weakness of mine! Looking forward to breaking my fast in 40 mins going to have salmon fillet roasted asparagus poached egg and some avocado - high fat and protein!

Mrsemcgregor · 21/05/2020 11:54

Unfortunately our shopping day is tomorrow so there isn’t much healthy fresh food in the kitchen. Today it’s pesto pasta for lunch and beige freezer food (Fish fingers, waffles, that kind of thing Blush) for dinner. Hopefully if I don't have too much I will get away with it!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 21/05/2020 12:02

As a non breakfast eater, 16:8 is my completely normal and natural way of eating and I have been doing it for over 20 years. I don't have a sweet tooth so very rarely eat pudding, cakes or biscuits.

I'm still a good 30lb overweight though Grin.

prettygreenteacup · 21/05/2020 13:21

I've just had a hard boiled egg, few cubes of cheese, a nectarine and three oat and banana cookies (made with oats, banana and a bit of peanut butter!). That's me done now until dinner time. Having steak pie, sweet potato wedges and peas. Onto my third bottle of water too!

covidmonkey · 21/05/2020 16:11

I don't eat breakfast usually so this is quite normal for me. I try to eat lunch at 12 and dinner at 6. No snacking. Let's see.

Queenonfleek · 21/05/2020 16:19

so is the plan that you stick to your calorie allowance during the 8 hour window? What is the gain from spreading same calories over a longer window?

bluefoxmug · 21/05/2020 16:51

there are some anti-inflamnatory effects to fasting.
chronic inflammation is linked to diabetes and high blood pressure.

Queenonfleek · 21/05/2020 17:40

OK that is interesting as I have RA - will see what impact it has on that - as well as my ass!

CrazyPrepared · 21/05/2020 18:24

Can I join in? Started this Monday so far all good, havnt got a lot to lose although elasticated waistbands have been my best friend lately Blush ] I eat between 11-7 but can often go longer as I’m not massively hungry in the mornings, now need to up my water and exercise.

tumpymummy · 21/05/2020 18:33

Ok, I need to try this. I need to lose lockdown pounds. I dont eat a lot during the day, evenings are my downfall when I like to eat sweet things after dinner. Think I'll start with 1pm to 9pm. I like the sound of the kitchens closed so I cant have it after 9pm.

SkeletonSkins · 21/05/2020 18:38

I’ve been doing this for 8 days now, I’ve noticed that I’m less hungry in the mornings and also my appetite is less - I’m full much more quickly. I’ve also remembered that I don’t die if I get hungry, so for example even in my eating window, when it’s nearly tea time I don’t feel the need to snack, I wait until it’s time to eat instead. I think in a way, I was almost scared of being hungry and I’d eat breakfast for example so that I wouldn’t get hungry during the morning but I’ve now realised that it’s fine to be a bit hungry and it makes me enjoy my food more.

TacoLover · 21/05/2020 20:21

I've started today!

Oddgirlout · 22/05/2020 08:14

I've been eating like this too. I realised though that I wasn't counting wine outside of the window! Am trying to change that. Anyone know how many calories there are in alcohol? How much if an affect could this have made?

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 22/05/2020 08:21

You could be looking at 150 a glass in wine, if you want something try having spirits with slimline tonic or lemonade, you still shouldn't be having them during fasting but i do have a couple of gins maybe 3 days a week

bluefoxmug · 22/05/2020 08:21

american, but good everview
200ml red wine is about 133kcl

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/05/2020 10:20

Don't drink your calories!!

A fitness instructor used to shout that at us along with "abs are made in the kitchen" He was right!

I find the MyFitnessPal food database really helpful to find out how many calories are in things. It has practically everything you could think of, all the UK shops and brands etc. here's the link

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/05/2020 10:23

And as today is weigh-in day for me, I'm down 11.5 pounds Smile

For me, the biggest hurdle is not having bread. I love it so so much. And chocolate. But I'm an all-or-nothing sort of person. I know if I had one slice I'd end up scoffing lots more, so it's actually easier in the long run to have none at all. God, I still miss it though

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/05/2020 10:33

I’m doing 20:4 and finding it fine. I lost over a stone fasting last year. Went from 12 stone 3 to
10 stone 12. During lockdown I ballooned to 11 stone 10 and am now back down to 11 stone 7 so I need to get rid of that half stone again 🙄🙄

I agree about the mindless eating that goes on. Just popping stuff in your mouth without your brain registering it. I find fasting easier than standard dieting because there’s zero extra effort required. When I’ve done plans before there’s so much prep and I just don’t have time for it with two young kids, so I’d end up just eating toast.

SkeletonSkins · 22/05/2020 11:09

Yes so true about the zero effort involved. I also like that I can have a regular meal with DH as long as it’s vaguely healthy, eg tonight we’re having barbecue crumbed chicken and will probably have veg and some sweet potato fries with it. If I was on SW I’d be faffing about making it from scratch with various random ingredients so I can count the syns and I’ve been there, done that, and now can’t be arsed.

Really pleased with myself as I’ve just completed a 30 min work out which was tough, I had to stop for a breather after 20 mins but I went back and completed it. Going to walk my dog’s and then it’ll be time to break my fast, easy peasy!

Definitely noticing my appetite is reducing and I’m craving less.

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/05/2020 11:19

That’s exact how I feel. I can’t be doing with quark and bloody cauliflower rice. I’ve done that, it tasted like shit, what’s the point. Why not just eat nice tasting food but far less of it!!
