Gastric Bypass in 2 months

fontofnoknowledge · 18/04/2018 07:44

I would like to know if anyone on here has had a Gastric Bypass. I have jumped through all the hoops and am now just waiting for surgery date which should be in the next 8 Weeks. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a Bypass or Sleeve . (Not a band it's a very different Operation) .
It appears to be a very taboo subject on MN - (I have even felt the need to name change) and despite there being hundreds of threads on the latest diet, there is surprisingly little about the only scientifically proven longterm sustainable weight loss treatment for those with obesity or morbid obesity.
I am after any advice for the immediate post op period and the process of moving from liquids to solids and any other advice really.

@Darkestnight

Gopd luck for tomorrow. The first few days are hard going. Just take it easy and focus on getting enough fluids in.

I 100% recommend getting a Support belt for your abdomen muscles. I found I couldn't sleep because turning at night would be so painful. But wearing a tight support belt made such a difference to the pain.

AnythingConsidered · 12/08/2018 14:28

How lovely to check into the thread and find lots of new people talking about their experiences and upcoming Ops!

Good luck tomorrow *DarkestNight

@Sofabitch how are you getting on?
I'm down to 4 & a half stone. Need to get on more off and I hit Healthy in the BMI brackets.

Had my first B12 injection couple of weeks ago and it hurt like hell - glad we only have to do them every 3 months!

Food is doing okay. Still can't do bread/toast & can only do 3-4 bits of pasta. Taste buds have definitely changed. I'm now a savoury rather than sweet eater!

Mollie85 · 12/08/2018 16:15

Hello everyone! Good luck for the upcoming surgery, Darkest!!

I fly out two weeks today and I start my LRD tomorrow.

Starting to feel real now!

Mollie85 · 12/08/2018 16:16

@sofabitch can I ask where you got your support belt from pls?

Sofabitch · 12/08/2018 16:27

Hey. I'm at 89kg. Lost 36kgs so far.
Just about scrapping a bmi of 35 now!!

So still a long way to go.

Luckily bread and pasta seem fine for me. Although I'm not opting to eat them very often. I did have a bacon sandwhich the other morning. 1 piece of bread. 2 bacon pieces (just the eye no fat) and bbq sauce. Was totally fine with that. But did feel stuffed for hours.

I just had a blood test and my b12 was fine so I'm avoiding that for now. I must get better at taking my vitamins though. I'm still terrible.

My taste buds have also changed. I'm craving very different foods these days..more flavour less food.

@Mollie85 I just searched surgical support belt on amazon

Oblomov18 · 12/08/2018 17:03

Watching with interest for Dh.

Mollie85 · 12/08/2018 18:06

Thank you. Just had the most hideous moment of self loathing as I picked up a set of scales... at the end of May I was 16stone 4- just weighed in at 17.10 1/4.

Hopefully I can get 10 lbs off in the next two weeks, although period is due week tomorrow Confused

Thanks sofa - placed an order - were you using this from straight after?

Sofabitch · 12/08/2018 19:41

As soon as I got home from hospital. It really helped hold everything in place

lovemenot · 13/08/2018 19:45

So....protein shakes....where to buy, what brand etc?

Also chewable vitamins that are suitable for post bariatric patients.

Surgery on Sept 14th.

Darkest, Hope all went well.

Sofabitch · 13/08/2018 23:08

No protein shakes here. Wasn't advised to have them. Milk, yoghurts, cottage cheese etc. All normal foods.

Was advised 2 of the Centrum chewable tablets were adequate until I could stomach the forceval. I'm 4 months in and still struggle with that.

CrabbityRabbit · 14/08/2018 08:03

I had Barrats chewables now just an A-Z tablet twice a day.

I found carrying a pillow around with me and pressing it to my stomach when gettinf up/sitting down etc helped. Similar to a support belt I guess.

Lost 4lbs this week after only one last week. Haven't pooed since last Wednesday though. Hmm

That takes me to 11st 11lbs and BMI 28.3 which is great. Think this is the lowest I've ever recorded and am now a size 14 which is what I was at 18.

Still aiming for 9 to 9.5 stone which should have me in a size 10 bottom and maybe a 12 top as bra size currently a 34G down from 42G.

CrabbityRabbit · 14/08/2018 08:05

I have Maxinutrition protein milk chocolate flavour which is quite nice. 30g protein a bottle and have one for breakfast a few times a week.

