@recklessgran I tried cauliflower mash today and it was gorgeous! Thought of you as I thought it was probably good on keto and was a lovely alternative to potato.

recklessgran · 17/02/2020 23:02

@cricketmum84 - how did you do that? Do you just boil the cauliflower and mash it with a bit of butter a la normal spuds? I have been roasting it after reading about it on this thread and it's surprisingly lovely so mash would be a great alternative. I think that really would go nicely with sausages so thank you very much for the suggestion. I had ham and egg mayo salad tonight followed by full fat Greek yoghurt and fresh raspberries. Struggled with the water today though.

DandyAF · 17/02/2020 23:37

Checking in today to report I lost 0.1kg in the last week. Slowly does it Grin
I didn’t track my WW pounds at all, not did I make much of a conscious effort.
In total it’s 2lbs this month.
This week is going to be tough, lots of urgent work and the kids off for half-term. I’m not in much of a frame of mind to do WW this week so don’t have huge expectations for weight loss. But j would line to end the month having lost at least 5lns, so I need to step it up.

DownUdderer · 18/02/2020 02:54

I'm sorry if you're a pound up unexpectedly, drink loads of water! Maybe it'll flush it out again?!

I've been looking at how far I normally walk a week and I don't think 70km in a month constitutes a challenge for me, I could cover that distance by just following a normal routine so instead I'm going to aim for 140km in March. I need a challenge and something that will focus my brain.

I have had scrambled eggs for breakfast and crackers and cold meat and cheese for a lazy lunch. I'll have cold chicken and veg for dinner.

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 02:56

@recklessgran yep just cut into small florets, boil and mash. It mashed surprisingly well. I added a teaspoon of vegan butter and a little salt and pepper. I thought I would taste more, well, cauliflowery, but it didn't? I will definitely be doing it again!

@47KedsAndTubeSocks Do you like marinated tofu? Cauldron do it in little pieces you can throw into a salad.

Juliette20 · 18/02/2020 06:00

@recklessgran Will just be SO happy if I can get into the 12's

Me too, aiming for that by some time in March.

Skyejuly · 18/02/2020 07:32

I was doing so well yesterday but then I ate a scone and clotted cream.

Lots of water today. Luckily I'm at work so picking won't be an option.

Tryingtwo · 18/02/2020 10:39

Good morning all, 1lb of yestetday's 1.2 gain has gone.

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 10:51

Morning all.

Up yet another pound. I have no idea what's going wrong here! Think I'm going to cut out the wholemeal roll I've been having for lunches and also any meat substitutes and focus on veggies and whole foods. Also up water intake and see if I can flush it away @DownUdderer! I think I've been having way too much salt too.

Plan for today is:
B - slept too late so have skipped
L - mushroom omelette and a little salad
D - lentil and sweetcorn chilli with salad and guacamole

Snacks - satsuma, small apple

I am kicking this gain and my extremely grumpy mood to the kerb!!

OP posts:
recklessgran · 18/02/2020 11:23

@cricketmum84 how frustrating! I'm sorry you're struggling but agree that cutting out carbs for a couple of days and upping your water might help - not that I'm an expert but I have to say that this Keto diet is proving life changing for me. KOKO.

Egghead68 · 18/02/2020 11:45

How annoying @cricketmum84. I’m still on holiday and probably still gaining (7 course meal last night)!) However my NSV is that I have been going to the hotel gyms as much as possible and skipping meals where I can.

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 11:56

I might have a bit of a google @recklessgran and see how easy/difficult it would be to follow keto as a vegetarian. I just worry as my diet is already quite restrictive do I end up cutting out too much food?

How do you track your carb intake? I suppose I could use one of the apps but then I'm tracking twice as I'm tracking in ww too.

OP posts:
recklessgran · 18/02/2020 12:11

Well @cricketmum84 that's just it. I don't track or log anything at all. I occasionally work out my calories just for the hell of it but you really don't need to. I did spend quite a while researching it before I started as I wanted to make sure I'd be able to do it properly and long term and more importantly actually be successful. Diet doctor gives a good overview of how to do it and the foods to eat. I guess as a vegetarian you would need to eat a lot of eggs and cheese. I don't know anything about the carb content of meat substitutes though. I'm sure you could do it. I feel quite evangelical about it. To be honest I can't quite believe how well I'm doing on it and the best thing of all is that I'm not hungry. At all. So, not reaching for snacks. Sorry, don't want to derail your WW but I'd probably look into it and give it a trial maybe? I'm in awe of your loss so far I have to say so I'm sure you're far more of an expert than me!

