16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

Beach for me it was eating a bit too quickly that caused that, I know it might not be for you! I make an effort to relax and chew slowly/eat mindfully and it's really helped.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 08:28

I think stomach upsets are common in the first few weeks and then go away.

vinotinto88 · 01/06/2020 08:33

Hi all, today is day 1 for me. I've gained a stone during lockdown and we are going to TTC again soon so want to be in decent shape if it happens!

A few questions - can you take vitamins during the fast? Or shall I wait to take them in my eating window. I'm taking a multivitamin plus folic acid.

Also - I'm going to drastically reduce my alcohol intake but am I allowed a cheeky wine during my eating window?

Finally! How long until I can see results. A stone is an awful lot of weight to lose!

MissFitton · 01/06/2020 08:33

Totally fell off the 16:8 wagon this weekend so back on it today. 1st of the month so my aim by the end of June is to be back to pre lockdown weight.

SallyWD · 01/06/2020 08:39

@vinotinto88 Hope it works well for you! I take vitamins with food so not during the fasting time. Don't know if makes any difference though. Yes you can have alcohol during the 8 hours. I only drink once or twice a week these days as it just leads to so much snacking for me. I had good results in the first week but others are saying it took 2 weeks or more.

Lordamighty · 01/06/2020 08:41

I still have alcohol doing 16:8 but that’s because I don’t want it to feel like a diet. I think it is more of a lifestyle change than a quick fix, which makes it more sustainable & long term more successful than other diets.

vinotinto88 · 01/06/2020 08:43

Yep my dieting history so far is shocking. I'll get chunky and then go to the extreme and just live off protein shakes for a week, lose 4lbs and then binge because I've been so deprived.
I know I need a lifestyle change, I just worry without quick(ish) results I'll lose motivation and go back to the binge cycle.

SkeletonSkins · 01/06/2020 09:46

Just came to say yesssss another lb gone! Really happy with that. So in three weeks I’ve lost 7lb. Plus it’s so warm today, I put on my normal uniform of jeans and a T-shirt and was just too hot so decided to just try one of my summery dresses to see how it was and it looks fine! So that’s an achievement as I wouldn’t have felt comfortable in it three weeks ago.

SkeletonSkins · 01/06/2020 09:47

It’s not as quick as a crash diet, it’s just not, but I think the thing is with it is you don’t mine waiting a bit longer because it’s actually easy and fine to do? I don’t feel like I’m missing out on food or restricting myself, I’m just waiting.
vinotinto88 · 01/06/2020 09:53

@SkeletonSkins Although 7lbs in three weeks is impressive. Can I ask what your typical day looks like?
I'm 5"7 currently 10st6lbs although usually 9st7lbs (ish) so I would like to lose a stone and then maintain.

Moo678 · 01/06/2020 10:04

@SkeletonSkins

That's great. Well done you. You've inspired me to stay strong and keep going. I haven't lost anything this week and feeling slightly hard done by as I've totally stuck to 16:8. Will just keep going and hope the scales start to shift this week.

snappycamper · 01/06/2020 10:09

I've also not lost any weight after a week of this but am going to keep at it as I'm finding it quite easy. I'm sticking to 2 meals per day but even if I was squeezing 3 in I'd still be consuming fewer calories than normal just by cutting out my evening snacking

snappycamper · 01/06/2020 10:10

Have been drinking herbal tea during fast time so wondering if I need to cut that out

bluefoxmug · 01/06/2020 10:17

unless you sweeten it, herbal tea is fine.

I like yogi/chai teas, basically kitchen spice in a teabag.

or cut a small slice off a ginger root and pour over boiling water.

or fresh lemon balm or fresh mint. very refreshing and very different to tea bags.

I didn’t lost much at all the first week, maybe 1lb but keep going, it starts to happen. Plus you find you’re much less hungry.

Haha I’m probably not the best person to ask this. I’m not hugely healthy at all to be honest.

Lunch - either a bowl of cereal (bad I know) or a ham salad wrap with a really small drizzle of light mayo, some form of fruit eg I love raspberries, sometimes pineapple. Sometimes have a bag of quavers cause they’re low calorie. Sometimes have cake.

Tea - Sometimes something like chicken and veg, or sweet potato fries, omelette and veg. If I have rice or pasta I have wholemeal versions but I still have it.
I have a chocolate yoghurt after tea.

I don’t snack between meals, I don’t drink any alcohol. But I eat a fair amount of sugar tbh.

SkeletonSkins · 01/06/2020 10:29

I should add I get full a lot quicker than I used to so my portions are smaller.

Onthebrink67 · 01/06/2020 10:33

Completely disastrous weekend after being in it for a week but starting again with day one today . Not sure why I didn’t keep to it just found myself eating all the time even though I wasn’t hungry.

DianneWhatcock · 01/06/2020 10:34

Well I didn't have the best weekend eating wise although I stuck to the 8 hours, had chinese Friday night, quite a few drinks sat night then a big plate of steak and chips for dinner last night, so my calorie intake has probably been high

However I've neither gained nor lost so that's good

So today I'm gona go back to keeping an eye on calorie intake

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 11:07

Moo678 I wonder if it would be worth weighing more regularly to see if the scales are moving but you’re not seeing it at the end of the week or else so you can tweak what you’re doing.

Might also be worth writing down what you’re eating and we could advise? I know many people choose this method as they don’t want to weigh food or write stuff down but unless you’ve got masses to lose we still need to eat with insulin in mind. So ideally no snacking between meals and the two meals eaten should be good, whole foods with anything sweet at the end.

MillieMoodle · 01/06/2020 18:09

I'm two weeks in today and 5lbs down in total, which I'm happy with (3lbs last week and 2lbs this week). Cutting out the evening snacking is obviously making a difference! If I can lose another 2lbs this week it will take me under 12st for the first time in about 2 years! I think my face looks a bit slimmer and my stomach is less bloated, although I'm not sure that it's noticeable to anyone else yet!

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 18:25

Brilliant Millie well done!!!! 👏👏

SkeletonSkins · 01/06/2020 19:11

Millie that fab!! Well done!

Gallacia · 01/06/2020 21:07

Ahh day 4 and I've caved and I'm starving! Haven't ate much today as recovering from a strange 24 hour bug so it's 21:07 and I'm eating tinned meatballs. Yep.

Start again tomorrow

beachdreaming2020 · 01/06/2020 22:59

Great to hear the good news on weight losses!
The awful painful bloating has largely gone away now thankfully. I am being careful to break my fast with a light “mini breakfast” - like fruit and a dollop of yoghurt - and it’s helping. I’ve also replaced the morning tea + milk with a herbal tea, as I was feeling slightly queasy drinking regular tea. I feel better as a result.