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 14/08/2018 08:36

Only protein shake I could bear is called Arlo which happens to be cheapest. Can only get it in Asda though, which is a long schlep for me. Raspberry one nicer than mango IMO. I tried not to use them because normal milk/yogurt felt healthier, but been advised to keep going with them once a day to try to keep protein up and hopefully trigger more weight loss (have stalled completely after 20kg - half way for me).
Darkest - worst bit is first 24 hours post surgery, hopefully you are coming through the other side. During my immediate recovery, on my first walk-round, I nearly fainted from low bp so they sat me down on a chair in middle of corridor where I promptly had a coughing fit and peed the floor. All with one boob hanging out unnoticed by me. Smile Whatever happens to you, they will have seen it before.

fontofnoknowledge · 15/08/2018 16:19

Got my surgery date !

Can't say I'm not slightly disappointed as it's 8 Dec ! Having been told within 5 months from MDT. However I am nonetheless grateful that the NHS even has a centre of excellence that provides this surgery and having already been in the system 2.5 yrs another 3.5months is not that long in the scheme of things... At least I've jumped through the hoops now and I have a date.

@fontofnoknowledge this is great news....just this by next Christmas you'll be so much healthier. And by next summer the heat so much easier to cope with.

I hope the time passes quickly for you! I'm sure it will be fast

Sofabitch · 15/08/2018 17:10

@CrabbityRabbit..wow that is really good. I can't wait to be no longer obese. A bmi of 28 would be epic to me.

CrabbityRabbit · 15/08/2018 19:15

Think I might have just lost another couple of lbs lol. Epic shit after a week without going. Envy Urgh

Really cba with the gym yesterday. Will go again today.

Am in London unexpectedly Friday night with nowt to do if anyone nearby fancies meeting and chatting about the highs and lows of wls.

Last time I was there I ordered a lovely chicken burger but could only eat two bites or so. Its quite embarressing to explain to the waiter that you didn't hate it and just don't eat much when still looking fairly porky.

Sofabitch · 16/08/2018 13:48

I have just dragged my arse to the gym realising its been 3 days since I last went. I always enjoy it once I'm there but fitting it in can be a struggle. I expect it will get even harder when I go full time in September.

I've just made a Blt wrap for lunch super super yummy. Mini wrap, 2 pieces of bacon light mayo and lettuce and tomato came in under 200 cals! So extra bonus.

I'm going out for dinner with friends tonight. I still find this quite hard as I never know what to order and the not eating/ drinking at the same time is a bit awkard. But I'm going Wagamama has a suitable selection of potential options.

London is a fair way from me unfortunatly. But have a good time.

Mollie85 · 16/08/2018 21:30

Ten days until I fly to Czechia and 12 until my surgery!!!
Liver reduction diet going well, despite the fact I’m going to bed hungry every night. 8 lbs down since Sunday... I know it’s water weight Wink

Anyone have any last minute tips or tricks of what to pack besides the obvious basics? Grin

lovemenot · 16/08/2018 23:51

Mollie.....the one thing that seems to be on everyone’s list in the FB groups is chap stick.

Mollie85 · 17/08/2018 07:18

Yes the coordinator told me that, thanks lovemenot. I never wear anything on my lips so that will be a strange feeling Smile
Actually I imagine the whole thing will be quite strange... Grin

Sofabitch · 21/08/2018 08:26

Had my 4 month check up this week. I'm doing exceptionally well apparently. I've lost 59% of my excess weight at an average of 9kgs a month.

Nothing major to report here. I'm still struggling with taking the forcival but the nurse recommend holland and Barrett ABC complete capsules as an alternative as we only need to take 1 a day of those rather than 2 sanatogen.

Weight loss is still going pretty consistently. I'm in an 18 trousers (super pear shaped) and a 14/16 top....although I am now a measly 36B bra...which made me a little sad...I might need to get a boob job too!!!

I've completely rebought my entire wardrobe. I just couldn't keep wearing too big stuff. Everyone has noticed now. Even my neighbour that I rarely speak to was like wow you've lost weight.

6 stone down. I think I'd like to loose another 3 stone. But I'm feeling pretty good right now.

How have all the recent surgeries gone?

Sofabitch · 21/08/2018 15:48

Just bought a pair of size 16 jeans in the asda sale thinking I'll put them away for Autumn and they might fit.... tried them on to see how far I had to go and they fit!!!! Shock Grin Grin

Ok they are stretchy but I haven't worn a 16 trouser since I was 16!!

fontofnoknowledge · 21/08/2018 18:17

Woo hoo Sofa size 16 !!! Well done you . Xx