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 13:06

Thanks @recklessgran. I'm just on diet doctor now and looking at the vegetarian section. 20g carbs a day seems so low! I've just MH day plan into MFP and it's showing 39g for the day, that'll be the lentils. I didn't realise how carby they are.

Most of my protein sources seem high carb - lentils, chickpeas, beans. I used to love cottage cheese but I feel very conflicted over the dairy industry and have been trying hard to cut out dairy.

I need to look for some meal ideas and recipes!

cricket have you been sleeping enough? It definitely impacts my weight. Also changing my eating window sometimes helps when I stall. Or you may be losing inches instead. You'll definitely crack this!

I'm down 0.2lbs today. I just keep losing and regaining this same 0.2lbs atm. We have friends staying and others coming over tonight for takeaway and probably gin so I'm trying not to eat much today and save all my calories for tonight.

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 13:31

@JessJonesJumps no, sleep is something I really struggle with to be honest. I wake a lot during the night so probably end up with 4-5 hours a night.

I've got a few days off work now so hoping a little less stress may help with that!

I think I need to make a start on the dreaded exercise too. I really don't enjoy it....

cricketmum84 · 18/02/2020 14:32

15g carbs in ONE satsuma?! How is that possible?

speisaalmilk · 18/02/2020 21:26

Can I join? I’ve got a holiday booked in April and in January I decided I wanted to lose about 12 pounds before I go. I’m calorie counting using MFP and my Fitbit Versa and I’ve got a spreadsheet Blush to monitor my deficit. I’m aiming for a 500 calorie a day deficit on average over the week, underestimating my exercise calories where I’m adding them manually (on the whole I’m going off my Fitbit but some forms of exercise I do I can’t wear it).

Pretty pleased with progress so far, I’ve been doing it for just over four weeks and I’ve lost 6 pounds, so 6 more to go. I’ve got 6.5 weeks till my holiday so it should be do-able! I’ve been lurking these really helpful threads but I’d love to join because I think it would help to have some accountability for the next few weeks though so I don’t get complacent with being half way there!

I’m quite good at “proper” exercising but it’s the everyday overall calorie burn that is the issue - the weight I want to lose is what I’ve gained since starting a new job where my commute involves less walking, I have a short lunch break so it’s difficult to get out and walk then, and they provide a free (stodgy, unhealthy) lunch. I’ve started making more effort to get out and about during the day and bringing my own soup for lunch and I think that’s really helped.

Daily goals:

  • 500 cal deficit
  • 5 portions of fruit and veg
  • 2.5 litres water
  • 10,000 steps
  • some kind of exercise session

Sorry, very long essay!

JessJonesJumps · 18/02/2020 23:07

Welcome speisaal . It looks as though you've got it all it all worked out. That will definitely help you to stay on track.

Well, Italian was ordered; chocolates and crisps were eaten; gin was drunk. I'll be interested to see how it impacts the scales.

DownUdderer · 19/02/2020 06:17

I’ve been pretty good today, just one stressed out moment that I tried to squash down with a Tim Tam chocolate biscuit! But I won’t dwell on it. I had scrambled eggs and bacon for lunch and I’m cooking a bolognaise sauce in a minute for dinner, I don’t have mine with pasta. I just add some veg or beans to my portion.

JontyDoggle37 · 19/02/2020 06:24

Morning all. @cricketmum84 I’m starting exercise again today now my asthma has calmed down. We’re also booking a beach holiday now for 4th April which means I now have a massive target to aim at. I can’t go in the state I’m innnow. It gives me 6.5 weeks to lose as much as I can. I’m targeting 12lbs.i WILL feel good in a bikin!!!!!

cricketmum84 · 19/02/2020 06:59

Morning all,

I'm back down a pound after my very low carb day so it looks like this may be the way to go. I think my body just really doesn't like bread, pasta, rice or potatoes even when I stay under ww points :( such a shame my brain loves them so much lol!

I'm taking DD clothes shopping today so should get plenty of steps in following her around primark...

@JontyDoggle37 glad to hear your asthma is finally settling. What exercise have you got planned for today? We are booking a holiday for July and I really want to be 3 stone down by the time we go!

@DownUdderer I like having things like bolognaise, curry and chilli with shredded lettuce. Something about the cold and hot combination? I had my lentil chilli last night on little gem lettuce boats and it was lovely :)

@speisaalmilk welcome ;) you sound very organised!!

Plan for today is:
B - soy yoghurt and a few frozen berries
L - carrot and cucumber and reduced fat hummous
D - mushroom omelette and salad

Another v low carb day so fingers crossed it keeps this downward trend going!

OP posts:
DownUdderer · 19/02/2020 07:18

@cricketmum84 yes! I had mine on a bed of spinach! The cold crunch adds something! I also had avocado.
